"They didn't know why these things were funny. Sometimes you laugh because you've got no more room for crying. Sometimes you laugh because table manners on a beach are funny. And sometimes you laugh because you're alive, when you really shouldn't be." -Terry Pratchett Was Hercules ever like, "Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus?"
Action: Mya tries to disengage from the battle, presenting herself alone to the Dracovish.
Items: 0/3
That was... strange. Mya watched the thing for a while, flashlight pointed at it up until it roared, charged, and slung Atlas away like a sack of potatoes. The thing's body going through part of the wall. While this was happening, and Atlas being slung away, Mya's brain was working. The little hamster in there running as fast as it could on the wheels of "for the sake of your life PAY ATTENTION FOR ONCE!!" and as the hamster slowed to the stop, the light had come on. Mya turned off her flashlight, earning a worried look from Eon.
The light from Atlas' beginning Flamethrower filled the room and she held up a hand and clenched it into a fist. The Flamethrower was aimed in a different direction, the severely injured Charmeleon looking at her in confusion. He was bloodied from that hit, nothing he couldn't recover from, but he felt the broken ribs.
Mya looked at this roaring monster, eyes fierce with an understanding. She put a hand on her hip and tapped the flashlight to her jaw. "Hm... nah," she said, not looking very worried. This woman survived the streets of Famine since before pokemon were a thing again. She wasn't scared of them, even if they did kill her. It was just the way of the world. She squeezed her eyes shut and then they opened again. "Oh! I know! Muppets! Yeah, you remind me of some muppets. Like on the TV."
Atlas tried to come closer and she raised her hand again, stopping him. Eon also backed up, taking Vulcan with him as the Shelgon moved to be in front of Atlas, using his heavy body as a shield as Eon technically became the active pokemon in Mya's command, but for now there was no order. She stood against this thing alone. Brave or foolish? She would proudly say it was both.
Mya reached into her pocket and took out some beef jerky in a little bag. "Metal isn't good for your stomach, you know," she said as she opened the bag and dumped the entire thing out on the floor. She took several steps back. "Try that on for size, big guy. Maybe then you'll calm down." She also put the flashlight down, never taking her eyes off the thing, but then she stood there, hands out, palms open. No weapons. No pokemon at her side. Just her.
She stayed like that, completely unmoving, never breaking eye contact, as she studied this creature. The sheer violence it had approached them with was unusual to say the least. But she was starting to piece things together. This place... it wasn't a good place. This thing probably didn't eat metal and the tube in the back said everything very clearly. This poor thing didn't like it here. It didn't like her. That part was fine, but it had slung one of her strongest gym pokemon to the side like it was nothing and they were in a lot of danger right now.
Mya did not care what happened to her, as long as her pokemon were safe. And this was giving them a chance to leave. Not that they would, of course. But a chance regardless. While it was killing her they could run.
Eon gave a small grumble of concern, but Mya didn't even look at him, keeping her eyes on this... this thing. Its body wasn't normal. The head so heavy it looked like it was going to stumble over at any second.
"Easy, Eon. Everyone relax," she said. She sighed. They did not relax, but they kept their distance. "Take your time," she said to the big pokemon, slowly sitting down on a piece of rubble. Completely open for attack. It was hard to see in the darkness without her flashlight, but from what she could get from the now dimmer glow of Atlas' tail and the lightning, she was in a lot of danger. "But I ain't going anywhere until you calm down, funky muppet."
Eon watched with a very tense body, wishing his shell would explode right now and he could maul this thing to death for what it had done to Atlas, for being so close to Mya after that attack. But his body wasn't ready yet. It was still incredibly soft under this shell. It had a long way to go... Atlas himself was feeling an itch at his back, wishing he too would evolve right now to set this thing on fire, but that was not possible... and Vulcan was just along for the ride, watching this curiously. He was worried, yes, but he was young. He did not yet understand the gravity of this situation.

The Dracovish snarls, opening its maw as if to attack again. It does snap – into open air, warning as the Flamethrower goes off across the room, drawing the great lumbering beast’s attention. Its eyes dart to Mya for only a moment, and as the Charmeleon starts to move closer, it too takes a step forward with a low growl. But then another Pokemon – the large shelled one, moves in, and Dracovish snarls at him, too. It will not be cornered, nor made to roll over! Not this time, lab coat monsters!
But this human shape has no lab coat. Not a lab coat monster? The other non lab coat human shape had broken the capsule it was imprisoned in. Did that mean not-scientist was good? Bad? Good? BAH - what did it matter, a HUMAN SHAPE was a HUMAN SHAPE. “Vvvviiiiissssssssssss….” It hisses, clicking its jaw and swinging its head on its pendulum neck, back and forth as it wrestles with itself, confused. Attack? Not attack? Lab coat? No lab coat?
It was all terribly confusing for a beast whose very existence was the epitome of confusion to begin with.
The smell of food hits the Dracovish’s nose. Immediately, the living fossil stills, eyes trained on Mya. The light wasn’t blinding it now. It growls at the sound of the jerky hitting the floor, shifting its claws aggressively, crouching. It sniffs, shuffles a step forward, fins flittering in an attempt to keep balance in such a creature that wasn’t meant to stand this way.
Sniff. Sniff. …Smells like food. Looks like food.
Dracovish watches Mya with suspicion as she moves, and then slowly sits. For a long moment it doesn’t do anything at all but shift foot to foot with narrowly squinted eyes. And then just as suddenly as before, it lunges, bonelike jaw snapping with crushing strength!
The jerky – and a chunk of the floor beneath it – doesn’t stand a chance. The Dracovish attacks it as viciously as it did the machinery it was once tortured by, snapping it up by the mouthful, losing all interest in both human and Pokemon over the chance at an actual meal. It is so hungry. The Dracovish is a terribly powerful Pokemon. But it is also not a natural one; not built properly, not meant to exist in nature. Broken. A human’s petty plaything, put together not because it should, but because they could. It was built to be an apex predator… but on an island full of other experiments, massive terrible monsters, artificial beasts, and Pokemon that were whole, and correct, and proper… it quickly found itself with a lack of food on the bottom of the chain.
Devouring as if this is its last meal, the jerky is gone into Dracovish’s gullet within moments. Its jaw snaps at the air as it wavers, tilting its head back for the food to slide down, and then looks at Mya, growling again. Human Shape had the food. More!? With single-minded focus, the Dracovish advances on the human, maw open wide, and rams its head into her torso. But it does not bite down. Whining, the Dracovish shoves Mya with its head, sniffing desperately. It doesn’t seem particularly cognizant of its own strength – or its own weight. All it knows is that it is starving, and that this human shape has food, and hopefully more of it.
OOC:
The battle is... stopped! DRACOVISH is sniffing for more food!

Action: Mya attempts a capture!
Items: 0/3
The sudden force knocked the breath out of her as she felt one of her ribs go. Not the first time. As this massive head was on her, she took several large breaths. Testing. Feeling. No, it didn't pierce anything. Good. She tried to keep herself upright and gently grabbed the back of this massive thing's head to do it as she pulled herself up a bit so its yawning maw was at her stomach. An easy place to bite, but Mya wasn't too worried, though she should have been.
"Okay, okay, easy big guy..." she grumbled as she fumbled for her bag. She whispered soothing words to this pokemon under her breath, giving gentle scritches at the top of its head and jaw. "I have... some food right here, okay?" She managed to get out a can of beans and held it over the beast's head as she cracked open the tab, tore off the lid, and emptied it to the ground. "There! Beans. They're good for your heart and guts and stuff."
If the beast let off of her to tackle the beans, Mya would continue to root around her bag. She had... oh! That's right. Eon had fussed at her for hours until she was prepared to come here. Maybe this was why. The Shelgon wouldn't let her leave until she was fully packed.
"I got... more beans. Like three cans--Eon! Why did I need so many cans?" She asked as she cracked them open and also dumped them out on the floor. "And- stop! Eating! The! Ground! You're going to make yourself sick. Sweet Arceus." Eon, however, gave a grumble. Because they were coming to a strange island and he didn't want her to go hungry, maybe? The Shelgon did not move, however, ensuring to keep an eye on this thing. Atlas, however, was not as relaxed. He was an inch away from doing another Flamethrower at this thing but he was stuck between doing what he thought was right and what Mya thought was right.
Mya kept rummaging around. "I have... oh!" She took a wrapped sandwich out of her bag. "You'll like this!" She unwrapped it and put it on the ground as well, moving her hand away quickly in case this thing snapped. "It's beef slices with tomato and lettuce!"
As she continued to search, she came across a luxury ball and paused. She looked back up at this place. "I'm guessing this place sucks, huh? Not a lot of food? Ya know--I'm a pretty good cook! I make meals for all my pokemon. Isn't that right, boys?" She called.
Eon grumbled an agreement. He was hoping to get some steak tonight once they got home. Atlas said nothing, glaring at this thing. Vulcan looked too afraid to speak. Mya gave them a look of 'can't help a little more, huh? Only Eon? Okay.' before she took out the luxury ball and put it on the ground, rolling it away a bit.
"You're choice. If you come with me, I'll feed you till you physically can't eat anymore. Just go touch that ball. If not, we will leave you be. I can tell you don't like people, and I understand. People can be awful. Your choice, Muppet." She opened her bag to reveal a few granola bars, another sandwich. Mya put it all next to her on the rock, slung her bag back on, stood up, and stepped away towards her team, leaving the food behind. She did turn her back and walk past the thing, but knowing Eon and Atlas' eyes were trained carefully on her. She knelt down to her team and took Vulcan into his arms when he reached for her.
The baby dragon gave a small cry. "It's okay," Mya mumbled softly, petting his head before putting him back on Eon's shell, the larger pokemon not taking his eyes off of that pokemon.. "It's okay! We're all going to be okay... yeah?" She began to search around her bag, getting some of the medicine she brought ready. "Come here, Atlas," she muttered. Looking him over. "Sorry, bud, I gave all my potions to that crying gym challenger so we're doing this the old fashioned way. Rubbing alcohol and bandages okay?"
He looked back at that... monster, then back at Mya. She smiled and said very softly, "We can't be angry at anyone whose hurting, Atlas Arris. He's starving. Wouldn't you be a bit trigger happy if your belly wasn't full?" She gently started to dab his wounds. She was right, but... he was still going to be angry.

Dracovish’s intense snuffling at Mya seems to… change, slightly, as she scritches at it. The low growl sounds… pleased, almost. The attention feels nice. It isn’t cattle prods and whip lashes and – ooh. Ooohhh. Right there. Yeah. That was a real good itch, it was. It’s more than enough to distract it from what Mya is doing until the splatter of beans hit the ground. Then it starts and backs up with a little growl, head whipping around and… oh. Food.
FOOD!
The aggression appears to be lost in favor of hunger, and Dracovish attacks the beans, inhaling them with the same fervor as the jerky. Everything that Mya sets down, the beast inhales like a dog offered a piece of cheese. It doesn’t even stop to breathe, just taking a little step forward with each new offering. It wonders briefly when the last time it was able to eat to fullness like this was. It wonders if… truly if ever it has eaten to fullness. All it knows – remembers – is the lab. There are brief… muddled bits. Memories of roaring ocean tides. Dense jungles… but no. More than that are the memories of experimentations, whiplashes, and drowning in the cerebral fluid of its genetic tankard.
Dracovish looks up and hisses as Mya admonishes them for eating the floor – with bits of floor in its mouth along with the sandwich. It’s flavoring! And besides – bits of concrete and dust are infinitely better than mystery laboratory goop. Dracovish isn’t picky – anything put on the floor is food right now, and this human shape is feeding it, so there’s no complaints.
And that orb, that spherical thing. That’s food too. It’s on the floor, isn’t it?
Muppet – better than Experiment GZ-002F – licks their chops. And then takes a step forward. And then devours the Luxury Ball whole. There is a long moment where it seems to consider this thing that distinctly did not taste like food, and then there is a flash of light as the Luxury Ball activates and encapsulates the massive fossil Pokemon.
The ball rocks a little bit from side to side as if confused. And then a little more violently, the white light on the ball flashing. Then… [*Click!*] – the light flashes green with the mechanism of a successful capture. Muppet doesn’t really know what just happened – but it isn’t the tube, and the human shape has fed them, and there’s finally enough food in the belly to perhaps… maybe… warrant a nap.
There’s silence once more in the destroyed facility other than the horrid sounds of the storm, and the far distant screech of some kind of beast. The thunder seems to reply, lighting up the sky once more… and almost drowned out, but still audible, is the loud horn of a ship. It’s time.
OOC: Attempt to capture! Roll... successful!
CONGRATULATIONS! You have captured a DRACOVISH! Please add the statblock below as a new post to your tracker for your new Pokemon!
This was the final encounter of the thread. Feel free to wrap up however you like, and have your character make their way back towards the dock... lest they be collected forcefully.
Congratulations!

The pokemon was caught, the nightmare over. Mya stood up and grabbed the luxury ball, putting it in her bag before heading back to her team. She looked at Atlas, seeing how worried he looked. She petted his head and returned him to his pokeball to rest. She did the same with Vulcan who was sniffling. The little dragon was very young but... Mya patted Eon's shell and they started to walk back. She sent a quick text to the League group chat. Salve Island is a fucked up place. A pokemon nearly killed Atlas in one hit. If you come here, be careful. It scheduled to send once she got service back and she tucked her phone away and kept walking on, giving the gashes in the trees they had passed earlier a glance. Whatever that pokemon she caught here was... it didn't do those. Something felt just off. Eon grumbled as they walked, feeling an itch somewhere along his spine. His body slowly forming more and more pieces that were getting ready to burst out. He wished it would happen already. If it did then maybe he would have been able to protect his family. "Don't blame yourself, bud," Mya said, as if sensing his distress. "When we get back, we'll make sure Atlas is taken to the Pokemon Center and I'll run Muppet here through some behavior drills with you and Wormy's help. Then we gotta get that weirdo to the lab or something so they can take a look at him... He's... wrong."Eon grumbled in agreement. They soon arrived on the beach, the fun game they had played with Dreepy long since forgotten. They got back to the dock and Mya got in, giving a nod to the captain. "I have a severely injured pokemon--he's in his pokeball, but if you can take us over to one of the port cities so I can get him to a Pokemon Center I'd be very appreciative," she said, moving to where she could sit with a wince. "You okay?" the captain asked. Mya sniffed and shrugged. "Broken rib. Nothing to be worried about. Let's go, boatman."||FINISHED|| I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service
