Posie's wide glasses gleamed against the artificial light of the several monitors now covering her workspace. Wires draped all across the backside of the tower and monitors like electric spider webs. Stacks upon stacks of research papers, lab results, peer reviews have invaded Posie's desk and rendered it into a snowcapped peak that stretched below the two full moons.
The winter came and went in the sensation of distorted time to both Posie and her still unnamed Phantump, who at the moment was humming down the dark hallways of the apartment complex. Satisfied with her work in the rooftop garden and effortlessly phasing through the walls, she set down a small spade by the doormat and to her dismay found her trainer still inside at the glowing boxes. For the past couple days its been like this, and although the ice was harsh on her leaves, she still appreciated the warm and beaming sun that peeked out from the clouds after a snowstorm. With a haunting whine much like a childs, she tugged on her trainer's pant leg trying to break the extreme focus. This was, unfortunately, not uncommon. Her trainer Posie had a frequent habit of these hyperfixations that almost guaranteed days of lethargy. "Hm? Oh! Oh Phantump I'm so sorry, I was supposed to join you up in the garden today wasn't I? I'm so, so sorry...I got caught up in this research again. How about...I make it up to you by a trip to Mistveil soon! I've been meaning to talk to her about grass types like you for a while now, and I do hope these findings will help her!"
Posie went off into a tangent, and the phantump responded with a child-like pout. She crossed her arms and in an epiphany, quickly swiped an armful of the research from the desk then dashing out the door. Sheets scrawled with meticulous words scattered all down the hallways as the ghost taunted her own trainer with a sense of pride.
"Hey! Phantump, I worked hard on those, please!! Ughhh come back here!"
All down the sidewalks of Sylvanport, heads turned as a woman in a lab coat chased down an impish ghost pokemon right into the night and the dark of the Gladegloom.

❂ Rebecca Cardinal Rebecca's first attempt to locate birds in Gladegloom was not hugely successful. She'd spotted a few interesting Pokemon, but hadn't gotten close enough to any of them to complete a capture, and now she that she was thinking of leaving the forest, she realized that she had no idea how to get back out. Hesitating, she held Galla in her arms, squeezing the Torchic slightly for comfort. Meanwhile, Mimida fluttered around the branches above; she didn't yet feel close enough to her trainer to perch on Rebecca's shoulder, though they were working on that. Fortunately, Rebecca caught a glimpse of a human form hurrying through the brush. "Hello? Is someone there?"Still holding Galla, Rebecca moved towards the other person, calling after her, "Come on, Mimida! Let's ask them for directions."The Pidgey followed reluctantly, less certain that the human form would turn out to be helpful.

"Oh no, come onnnn I worked hard on this research! Its going to take me all day to find the missing pages..."
Posie sighed and with a dejected spirit collected as many pages as she could that weren't flying in the breeze. Any work she could salvage was good enough she supposed, but in the back of her mind with the new weight of her pokeballs in her bag she was somewhat glad she was forced outside the home by the impish little ghost.
"Hello? Is someone there?" cried out a voice from the forest. Posie swiveled her head and caught herself before she tumbled back onto the dirt to face the voice and meet eye to shining full glasses with another trainer holding an odd orange bird of sorts in her arm. The warmth from the thing radiated across Posie's frantic concerned filled expression, melting it to at least a small bit calmer.
"Oh hello...I didn't know there was anyone else here in the Gladegloom today.."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "Neither did I," Rebecca said, smiling in relief. She didn't notice Posie's worried expression, too busy thinking about what she'd do next once she left the forest. "But I'm glad we found you -- we're a little lost. Do you know how to get back to town?"Mimida flew out of the branches and, absent a better perch, landed on Rebecca's shoulder so that she could get a good look at the stranger. Rebecca was too trusting and open, the Pidgey felt; she should be more wary of strangers. Even if this one didn't look very threatening. That Phantump could be a problem, though, if she chose to be, and Mimida watched her carefully. "Gee!"Rebecca, meanwhile, unaware of Mimida's thoughts, just felt flattered that her often-standoffish Pidgey had finally chosen to perch on her. She would have liked to pet Mimida, but she didn't want to disturb her -- besides, her hands were full with Galla. no one can stop me from spreading my wings

"Oh! It's that w-"
Posie's excited gesture of pointing back to Sylvanport wilted along with her finger as she looked into the winding maze of trees and shadow. Dejected, Posie sighed and straightened out the mass of paper in her grip. She followed the literal paper trail that hadn't already been either tossed around in the wind or stolen by the pokemon crawling in the dark of the forest. Posie looked over her shoulder to Rebecca and her pidgey with a tired smile.
"Well I suppose we should get moving before we get really lost huh. I'm pretty sure the way out is this way, at least I remember chasing after my pokemon this way. As you can see..."
Posie gestured down at the ground, groaning as she uncovered more pages caught in bushes, stuck in branches, and some were even being used by bird pokemon as nest material.

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "Oh ..." Now Rebecca noticed Posie's mood, her lost papers. Was she imposing? Or would Posie have to head back to Sylvanport anyway? Maybe Rebecca could help out. She started picking up papers as they went, trying to keep them from getting too crumpled, though some of them were pretty damaged. When she saw that birds had taken some, she winced; those probably wouldn't be coming back, huh? Unless ... "Mimida, can you go grab those pages?"Mimida looked at her trainer skeptically. She'd joined Rebecca's team for battles, not chores -- and she didn't want to take away other birds' nesting materials for what she saw as no good reason. "Please?" Rebecca added, and Mimida relented, flying up to grab some pages from other Pidgeys -- almost sparking a battle, but Mimida cawed harshly at the other birds and they backed down. She wouldn't be able to recover all the lost pages, but she could help out a little, at least. no one can stop me from spreading my wings

"Thank you so, so much. I guess my little one's way of getting me out of the house was scattering all my work through the forest..."
Her already wild looking hair was even more ruffled from crawling in bushes, climbing trees, and traversing the Gladegloom inch by inch for her research papers. Though even with Rebecca's help, some pages were torn up or covered in mud. With a sigh, Posie tried her best to salvage what she could and was thumbing through the sullied pages. She glanced over to the pidgey who, Posie considered herself lucky that her phantump was much more behaved and agreeable save for this one prank.
"Are you from here? I haven't seen anything like that one you have in your arms there."
She tilted her head towards the torchic swaddled in Rebecca's arm, with a slight tinge of concern as she felt the warmth radiating from the small bird.
"Please do be careful though, I'm no ranger but I would rather we avoid a fire if possible. Though i'm only really knowledgeable of plants and....to an extent grass type pokemon....so I probably don't understand how fire types function. Then again I have seen some stranger ones flying about."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "That's ... not the best way to get you out of the house." Rebecca looked doubtfully at the Phantump, and at Posie's ruined research. She didn't want to scold someone else's Pokemon, but she was glad she didn't have behavior issues like that with her own Pokemon, even if Mimida didn't always listen to her. "Do you have your research backed up? Like, on a computer or something?"Rebecca shook her head. "I'm from Summerhill. Galla is a Torchic -- the Chick Pokemon. My family used to breed them as guards for their farm, before Pokemon disappeared. Don't worry -- they don't just spontaneously catch fire." The image made Rebecca smile a bit, amused; that would be very inconvenient. "They can spit fire -- up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit -- but Galla's very well-behaved. And having that flame sack inside makes Torchic nice and warm to hold."Rebecca squeezed Galla a little bit, as if to demonstrate. Galla, however, looked at Posie coolly, a bit offended that someone would think her so incompetent as to start random forest fires. no one can stop me from spreading my wings

"You come a farm too??"
Posie's eyes lit up and her excitement bubbled up to the surface as she looked at Rebecca with wide eyes and began to wave her arms up and down in joyous stimming.
"You simply must let me visit some time! My family has a farm just outside of Gladegloom actually, though my sister inherited it with me pursuing the more scientific path of things. She's more capable with her hands than I am, my parents passed it down to me of all people though..."
Posie rustled the recovered pages in her arms and smiled at Becca, then down at the torchic Galla comfortably held in Becca's arms. Belle meanwhile was up to no good, like an impish child and playing ghostly pranks on Mimida. Spectral hands rustling feathers and vanishing as soon as the poor pidgey turned around all were a game to Belle.
"I'm a botanist, though I suppose now I'm a little bit more since I'm researching pokemon. I was actually going to bring these papers to the professor until, well you can see what happened. Though in a way, I'm happy that Belle's prank dragged me outside!"

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "My family has a farm," Rebecca specified, a little overwhelmed by Posie's sudden enthusiasm. "I don't work there anymore ... I mean, I'm sure my parents wouldn't mind if you wanted to visit. It's all mushrooms now, though -- not very interesting. I think my parents are planning to revamp it with some of the new crops we can pollinate now, but I don't think they've actually done it yet."Mimida was clever enough to realize that something was up after only a few ghostly rustles and feather-tugs; highly offended, she retreated to Rebecca's shoulder to complain, "Pi!""What is it, Mimida?" Rebecca asked. "Is something wrong?"Then Posie was talking again. Rebecca smiled and nodded. "I'm glad she did too, if only because we wouldn't have met otherwise."no one can stop me from spreading my wings

Posie thumbed through each of the scattered papers and, with a dejected sigh, simply rolled them up into her coat pocket.
"Well, I was hoping to not have to print more than I needed but there's no salvaging some of the pages that got caught in the streams or got crumpled by wild pokemon. It's just going to be tedious to have to print the missing pages only...but an afternoon with some tea will help that along anyways. Phantum's leaves actually make for some very nice medicinal tea! If you'd like, I can ask Belle here is she wouldn't mind parting with some. You're also more than welcome to visit the rooftop garden in Sylvanport!"
A smile shone through the exhausted scientist, and Belle twirled with happiness at the success of her plan! It didn't account meeting Rebecca and this cranky Pidgey, but it all worked out in the end! She was seeing her trainer bloom and grow, and that made her equally as happy as seeing the vibrant greenery dotting the rooftop of the otherwise dreary apartment complex. She gently plucked off some of the viridian leaves from the branches and offered them to Rebecca with a smile.
"So now you show some manners when all the trouble has been gone and delt with by someone else"

❂ Rebecca Cardinal Rebecca frowned in sympathy as Posie spoke of having to re-print pages. That was too bad -- and paper and ink could be expensive, too. Why had Belle thought it was a good idea to throw her trainer's pages away? Rebecca found herself quite glad that her Pokemon weren't so troublesome -- Mimida might not seem to like Rebecca so much, but at least she didn't actually make problems for her. "That's very kind of you," Rebecca said to Posie's invitation, though she wasn't actually very interested in tea, or in rooftop gardens -- unless they had birds in them. Which they well might. While she was considering what to say next, Belle offered her the leaves, and Rebecca took them politely. "Thank you, Belle."Rebecca laughed a little at Posie's reaction. "That's just how it is, isn't it?"no one can stop me from spreading my wings

"Mhm, but it's a nice change of pace. The spirits from the Gladegloom have their way of enjoying themselves, that goes for Belle too. She actually is well behaved at the rooftop garden at- home!"
The cityscape of Sylvanport conjured themselves from the thick canopy of the forest, and atop the hill they stood from the meandering bird pokemon were pecking at any loose seeds before taking off with a woosh into the distance. Belle sung happily and tumbled down the hill with an armful of plundered berries. She tossed some to Rebecca's torchic and pidgey, sticking out her tongue and waving goodbye in her ghostly laughter.
"Well, here we are! She also likes to venture out and "borrow" stuff for the garden. Though you should see the good she's done with the place, a crummy old rooftop is now a lush garden! With some help from a few poison types who enjoy the garbage...at least now the pokemon in the city don't have to fight for food as much."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "Thank you so much for helping us find our way," Rebecca said, smiling, and putting Galla down so that the Torchic could get at the berries Belle had thrown. Mimida, meanwhile, scorned the snacks ... at least while Belle was in view. She remained on Rebecca's shoulder. "Your rooftop garden sounds great," Rebecca added. She hesitated, unsure if Posie meant the mention of the garden as an invitation to visit it -- Rebecca sometimes had trouble picking up on social cues like that. But no, surely Posie had a lot of work to do re-printing and fixing up her research. "Good luck with your research -- I hope we run into each other again someday."Rebecca bent to pick up the berries Belle had thrown so she could give them to Mimida later, once the Pidgey had given up her pride. ||FINISHED|| no one can stop me from spreading my wings
