time: midday weather: clear characters: Rebecca Cardinal , you? battle mechanics: none ❂ Rebecca Cardinal Rebecca would have been in utter awe at the size of Mistveil City, the number of people cramming its streets, the towering buildings -- completely different from anything she'd ever seen in Summerhill -- but then she spotted a Pidove on a streetlamp and stopped caring. She was already holding Galla, to make sure the Torchic didn't get lost in the crowd -- drawing stares; people were not yet used to the sight of Pokemon trainers. Now Rebecca clutched a protesting Galla to her body as she dashed in front of a bicycle -- oops -- on her way to the Pidove's streetlamp. Ignoring the angry biker, Rebecca forced herself to slow down as she approached the Pidove, not wanting to startle it. A small group had already gathered around the pole -- people with phones raised, taking pictures -- since wild Pokemon weren't quite a common sight yet either. "Are you a trainer?" someone asked, spotting Galla -- still unhappy -- in Rebecca's arms. "Are you going to catch it?""Um," Rebecca said, unable to figure out who had spoken. She would definitely like to, but the Lab's bulletins had said that battling in cities was illegal. And she could see why; there were too many people here for a battle to be safe, even if it was just between small bird Pokemon. "Maybe?"no one can stop me from spreading my wings

Percy is utterly, hopelessly lost.
Before travelling to the lab in Mistveil, his world had been confined to the small area outside of his family's isolated home. Cities were an entirely new experience for him, and this city in particular seemed to go on forever. He can't help but feel claustrophobic in spite of its size on account of the number of people that crowded the streets.
It's the calming presence of a Zubat that's made a nest in his hair that staves off a panic attack, and even encourages him to approach a gathered crowd whose presence piques his curiosity.
They surround a lovely little grey bird atop a lamppost, and Percy snaps a picture of it before pocketing his phone.
Overhearing a snatch of conversation, however, he can't help but to speak up -- so softly that he's lucky to be heard at all.
"Isn't that against the rules?" He turns red as he realises that could come across as a challenge, as rude. "S-Sorry, I'm new to this whole thing; I-I just remember reading something like that, but I probably misunderstood..."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal Rebecca might not have been able to identify the person who had asked if she was going to catch the Pidove, but she did manage to spot the man who responded, with more confidence than she had (though ... that wasn't exactly saying much; he seemed a bit nervous, actually). "That's right," she said, blushing quite a bit. Now they were both bright red -- but why was he blushing, when he was right? On Rebecca's end, she could barely believe that she'd been caught considering breaking the rules. It was just, in the moment the importance of those rules had rather paled in comparison to the fact that she could have her very own Pidove. "It's illegal to battle or catch Pokemon in cities."She'd just have to run into a Pidove somewhere else. Surely it wouldn't be that hard; they were common, or had been before the rapture, according to the distribution information Rebecca had read. no one can stop me from spreading my wings

Though he finds he can't look her in the eye, Percy doesn't miss the way her cheeks turn pink. Great, one of the first people he'd met outside of the Professor and he was making her feel awkward.
That he's right offers no consolation beyond the knowledge that he might've saved her -- whatever the punishment was for illegal captures. He makes a mental note to look that up.
It's then that he notices the Torchic squirming in her arms, and his awkwardness is shelved in favour of awe.
"What kind of Pokemon is that? It's really cute."
He makes a face as tiny Zubat fangs dig into his scalp.
"You're cute, too, Calli, don't be jealous."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal Asking about Galla instantly distracted Rebecca from her embarrassment. If she had messed up, well, talking about her own Pokemon would make her feel better. "This is Galla. She's a Torchic! They're a Fire type, known as the Chick Pokemon. They evolve into Combusken, which evolves into Blaziken."Rebecca peered at the stranger's own Pokemon. She recognized it; she was at least vaguely familiar with all Flying-type Pokemon, though her interest in those that were not actually birds was limited. "You have a Zubat ... Hm, I don't remember the tagline for those. They're Flying/Poison, right?"no one can stop me from spreading my wings

Percy's eyes widen as the girl proves to be a font of knowledge about the Pokemon in her arms. He can't help but to feel insecure, wondering if it meant he was a bad trainer, since he didn't know half as much about his own.
He does, however, know her typing, and nods.
"That's what the Professor said," he confirms. "I don't know her, um, tagline, you said? Is that something the Pokedex could tell me?"
He had installed the application on his phone at the Professor's urging, though he'd yet to really figure it out. Most guides didn't deal with phones as old as his anyway.

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "I always call it a tagline ... I don't know what the official name is," Rebecca explained. "But every Pokemon has a little description attached to them -- in the Pokedex, yeah. Like, Torchic is the Chick Pokemon, and Pidove is the ... Tiny Pigeon Pokemon."It took her a second to come up with Pidove's tagline, but no more than a second. She knew most bird Pokemon's information by heart. Rebecca looked up at the Pidove above them again; it seemed interested in the crowd gathering below, cooing as it gazed down upon them. "Pidove is known for living in large flocks in cities. They're supposed to be friendly but not very intelligent ... Though it looks perfectly smart to me."no one can stop me from spreading my wings
