It was obscenely hot, today. Arris wouldn't complain outwardly, but he sure wasn't a fan of it. Was it because of the location? Maybe. Maybe it was just because he was so used to the much cooler temperatures of the coast, and this was the furthest north he'd ever traveled... but either way, he was here now, in the hot weather without a cloud in sight! And where was here?
Here... was Famine! The tiny town of troubles; crossroad to much of Deprin. Arris had come up through the Southwest, where he'd trekked through Broadmarsh, teaching Belle some new tricks, as well as just bonding with her as they traveled. Currently, his pokemon partner was a melted puddle atop his head, sprawled out and soaking up the rays happily. Her trainer was just happy he could use her leaves as a sunhat.
They hadn't been in town long... enough to lollygag around the road to Drackinhelm, wondering if braving the heat and danger was worth a trek. He'd lost track of time - enough that he was starting to get a mild sunburn on his dusky skin. Maybe it was a good time to head to find somewhere in the shade to rest a while....

Sebastian... really didn't like the heat very much either. But Everest liked it even less. She was melted in Seb's arms, eyes closed and seeming to be asleep. But in reality she was just grumping. "I know girl... I know you don't like the heat. Maybe we'll go visit Mt.Veerie next so you can be more at home." He mumbled to his pokemon, petting her soothingly. She shifted to curl closer to him. He sighed, and glanced to Mya with a small smile.
"I'm glad we're out of the caves at least. It's not that I... mind them... but I do kinda... prefer the sun..." He mumbled, sidling closer to her. However, he didn't prefer Famine. Famine scared him. Too many people, and too many people who were desperate. He couldn't blame them, but he would much rather be... home. In Toploss.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me She had... some mixed feelings. Mya had grown up in Famine so she was used to the heat and used to the surrounding area. She knew her way around the city like the back of her hand, and she knew all the best and the worst places to go. Taking a quick glance at her companions... yeah, they were easy targets. They didn't walk right. It wasn't that she was embarrassed about where she was from. It was just that... when some people learned that you came from Famine they started to treat you differently. Either they tried to give you hand outs or they treated you like a thief. That's probably the reason Mya never flat out stated she was a Famine local. Saying such came with conditions. If people figured it out on their own, then fine... but she wasn't about to volunteer the information.
As she saw the city come closer into view, she sighed. "I know a good place we can rest in the city. Nice little place, out of the sun. Just keep close to me and ya'll should be fine." Nice had a different meaning in Famine. Nice meant it had places to sit and the food and drink wasn't horrible. There was one specific cafe she had in mind. They served some good stuff, for Famine standards. There were no berries or berry flavorings here. Just the cheapest algae and mushrooms money could buy. And water. She would like to say the cafe was in the nice part of town, but there was no nice part of town. Mya glanced down to Eon. He nodded at her. He remembered what she had told him about this place and about the person that could have... killed him? Caused him to vanish? Whichever one it was. "Keep your pokemon and your pokeballs close," she said. "I don't feel like chasing anyone down today."
She did perk up. "HEY, ARRIS!" she shouted, waving. She knew that guy!

The tall boy had just started walking again when he heard his name being shouted. His head whipped around, looking for whoever it was, and - oh! It was Mya! "HEY!" he shouted back, also waving. Belle on top of his head was awoken by the commotion, and she peeped as she looked up blearily. All sleepiness was gone the moment she saw Mya and Eon, though - she took off from Arris' head, leaving the trainer to stumble forward off balance as she bounced her way over to the duo she knew. "Sweee!!" She paused for a moment at the other trainer's feet as well, her mouth in a little 'o', before simply smiling and bouncing around him, too.
It took Arris a moment to regain himself, but he quickly jogged over to catch up with and walk with the other two trainers. He grinned brightly in greeting to Mya. "Fancy meeting you all out here! What a nice surprise. Hey Eon! Good to see ya again, bud - and ah!" He waved cheerily to the trainer he did not in fact, know. "I don't think we've met, but it's a nice surprise to see you and your very pretty Pokemon partner all the same." He quirked his fingers in a mini wave to the semi-melted Sneasel in the boy's arms. "I'm Arris, and this bouncy berry is Belle!"
"Boun boun!" Belle called in greeting.
He took up walking alongside Sebastian, leaving the younger man in-between himself and Mya. It was sure nice to see a friend out in the world, especially after traveling on his own for a good while... and especially with a constant concern over Belle's health. And a friend of Mya's was a friend of his! "It's been a while. What brings you all out here?"

"I'd like to see someone try anything with Everest. She'd probably try and claw their face off." Seb noted as he pet the melted cat before he fell quiet to watch the new guy come up. A friend of Mya's. He was about to fall quiet and shrink into himself to listen to them chatter.
Until he saw Belle.
His entire face lit up. "Oh my Arceus you are adorable. Bounsweet, the Fruit pokemon. She is so precious" He knelt for a second to give her a gentle pat of greeting. Everest lifted her head, sniffed at the new pokemon, then settled down. Seb almost went on a sure to be adorable ramble before he remembered that Belle's trainer was also there.
"T-Thank you... I'm uh... I'm Sebastian.... This is Everest, she's a Sneasel, the sharp claw pokemon." He looked to Mya to make sure this guy was safe, and good to be around. But she already seemed at ease, had called the man over. So it would be safe. Probably. And it was somewhat reassuring to be safely in the middle of the pair while they walked through the sketchy town. "We just came from the Dragon's Maw on a small... adventure?" Looked to Mya again for confirmation.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Mya smiled at the cheery bounsweet as she bounced over and around them. "It's good to see you, too, Belle." She never thought she'd miss the cheery nature of Arris' partner pokemon but hey, the little bouncing fruit was adorable. Mya's eyes went back up to Arris though as she approach. She gave a short nod in hello towards him and lightly punched him in the arm before they fell into their new walking order.Eon seemed overjoyed. He let out a happy cheer and ran with Belle as she jumped, until he finally got a little ahead of the ground and charged at Arris' shins. Eon slowed down just enough to give Arris a light, playful tap of hello with his head.
"Yeah, a sort of adventure," Mya said, nodding in confirmation to Sebastian. "I'm trying out fishing. I was actually just telling Sebby about a little cafe I know of in Famine, if you want to join us. Anyway... what have you been up to, Arris?" It was... strange. Mya wouldn't consider herself as someone with friends but... here she was. It was nice to be near people she actually enjoyed talking to. She just hoped Arris and Sebastian would get along fine.

Arris grinned at the punch to the shoulder and paused as Eon ran at him, eyes widening slightly. Oh no, was this going to hurt-- oh! He burst into a bubble of restrained giggling as he bent down to pat Eon on the head gently. It was sure nice to see the Bagon - and Belle sure seemed happy for it too! He craned his head up to Sebastian before he straightened up to keep walking. "Belle is absolutely precious, I agree - thank you! I promise she won't let the praise go to her head. And it's good to meet the two of you." Sebastian and Everest. He'd remember that.
His gaze moved back up to Mya as she explained what the other two trainers had been up to, nodding in rapt attention. Fishing! With Pokemon back, he'd forgotten entirely that it was a possible pass-time now. "That sounds like it was a lot of fun for the two of you. And it is a perfect time for lunch - I'd love to join you all."
What had Arris been up to? Oh, boy. His gaze shifted over to where Belle was torn between bounding around Eon in unrestrained happiness and trying to bounce high enough to see Everest at the same time. But specifically, his gaze was pulled to the little notch in the leaf that hung over her eyes. One of the pecks of Rebecca's Torchic had poked a hole that hadn't quite healed - and while it didn't hurt Belle at all, it was a reminder of his negligence and need to do better. He startled when he realized he hadn't quite answered. "Ah! Sorry. Mostly a lot of walking and camping! Belle and I've been training a lot after an... incident, a little while back, so we've been spending a lot of time in the wilderness out of town. We were actually on our way up towards Gladegloom and came through Famine - seeing you all is quite the bright surprise!"
It was nice, having actual real friends to catch up with. Surprising, almost, actually - Arris had always been a co-workers and acquaintances kind of guy, but having people to actually shoot the breeze with? It was fantastic, actually. "How about the two of you, outside of the Maw, as it were? Eon looks like he's growing quite tough - and Everest here," he chuckled good-naturedly, "Sure seems like she's had an adventure indeed."
