time: day weather: clear characters: Professor Victoria Yew, wild Pokemon battle mechanics: PR rolled battle This thread is an example to demonstrate how to format threads and how a battle should play out. Below is a sample encounter between Professor Yew and a wild Pikachu (played by Admin). Note that all of the flavor text and actual RP you are required to include in your battles has been stripped from this one; this sample battle only includes the OOC sections of the trainers' posts. Ordinarily, your first RP post would be right here where these paragraphs are. In this case, Admin is running the battle and making all rolls and coin flips for Professor Yew. Information in {brackets} would be rolled but not explicitly included in the post. Note: In a real wild encounter, the mod will create the thread, not the player.
My team: Absol // Level 5 // female Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | 17 | 24 | 16 | 18 |
Ability: Super Luck - Absol crits on attack rolls of 1 and 2 rather than just 1's. Held item: none Moves: Feint, Leer, Scratch, Quick Attack

A wild Pikachu appears! Pikachu // Level 5 // male Max HP | Attack | Defense | Speed | 11 | 14 | 12 | 22 |
Ability: Static - If Pikachu is hit by a move involving physical contact, flip a coin. On heads, the opposing Pokemon is paralyzed. Held item: none Moves: Growl, Thunder Wave, Quick Attack, Thunder Shock
Pikachu's speed is higher, so Pikachu attacks first! Pikachu uses Growl, hits, and lowers Absol's Attack by one stage (15%). Absol's attack is now 21. {Growl has an accuracy of 100, so Pikachu needs to roll below a 20 to hit. Pikachu rolls a 14 -- a hit.}

Absol's Quick Attack hits and deals 4 damage! Pikachu's HP is now 7/11.
{Quick Attack's accuracy is 100, so Absol needs to roll below a 20 to hit. Absol rolls a 6 -- hit. Quick Attack has a power of 40, Absol's Attack is 21, and Pikachu's defense is 12, so the adjusted damage calculation looks like this: (40 * 21) / (12 * 2) = 35. Thus, Quick Attack does damage equal to 35% of Pikachu's max HP (11), or 4 damage (rounded up from 3.85). Due to Pikachu's Static ability, Admin flips a coin, but gets tails, so Absol is not paralyzed.}
Pikachu uses Thunder Wave and hits! Absol is now paralyzed.
{With Thunder Wave's accuracy of 90, Pikachu needs to roll below an 18 to hit. It rolls a 9.}

{Admin flips two coins: the first to determine whether Absol can move and the second to determine whether Absol remains paralyzed. The first flip is heads and the second is tails, so Absol can move but isn't cured of its paralysis.}
Although Absol is paralyzed, it successfully uses Scratch.
{Scratch has an accuracy of 100 and a power of 40. Absol rolls a 10 to hit (needed a 19 or lower). Adjusted power = (40 * 21) / (12 * 2) = 35, 35% of Pikachu's 11 max HP = 3.85, round up to 4. Since Absol is already paralyzed, there's no need to flip a coin for Static.}
Absol's Scratch deals 4 damage! Pikachu's HP is now 3/11.
Pikachu uses Thunder Shock! Thunder Shock has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target, but Absol is already paralyzed. However, it deals 8 damage to Absol.
{Thunder Shock's Accuracy is 100, so Pikachu needs below a 20 to hit; it rolls a 14. For a 10% chance of paralysis, Admin would a d10, with a 10 resulting in paralysis -- but Absol is already paralysed, so it's not necessary. Thunder Shock's power is 40, so (40 * 21) / (12 * 2) = 35. 35% of Absol's 17 max HP is 5.95; however, since Thunder Shock is the same type as Pikachu (Electric), the damage is multiplied by 1.2. 5.95 * 1.2 = 7.14, and damage is always rounded up, so Thunder Shock deals 8 damage to Absol.}

Pikachu uses Quick Attack and misses!
{Pikachu rolls a 20 on its accuracy roll -- 20's always miss, except with guaranteed-hit attacks, which do not need to be rolled for.}

{The exact formula for calculating capture chances is not posted for non-moderators. However, capture chance is based on a Pokemon's individual capture rate as described in the Pokedex, the Pokemon's remaining HP, and whether the Pokemon has a status effect. The result of a capture attempt is then determined by a d20 roll. Pikachu has a capture rate of 190 and a remaining HP of 3. As a result, Professor Yew's roll of 10 successfully catches the Pikachu.} You have caught Pikachu! Please copy and paste the following statblock into a new post on your character's tracker.
