From: [Farrah Whitaker]; To: [Professor Victoria Yew] Subject: [Official League Paperwork] Time Sent: [XX/XX/2020, 02:37:12 AM]
Good evening,
My apologies for this email appearing so late at night, but it comes with a significant amount of good news nonetheless! A second dark type has been added to my team roster. I find that this would mean that all the prerequisite requirements for finalizing the beginning of the new Deprin Pokemon League are fulfilled. A lead Pokemon at level 15, as well as at minimum two of the preferred typing of the theoretical gym.
The paperwork that you emailed me a few weeks ago has been filled and signed, and is attached to this email for proper certification and filing. My apologies again for the delay, Professor - I will make time off my schedule to come in this week so that we might continue our last discussion from whence it left off.
Until then, Farrah Whitaker

It had been a few days since that email had been sent at unholy hours of the morning, and was the first time since that Farrah's schedule had been open enough to allow for them to slip away and come back to the Lab again to talk to the Professor. They had to admit to themselves - they were a bit excited. Almost a century since Deprin had anything to do with formalized laws regarding Pokemon, their existence, the cohabitation of such... and even moreso, the brilliant light that the League would bring to getting the Region back on it's toes.
With this in mind, it was with a bit of pep in their step that Farrah entered the lab that morning, their Pokemon on their heels. One one side, looking bright and chipper as he padded along was the musician's generally present partner, Decibel the Zigzagoon. And on their other side, looking about curiously as he walked next to his trainer, was a Houndour. A third ultra-ball, gleaming brightly under the laboratory light, hung casually off of their loose belt.
"Heya," Farrah smiled at the receptionist pleasantly. "If you could let Professor Yew know I'm headed back towards her office, I would really appreciate it if you've got the moment. Thanks!" They pulled out their phone as they headed the same way they'd gone last time they were here and double checked that they'd shot off a text earlier that morning to let Victoria know that they'd be there today. And it looked like they had, so... nice. Good to go. Farrah paused at the office door to pull out their tablet from their bag and pull up the paperwork. Best be prepared going into conversation, rather than bumbling about unprofessionally, right? That seemed like something their assistant would remind them of. With a final glance to the two Pokemon looking patiently up at them, Farrah gently rapped their knuckles against the office door. "Mornin' to ya, Professor Yew. This a good time for me to wander in on y'all again?"

Professor Yew Professor Yew opened the door, smiling. Her secretary had told her of Farrah's approach, so she'd already pulled out a printed copy of their paperwork; it sat on her desk as she welcomed Farrah to her office. "Hello! I'm glad you've had some luck looking for Pokemon." The professor looked down at the Pokemon accompanying Farrah. She knew Decibel, of course -- though he looked a good bit stronger now than he had when they first met -- but the Houndour was new to her. "Is this your gym team? Oh, come on in and have a seat."Oddish was in her Pokeball right now, but Spinarak sat in her web, watching the guests with interest, and Absol lay in her dog bed beside the professor's desk. The Dark-type Pokemon sat up as Decibel and the Houndour entered the room, always on the alert when meetings new Pokemon. Not that she was paranoid or anything -- she just liked to have a handle on the situation. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Farrah saluted Victoria as they followed her into the office, before patting their hip to encourage their two canines to follow. "I am too. Elegy's a good pup with a lot of promise," Farrah greeted. "This would be my gym team indeed - with perhaps a third stand-in if not Mosh. He," referring to the Seviper, "Opted to stay home. I've a different third with me today." They offered a little fingerwave to Spinarak, recognizing the spider, and at Absol as well before taking a seat and crossing one leg over the other.
Elegy - the Houndour - took up seat right next to Farrah, his head and back straight and proud. His eyes, however, remained curious. Both about the third dark type in the room, and at everyone else. Decibel, on the other hand... The Zigzagoon backed up, and took a running leap up into Farrah's lap. The musician huffed, a bit winded as their partner made himself comfy and settled down. Dec wasn't going to be able to do this much longer. He'd nearly doubled in size from when he and Farrah first met, and his once coarse, bristly fur had gotten significantly softer and more sleek as of late.
Farrah raised a brow at noticing the planter in the room was empty. "No Oddish out joining us today?" They asked curiously.

Professor Yew Spinarak raised a leg and waved back, making the professor smile -- that was adorable, and she was also glad to see that her Pokemon was adjusting well to a human-made environment. "No, Oddish is resting at the moment. She likes her planter, but sometimes it's easier for her to rest in her ball, where nothing can disturb her."The professor gently patted Oddish's ball, which hung on her belt. "It looks like you have a good team ready," the professor continued, smiling at Dec's antics. "And you've already done your paperwork, so I'd say you're all set to go. The Lab has approved grant money to help build and maintain your gym -- I have the financial information here. Have you looked at locations in Sylvanport?"The professor offered Farrah a packet of papers with banking information. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Farrah nodded with an understanding hum. Made sense. Sometimes a Pokemon could have a bit much anxiety and it was easier to have a nice little safe space where they could hide away and not worry about outside stressors or surprises. Farrah... could actually relate to that quite personally, with the amount of little hiding spaces and 'study' spots they'd had in college and grad school. "I can get behind that. I hope she's resting well then, in that case."
Decibel wiggled at the praise of being a good team. It was darn right they were! Even if the pup was a bit... he looked at Elegy. ...Excitable, he would say. Farrah brushed a hand through the fur at his neck gently before nodding. "I'd be inclined to agree. Plenty of room to grow and thrive, but with all the potential in the world. I couldn't be more proud of them." Farrah grinned as they took the packet gently to look through and go over it. "I appreciate the grant money going in - though I actually already have secured funding for construction at least, through... a personal donor, we'll say." It was Farrah's own money, yes, though it was through Winthrop Inc., the company that Farrah's family had run for generations. Since they'd taken over much of the business with their father pursuing his own... interests, it had freed up some of their own stipend to use as they'd pleased. Generally it just sat accruing interest in a bank. But there was more than enough to take on the construction of the gym.
They read through the information, however - signing off where pertinent so that the funds could be allocated and freed up if they ever needed to be. "That being said, for maintenance and upgrading of equipment as we go, it would be good to have the Lab's signoff on that." They looked up a moment later, blinking as if coming out of thought. "Ah. I'm sorry, I forgot to answer your question. I have - there's a perfect spot out by the east-side, a little ways out of city center and not too terribly far from a Pokemon Center. It's an old opera house I used to perform at before it shut down about five years ago. The buildings around it have been torn down, but it's still there. Plenty of room to renovate, build new facilities and expand. And... very fitting, to who I am as a trainer, and a person, if I am to represent the city."

Professor Yew The professor nodded in response to Farrah's well-wishes, and smiled at Decibel's little wiggles, before she focused on the topic of finances. She did find herself a bit surprised to hear that Farrah had already secured funding, but a moment later realized that she should have expected it. Farrah was a well-known musician; they probably had money and connections, even in a region as economically depressed as Deprin. Yew had no idea just how far those connections went, of course; she wasn't aware of Winthrop, Inc., at all, let alone that Farrah controlled it. But she appreciated Farrah's ability to self-finance. "It's good that you have some funding of your own -- the Lab is very willing to fund you, of course, but you may not want to go through us for everything. Here, you keep these, and I'll take your signature ..." The professor made sure Farrah took the papers that contained information they'd need -- account numbers, PINs, procedures -- while she hung onto the official documents that she'd have to turn into the Lab's accounting department. With that out of the way, the professor listened to Farrah's description -- and beamed. "An old opera house sounds like a fantastic site for a gym -- especially with your musical background. It is deeply fitting, and that's wonderful to see. A good gym should combine its leader's personality and interests with their chosen type and the aesthetics of the city around it -- but then you don't seem to need me to tell you that. And having space around it for other facilities is great, too. Have you started to look into purchasing it yet? Not to get ahead of myself, since you only just got the grant -- but the Lab can help with that too if you need us too."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

"Of course," Farrah nodded understandably. "And it's good to have the door open for the future communication and inner-working business to continue to be there." You never knew what might happen. And with grants coming through the Lab - and the funding from Salve Co. of all places... there was many reasons to be in tight communication with the Lab. Perhaps Winthrop Inc. should be making timely donations as time and funds allowed as well... maybe. Farrah didn't want them getting too much wind of what they were up to, either, afterall. Farrah very carefully folded the paperwork that Victoria had them hold onto, so they could put it in a lockbox later where it would be nice and secure. And so they could look over it carefully, as well.
"Yes!" Farrah grinned back, fingers twisting into Decibel's fur in quiet excitement. "I absolutely hope it goes though, because not only is it indeed as you say - a good combination of both city and myself - that opera house is a beautiful old monument to Sylvanport. I would hate to see it get torn down rather than restored to it's former glory and more." It would be heartbreaking. Farrah had always loved working in that gorgeous old building. To see it become something even more than it's original self however - to come back to the community bigger and better and deeper-rooted in heart than ever? That brought Farrah significantly more joy than they could quite properly express.
They nodded at Yew's question. "I have actually started talking with the realtors, yes. At some point this week there should be some folks out there zoning the property and looking it over for construction. I didn't want to jump the gun too much considering all..." They gestured with a hand, "You know. Not being so official yet... but I'll give them a call this afternoon with the go-ahead and be on the lines with the folks selling the property." Farrah grinned. "Perhaps a bit ahead myself, but no time like the present, right?"

Professor Yew The professor nodded a few times as Farrah spoke, impressed with their planning and initiative -- and appreciating their enthusiasm. Yes, they would make a very good gym leader, the professor thought. Not only were they clearly quite dedicated to the project, but they seemed to have a knack for getting things done. "No harm in getting ahead of yourself," the professor said, smiling. "It would have been a great shame if they'd sold or demolished it while we were doing paperwork, after all. And the quicker the gym is up and running, the better. Not that there's a huge rush -- I don't want to put pressure on you like that. But it'll be good for the region."Yew paused, considering Farrah and their team. "It sounds like you're really ready for this. While the gym is under construction, would you be interested in doing an exhibition battle with me, here at the Lab? It doesn't have to be today, of course -- in fact, since I'd like it to be an event open to the public, it really can't be. You don't have to, but I would love to see your Pokemon in action, and I think it would help to announce the League and show people what a Pokemon battle looks like."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

"Indeed," Farrah nodded. "No, I agree entirely with you on that front. The sooner things can get moving, the quicker we have a solid cement on ground zero and can start building up in the metaphorical sense. I think that fueled a lot of my ah... let's say, raucous energy in getting things moving." And it was nice that Yew agreed - that time was of the essence, and that it was a good plan to expedite moving forward. That put Farrah a bit more at ease to know that they were on the same page and headspace in that regard. "The region's certainly waited well before our years for things to finally stop being so upside-down, right? If we're able to make that push now, it seems fair to make it sooner, rather than later."
The musician - or perhaps, more accurately, Gym Leader - tilted their head in regards at the question of an exhibition match. It would certainly be a good way to gather public opinion, spread the word, start another little ripple in the water. Another step forward, certainly. Looking down at Decibel in their lap, and Elegy by their feet, Farrah slowly grinned as they nodded in agreement. "You're right. I don't think I've been this driven to something in a while. And I also am in more than full agreement to an exhibition battle. It would be nice to see your team in action as well... and would make an excellent broad announcement to the world at large. I'd love to do so as well. Do you have a particular day in mind in the future?" And how to get word out... There could be flyers, sure - and maybe Farrah could get their assistant to call up that radio host that Farrah interviewed or talked on once in a while. That would be a way. "You've also... there's that trainer news app from the Lab, right? That could be a way to get attention on the match."

Professor Yew The professor smiled. "Not to mention building in the literal sense. Yes, we've waited a long time for the League to come back. I don't think there's any reason to wait any longer."Then she turned to business: the exhibition match. "We should probably plan for at least a week out, to allow time for word to spread. Perhaps two weeks, though I don't want to wait too long. That far out, I should be able to clear my schedule for whatever day works for you. And yes, the trainer broadcast system would be a great way to advertise -- thank you; that hadn't crossed my mind."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Farrah couldn't help but chuckle, nodding. "Ah yes, that too." Indeed! It would take a while to build... but luckily it was mostly renovations that would be the issue, and the new facilities could come as they did. It would all work out well enough hopefully, with as little fuss as possible.
Holding back more seriously though, Farrah nodded. "That sounds good to me. Somewhere between next week and the week after? I can keep that clear. It's mostly earlier in the week when I'm busy - so any day past Wednesday works out most delightfully, I think." And their schedule could be flexible and perhaps their assistant could get in on spreading word too... they were a good hard worker. And they seemed interested in Pokemon and what Farrah did on a deeper level than just business. Surely they wouldn't mind getting the news out there. And it never hurt to ask besides. "Ah! I'm glad I brought it up then. A trainer bulletin, I'll speak with my assistant... I do think this is going to be quite the fun event."

Professor Yew The professor nodded. "I think it will be. We'll have a good time introducing Deprin to the new League."Yew checked her watch. "Ah, I'm afraid I have an appointment in fifteen minutes. But I think we've covered what we need to cover. I'll have my assistant get back to you on scheduling and we'll start advertising. Thank you for coming, Farrah, and best of luck with construction."Professor Yew went to her next appointment -- a starter selection -- with a spring in her step, and made sure to invite the new trainer to the exhibition battle. Things were taking off ... Soon Deprin would have a Pokemon League again! ||FINISHED|| how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?
