While the weather on the waters and over the elusive Salve Island is blessedly clear, the sea itself is most certainly not. Rough waves tossed the ship bearing Cabrian up to the docks, nearly all the way until a rope was thrown over the rotting wood that barely classified as a landing point, where the seafaring vessel still rocked tumultuously in the water. It had been a bit of a rough ride over; the kind of ride that would give a normal civilian who'd never been on a boat before seasickness.
"Three hours," the ship captain reiterated. "You've three hours to wander and capture. Watch your step." The night is dark. While the moon shines as a pale crescent in a cloudy sky, it is barely enough to light the black sand beaches - and certainly not enough to light the dark woods beyond.
Three hours on the supposedly abandoned island that's hit big-time on the news after a mysterious massive explosion, with the offer to catch whatever Pokemon one might, with a handful of Salve Co. issued and clearly expensive Luxury Balls. No questions asked, and no answers given. Why was it opened? Why are trainers allowed here now, after all of the recent events? Suspicious indeed... but, regardless:
The evening adventure begins! What will you do?

The skies were blessedly clear on the crossing, but the waters were not. Cabrian, though, was an ocean shore boy, raised by and on the water. He was utterly unbothered by the rocking of the ship, his attention focused instead on the water itself. And the wailmer that leapt and dove through it happily. "Admiral, be mindful of the currents, alright? We're nearly there."
It was a rare thing, an offer to search for pokemon on this island. It was a curious thing, for such an offer to come at such a time, however. The region rocked by terrorism and murder, mourning one of its most brilliant minds. And yet, here at this time, Salve Co. extended such invitations. It was only the rare nature of the offer that lets Cabrian take it, something feeling decidedly off. He hoped he was wrong. Seeing the shoreline at last, Cabrian retrieved Admiral's pokeball, calling him back with a gentle "Return, my friend." It was a simple thing to nimbly hop off the boat and onto the dark sand, calling back a farewell. "Be safe in the waves." Now he was well and truly alone, left to fend for himself in amongst the unknown pokemon of the island. Wonderful! "Admiral, let's find some new friends."

Perhaps being completely alone and unprotected was not the smartest choice.
The black sand scuffs gently under Cabrian's light feet. It seems to stretch on forever - an obsidian road into an eternal void. In the night's darkness, the beach almost doesn't look real. Instead of walking on a solid surface, it almost looks like Cabrian is taking a stroll across the night sky.
The woods themselves beyond look like twisted gnarled statues, looming, threatening. Oh, the things that could lurk in those woods, in that dark, in that night...
Like a set of footsteps, dragging across grass and into sand. There is a set like a beast's paws, padding gentle and quiet - and a pair of talons, dragging over twigs, snapping branches, leaving grooves in the earth. There is a heavy breathing - it sounds... ominous. Unreal. Synthetic. Like someone significantly out of shape wearing a welder's cap, or a diving helmet.
A crack sounds from the edge of the woods to Cabrian's left. It is immediately followed by the sound of mismatched feet stumbling onto the beach. Slinking. ...Limping?
When the light of Cabrian's flashlight hits the creature, revealing its presence, it lets out a sound like a warped whimper, skidding to a stop. The beast is unlike almost any Pokemon in recent history - or even most Pokedex or public records. It's front feet are wicked claws like a bird of prey - but the hind are like that of a lion. A finned tail thrashes side to side, as if unsure, debating action - but the head...
The chimera-like beast appears to be wearing a massive, brassy, dark helmet. It's eyes beneath the visor reflect the light of the flashlight like a cat's, a mane of shaggy grey ... fur? Feathers? Sticking out haphazardly and unkempt underneath. It is favoring a leg - it's difficult to tell, but the massive, massive beast... appears to be maybe injured? Terrified, certainly. It stares at Cabrian, frozen as if unable to move. The only tell-tale warning signs of any impending danger are a low shaky warble it emits from somewhere in the helm: muffled, tinny, and afraid, an animal cornered and unsure of it's next move.

The darkness, the unknown is not frightening to a man long taught to approach everything with calm reason. He takes note of the sound of the black sand under his feet, the shapes and forms made shadow by his flashlight, the increasingly quiet sounds of the sea behind him. The situation in the region surrounding this experience is dire. But this is an experience and Cabrian is not keen to miss it. He listens, watches, waits as he steadily makes his way forward. And then, it happens. He stops short at the noise of a creature in the dark, trying to orient himself and find it in the void. When his flashlight glints on its head - helmet? head? - Cabrian relaxes his expression, then smiles gently. This poor, poor creature. It's clearly hurt, in pain, and...he can't quite put words to it but Cabrian is certain this pokemon - is it a pokemon? - is not what it should be. Right now, it is simply a scared and injured creature. He thinks. "Hello there. Please don't be afraid, I do not want to hurt you. You are injured, and I think I can help, if you'll let me. I...I do not think you are inclined to move right now, and I understand." Yet he has to do something. The thought is initially dismissed. Would it not fight a pokeball in its state? What if it isn't even a pokemon? All he is sure of is that he wants to help. He has to. What happens if this poor thing is left alone like this? He can't let that happen. The creature seems so unlikely to move for fear or pain or both. "Please don't be afraid. I'm going to roll this pokeball to you, okay? If you're willing to come with me, you can get in. I'd really like to help you, if you'll let me. I'd like to meet you. I hope maybe you'll take a chance on me."It's a wildly long shot and he knows it, but Cabrian can't bring himself to just bop this poor thing over the head with a pokeball. Instead, he pulls a luxury ball from his sleeve and does exactly what he promised - rolls it across the ground with just enough force to settle in front of the unknown creature. He can only pray it works. OOC: Cabrian tries to catch Type:Null!Status: No changes! Admiral's StatblockWailmer // Level 5 // Male Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | 30

The chimera beast makes a weird noise that sounds a bit like a hiss... or something - it's hard to tell beneath the mask. But it doesn't sound pleased at the voice of a human, its entire body tensing, the poor thing visibly shaking. This Pokemon has had a hard time of things. That much, at least, is certain. It takes half a step back, at Cabrian moving, and the glowing eyes beneath the helmet's visor narrow suspiciously. It seems either poised to flee, or to lash out, body too entirely still to be able to tell one way or the other.
That being said, when Cabrian rolls the Luxury Ball over to it, the answer becomes clear. The response is to fight. But not the human - this spherical thing. It's seen them, on the belts of the other humans. On shelves. When they would... no, no. Please, no more hurt, no more pain! No enemies within this devil ball! The beast lashes out at the Luxury Ball with a pained screech, using its injured paw. The intent is to slap it away, or crush it, maim it before whatever is inside can hurt it or corner it or tie it down -- what happens... is that the flat of its claw happens to hit the capture mechanism dead on, instead.
With a golden flash, the unknown Pokemon is sucked inside the Luxury Ball. The capture sphere rocks wildly, shaking and fighting on the ground as if there is a war going on within. But... oh. Oh. There is no enemy here. In fact... whatever this is, it's... quite nice. It's quiet. Comfortable. Pains are soothed and feel almost suspended - and oh, Type:Null is so weak... it could fight, if it had to. Or flee. But this... it has never known this kindness. It is safe here, it feels. It does not know how it knows this, or why it should even trust this feeling. Maybe it will fight again, when it has the strength...
The Luxury ball slowly ceases its struggle, the Pokemon within giving up the fight. The violent rocks begin to subside, slowly, slowly... until it is sitting motionless in the sand in front of Cabrian. The light gives one final flash.
*Ding!*
And just like that... the mysterious beast has been captured.

Cabrian holds his breath as the pokeball rocks back and forth, completely unsure. It's clear that the pokemon - which it must be for it to get in the ball, right? - did not go in gladly. Hissing, striking at it...it most certainly was not trying to be caught. That much he is sure of. As the ball settles, however, Cabrian is left standing in the dark and wondering if this pokemon ran out of fight or willingly let go. Either way, it is safe in the ball now, and should be stable for some time. He wants to explore more, but the thought of getting this strange pokemon to a pokemon center is at the forefront of his mind. He'd said he wanted to help. He'd meant it. Cabrian scoops up the luxury ball, tucking it away in his sleeve next to Admiral's. They'll be friends. He hopes. Goodness, if Admiral can't be friends with them, no one can. Whatever it is...goodness but he is getting into things far beyond his meager knowledge. He may need to call Devereux for help on this one. For now.. For now, as Cabrian walks forward, he can see a line of trees, the beginning of some woods. Any horror movie he's seen might tell him it would be terrible to go in there. Goodness knows what could be in there, who could be in there? Unlike his family members who hide under a mountain of pillows, Cabrian walks right into the supposed danger - flashlight in hand, one new pokemon at his side. Thick trees, many fallen to the dirt, do not rustle. No mechanical whirs or beeps or anything. It is eerily silent, save for the steps of his own feet as he pushes through the branches. What else might he find? OOC: Cabrian moves to Subarea 2: Fractured Woods!Current Status: No changes! Admiral's StatblockWailmer // Level 5 // Male Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | 30

The woods grow darker and darker the further in Cabrian goes. And the further in he goes, despite the thought that one might find life and noise and the existence of Pokemon further into a wild area, there is not. It grows quieter, quieter... the silence eerie and disquieting. It is almost as if whatever is here, anything on this island, is under the same terrified spell as the chimera.
The only light is that of Cabe's flashlight, bouncing off of massive trees that loom like specters ready for the plunge, weeds that grow unchecked, snaking vines that might move at any second. The only sound is Cabrian's breathing, and his very quiet footsteps as they shift through leaves and twigs through the footworn path. It isn't even a real path - just something that looks like it has been worn down by traffic, and not much traffic at that. What on earth was Salve Co. doing out here?
The thought will have to wait, however, as glitters of light begin to dance in the black distance outside of the beam of Cabrian's flashlight. Pale blue, at first, like a siren - and then a lavender. And then pink, and gold - a pastel rainbow of fairy lights, twinkling where there should be nothing to twinkle.
A piercing shriek echoes through the woods.
And then, leaping over a tree like a proud show-pony, bounds a Ponyta, his hooves stretched before him. He lands almost seamlessly, but then has to skid to a stop a handful of feet away from Cabrian. He whinnies, shrill like a ghost, and rears, his hooves lashing the air. The hair of his mane and the cream color of his fur seem to be the culprit of the fairy lights, glimmering in that pastel hue. He paces back and forth across the path, as if Cabrian is some kind of massive roadblock that he can't simply run around. The horn upon his forehead shines obsidian - and then shines golden as it begins to glow, and the Ponyta shies before rearing again with another neigh. The glittering lights appear again, for a brief moment.
It doesn't seem like it's inclined to be friends right now... and if anything, the frantic pacing and bucking, the wild look in its eyes, seems to imply that something spooked it, terribly! If not dealt with in some manner, the Ponyta might just - at this rate, at least - decide the closest course of action won't be to go around Cabrian, but through him! Something has clearly sent this Pokemon into a fight or flight instinct. Just what is going on at Salve Island!?

The sudden shriek and appearance of the ponyta right at his feet catches Cabrian off-guard, and he takes a half-step back as he looks the pokemon over. It's...well it's beautiful and he'd love to know more of what it is and why it shimmers so, but the pokemon has other plans. It's scared, aggressive, both perhaps, but obviously in no mood to be talked down. At least not by him. He grabs Admiral's pokeball from his sleeve and tosses it in one smooth motion, right at his own feet. "Admiral, I need your help, my friend."
The whale pokemon has a moment to orient himself as he emerges - it's been so long since he's been in and out like this! Once he realizes what he's been summoned to face, he further realizes how aggressive this pokemon is looking toward his trainer. Well, that just won't do, will it? Right then! ...what should he do? "Admiral, please try to ease its worries, that we mean no harm. We will fight if we must, but try."It is a desperate instruction from a trainer whose gentle heart he is coming to love, and the wailmer decides he will do his best! He will help his trainer! He hopes! The sound that emanates from Admiral is an oddly relaxing, gentle sound from such a large pokemon. Almost like a piece of a song Cabrian can't quite recognize. Did Grandpa say something about this? He is unsure, but Admiral sing it nonetheless, gentle tones to soothe an anxious heart. OOC: Battle Begin! Wailmer used Growl! It rolled... 4 ! It hits!

The ponyta rears again, actually bucking this time, flinging his mane about his face with a frenzied snort as a new Pokemon is entered into what really isn't a fray, but might be thought of one to a clearly unsettled creature in fight or flight. He whinnies again, stomping his hooves. Doesn't this human know what lurks in the dark!? Why isn't he frightened too - he should be running! Why isn't he running, why is he opposing...!
He's never seen a Wailmer before. He's never really seen trainer kept Pokemon either, save for those... but... no. The people in lab coats weren't really trainers. They had rotten hearts, ones that were laid bare by his eyes. They used Pokemon, they didn't love them. Nobody did. Nobody did! Right?
Was this one going to hurt Ponyta, too? Was he going to take a chip of horn, shave away at his head, use him, too?
The song of the Wailmer isn't... it isn't a sound or call of a Pokemon desperate for release, nor one desperate to get away. It's... calm. Gentle. And the trainer -- ease it? No harm? How is that ... - but the Wailmer does not stop. The frantic pacing pauses for a moment, antsy hoofbeats striking the earth. His ears twitch, and then he rears one more time, his whinny still shrill and high with pitched emotion, but not quite as aggressive as before.
The pacing becomes minimal, more of an antsy shuffle in place. Ponyta tosses his head around a few times, but he does seem to be calming down quite a bit. But there's still a concern, a fear in the way he pins his ears back, the wildness to his eyes. He still could flip and charge at any moment.

Admiral's song seems to get through to the Ponyta, enough to get it to be more calm, to stop whinnying and stomping. To listen, perhaps? Cabrian's partner pokemon truly is a wonder. He'll have to hear the song again sometime, maybe on the water. A ponyta demands his full attention just this moment, though, so it'll have to wait. It's still on edge, still anxious, but that's exactly why Cabrian can't bring himself to tell Admiral to attack. It's alone, it's scared, and it's only just calmed down. Something has hurt and frightened this pokemon, made it untrusting and wary. Cabrian is not keen to add to that weight or repeat those offenses. Try, he'd told Admiral. Try. "Please do not be afraid of us, little one. You have been hurt enough, we don't want to do that to you. We want to help, if you'll let us. This is Admiral, and I'm Cabrian. We're not from this island. After a while, we will return to the mainland, and I know we'd both be happy to have you with us. If you're hurt, we can help you get well. And you would never have to come back here."
Cabrian steps forward and crouches down on the ground next to Admiral, retrieving a luxury ball from his sleeve. A lower point, lowered defenses to show sincerity. "I don't know if this is a scary thing to you, but I promise it does not hurt. You are safe in the ball. Admiral can attest to that, if you want to ask him about it."
On cue, Admiral rolls side to side, just enough to gently bump Cabrian and get a gentle pat in return. His song turns to cheerful noises, like he is echoing his trainer. Yes, very safe! It looks so small but it is perfect size! And it gets to be your very own!! To come on an adventure!! "If you want to come with us, you are welcome. If you do not, we understand. I don't know what's harmed you, little one, but we don't want to be among them."
He holds out his hand, and the pokeball out with it. He gives the Ponyta a gentle smile, then tilts his head to one side, careful not to stare too long. "We are here for you, whatever you choose." The Ponyta bobs his head up and down a few times, snorting. He scuffs his hooves, pawing at the dirt, but generally, the wild abandon and the near manic look in the Pokemon's eye is gone. Admiral's song seems to have done a fantastic job, soothing the savage beast into one with reason... albeit, one with fear, and perhaps a bit of untold trauma.
His ear flicks forward and back as he listens to Cabrian's words, whickering quietly, thrashing the silky length of his tail. Admiral. Cabrian. This is different, too - informal. He remembers names such as 'Holding Cell #30D', or 'Experiment 017P', or Doctor, Assistant, and such. Pokemon names. Not... names. Maybe... no. Maybe this human really wouldn't hurt -- but is that possible? Aren't all humans evil? Terrible? Corrupt? He's seen so many impure, tainted, cruel souls.
Cabrian steps closer and Ponyta shies backwards, making a quiet anxious noise - he does not go too far back, though. No. No, he cannot go backwards. There is only forwards, away, away from that -- that.... -- Admiral makes a noise that distracts him, and he stops again. Safe? This...
This is unusual. He doesn't know what to think. He has never known 'adventure' - just a single, tiny cell... and the examination rooms. Will this human hold up? Is he just as evil as the rest? Oh, Ponyta has been made to look at so many souls, judge purity against his will, had his magic used over and over and over until he could barely recover. Had his horn scraped and cut, had his blood drawn, had been shackled, held down when he lashed out. He has never been lucky.
But he has to know.
Quietly, the Ponyta steps forward. He pauses in front of Admiral, anxious, studying the other Pokemon as if waiting for an attack. When he does not, he walks even closer, until he is face to face with the human - Cabrian. The unicorn Pokemon snuffles softly, and then looks the man in the eye. There is a quiet feeling, a connection that seems to flow between the two - Ponyta's mane and tail begin to glow again at a dim interval. It feels as if being stared through, down to the very soul. And what he sees... oh. ...Oh. A childhood of pain, and loss, but a lifetime of support, family, love. A kind heart. A gentle... a kind person. The metaphorical unicorn of humanity.
The Ponyta is completely still, now. The odd feeling fades with the glow of his hair, and he shakes his head just a little. He never expected. Never thought... He still isn't sure. He doesn't know if it could be true, that humans could be good, that this is a good human, right here. But the only way to know... is to try.
He reaches forward, snuffles at Cabe's hairline, and then bends a foreleg to bow before the man, ever an elegant creature, pressing his velvety nose to the Luxury Ball.
Ponyta is sucked in with a flash of golden light.
The ball rumbles in Cabrian's hands.
One rock...
Two.

Cabrian watches until the pokeball stills, and then raises it to his forehead. "I promise, we'll keep you safe. You can leave your pain behind you here. We'll see you soon, little one." He means it, every word, even if he has no idea what he's doing for the most part. He'll learn. These sweet pokemon need him to. At present, further things call. As he puts the Ponyta's new pokeball in his sleeve, he stands and takes a look around. The further they've walked in, the more...inorganic things have shown up. There are twisted bits of metal, plastics, the flash of glass here and there. What happened here? What caused this damage? What made Ponyta run? The police officer in him can't stop now. If the pokemon are in such a state, he can only wonder at what he might find, what needs to be found. "Admiral, buddy, let's keep going, over that way." Cabrian points toward the direction Ponyta had run in from, perhaps toward a source of information. "I know it's going to be a little rough, but please stay out with me. We're better together, aren't we?"
The happy low noise that Admiral offers is all Cabrian needs to confirm, and he smiles as he steps forward, flashlight in hand. The way is not easy going, but he has to keep looking. For pokemon in trouble, for information, for anything. This place is a story that hasn't been told with detail. He has to know. And he has to help whoever he can. There is something wrong with the path that brought Ponyta to Cabrian.
A sense of foreboding sits like a thick fog over the pathway. The further Cabrian and Admiral walk, the worse the feeling gets. It is something heavy. Unsettling. As the path continues, it gets more and more barren. Surviving trees turn more and more to charcoal. Brown and green turns to black and grey, ash and dust. The twisted metal becomes chunks of sheetrock and pipe, and then unidentifiable substances, shards of glass. Instead of uprooted or broken trees, there are entire swaths of emptiness. Nothingness. As if the very ground has been carved away in chunks, ruts. Blasting zones ridged like teeth. Carved footprints of... something.
It is dead silent. No Pokemon are around here -- and then, there it is. In the distance far ahead - far ahead. As the duo break out into an open clearing, something moves. Shifts. A splintering noise of wood cracks through the air like thunder, and the silhouette of something truly, utterly massive pushes aside trees in the far distance. Massive tentacles are visible for a brief moment above the treeline, and a moment later, there is an echoing cry. A roar. It is a terrible, terrible noise, this scream - rippling and warbling like ice, like nails screeching across glass.
This must be what had frightened Ponyta so.
The beast's scream echoes through the wind, rippling into an uneasy silence. There's another snapping sound of wood, another flailing of the tentacle-like appendages before they disappear into the trees once more. And just like that, so far away, it is gone - trailing into a path far beyond. It disappears into the woods, almost as if it had never been there. The absence of what is left behind is the only evidence that the sighting well and truly had happened. No wonder Ponyta had run. Some things on this island... there are a lot of untold stories. This is yet another - one that is perhaps... best left alone, at this point in time.
Just beyond the devastation left behind the unknown... something, however, is the true clearing. The real destination that Cabrian and Admiral were headed towards. The Salve Co. Laboratory... or what is left of it.
Supposedly, the research facility on public record had been a small one. There wasn't much word for what they'd been researching, however. Most public seemed to think that it was for agricultural purposes. But this... the shell of the building is massive. Large chunks of ceiling and wall have given way, even pieces of the foundation cracked and unsettled. The wood is completely gone - and all that remains of any windows are the scattered pieces of glass and window frame. The absolutely frightful state of the facility matches a truly massive explosion - one that easily matches the devastation blown into the woods from earlier.
The police report said the cause of the accident was an old generator gone bad. Or...something like that, though it is difficult to imagine a generator doing something this catastrophic. Entering the facility shows little of what is left.
The storms have gone for now, but pooling water is left in dripping puddles, soaking into the scattered remnants of carpet and cracks in the concrete floors. It's unclear if this place was very furnished, or if what there was has just been burned away. There are... oddly shaped imprints of something that has burned away, that would lead one to think perhaps the latter. Perhaps. Some of the rooms still appear to be... somewhat... intact, at least. There is no paper trail, no remnants of the workers left behind. No names, or records, or information... whatever was being researched, it has been lost, either way. But there is still some evidence of what was happening in this facility. It was most certainly NOT agricultural.
One room has burnt out frames of cages lining the walls. Some of the doors have fallen off. All of them at one point were open. Another has shattered glass, twisted pieces of metal and shards of remaining glass giving the ideas of large tubes. There is no evidence of what was inside them, however. Tables nearby in the room have been overturned.
Another room... ah. This appears to be the break room. As Cabrian and Admiral walk in, one might almost imagine what a day might have been like in the facility. If that day was post-apocalyptic, perhaps. A massive countertop lines one wall, surrounded by hollow remains of what must have been shelves, the warped remains of a dishwasher, and a sink that has had the faucet tap nearly ripped off of it. The fridge is surprisingly intact - as are a few desks that still have computers around them.
One of the computers... is still on.
This should not be possible. The power system was destroyed with the building. Unless there was a backup generator... but then - why wouldn't anything else be powered? The text on the half-shattered monitor is still visible, with its LED lights flickering dimly.
The desktop is visible - it is almost completely clear, no folders in sight save for one, and the recycling bin. But the thing most of note on the screen is an alarm pop-up that has appeared, flashing red. [CRITICAL ALERT, CONTAINMENT BREACH UB_05, WARNING, WARNING] it says. It continues to flash, continually... again, and again... but wait - is there something going on with that unknown folder?
"PROGRAM VIRTUAL_001" is what the folder is labeled. A closer inspection notes that the folder is actually glitching - quite badly. It might just be the bad shape of the monitor...
Or one would think - until with a flash of light and an electronic screech, the LED pops and fizzes and goes out entirely as a line shoots outwards, beyond Cabrian and into the middle of the room! It coalesces in a white orb, hovering for a moment... and then it forms into a Pokemon.
Pink and blue is its color - pastel, pretty. But the pretty colors are the end of where anything natural is. The shape of the creature is... reminiscent of a bird? But it looks more like a badly carved child's toy -- all polygonal edges, sharp and jittery. The thing can't sit still, low-res though it might appear, unnatural. Bizarre.
It makes a glitching screeching noise, and then a handful of error noises that sound like a computer having an incredibly bad day - and then it echoes the error noises that the now defunct computer may have used... and then it makes its own unique noise once more. The entire time it is staring at Admiral, and then for a few long seconds it goes completely still and motionless... and then it dings like a microwave. A few seconds later, it calls out in its disjointed voice once more.
PooOOORRRrrrRRRRRRYYyYyYYY--RRRrr-Rrrr-rrrrrrrr-- The odd digital bird creature jolts in the air again, as it looks sharply at Cabrian and Admiral. It doesn't seem to know what to think. It doesn't seem to know much of anything of where it is at the moment, really, but the screech it makes again this time sounds like dial-up internet.
...Is this an issued challenge? Or a greeting? Hard to say.

This is a crime scene. It's an inescapable truth that Cabrian feels as he walks around the shattered remains of a building so unlike what they've been told. There is no way this was just some agricultural learning facility. The machinery, the lack of anything that seems remotely related to agriculture. The tubes, the discarded, broken locks. Keeping things locked up, probably pokemon, is not gardening. Keeping pokemon locked up...with broken locks. That isn't right. Why, why would they be cut and broken to release something if... This isn't right, and there is so little to go on. There are only things that reek of despair and loss. There is not a scrap of paper. There is so precious little to identify anything. Still, the police training Cabrian certainly has got him just an extra bit on edge, and desperate for something to go off of. What he's heard...it doesn't match. It doesn't. There has to be more. Computers are an often searched resource in an investigation, and Cabrian seeks them out without thinking of the clear and obvious fact that there is no power. Logic sometimes just has no part in the racing thoughts of a man in a unique and potentially dangerous situation. At any rate, it helps the slowly rising rate of concern for his own wellbeing. It doesn't take very long to find a block of computers, with walls blown away or broken, but he finds them as he should expect to find them - nonfunctional. Except for that one.Cabrian moves closer to the screen, bright and shining in the dark, a beacon in the night. It's not just on, it's reflecting an error messages. He fumbles in his sleeves for something to write with, and on. He manages to pull out a pen just before a light beam shoots past his side, coalescing a few feet behind him. The pen is dropped to the floor as a pokemon emerges from the light - or he thinks it's a pokemon. It must be. His mind is just focused on the task enough to notice the computer is no longer on, and then the pokemon makes... noises. It takes some effort not to snort a laugh at the microwave ding, and it diffuses any wariness he has. How can he be afraid of a pink microwave? Perhaps he should, but at this moment, the pokemon seems less scary than the ruins it's floating in. Finally, it speaks. Well. It makes some sort of word. Pori? Is that what it's called? Admiral is inspecting the pokemon curiously, bouncing up just a bit to look at it closer as if he's just meeting someone new. Waaaaaaaiillll, he calls curiously before turning to look at Cabrian. Human? New friend? He seems to ask, bouncing once more. "Hello there. Pori? Are you called Pori? I'm Cabrian, and this is Admiral. I am sorry to have startled you out of the computer. We're here exploring and helping, you see. This place, it's been abandoned, the people who were here are not coming back. I see you can power things, it's very impressive. Still there won't be anyone here anymore to appreciate your work and help. Would you like to see the world outside of the island? Where there are people and things to see? We'd like to help you get to these places and off this island. We'd like to learn things alongside you. Only if you would like to, alright? I hope you'll consider it. There is so much you could see and do and learn with us, and Admiral is so happy to meet you already!"Admiral croons excitedly and bounces again at the pokemon to emphasize the point. Yes! Friend! Meeting many new friends, how wonderful! Please come! "Pori, this is a pokeball, I'm not sure if you've see one." Cabrian holds up one of his remaining luxury balls, sitting flat in his palm. Would the pokemon go along? Would it understand him at all? One way to find out. "If you'd like to come along with us, you can tap it, okay? I promise, I'll make sure you are safe and not forced to do anything. We are here to help. Okay?" OOC: Cabrian attempts a peaceful capture! The pink and blue digital creature flits back and forth in the air a few long moments as it watches human and Wailmer both. It has never seen a Wailmer, really. Just pictures. Old, scanned pictures. The internet is very limited out here. Shame. He seems nice! It beeps at him, rotating in an entire somersault circle. Friend? (What is that?)
Humans, however, oh it has seen plenty. But none like this not in lab coats and formal wear and with all kinds of... implements. POORRRRYyRRrRR-rrrrrrr......rrrrrrrr......rrrrr..... This time the creature sounds like when someone calls a phone number and gets the busy line error beeps. It tilts a little to the side as its polygonal feet rotate wildly, as if buffering. Then, it rights itself and stares at Cabrian with its wide unblinking eyes.
Pori. Pori? Is it Pori? It thought it was file experiment PROGRAM_VIRTUAL_001. Is this what it is? A Pori? Huh. Who said the internet knew everything?
Do digital Pori dream of counting Mareep? No. Maybe. Yes? This one dreams of an outside world. Its limited network has clearly been incredibly flawed if it is missing so many things. What orbular Wailmer look like. What outland humans look like. What its own species is even called!!! It bobs back and forth like a desk toy, beeping and making a noise like a booting up computer. This seems... affirmative? Maybe?
Yes. Affirmative. It does not know what this Pokeball is either (yet another thing missing! It only knows PROJECT_BEASTBALL) - but there is much to learn!
The 'Pori' bobs forward, closer to Cabrian, and bunts its head against the ball. It takes a couple of tries, its nose brushing into Cabe's outstretched fingers, but eventually it gets sucked into the ball.
The ball wiggles a couple times, as if getting comfortable... and then - *ding!* it clicks and goes still.
The Laboratory is extremely silent, now. There is almost no noise to be heard at all outside Cabrian, Admiral, and the dripping water. The building seems abandoned, with its broken equipment, open cages, and the lonely fizz of a now broken computer. The hour is beginning to get late, too...
OOC: Attempt to capture! Roll... successful!
CONGRATULATIONS! You have captured a PORYGON ! Please add the statblock below as a new post to your tracker for your new Pokemon! THIS HAS BEEN YOUR FINAL ENCOUNTER! Please make one last post for any final thoughts, actions, and roleplay, finish out the thread, and mark it as FINISHED at the end, please.
