Midday | Clear | Sebastian and Samuel
The Lab's waiting room was... tense. There was a certain breathlessness about the air that came with the recent death of the professor. Without her, the sterile walls just seemed more barren than usual. There was no one else in the room at the time as the young man was there.
Which was a good thing for Sebastian, who was incredibly nervous for this whole encounter. He'd only gotten back to the lab from his... adventure not even a day or so ago when one of the tech's came over to ask him to do this for them. They explained that a young man had wanted to get a pokemon checked out, and while there were others who could do it, Seb was the most senior field researcher on staff. So while he was at the lab he could maybe do it for them? He had more experience after all. Curse his soft heart of course he accepted, and here he was with a clipboard. Feeling very much like he was somehow trying to fill Yew's shoes. Which he was, in a way. Yew had been the one to give him his first pokemon, and he was going to, for the first time, let someone else see their new partner. So he took a deep breath and stepped into the waiting room, an anxious air about him.
"Samuel Anderson?" He asked just to make sure, even if he was the only one there. What Sam saw was an average sized man, maybe in his late 20s, early 30s if he had to guess. Wearing instead of a lab coat, a white and blue warm jacket. A pair of glasses were pushed more firmly onto his face as he gave what he hoped was an assured smile. instead he just looked even more nervous. "I heard that you requested the lab to look at a pokemon for you."

The only young man in the lobby stood, standing at an easy six foot tall with a long green coat coming to around his knees, the bottom of it stained with mud and dirt much like his pants and boots. Looked Sebastian over with bright amber eyes. “That’d be me.”
He walked over while he idly dug through the various pockets of his jacket and cargo pants until he found what he was looking for. Pulled out an old and dirty pokeball from one of them. “Found this way out in the mountains near a destroyed house. Thought it might have a critter inside.” He said, holding the old ball out in his palm for the scientist. “You able to help me out in seeing what is in here, if anything?” His voice was as rough as his face was, sounding akin to gravel falling down a hillside.

Seb took a deep breath. Ok. You can do this Sebby. "I can, yes. Come with me, I have a room set up for us." First he stepped forward and hesitantly accepted the ball. Then he turned and opened the door behind him again and held it until Sam followed, starting down the hall towards one of the many rooms for such a purpose. "So you found it in the mountains?" he asked after a long few moments of awkward silence.
"Was there any other pokeballs there or just the one?" Great Job Seb! he was talking to a person! Who wasn't... Mya. Or Arris, although he still was pretty hesitant about that last one. So just Mya. She was going to be so proud of him. Almost absently he ran the pokeball along his pristine white pants, leaving a streak of dirt. But that wasn't what mattered, he just wanted to examine the device for any faults. Finding none, he was satisfied enough when he opened another door to a relatively small room. Just comfortable enough for most average pokemon. Anything bigger would have to be taken elsewhere.
"Go ahead and sit down while I boot up my machinery." He offered, turning to the major machine in the room that would act as a PC, and to see what kind of pokemon it was.

He followed quietly, humming to himself a moment in thought. “Pieces of some yeah. This was the only one intact though unfortunately.” He mused. Took a seat. “You get a lot of people coming in with poke balls they just found?” He asked. Rubbed his hands together idly to keep them moving.
For being as big a guy as he was. For as rock steady as he seemed. The thought of meeting this Pokémon made him nervous. Didn’t know what would happen. ’Poor thing’ll probably be terrified. I mean. Left in a ball for eighty odd years. Opened up by people it won’t know.’ He thought to himself quietly, bouncing his leg.

"Occasionally. There are a lot that people hid throughout the region, so it's not the most uncommon method of getting a pokemon." He said after a moment, the screen humming to life in front of him. "a-and there were go. This will tell us what the pokemon inside is, if there is one." he smiled nervously again, though it was meant to soothe.
Seb used a rag to finish wiping off the dirt and grime, before he hooked up the ball in the machine. And a reddish light scanned over the device. It wasn't helping that the researcher was awkwardly sitting there, finger tapping on the outside of one of his own balls. As if anxious without the pokemon out and in his arms. But thankfully it didn't take long for the tech to bring up a line of information and an image of a small black and orange pokemon.
Sebastian perked up and looked at it, then smiled. "Oh! It does have one. Looks like you have a healthy little Salandit." He seemed immediately brighter as he explained this, offering the ball back to him. "Salandit is the Toxic Lizard pokemon. You even lucked out and got a female, so she'll be able to evolve. They're not a very common pokemon, so she's definitely an interesting one. If you'd like to meet her, you're more than welcome to bring her out here, nothing in here is really fragile. And if anything bad happens, I have my pokemon on me so it'd be safe." He patted the trio of pokeballs on his belt lovingly.

He perked up a bit and then put his thinking face on. “Yeah we can but uh… how do Pokémon from eighty years back even… well… act. They’ve been in there so long and the people who caught them and took care of ‘em aren’t here taking them out?” Clearly something he had put a lot of thought into on his hike back to town.
He stood up and dusted himself off a bit, walking over to peer at the ball. “She ain’t gonna try and attack us hopefully.” He muttered, crossing his arms across his broad chest. Was more nervous than he thought he’d be, foot tapping quietly. Didn’t want the poor thing to get hurt.

"M-most don't remember a lot from back then, from what we can tell." Sebastian soothed, though he knew the anxiety. "Mostly disoriented, or confused. I-if it helps, I can let you meet Everest, my partner. S-She was the pokemon I got from the lab when it all happened." Not to mention that Seb wanted his partner out and about. Now that she'd been healed from her near death encounter he was a lot clingier with his baby. Not that she seemed to mind, but he didn't want to pressure anyone else into meeting a pokemon they didn't want to.
"B-but like I said, she should be fine. She seems healthy, a-and if anything goes wrong we can put her r-right back in the ball." He explained, "But if you don't want to take her out that's fine! This is just a safe place to do so, it's reinforced j-just in case. And I can answer any questions beforehand, if you'd like?" Seb offered another nervous smile.
Arceus above, why didn't he just say no and make one of the other researchers do this. This was way too much talking with a stranger for his liking. He was going to need some serious alone time after this. Maybe he'd lock himself in one of the labs and refuse to human for a while. That sounded like a great idea.

He slowly reached for the ball, taking it gently and inspecting it. Making sure it was secure and sturdy. Didn’t want the one familar thing this Pokémon knew to be damaged or anything distressing like that. “So, what now? Never really have messed with poke balls or the like.” He said.
Stepped back a bit to get some room. Idly running his thumb over the surface. “Can’t be too hard I don’t think.” He mumbled to himself as he held the sphere. Tense and ready should things go wrong. It was kinda amusing seeing someone like him nervous about something like a Pokémon.

Sebastian reached over cautiously and showed him how to operate the ball. How to let his pokemon out, and the way to get them back in once he was done. "Once you get it down it's second nature, really." He explained patiently. This at least didn't give him more anxiety. He liked being a living encyclopedia. "Tt isn't hard at all! Not really, anyways, once you get used to it." He at least seemed cheery with that fact.
"A-And don't worry if you don't get along r-right away, i-it can take a lot of bonding work." He said as an afterthought, chuckling nervously. Like him with.. most of his Pokemon. to be quite honest. They were, for the most part, very spirited. Except his little laid back Kili. Even Sushi was a bit of a spitfire.

Listened to the instructions intently. “Alrighty then. If you think it’ll be safer you can bring one of your Pokémon out then I guess. Just in case they are a little violent and such.” He offered, still running his hand over the ball. Took a deep breath idly. It was just a little lizard after all.
As his hands were moving over it, the ball clicked and snapped open as he moved his hand in the wrong way, a red beam shooting from it to the floor. The small Salandit appeared rapidly, big eyes looking around at the brought room, squinting at the lights. She I then proceeded to flop on the floor with a pathetic smack against the tile, sitting still.

To say that Sebastian squeaked would be... a generous term. But Squeak he did, jumping as the ball was opened and the little lizard went plop. "Ah... that... would be how you open it." He said after a moment, looking down at the little one, then up at her new trainer. He didn't want to take the lead here, it was very important that the new trainer get used to his new partner. But he would set the example, sitting back down and making no threatening moves.
"Go ahead, say hi to her. They mostly understand us, we just can't understand them back." His voice had less of an anxious note to it, and more of a soothing one. Soft and non-threatening. Arceus above, this researcher would get himself beat up in Famine if he went there, Sam could already see it.

The large man looked startled. But got control of his expression. Knelt down to look the pathetic little Salandit over. She had her eyes closed and was sitting still. “Uhm. Well. Hi… I guess. Little lizard.” He started. Slowly transitioned to sit on the floor.
She made this throaty chirp that almost sounded like it was from an arcade machine as she opened her eyes just a bit. Looking up at him. Slowly got her feet under her again, eying these two humans. Made another of those chirps. Then another. Kept making them louder and louder as she got her bearings more.
Samuel looked at the researcher. “Is that…. Normal? I thought pokemon just said their names mostly.” He asked. Looked very unsure on how to proceed.

Sebastian's anxiety visibly melted as he watched the baby vocalize on the floor. And chuckled softly when she got unsteadily to her feet, an amused smile on his face. Oh this was exactly what he'd needed. Adorable baby pokemon.
"It's relatively normal. They'll still say their name, but a lot of them have other vocalizations. It's a sound made in the back of the throat, though it's never been recorded before. And I've never read about Salandit doing it." HE was pulling out his phone and pressing record to document the noise. "However, she doesn't look injured, so I'm unsure as to what it means. Just do what feels natural, you're doing great." Seb encouraged. Now that he was in his natural habitat, being a nerd, he seemed much more relaxed.
"Based on the tone of the noise, it may be a distress call? Or maybe a call for parents, though the two are usually synonymous. She does seem rather young, just like Everest." IT was clear that he wasn't fully aware that he was thinking out loud, just pointing the end of his phone where the sound picked up towards the baby.

He thought idly, his brow furrowing as he wrapped his head around the situation. "Got it. Guess the videos and stuff aren't the best resource for what reality is." He said, watching the small creature vocalize. reached down and picked her up under her arms with both hands. She stopped chirping and tilted her head, eyes opening more. "Not as heavy as I thought." Sam mused quietly, idly holding it closer so he could get a better look.
The Salandit wriggled slightly in his hands. "Sssssalan-dit-dit?" she chittered curiously, poking her snout at the arms and hands holding her up in the air. She then went limp, head tilted at the large human. Who was rather amused looking.
"Kinda pathetic looking. Guess she's cute." He stated, adjusting to hold her in one hand and gently poked her snoot, eliciting a squeak of indignation at the afront to her face.

Sebastian snorted softly to himself. Sat back and watched with something akin amusement, smiling. And there it was. The moment where the bonding really starts. He was relatively quiet as he let the pair do their thing, mostly just supervising to allow them safety should something seriously go wrong. Even if now, he wasn't quite sure that he was needed. So he cleared his throat after the indignant squeak from the little Salandit.
"If you'd like, I can stay. Otherwise you two are welcome to stay here for the next two or so hours. And if you would like, you can go elsewhere in the facility to one of our training areas. They're a little more spacious. And if you want, I can offer my phone number, so you can call me in case something happens." It was what Yew had done for him. Not that he hadn't already known how to contact the lab, but still. Having someone you could just... call in case of emergencies. Especially with such a young pokemon. "You don't have to take it if you don't want! I-I just f-felt like I should... offer... J-just in case. I-I majored in Pokemon Biology, s-so I know a little more than is average, is all." He shuffled nervously, uncertain as to how his statements would be recieved.
