A Wild Pokemon Appeared!
Hello, Professor Yew, and welcome to the Exegg Islands!
Yew arrived during the day, taking advantage of the warm sunlight and the beautiful beaches. The trip to get here was slightly out of the way, especially since there are only three main ways to reach these islands. Yet here Yew was! Standing on what was once considered a tourist hot-spot. Although mostly abandoned now, there is no reason to not take in the wonderful view!
The sound of wild Pokemon fills every bit of natural silence. The splashing and calls of various Pokemon types show that these islands are brimming with life!

Professor Yew Professor Yew stepped off the boat she'd hired to bring her to the islands onto a crumbling, salt-stained dock still left over from back when people actually came here. The boat captain had said this seemed like the best place to drop her off, but she moved quickly off the dock onto the beach: it didn't look quite stable. All right. Here she was, exploring Deprin properly for the first time, doing some real field research instead of grubbing around with mushrooms. Not that she had anything against mushrooms, of course, but she'd had quite enough of them in grad school. No, she wanted to be out there working with Pokemon. Speaking of which ... She lifted the Pokeball from her belt and pressed the button. "Come on out, Absol."Absol appeared and looked around, seeming a little out of place in the sunny, cheerful islands. She turned to her trainer. "Sol?""We're going to try to meet some wild Pokemon," the professor told her Absol, trying to hide her excitement, though it also struck her as ridiculous that she was trying to act less excited in front of her own Pokemon. If she couldn't share her feeling with Absol, who could she trust? "Let's get to exploring!"She walked up the beach, inland, looking around carefully for any signs of life.

Weather: Clear || Time: Day || Rolled Battles
Drowzee's speed is lower than Absol's! Absol may attack first or Yew can attempt a non-battle capture! From the cover of the trees, there was a sign of life. The rustling of leaves became louder until a pokemon stepped out from their hiding place onto the sandy shore of the beach, seeming to not notice Professor Yew or her pokemon at first glance.
The Drowzee yawns before finally looking around, spotting the human and the absol. He freezes for a moment, carefully studying them... Humans didn't often frequent this area anyway, it was rare for a pokemon to even lay eyes on one... much less a human with a pokemon companion.
"Drow.... zee?" He questioned, his gaze transfixed.

Professor Yew The professor froze with a gasp. She'd never seen a wild Pokemon before, and it was even better than she'd imagined. "It's a Drowzee," she whispered to Absol. "A Psychic-type Pokemon, so normally you'd have an advantage over it in battle, as a Dark-type. But at such low levels, type advantages don't always come into play -- you don't have any Dark type moves, and it may not have any Psychic type moves, either."
The Drowzee seemed curious, not aggressive, and the professor didn't want to repay that curiosity by attacking it. Instead, she bent down and reached a hand out to the Drowzee. "Hello, Drowzee! You eat dreams, don't you? If you like, I can take you somewhere where there are many more human dreams to eat than here -- more interesting and varied fare, I'm sure."
Carefully, without making any sudden movements, she rolled a Pokeball towards the Drowzee.

The capture failed! The drowzee listened to this human babble before she rolled something towards him. Curiously, the drowzee approached the strange object and looked at it for a few long moments. Then he looked back towards the human and her pokemon... he didn't understand humans or why some pokemon wandered with them, but there must be some reason. Either way, that reason was not for this drowzee. With a small cry, he wandered back into the foliage of the island, leaving the two along. He could find a better place to nap.

Professor Yew "Ah ..." the professor said, as the Drowzee turned tail and left. She looked at Absol. Absol looked at her. "Well, that didn't work. We'll battle the next one, all right? I didn't want to take the risk of it hypnotizing you."
Absol nodded solemnly, then turned her attention back to the jungle in front of them, her eyes piercing, as usual. The professor took a deep breath. She wasn't too badly disappointed by the Drowzee's departure -- she'd known the chances of it actually choosing to come with her were low. She'd have other chances. "All right, let's go."
She started forward, but Absol moved faster, trotting into the jungle a few feet ahead of her trainer. Professor Yew chuckled. "OK, lead the way, then."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Absol is faster than Oddish (even with Oddish's ability activated)! Professor Yew may attempt an out-of-battle capture or attack first! The sunlight was beautiful and warm! The waves crashed gently against the shore and this plant was loving it! Or, no, not a plant--a pokemon!
Oddish squirmed her way out of the warm sand and took in another breath of that delicious carbon dioxide. She had squirmed her way into the warm sand to enjoy the wonderful sunlight. Now, she sat there, pushing her feet through the sand while singing a little song to herself. She only stopped when she saw a human an an absol approach! Oh no! She stood up and watched them, growing more anxious by the minute.
Oh no oh no oh no!!

Professor Yew Absol growled at the Oddish, but the professor hesitated. Tilting her head, Absol looked up at her trainer. "Well, I did say we'd battle the next one, but ... look at it. It's so small, and it already seems scared. I don't really want to attack it ..." Also, the Oddish seemed pretty weak. The professor had a bad feeling that her Absol, with her high attack, might knock it out or drive it off in one hit. "Just a second," the professor said, pulling out her phone. "Hmm, records show Oddish is fairly easy to capture ... But they don't exactly have a lot of stamina, and you hit pretty hard."The Absol nodded, seeming the slightest bit flattered by this acknowledgment of her capabilities. "We'll hit it once," the professor decided. "Absol, use Scratch -- but please do not get a critical hit."Cupping her hands around her mouth, the professor called to the Oddish, "I'm sorry about this! I'll make it better, I promise!"

Absol used Scratch! It hits and does 4 damage! Oddish's HP is now 5! Oddish uses Absorb! It hits and does 2 damage! Absol's HP is now 12! Oddish recovers 1 HP! Oddish's HP is now 6! The attack came suddenly, striking the oddish square in the chest. The pokemon gave a startled cry as if she had just been murdered, falling back onto the sand before struggling to stand up. She was alive! Incredible!
She planted her feet and puffed out her cheeks, focusing before she charged at the absol and smacked her with the bright green leaves. Doing so withdrew some of absol's health into oddish. It was hardly anything, but it was something!
The oddish stood ready, not knowing if she could out run such a fast opponent!

Professor Yew The professor actually winced as Absol hit the Oddish. Poor thing. Then she hesitated: the Oddish could take another hit, she thought, but every hit was a chance for Absol to crit, and she didn't think the Oddish could take a crit. But she didn't want to waste another Pokeball ... Well, she had said she would only hit it once. She pulled out a Pokeball and threw it at Oddish. "It's all right, Oddish," she called. "We just need to capture you and then we'll take good care of you!"
Yeah, she felt pretty bad about attacking this poor Oddish when it was just sunning itself. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Professor Yew threw a pokeball! Capture success! The pokeball flew threw the air and smacked the oddish right in the forehead! The pokemon teetered back a moment before vanishing into the device in a red light.
One....

Three...
Click! The oddish was caught! The pokeball sat there in the sand, unmoving now, as the oddish rested inside.

Professor Yew "Yes!" The professor actually jumped for joy -- a little -- when the Pokeball went still. "We did it! We caught an Oddish!"
She looked at Absol. Absol looked back with her usual solemn expression. Rather than letting that put a damper on her delight, Professor Yew just laughed. Then she walked over and picked up the Pokeball. "We have a new friend now," she told Absol. To the Pokeball she added, "As soon as we get back to civilization, we'll get you healed up, and then you can come out and meet us properly. I'm afraid we didn't make the best first impression ..."
Ah well. Nothing she could do about that now. She put the Pokeball in her bag; in the future, it'd go into one of the three slots in her belt. Then she and Absol continued along the treeline. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

A Wild Pokemon Appeared!
Weather: Clear || Time: Day || Rolled Battles
A Wild Drifloon Appears! Absol's Speed is higher! You may attack first or attempt an out-of-battle capture! During the clear day, it would be easy to see bird pokemon flying high in the sky. In this case, shortly after Professor yew picked up that pokeball, it was clear to see a balloon drifting in the breeze, coming slowly closer to them. As they walked, the balloon came closer and closer, until a gentle breeze finally turned it around.
The drifloon watched them as he halted himself from mindlessly floating around, dangling his long arms towards the sand. His eyes watched them ever patiently, before looking at the absol. Hmm... well, this was new. A pokemon and a human, walking side by side. Curious.

Professor Yew "A Drifloon!" the professor said, delighted. Ghost Pokemon were so interesting, and Drifloom always seemed like one of the less sinister -- and cuter -- of them. What a great Pokemon to encounter! Now, they'd probably have to weaken it ... Just as the professor was about to tell Absol to jump up and Scratch the Drifloon, she remembered something. Oh. Oh no. Normal-type moves -- like Scratch -- had no effect on Ghost-type Pokemon. And while Absol's type, Dark, was super effective against Ghosts ... Absol didn't actually have any Dark-type moves. Except Feint, but that move only worked against Pokemon that were shielding themselves from damage, and the professor doubted the Drifloon was even capable of that. So they had Scratch and Quick Attack, and neither of them could actually do any damage to the Drifloon. In that case, there was no point in trying to battle it. The professor could only hope that the Drifloon actually chose to enter her Pokeball -- and she rather doubted that would happen. But she had no choice. She stepped forward. "Hello, Drifloon! Would you like to come with us? We can show you lots of interesting things out in the world."Trying to remember more information about Drifloon and what it might find appealing, she added, "You like children, don't you? You aren't going to find any out here, but I can take you where there are lots of children."She gently threw a Pokeball at the Drifloon. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Professor Yew throws a pokeball!
The capture fails! The drifloon was slightly confused. What a strange--but interesting--offer! He did seem rather curious, but as the ball arched through the air and hit him, causing him to vanish in a red light, there were a few things going through the pokemon's head. One was, 'what the hell? I don't vibe with this'.
The drifloon freed himself from the pokeball, surprised to be back in the living world. He looked around, slightly confused about what happened. Stunned from suddenly vanishing and then coming back, the drifloon floats higher into the sky, leaving that strange situation behind him.
