The night was pitch black if not for the lights of the small ship showing the way. Despite the weather being in the ship's favor, the waves roughly pushed it to dock at the rotting wooden structure one would call a dock. There were three hours granted to everyone on the boat to explore the island, using their Salve Co. given Luxury Balls. The rules were simple: explore, capture some pokemon, then leave. Yet it was odd... the island had always been closed and now, some time after that mysterious explosion, it was open again. Not that it mattered... a free ride to the island to explore its mysteries sure was a gift that should not be ignored. After all, this island had been a media buzz for months. Who knows what's out here? A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

Devereux frowns quietly down at the phone in his hand, his gaze reading over the latest news articles again, and again, and again. Things just... don't add up. A massive explosion on Salve Island that Richter Scales felt measurements of on the mainland. The almost flippant police ruling of an accidental fire -- for something of that magnitude. The formal formation of the Pokemon League... only for what happened.... Ahihaka mews from his lap. Her eyes glow brightly in the dark, the only light aside from Devereux's phone screen and the ship's own lights. He sighs softly, and as she reaches her head up to sniff at and then bunt his fingertips, he acquiesces and puts his phone away, occupying himself with petting the tiny Litten instead. "I know," he says softly. "I know, I know... I just -- it doesn't feel right. But that's why we're here. Yeah?"A dead professor, a terrorist attack - maybe multiple - and a lot of cast suspicion. Devereux doesn't know why he was extended this invitation to the elusive Salve Island. But he isn't about to look a gift Ponyta in the mouth. This is an opportunity to look deeper. To take notes, explore. Learn. As a trainer. As an ecologist, grieving the loss of a brilliant mind. As a man who can't help but get himself in trouble trying to do the right thing. "Hey, stay safe out here, alright?" Devereux's voice is worried as he disembarks, his boots sinking lightly into wet and rotting wood. It is unsteady, and Ahihaka has already retreated to the shore, caterwauling at him. His attention is on the crew of the boat, however. Dev feels a little guilty already -- this was the skeleton crew, a boat that had left at a truly late hour of the night. The captain had assured him that the weather was good, all things considered, but... still. "See you all soon."He is waved off, and so Devereux and Ahihaka begin their journey inland towards Salve Island. Ecology notebook for field notes in one hand, hand-charged lantern in the other, Luxury Balls in pocket, he's ready. The hairs on the back of his neck are on end, and even Ahi seems to be staying close to him, protectively. Devereux doesn't know what's out there, in the pitch black dark just beyond the beach they are now trekking across... but the two of them are about to find out! Night || Clear The black sand of the beach seemed to match the darkness of the sky, absorbing the light of the natural world save for the flood lights of the ship, but even their glow slowly begins to disappear the farther one moves from the shore. The island's darkness would be well fit for silence, but amazingly, it's very much alive. The crash of the rough waves helps add a backdrop to the rustling leaves of the trees and the various cries of pokemon across the island. Despite the sounds of life, it did not erase the island's mysterious past and any potential unease on any visitors or inhabitants. After all, some pokemon are anxious around any sort of human. And this one was no exception. What was a nice walk on the beach and quickly turned into a nightmare for the gooey pink thing. As soon as the human had come into its sight, the pokemon seemed to shift and become more of a glob as it let out what could only be described as a horrified scream. It's beady eyes quickly latched onto the Litten and the pink gelatinous mass swirled and twisted around itself until its pink coloration faded into black and red and, standing before the pair, was a perfect replica of Ahihaka save for two beady black eyes that stare back. The copy-cat's fur stands on end as it lets out a defensive hiss. A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

Nature... is fascinating. Devereux's eyes roam in every direction as he walks. He can't see a lot, but what he can is amazing - all the senses are. The way he feels like he's walking into the void just beyond the dim light of his lantern. The way the air smells like sea breeze and fresh ashes. The way the sand is silent beneath his already quiet footsteps. The way that, despite the eeriness of it all, the island is so completely and utterly alive. Alive, and right in front of him, cast into the pale white light of his lantern, and -- oh Arceus be kind, what in the world!?The last thing Devereux is expecting is a wild Pokemon to melt like a gelatinized mush upon being exposed to the lantern. The gasp he makes is clearly audible and horrified, and he takes half a step back, feeling like ice has replaced his guts at the sound of the twisting, horrified scream. It echoes, loudly, in the perceived dark, and the tall man feels all of the hairs on his arms and the back of his neck go up on end: a warning sign, a feeling of panic, this is danger, run, run--A loud meow from Ahihaka drags him back into reality, and he takes a long, sharp breath, shaking his head. She is standing directly in front of him, her little back arched protectively, tail thrashing. Nothing will hurt her sweet human! Devereux steadies himself as he watches the... the... "What... are you?" he queries at the blob twisting incomprensibly into itself. In his panic, he hadn't gotten a good look, and he certainly doesn't know what it is now. ...Or, maybe he does. "...What?" The question appears to be directed at nobody in particular - an interjection of raw unadulterated confusion, perhaps. From a formless Pokemon that melted into raw pink and screaming goo, into a twisting mass of slime that has now congealed into Ahihaka. Kind of. The eyes weren't right. But Devereux could tell a frightened animal when he sees it. And he knows Ahihaka's body tells. This isn't an aggressive animal. It's a terrified one - probably just as scared as he is. "H-hey there, woah, woah, its...--"Ahihaka interrupts him with a warbly murr, the fur along her spine rising. It's a warning noise, a threat. A little growl - as threatening as a kitten as tiny as she is can be, at least. Defense of her trainer is very serious, and one she throws herself into headlong. Don't hurt him, don't dare hurt him, and I won't hurt you, her body language seems to say. She's just about to dart forward when Devereux kneels down and holds a hand out, quick to stop her. "Woah -- Ahi, Ahi, sweetie, no no, wait hold on!" She stops short against his hand, but looks no less defensive and wary. "Hey now, hey - it's okay. We aren't gonna hurt you, nobody wants to hurt you... it's okay lil' one. We didn't mean to scare you. Shh, shh... see? It's okay. You're okay."Devereux does his best to make himself look smaller - a daunting task for a man of his size - and all of his movements are very slow, very clear to the unknown copy-cat in front of him. His hand lowers to his coat pocket, and carefully, ever slowly, he pulls out two treats. He hands one to Ahihaka in an attempt to calm his partner, but the other, he very carefully holds out in the direction of the copy-cat. "See? She had one too - it's a goodie. A treat. It's yours. It's okay, breathe, we're okay..." OOC: Ahihaka uses Growl! Devereux also attempts to disengage a fight peacefully! CURRENT STATS: No changes! Night || Clear The ditto jumped a foot in the air at the scream and continued to arch, trying to make themselves a bit bigger. It had tried to copy humans before- no... it was forced to try and copy humans before. It couldn't pull it off. But a Litten was an easy challenge and even then, the ditto felt horrible fear at the fact that they had angered the pokemon of a human. What would happen to it? Punishment like all those times before? More needles? More pain? The human's words would have been drowned out if the Ditto had a heart. Or blood. But it didn't. So it heard everything clearly. And yet it was still terrified. When the human moved, it backed up, partially melting again to move away and partially remaining solid. Like a weird gelatinous mix of a melting Litten that soon came back to proper shape and size. What was this? Another order? Another picture to copy? A... a... a treat? The ditto came forward ever so slowly. Not with its legs, of course, but with its head that stretched out into a thin little neck as the Litten's head stayed the same size, sniffing the treat. Wow, he sure would like to have a nose. Or a sense of smell. Still, he was a master of blending in... ignore the neck. And his eyes. The Litten's mouth darted forward to the treat, the head staying where it was, as the little sharp teeth grabbed the food and the body soon darted backwards, reforming again into the Litten as the ditto ate the treat. It never realized how hungry it was... Cautiously, it approached the human and his cat again, its own form solidifying again in the cat's form. Liiiiiitten, it says softly. No pain? No needles? Treats? A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

Oh, the poor sweet thing... Devereux won't deny that watching the not-Litten twist and morph and... melt... among all these other very wrong, very unusual things that a Litten should absolutely not be able to do, is setting his nerves on edge. His mind is screaming at him that this is terrifying and wrong and he should take Ahi and run away right now immediately. But even louder is the voice screaming in his head to nurture, protect, and defend. This creature isn't a monster. It isn't a living nightmare come to murder him in the dark of the island shadows. It's a scared Pokemon, just like any other. And his job, the thing that he spent years in college to learn how to theoretically (and now, actually) do, is to study, help, and nurture Pokemon. This is his element. If not now, when? "There you go... see? It's okay, little one, it's safe. Ahi won't hurt you. Will you, Ahi?" The real Litten in question has been standing still, completely shellshocked at the Ditto's movements. Even her tail stopped thrashing. No cat moves like that. No cat melts like that. What is happening!? Devereux nudges her gently, and she nearly jumps, looking up at him with wide eyes. "Right, Ahi? We're friends. No fighting, right?" She pauses, and looks back at the Ditto as if considering. And then, with a sense of finality, she sits down and rubs her cheek against Dev's calf, making a soft trilling noise at the other Pokemon. Dev smiles, and offers the smile to the Ditto, too. Very carefully, he reaches into his pocket once more - the same one - and comes back with two objects. The first is another treat. The second... is one of the Luxury Balls. "These are for you, if you want them," he says gently to the copycat. "You seem hungry, mm? When's the last time you had a full meal, you sweet thing...? Here - more goodies, yes?" He sets them down within reach of the Ditto - one next to the other. "The treat is yours, no questions asked. The ball... this is used to bond trainer and Pokemon, in friendship and safety. You can come with me, if you'd like. I promise, we'd always keep you safe. Food, warmth, comfort... and all the treats in the world. But it's your choice, little one. I would never force you to do something you don't want. If you'd rather Ahi and I leave you be, we'll leave you be. You're gonna be okay." OOC: Devereux attempts a peaceful capture! CURRENT STATS: No changes! Night || Clear The ditto looked between the trilling cat and the human. Then the treat and the luxury ball. It slowly came out of the shadows and its form melted into a muddle, the color draining into a soft pink as it soon came to a blob-like form that was, perhaps to some, cute? No, adorable. The soft pink color and the soft looking gelatinous material that made up its rubbery body and those two little black beady eyes and the thin line for a mouth. Ditto, it said, two little pieces of its form rising up like little arms. Its eyes vanished as it seemed to moistened itself on it's own form and they soon returned as they blinked out of sync at the human and his fire cat. This human seemed different from the ones the ditto had gotten used to. The ditto wasn't stupid, of course. It could recognize fear... but despite that the human and his pokemon extended kindness. It had been a long time since the ditto had experienced it. The last time was when its cage had been opened and left open, gently directed outside before the explosion that shook the island's very core. Yes, this was like that, but better because there was food involved. The ditto grabbed the treat with its little 'hands' and brought it to its mouth, nibbling on it. Taking its time to enjoy the food. Once it had finished, it seemed to smile. Ditto! The ditto stretched an arm out to the luxury ball and tapped it, being zapped inside where the ball clicked instantly. Yes, it would join this human. It liked the warmth it felt already and besides... getting off this island seemed like a plus. A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

It feels as though all of Devereux's muscles and tension relax all at once, the moment that the ball clicks. He didn't even realize how tense he was, until his shoulders fall and he exhales the longest, loudest sigh. It's accompanied with a smile, however. "Welcome to the family," he says softly as he picks the ball up. Ahi's big eyes look up at him, and his smile widens, scritching a line down her spine. "We'll make sure you stay safe with us. I promise."It takes him a moment to stand up, with a quiet grunt. He has to stretch his back and shake his leg out to get the stiffness to go away. Gods, he isn't even that old, why is his body like this? Alas. He presses the tiniest kiss to the top of Ditto's ball, before tucking it away like a treasure into his pants pocket, where there's no chance of getting lost. Ahi shoves herself against his leg with a warm purr, and Dev chuckles, looking down at her. "That's right, Ahi! We've caught our very first friend. Our first Pokemon companion!" She trills up at him and he can't help the absolute idiotic grin on his face. It's a huge thrill - even if he can't help but worry for the fear that this sweet Pokemon possessed. ...But the fact that it was this scared at all... "Ahi. Why do you suppose - what was happening... is happening here, that caused that sweet little Pokemon to be so terrified of a human? That can't... that wasn't normal. That was a panic response." The Litten thwicks her tail, and her ears flatten back as she murrs in response, thinking. Devereux can't understand her, but he gets it all the same. "Yeah. I think something isn't right here. Come on, let's keep going inward. I want to see what's been happening on this island."With a much more solemn (though adventurous) nod between trainer and partner, Devereux and Ahihaka continue up the sand beaches until they reach the treeline. And then, with one deep breath, and a moment to crank his little lantern again to have as much light as possible, Devereux continues inward, Ahihaka at his side, blazing a trail into the infinite dark of the Fractured Wood. There's something terrible happening here. Devereux knows it. And he intends to find out. OOC: Devereux and Ahihaka move on to the Fractured Woods (Sub-area 2, please!) CURRENT STATS: No changes! Night || Clear The broken forest was proof enough of the horrible explosion that tore through this island... and even more so were the large pieces of metal that were littered across the ground. Some snapped or cut trees in half and left a devastating wake that would take years for the forest to recover from. And that wasn't mentioning the scars of the fires that spread across the island. If not for the heavy storms that frequented the area, everything may have burned. But the forest still held some type of peace... for some of the pokemon. For one, it sat there in a small opening among the trees, staring at one of the many old, broken security cameras. A red light was still blinking, but it was only from a battery inside. It's wire that fed it to its system had long since been cut. By what was a good question, but that flashing light seemed to transfix this off looking creature. It had a heavy mask on its head, and its body looked... stitched and mixed. As if someone were to put unmatched puzzle pieces together. And its eyes stared out from the mask at that red blinking light, watching the camera. Until it heard something from behind. The creature turned its head just enough to see and- a human! The creature stood quickly, tense and ready to dart. Or take orders. It wasn't sure anymore. It had been so confused recently. One day it was taking orders. Doing tricks and using moves and doing what was needed. Then the next there was so much noise and the people were panicked and then... the outside. Gently nudged outside. And now they were here. Waiting for the humans to come back. Or not? It had been so long since anything else had happened. Memories all blurred and blended together. Were humans friends or foes? The pain wasn't nice. The experiments weren't nice. But... what else was there? What did they do? They stood there, watching the human and the cat. Maybe there was a hint here...? Something... to do... orders. They needed orders. Their last orders were to leave the lab. Before that it was to attack a target. But there was no lab to leave. And no target... other than the cat... Was that what they were supposed to do? Is that what the human would order? A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

Each step further into the woods seems to bring a new horror, a new discovery, another reason to grow more and more concerned and suspicious. The joy of a new Pokemon friend never fades, but it becomes for the moment, a thought at the back of Dev's mind. He is excited to get to know Ditto. To take care of the poor starving thing. But right now, he is going further and further into these twisted woods, and finding that there is a pit in his stomach starting to grow. While Devereux is glad to see the surviving trees and plantlife that was spared the fire, the light from his lantern shows a nother side to the story. Branches above his head are blackened - and when he tries to brush past a branch, instead of bending, it shatters and covers him in charcoal. Ahihaka seems interested on nibbling on parts of it. He notices this, and picks some up off of the trees where it will break, putting it in his bag. It'll.... definitely need a wash after. And he doesn't know if this charcoal is safe to consume - he'll have to study it more. But maybe charcoal is something that's good for a fire type Pokemon to grow? "Ahi, don't eat that until we know more. You don't know if that's safe."She makes a whiny noise, but acquiesces and returns to staying almost glued to Devereux's feet as they walk. He's starting to think the charcoal probably won't be edible grade. This fire, he thinks as he carefully steps on and over yet another fallen tree, does not feel natural. The tall man doubles down on these suspicions when out of the darkness, he bangs his leg against a chunk of twisted metal pipe. "Ow - what... what the-" Devereux has to do a double take, bending down with the lantern. Metal? Ahihaka sniffs it curiously, before bending back, looking displeased. She murrs up at her trainer, who frowns and shakes his head. "This isn't right... there was never any information or indication there was infrastructure this extensive up here - the invitation said it was at some point a tiny research facility that got shut down. What's going on here?"He cranks the lantern again, trying to cast some better light. What it reveals is more metal. Pieces of half-melted sheet metal. Rusting rivets and bolts hidden in the ground cover. Tiny bits and pieces of wires, and at one point, a chunk of radiator still holding onto a piece of sheet rock. The biggest surprise, however, was certainly in the clearing. The moonlight is enough that Devereux can lower his light for a bit, clipping it onto a belt loop. He looks around the opening, slowly scanning and taking in the surrounding carnage now that he can see it better - until a light catches his eye as he turns the gaze of his better eye that direction. A camera? Why was there a - what. What. The hell. Is that?Devereux has no words. He has never seen a Pokemon like this before. All those years in college, all the time spent studying, working, living breathing and eating Pokemon Ecology and history to get his PhD, and this creature surely stops him in his tracks. He freezes the same way that it does, shows the same tenseness in his shoulders and posture. A... new Pokemon? What... Ahi moves to stand a little in front of Devereux, but his eyes are intent on the creature, his frown slowly deepening. The longer he looks, the more is wrong. No part of the Pokemon seems to match - they are all parts of things he has never seen before, but certainly does not recognize. And the thing on its head - at first glance, it looks like it's a part of the Pokemon... but quickly, he realizes its a metal helmet wrapped around the poor beast's head like a gaol. Dev looks between the unknown chimera, and the camera on the ground, and the metal all around. A picture begins to paint itself in his head, a pieced together hypothesis of what is going on. It makes him ill, an angry chill slithering up his spine. He needs to get to the bottom of this - but first, an abandoned Pokemon, unknown or not, in a time of need. "Hey there... I'm not gonna hurt you. It's okay, you can relax. Are you alone out here?" Devereux knows the answer to this already, of course. He's pretty certain. But he asks anyway, keeping his voice low and steady and soft, relaxing his body posture and stance. He starts to approach, very slowly, stopping each time the creature tenses or looks ready to bolt. "How long have you been out here, all by yourself...?"Devereux thinks of his Ditto in his pocket, and inhales softly. The sweet little pink blob had acted as if it had never eaten before. And this poor creature, with that helmet... "Are you hungry? Are you hurt? You've been through a lot, haven't you? Sweet thing. Hold on, big guy. Hold on, I've got you..." The tall man pulls a small handful of treats this time out of his pocket. He's gotten warily much closer to the unknown creature now, and sits down on the ground nearby. Ahihaka sits next to him. He holds his hand out, flat, careful, food on it. "Here, you can take it. Eat, please. Have you been waiting here, all this time?"The trainer thinks for a few moments, waiting patiently, cautious but leaving his guard down. Eventually, he tilts his head a little at the beast. He pulls another Luxury Ball out of his pocket, holding it up in his other palm, and then setting it down in front of him, facing the creature. "...Hey, bud?" His voice is almost a whisper, soft and careful. "Nobody's... I don't think anybody is gonna come back. I'm sorry. And I don't think it's safe here for you. I..."He swallows. Moment of truth. "...I know. You don't have to. But please come with me? You don't have to wait here, anymore. Me and Ahi here, we can be your friends. And... at the very least, I can promise that I'll make sure you're fed, and warm, and that you have no hurts. You deserve that much, at least. It's your choice. So... please?" Night || Clear This was... confusing. There were no orders here... were there? The Type: Null sat back on its haunches and watched and Waited. It didn't know how to answer how long he had been out here. For a while... the weather had changed a lot. But the camera was still on, so someone was watching. Someone would come. The human offered some food. The Type: Null stared at it for a long time. It tilted its head. What... was this? Solid food? That was unusual. Usually its food came from the Tube. Because of the mask... The pokemon scratched at the mask. Not in a way as if it was trying to get it off, but instead in a way to try and indicate that this human did not have the tools necessary. Not here, not yet. But the pokemon was fine. It could go a long time without food. They had built them to do just that. To survive. To be the perfect pokemon... Was it doing good? Was it succeeding? Was this the test? But... no one was coming back? The pokemon looked back to the camera, then back to the human. Oh... That would have explained why things had been quiet since those Other People came around. They looked all over the place for the others and took them away. They were very still... The luxury ball was something New. It was... an Order? It had to be. If this person was here, then that meant this was an Order and it had to Follow Orders. And these orders sounded nice... not like the tricks and it had to perform day in and day out. But something new. Something... away from this place. The Type: Null approached carefully and slowly, reaching out one of its clawed hands to wrap around the ball. As it did, the device absorbed it in a flash of red light. The ball was still for a while, not even rolling. And then it clicked. This human seemed like a nice one... one that could help the Type: Null find a new purpose, new orders to follow. A new life, maybe. A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

"Oh, sweetheart..." Devereux's voice is immensely soft, almost inaudible. Ahihaka leans against his leg and trills softly at him. This poor, beautiful creature, this magnificent mismatch of parts, waiting for a person who would never come back for it. It wasn't able to eat. It breaks his heart. He stills, very careful, his breath too slowing until he holds it as the chimera approaches. Devereux is all too aware how dangerous this is. How big of a chance he's taking on this Pokemon not rending his defenseless body limb from limb. And then it enters the ball. Watching it, just as silent as it is still, Dev's hands find Ahihaka's fur, scratching behind her ears and stroking the downy fur of her head as he holds vigil. When the ball clicks, he exhales softly. Ahi gets up and circles around, nudging the ball towards him. He picks it up, gingerly. Delicately. "...Thank you for believing in me," he whispers. He presses a soft kiss to the top of the ball. "I'm going to find a way to get that helmet off of you. And when I do... you're gonna have the best first meal you've ever had with me. Okay? We'll find a way, little soldier."With the ball tucked with Ditto's into his pocket, Devereux performs once more the arduous task of standing up when he's been sitting on the cold wet dusty ground. Ahihaka waits patiently for him, and when he's up, she presses her face against his shin, purring loudly at him. When he bends to pet her again, she purrs, and her big golden eyes look up at him with worry. "I'm okay, my little princess. It's gonna be okay. We'll figure it out. I want to be able to help our new friend, but..." Devereux frowns, his eyes clouded with thought as he pets his partner. "...I've never seen anything like them. This is all new. I don't know if there is any information about them..." His frown sets into a determined expression. Devereux's brows lower, and with a long sigh, he straightens again. There is a determination to his features. "...But I know where we can find some. There's a lot wrong about this island, Ahi. The way we were invited, the state of the island, of the Pokemon... The police report said it was a smaller research center that went up in flames after a faulty old generator exploded. I don't know about you, but me?" Devereux gestures around them. To the still blinking camera on the ground. To the twisted pipe back the way they'd come - to the other shards of metal, glass, inorganic things, all around them. To the charred trees and shards of charcoal. "Could a little old generator do this much damage? And the Pokemon... the researchers all disappeared. Our big guy was clearly waiting for someone... or something," he eyes the camera again and frowns, "but what about our little amorphous friend? They were terrified of me. If the fire was an accident, why would it be scared of me? Of any human? That's not a normal response."Devereux clicks his tongue and gestures to Ahihaka. She falls in line with him as he looks around the area one last time, and then starts walking, further and further into the woods. "Something isn't right. About any of this. I want answers, and I want to find how to help our new friend. Come on, Ahi. It's about time to pay a little visit to that lab." OOC: Devereux moves on to the Destroyed Facility (sub-area 3) !!! Night || Clear As the human walked away with the cat, something small stepped out of the shadow of a tree. Not in the shade. No. The shadow. It made a little noise. Maybe the cat could hear but... the creature soon vanished again, back into the darkness that it had been watching the human from... they were very odd creatures, and more fascinating when they were the ones being studied... The 'little lab' was in fact massive, even as a destroyed husk of its former self. Several stories tall, clearly had a basement installed, and with no walls it really shows its true size. There were glimpses into what used to be offices or examination rooms, but there were no papers, no files... nothing. Most disturbing of all were large glass tubes that look as if they had been shattered from the outside, large computer-covered terminals also smashed and burned to a crisp. The place had been utterly destroyed. And the rooms lined with cages and glass cases... each one had been opened, locks cut or smashed. And throughout the place were dark stains on the floor, some looking like they were drag marks and others large splotches. Whatever the dark liquid was... it had been evaporated in the explosion and subsequent fire. The lab seemed abandoned and eerily quiet... save for a chuckling that was soon followed by a dazzling display of lights that targeted the Litten, wrapping around her head and creating stars in the sky. The gastly appeared a moment after the dazzling lights vanished, giving a chuckle at her successful Confuse Ray! Well, well! Look at what the cat dragged in! A human. It had been a while since she had seen one here. After all, the rest of them joined her part of life... the afterlife that is. A Wild Pokemon Appeared!

There is a moment, as the two are walking further into the woods, that Ahihaka pauses. She stops mid-step, ear flicking, and then she looks behind her. ...Nothing. Odd. She would've swore that she heard... "Ahi? You coming?"She stays still, eyes narrowing at the clearing a moment longer, and then eventually, turns forward once more, murring at her human as she catches up with his long legs. Maybe it was nothing. After all, this island is full of unusual sights, sounds... and noises, too. The sight of the lab causes Devereux to stop in his tracks. Ahi paces around his legs as his gaze roams over the building - its... huge. This is nothing of what those articles, rumors... anything, really, had said. "...Okay," Dev says slowly, as he starts walking into the burnt out husk of the building, "maybe this is a size for a proper research facility." But... most certainly not for any intended purpose that Devereux can think that the tech giant would be using it for... He searches for ages through the rooms. Offices, examination, even storage - looking for anything that might be any indication of information for the chimera stowed away within his pocket. But there's nothing. No papers. No files. No miscellaneous memos. Not even a scrap of a sticky note to label someone's lunch. Nothing. Just broken pieces of stone and decay, burnt scraps of unidentifiable things, twisted edges of metal... and the dark stains along the ground, all over the place. Some dangerous thoughts start to occur to Devereux, piecing together a potential story, potential theories, as he wanders. They start to coalesce when he finds That Room. It's just near the emergency exit stairs that potentially have access to the basement. There's something down there. He knows it. The elevator doesn't exist anymore - just a dangerous hole in the ground, but there's always an emergency exit, and without any power it would be the easiest thing to just nudge the lock and go through. He knows there has to be something down there... but with the state the building is in, its just too dangerous. Not with just Devereux and Ahihaka. If something happened... so instead he turns his attention to the next room. Stepping around the rubble of a partial wall, his breath catches in his throat. Those glass tubes... "...What the hell...?"If Devereux wanted any confirmation that things were not all kosher, not all right, and in fact incredibly suspicious, concerning, and very very wrong, this was it. The lack of any paperwork is frustrating, and Devereux makes a soft gruff noise in his throat as he crouches down to investigate one of the mangled terminals. "Huh. That looks like its been beaten in, not like it exploded. Now what would a medical company want with equipment like this, anyway...? This is far from any agricultural study. This doesn't even look like animal testing. This... it all looks... I don't know. I don't know what to think."The man stands up again and begins to pace the room. Along one wall are some of the busted cages and display cases. He stops, his eyes narrowing at the look of them. "...These locks weren't burnt off. If the explosion was an accident, we'd be seeing a lot more corpses, Ahi. These have been broken." She meows from somewhere behind him, where she herself is pacing the room. "But what about those stains? If those weren't Pokemon.. no. Look. Look at this glass on this tube -- see? The way the glass has fallen, the pattern. This didn't explode, it was broken -- Ahi, all of this, it isn't an accident, I think this is--"The horror rising in Devereux's voice reaches a crescendo when he hears the chuckling. All the hair on the back of his neck and forearms goes on end and he cuts himself off mid-sentence, whipping around in a panic -- only to stumble backwards into one of the tubes at a near flashbang of glittering, dazzling light. He feels a piece of ragged glass still clinging to the frame cut into his hand as he reaches out blindly to steady himself, and the biting pain gets him to hiss, almost in tune with Ahihaka. The Litten herself is hissing and spitting, whipping around back and forth. The lights had caught her off-guard, and the brightness burnt before she had a chance to close her eyes. She makes a furious yowling noise when the lights fade, shaking her head back and forth, trying to blink away the after-image imprinted on her vision, disoriented. A gastly. Were it not for his heartbeat roaring in his ears and the pain lancing through his right palm, Devereux might think to be grateful it isn't something much worse. As it is, however, neither Devereux nor Ahi are sure if this Pokemon is friend or foe - but it did attack. "Please don't hurt us - Ahi, defend yourself, hang in there!"Hissing, the Litten tries. She attempts to use her unsteadiness as a tactic, overplaying the struggle and the confusion until she's a bit closer... and then she tries to leap very suddenly at the Gastly in a surprise fake out attack! Night || Clear The gastly let out a laugh as the cat tried to attack him, the normal type move passing through her gaseous form. This was fun except... what the human said... hurt them? Oh... "You're supposed to hurt them! Lick! Now!"
But she refused. The dark type pokemon the researcher had always had a move to use against the Gastly, to punish her. But the pokemon she was supposed to target were weakened with medicine. Made complacent in the abuse. They couldn't fight back. It was wrong.
"How are we supposed to test the paralyzing properties of the move if you don't USE IT?"Her form shrunk as she floated away from the pair by a few feet, her smile fading. Oh... no. She didn't to hurt anyone she just wanted to play she just- the blood from the human--the glass-- was not easy to miss. Oh no, she had done it again... Gaaas... she vanished for a few minutes, maybe enough time for the Litten to snap out of the confusion and recover her site. Long enough for the human to get glass out of his hand. Long enough for the Gastly to return with a very scorched and mostly destroyed first aid kit. She dropped it from her mouth before floating backwards again, sinking towards the floor. Gastly...Now she felt bad... she was just so lonely. The pokemon in the facility were no fun and people didn't come around anymore. Not since the last one. They were nice, but they didn't stay for very long. Oh no... oh dear... Maybe, at least, they'd accept this olive branch. A Wild Pokemon Appeared!
