time: day weather: clear characters: Takara Wilton, wild Pokemon battle mechanics: rolled The boat let Takara off on one of the old docks sprinkled across the Exegg Islands, the remnants of what had once been vacation spots, before most of the region had to focus more on survival and less on vacations. It was a beautiful day, sunny and clear, with barely a cloud in the sky -- but not too hot. A nice breeze came off the sea, smelling of salt and possibility. Takara was ready to catch some Pokemon.

{Takara is feeling he/him and they/them pronouns for this thread~!}Takara had not expected to take another venture into the wild so soon but... well... this was a special occasion. He looked down at Shri and she smiled up at him. She knew the drill. She was here was back up, but today was about potentially bonding with their new friend. Takara waved at the boat driver and watch him leave before he walked onto the actual beach, smiling as Shri kicked about in the sand. Cute. Takara knelt down himself and took out the new pokeball. It wasn't as polished as Shri's was, but it wasn't too beat up. Takara never saw the woman that traded him this pokemon, but he knew her name and heard this pokemon was rather.... rough to deal with. But Takara had faith. The tynamo came out of the pokeball in a red light, and immediately electricity began to brim along his sides. But... he didn't see the wench that had caught him originally. Just a smiling stranger and a riolu. Eelington was wary. "Hello, Eelington. What a fun name! I'm Takara. I traded you for another pokemon and, I guess I'm your trainer now?" Takara frowned. "But, as I understand it, you are a rather wild sort, so I wanted to give you the choice. This is a beautiful island. A little bit of research showed me that this might be a good place for you to live. Less likely to run into people wanting to capture you out here. Not impossible, but less likely." Eelington looked around. An island, huh? It was remote. What was this slick's angle?
"So, you can either travel with Shri and me, or you can live here. I'll release you. But if you wanna travel, we can hang out here and you can wait till the end of the day to make your choice." The tynamo thought about this. Hm. After a few moments of deliberation, the tynamo seemed to agree. He pushed the pokeball back towards Takara, but had a sort of look in his eyes. This was a test. It was time to see if Takara would pass. Takara smiled and stood up, picking up the pokeball and pocketing it. Shri scaled Takara up to his shoulder and smiled at Eelington. "Lead the way, Eelington! .... we'll probably work on that name later, though." With a nod, the tynamo led the way along the beach.

The first Pokemon Takara and Eelington saw as they made their way up a beach was a small caterpillar chewing on the edge of a palmetto leaf. Takara might, perhaps, question what insectoid god had decided that he deserved so many caterpillars in his life. Well, OK, two was not that many, but the fact that he'd run into another caterpillar Pokemon so soon after catching -- and trading away -- the last one was still weird. Unaware of the cosmic coincidence at work in this encounter, the Wurmple actually didn't even notice Takara and Eelington. It just sat there, absorbed in chewing its leaf. It was, in fact, a really good leaf.
OOC: A wild Wurmple appears! Eelington is faster than the wild Wurmple, so Takara can move first.

As they moved along, it seemed Eelington caught the worm's attention far before Takara and Shri. As electricity began to etch along his body, Takara cleared his throat. Eelington turned to look at him with a slightly judgemental gaze."Now, Eelington, I know you want to fight, but look," Takara pointed to the wurmple. "That pokemon hasn't done anything to you, has it? Why attack something that's in peace?" Shri nodded wisely as Takara spoke. Good. She was a little concerned there. Eelington seemed to think about them before floating over to the wurmple and giving them a slight look. Well... it sure didn't look like it was a threat. Eelington floated back over to Takara and made a small noise before moving along. Takara looked at the wurmple. Well.... they wanted to offer the wurmple a chance to be caught but, Takara did promise Eelington they would follow him. Takara did take out a berry slice from a small bag he brought with him and put a slice by the wurmple. "Have a good day!" He quickly followed Eelington, making sure not to lose the pokemon. Shri smiled to herself. She was proud of her trainer.

Eelington moved on deeper into the brush, away from the beach. Soon, he found a small stream trickling between the trees, no more than an inch wide. Beside the stream sat a Grass Pokemon, which turned at the noise of Eelington pushing through the bushes. "Lil?"The Petilil didn't seem particularly alarmed by Eelington's appearance -- or by Takara following him. It simply watched as it absorbed the nutrients and water in the soil. It certainly wasn't going to move from this great spot just because a floating eel had shown up in its vicinity.
OOC: A wild Petilil appeared! Due to the sunshine, Petilil's speed is doubled to 12. However, Eelington is still faster, so Takara gets to act first.  Petilil // Level 1 // female | Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | 9

Eelington turned to look at Takara this time. Once again, a non-violent pokemon. Interesting. Takara smiled at Eelington and then towards the new pokemon. He took out his phone and opened the pokedex app."She's a petilil, a cute little thing, isn't she?" Takara smiled at Eelington. "So, how about we try being nice to her and see if she wants to be our friend? She can say no, of course. The wild is her home. But it would be very rude to just attack her and try to capture her, hm? Now, it would be a different story if a pokemon attacks us." Eelington considered this logic. It was certainly more grace than was given to him when he was captured originally. He just wanted to get off that hook and was upset. Making a small tone, he floated closer to Takara's leg and decided to let the human lead. Takara made a small motion forward the petilil but stopped to sit down. "Hello! We apologize for the intrusion. I'm trying to show my new pokemon here that fighting isn't always necessary." He gave Eelington a small pat on the back. Eelington glanced up at him, decided not to shock Takara. "But we also want to add to our little family. So, I wanted to ask you if you would like to join us. You can say no, of course. You seem to have a good thing going for you so far." Shri jumped from Takara's shoulder and got an ultraball from his backpack, putting it on the ground before going back to Takara's shoulder. Eelington was watching the petilil intently. This was.... interesting.

The Petilil looked at Takara and Eelington with growing interest as it became clear that they weren't just going to keep walking. It tilted its head as Takara spoke, almost seeming to understand him, then watched Shri set out the Ultra Ball. Well ... it had gotten a nice refreshing meal and drink here. Maybe it was time to try somewhere else. The Petilil headed over to the Ultra Ball and gave it a little nudge with its head, disappearing into the ball. The ball shook once, as the Petilil considered the experience of being inside a Pokeball, then went still. The button flashed. Takara had caught himself a new Pokemon! Look at that, Eelington, no violence required.

Amazing! Takara smiled and picked up the shiny, new ultraball that was now home to a pokemon. He showed Eelington the pokeball, allowing the pokemon to think for a moment. "See? We don't always have to attack wild pokemon. She made her choice to join us. And if she said no, we would leave her alone." Takara stood up and put the pokeball in a safe place before putting his hands in his pocket. "But if a pokemon attacks us first, see that as a challenge of capture or of strength. You can defend yourself, but don't cause problems, alright?"
Eelington floated there, thinking about that for a few moments before turning and making his way through the trees and deeper into the island. Takara looked at his watch. They had time for a bit more walking, but soon they would have to leave. At least some progress was being made with Eelington. He couldn't wait to tell Yew. He smiled at Shri and soon followed Eelington through the underbrush.

As Takara and Eelington moved on from the stream where they'd encountered the Petilil, a second Grass-type Pokemon came flying out of the bushes, moving in long, lazy arcs ... one of which just happened to end directly on top of Eelington. As the Hoppip fell towards him, it looked down at the Tynamo in vague curiosity. "Iiip? Ip."Then it attacked, sucking the life-force from Eelington without even touching him. How horrifying, how -- oh. Eelington barely even felt the damage. But still, that was a very rude way to treat someone you'd just met.
OOC: A wild Hoppip appears! The sunshine doubles the wild Hoppip's speed, causing it to go first! The wild Hoppip uses Absorb and hits for 1 damage, placing Eelington's HP at 11! (The Hoppip would heal from Absorb, but it is at full HP.)  Hoppip // Level 1 // female | Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | | 7 | 7

Eelington let out a startled cry at the sudden attack, body flashing with electricity in anger. He looked back to Takara."Now you can attack," Takara said. Shri even nodded in agreement. This was enough grounds to fight back. Takara glanced back at the pokedex app and checked Eelington's current moves. He hummed. "Eelington, use spark!"
The tynamo faced the hoppip and began to slowly gather electricity along his body before rushing forward at full speed, aiming a direct hit on the offending pokemon. He would make it regret it's actions.

Eelington barreled towards the Hoppip, only for the pink Pokemon to bounce out of the way at the last possible moment, floating gently through the air. A clever move ... though actually, the Hoppip didn't even seem to notice that Eelington had attacked it, appearing lost in its own thoughts. "Ip, ip."The Hoppip continued to float around aimlessly, once again hitting the ground and pushing off. It did stay in Takara's vicinity; it clearly wasn't running away. But it didn't seem to be attacking with any kind of effective move either. It was as if after starting this battle on a whim, the Hoppip had forgotten how to continue it.

The miss was a hard toll on Eelington's ego, but it didn't register as fast as the burning rage. The tynamo let out a burst of angry electricity."It's alright! Try again!" Takara said, noting that the hoppip didn't seem to... do any damage that turn. Huh. Shri gave Takara a worried look and a frown. "I don't feel too great about it either, Shri, but it did attack Eelington first and, well, he could use a win, you know?" She could see the reasoning but still. The hoppip didn't seem to be running away but it also seemed as if it wasn't too well-versed in how battles tend to go. Why use a move that had no real impact or effect?
Eelington nodded and sparked himself up again, charging once more at the hoppip.

This time, Eelington barreled right into the Hoppip, causing it to cry out in pain and surprise: "Pip!"Eelington knocked the Grass Pokemon to the ground, where it sat bruised and twitching for a second, clearly very unhappy with this turn of events. "Pip, pip ..."But the Hoppip's surprise and hurt soon turned to anger, and it floated back into the air, glaring at Eelignton as it once again Absorbed energy from him. Again, it did little actual damage; Eelington would have no problem shrugging it off. However, this time the Hoppip actually looked a little better after the absorption, its wounds healed slightly. Only slightly, but every little bit counts.
OOC: Eelington's Spark hits for 5 damage! The Hoppip is now at 2 HP! The wild Hoppip uses Absorb and hits for 1 damage, reducing Eelington's HP to 10! The Hoppip restores 1 HP by draining Eelington and now has 3 HP. Hoppip: 3/7 Status: none Stat changes: Speed 20 Held item: none You have 4/5 Ultra balls. You have 1/1 out-of-battle heal left. That seemed to do some damage. Eelington gave a powerful cry in response to his power, although he didn't enjoy the feeling of his energy being drained from him.
"Alright, Eelington, hold on!" Takara said, getting out an ultraball and throwing it at the hoppip. It seemed injured enough. Shri gave Takara a puzzled look. "Well, I don't want to faint the thing, you know? Besides, someone might be able to give 'em a really good home." Shri smiled and nodded. She was... slightly confused at the previous attitude but, well, humans were confusing.

The Hoppip gladly vanished into the Ultra Ball; it represented a haven away from Eelington's fury. The ball didn't shake at all before the button flashed to let Takara know that the Pokemon had capitulated. Congratulations on your new Pokemon, Takara! A good expedition: Eelington proved his mettle in battle, if he ever needed to, and Takara impressed on Eelington the possibility of nonviolence. But Takara's phone was ringing urgently, so it might be time to head home.
