Morning | Clear | Battle Mechanics: Custom Sai yawned with a shaky stretch as they continued walking along the beaten path on their way to the next city. They weren't sure what time it was, but the sun wasn't quite up yet over the sea of trees, the fall morning still chilly enough that Sai could see a puff of breath as they exhaled. Casting a look down at the sleepy, staggering Silver that trotted alongside them, Sai smiled.
"It got cold pretty quick huh? Seems like winter will be here soon" They spoke softly, watching as Silver nearly tripped over a rock, but managed to catch himself. Silver paused to glare at the rock, as though it had offended everyone he'd ever known, before rearing back and tackling the rock, launching it several yards away...
Right at the back of a small orange birds head!!

Kain steps in the way of the rock. "OI!! Fuck was that for?" He rubs his calf where the rock hit him. Torchic turns to face Silver and Sai "CHICKY!!!" He spits a small gout of flame at the ground, scowling at the offending Aron. Kain steps forward, carefully rotating his ankle. "So...does your little tyke always throw rocks at random people, or am I a special case? Or...was that a challenge to a battle? I'm game if you are." Torchic scratches at the ground, glaring daggers at Silver. Kain leans down to lightly scratch Torchic's head. "Ready for some action, little one?"

 Sai balked, eyes wide as they watched the rock hit the person instead of the small bird. Their eyes darted up upon hearing said person speak, swallowing nervously at the mini fireball.
'I might not have been a trainer for long...but i'm pretty sure Silver is weak to fire...'
"I-I-I'm so sorry! He didn't do it on purpose, I promise you! He just is a little clumsy, and got angry when he tripped, and then he hit the wrong away. He didn't try to hit you or your bird!" Sai wheezes out nervously, the words having spilled out before they could think them over, let alone stop them. Sai cast their eyes down to Silver who looked even angrier than he was at the rock, stamping his numbs indignantly in response to the Torchics' scratching.
'shit'
"We...We weren't trying to challenge you, honest-"
They started to say, before silver charged forward, taking advantage of the slightly muddy ground, still wet with the morning dew, and kicking up a strip of mud right at his opponents face. He'd teach this little bird to spit at him!

Kain frowns, "You all right, Torchic? Don't let that walking lump of metal show you up!" Torchic puffs up, letting out a burst of flame aimed at Silver with no small amount of malice behind it. Unfortunately, with the mud currently smearing his face, Torchic's aim is wide and he scorches the ground near Silver instead of the direct impact that he wanted. Kain sighs, "Keep your chin up, you'll hit him next time!!" Sai didn't realize they'd been holding their breath until they let out a sharp exhale as the fireball launched, and narrowly avoided singing Silver, who absolutely did not yelp and scramble away, glaring up at the human. Next time? Next time!? If this human wasn't careful, Silver would give him a tackle! Sai swore mentally, before giving a short, shrill whistle.
"Silver! Hold up buddy." Sai spoke, looking up at Kain, eyeing the man warily.
"If...if this is something you want to do, then I guess we're battling..." Sai said, before straightening their posture, throwing their hand out just a bit dramatically.
"Silver! Use tackle!" They shouted, as Silver leveled a heated glare at Torchic, readying himself with a full body wiggle.
'Ron!'
Was all the bundle of steel said, launching himself at the bird head on.

Kain winces slightly, "All righty then...give Ember another go, remember to lead the little bastard!" Once Torchic finally rights himself after the hellacious Tackle, the small chicken screeches in defiance of Silver. Torchic plants his little feet, takes aim, and launches another gout of flame towards Silver. Kain smirks at Sai, "Looks like he's taking it seriously now...my name's Kain by the way. Yours?"

Sai hisses sympathetically as they watch Silver get hit square on by the burst of fire, yipping in agony as he paws frantically at his face, only succeeding in getting his paws burnt as well. Silver drops onto the ground, rolling around as he desperately tries to put out the flames.
Panting hard, and breathing fast, Silver manages to succeed after far too many seconds of burning and pain. Pushing himself back up to his feet, staggering more than just a bit, Silver lets out a huff, looking up at Sai.
"You're gonna be alright buddy, not much more now, okay?" They say softly, looking back up to Kain, having vaguely remembered they'd been talked to. Blinking a few times as they wracked their brain, they nodded, remembering what they were asked.
"O-oh...I'm Sai. It's...nice to meet you..." They spoke quietly, voice a bit tense, before looking back down at Silver, the duo making eye contact and nodding.
"One more. One more buddy, you can do this. Mud Slap!" Before Silver, albeit a bit slower this time, launched a sludge of mud at the bird. He really hoped this was the end of it, though he had to admit, he'd underestimated his foe.

Kain winces as Torchic hits the ground again. "Oh damn, you ok little buddy?" He holds a hand up, standing between Torchic and Silver. "All right, you won...stand down. You said your name was Sai?" He gently scoops Torchic up. "You did good...mkay? Especially since we are so early in our journey." He looks back up at Sai, "Is your friend ok? That ember looked like it did some damage."

Sai winces as the shot of mud manages to knock out the little bird, looking between Torchic, Kain, and Silver, who pants and shakes, before slumping hard onto his belly with a weak groan.
'Ronnnn'
Sai smiles softly and nods, dropping down to a knee, resting a hand on Silvers back. "You did great buddy, rest up, okay?" They say with a pat, before standing back up, walking to Kain as they rummage in the satchel hanging on their side.
"He gonna be okay?" Sai asks, just a bit nervously as they eye the muddy little bird. "Sorry about all of this again, Silver gets...very competitive..." They said with a weak smile, rubbing the back of their neck in a nervous tic. This man was huge, and Sai really hoped he didn't hold a grudge easily...

Kain smiles softly, "Ain't nothing but a thing, you got a phone?" He gently cradles Torchic, squatting down. "Hey little guy, your name is Silver, right? My name is Kain, and this is Torchic. Would you like more chances to battle us?" He looks back towards Mistveil. "I should take Torchic here to get healed up. Here's my number." He hands Sai a piece of paper, before walking off in the direction of Mistveil.

Sai blinked a couple of times, their eyes going down to the paper, and back up to where the man, 'Kain', their brain helpfully supplied, had been standing. Was this normal? Was Sai supposed to give Kain their number? Should they have given it to Farrah? They puffed out a breath of air, confusion painting their features, before typing the number into their phone, looking down at Silver.
"Let's get you to a pokecenter buddy, you did so good today." They said, chest swelling with pride as they gingerly scooped up the exhausted bundle, only getting a tired 'Ronnnn' in response. Carefully adjusting Silver in their arms, they began the trek towards Mistveil, wondering if they'd run into Kain again, hopefully, under better circumstances!
