Professor Yew Again Oddish looked at the professor for reassurance after getting hit, and this time the professor hesitated, trying to calculate the battle's outcome. Oddish didn't look so good -- she could take another hit like that, but only barely. Meanwhile the Heracross still seemed fairly unbothered. Oddish clearly wasn't going to win this fight, but then she didn't have to knock the Heracross out, just weaken it enough for the professor to catch it. Still, there was no need for Oddish to remain in the ring until she was run ragged. "Good job, Oddish!" the professor called, holding out Oddish's Pokeball. "You've done great. Now come back and rest, and Absol will take over for you."With a look of gratitude but also pride -- she had done a good job! -- Oddish returned to her Pokeball, and the professor threw Absol's, causing the Dark-type Pokemon to appear in a flash of light. "We're going to catch this Heracross, Absol!" the professor said, with perhaps a little more confidence than she felt.
OOC: The professor withdraws Oddish and puts in Absol! I have used 0/3 items. Absol (active): 17/17 Status: none Stat changes: none Held item: none Oddish (inactive): 5/12 Status: none Stat changes: none Held item: none how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

A Wild Pokemon Appeared!
Weather: Clear || Time: Day || Rolled Battles
Oddish was switched out! Heracross uses Leer! It misses!
He was... not expecting his work out buddy to vanish like that, so perhaps that Leer was missed given it was aimed a little too low. But he soon took a gander at his new work out partner. Alright! Alright! This could work! Always good to get some fresh blood pumping! The heracross gave a battle cry and his his carapace, as if asking for the absol to strike him. To get strong!! For the POWER!!

Professor Yew Absol took only an instant to look across the battlefield and understand the situation. The enemy Pokemon might have started this battle, but Absol would finish it -- one way or another. Without wishing to belittle Oddish, Absol was a steadier Pokemon, a tougher Pokemon, a Pokemon who got things done -- and thus it was Absol's duty to keep her trainer and her teammates safe. "Use ..." The professor thought for a second. The Heracross seemed quite sturdy; she doubted Absol knock it out in one hit, even after the damage from Oddish's Acid. So it was probably best to use Absol's hardest-hitting move and try to catch it before it could hit back too much. "Pursuit!"
OOC: Absol uses Pursuit! I have used 0/3 items. Absol (active): 17/17 Status: none Stat changes: none Held item: none Oddish (inactive): 5/12 Status: none Stat changes: none Held item: none how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Absol uses Pursuit! It misses! Heracross uses Tackle! It hits! It deals 4 damage. Absol's HP is now 13!
The absol was fast, but.... heracross saw it coming. He dodged out of the way of the pursuit and geared himself up for a strong and firm tackle on the new work-out buddy. Yeah!! This was how you get STRONG!!!The heracross jumped away after his attack and hit his carapace again. Come on!! They weren't done yet!! There was so much training to do! Can't quit cause you miss, that's what he always says!!!

Professor Yew The professor winced as Absol missed and the Heracross hit her hard. Damn! Absol recovered quickly, watching the Heracross carefully as she waited for the professor's next command. Yew hesitated: should she throw a Pokeball now, or try to whittle Heracross' health down further? She had plenty of Great Balls, but if she didn't catch the Heracross, she would have wasted a chance to attack. But if she did catch it, she could save both Absol and Heracross a good bit of battle. (Not that the Heracross seemed to mind battling, but the professor didn't like seeing Absol get hurt.) Absol couldn't take too many more of those hits. The professor decided to go ahead and gamble on her Great Ball. "Absol, hold on! I'm going to try to catch it!"

Yew attempts a capture! Capture fails! Heracross uses Leer! It hits! Absol's defense is lowered by 1 stage. Absol's defense is now 14!
Ah! Vanishing inside some strange object? Nice trick, but nothing can stop these GAINS!!!The heracross burst from the great ball with a vicious state and a hard Leer at the absol. This battle wasn't over yet! They had so much working out to do! There was no way the heracross was going to allow a good work out session to end early! With another cry, the heracross hit is hard carapace. Time! To! Work! Out!

Professor Yew The professor frowned, a bit frustrated -- but she ought to have expected that the capture attempt wouldn't work. She was more upset that it had given Heracross a chance to lower Absol's defenses than anything. Now Absol wouldn't be able to weather Heracross's attacks as well ... And she would have to weather those attacks while they whittled down Heracross's HP until it could be captured. So that was what they needed to do next. "OK, Absol, another Pursuit!"Absol nodded and leapt at the Heracross again, undeterred by her lowered Defense. She knew her trainer was looking out for her.

Absol uses Pursuit! It hits! It deals 5 damage! Heracross' HP is now 5! Heracross uses Tackle! It deals 4 damage! Absol's HP is now 9!
Heracross skidded backwards at the impact to his shell. It left a mark on his carapace, but nothing that wouldn't heal over time. He gained his balance and let out another cry. YEAAAAAAHH TRAINING!!!!He charged forward at the absol, delivering a strong tackle to her. It seemed this battle was heating up and that the heracross was nowhere near finished.

Professor Yew "All right, hold on a second," the professor said, considering her next move. Not Pursuit again; the Heracross didn't look like it could take another hit of that magnitude. She didn't want to seriously hurt the Pokemon -- or drive it away. But Absol had other, weaker attacks that might whittle down the Heracross' health further. What about a capture? She was running low on Great Balls, and didn't want to leave Absol open for another hard hit if her capture failed again. On the other hand, Absol could take a couple more of those Tackles ... unless the Heracross managed a critical hit. And again she had to consider the fact that throwing a Great Ball early might save both Pokemon a good bit of pain and struggle. Hmm ... "Let's try another capture," the professor said, throwing a Great Ball.

Capture Success! Please add Heracross' stat block to your tracker.
Your encounter thread is now finished! Please make your next post about how you leave the area. Please be sure to mark it with FINISHED somewhere in the end.
The great ball hit heracross' head, zapping him inside. Alright, this was... strange. But maybe this was the proper way to having more work out buddies! Besides, he needed to rest his muscles a bit before training some more. But the moment he felt better, he'd be back at it! Getting stronger!! Getting more swoll!!The great ball clicked and stilled.

Professor Yew When the Great Ball fell still, the professor let out the breath she'd been holding. So she'd judged correctly this time -- and gotten lucky. Absol wouldn't have to fight anymore. She went and picked up the ball, putting it in her bag, then turned to Absol. "Good job, Absol. And you too, Oddish." This last directed at the Pokeball at her waist, where she knew Oddish could hear her. "I think that's enough for today. Let's head home.""Sol." Absol nodded and followed at the professor's side as she headed back towards the entrance of the swamp. While she'd never say so, Absol was tired and ready for a good rest -- and so, as it happened, was the professor. ||FINISHED|| how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?
