❂ Rebecca Cardinal day // clear // open "OK, Mom, I have to go! Galla's getting antsy!" Calling over her shoulder, Rebecca escapes her parents' farmhouse with her Torchic clutched tightly in her arms. Galla looks perfectly calm, if a little squeezed; it's quite obvious that Rebecca is the antsy one, not her Pokemon. She rushes down the path to the dirt road and then stops to take a breath, leaning against the fence with a sigh. Her parents are great. She loves them. But ever since Professor Yew's death, they've had doubts about her Pokemon trainer profession. It was an easy dream for them to support when it looked impossible; when Pokemon came back, they had a few concerns about the idea of Rebecca traipsing across Deprin in search of birds, but they could see how the idea brought her out of her shell. But the professor's death really brought home the dangers posed by Pokemon. The last couple times Rebecca has come home, it's been to big arguments with her parents, as they tiptoe around the idea that maybe she shouldn't be chasing after Pokemon at all. no one can stop me from spreading my wings

Katrina always enjoyed her visits to Summerhill. The place was like a second home to her, having spent a majority of her teenage years here. She strolled through the town square, glancing at the stalls full of home grown produce. Gee stayed in the background, swooping between the few and far between trash cans that lined the street in a constant search for edibles of any sort. Meh. Whatever made her happy.
Stopping to pulled out a small chunk of paper, Katrina scanned the list of household necessities written in her signature sloppy style. Did she have enough money for all of this? Most of this? Heck, even getting just enough food to last a few weeks would be good enough for her. And if not, well, she could just check in on her mom and see how she was doing. She always had a wad of spare cash to loan out.
After stuffing list back into her pocket she decided check out a vendor selling an assortment of squashes. With her attention faraway, Katrina didn't notice Gee dive in on a nearby Pokemon with it's beak agape. Didn't notice the Cramorant attempt to stuff a small, orangish-red chick Pokemon down her maw....

❂ Rebecca Cardinal "Hey! What the hell?" Rebecca didn't usually swear much, but having a Cramorant try to snatch Galla out of her arms was definitely worth a curse. Of course, Rebecca clung to Galla with all her strength, keeping her Torchic out of Cramorant's beak -- Galla cheeped frantically, trying to get Rebecca to put her down so that she could battle for herself rather than relying on her trainer to protect her. But Rebecca had no intention of letting go of Galla! Instead she kicked at Cramorant, trying to drive off the aggressive bird. As much as Rebecca loved birds, she really was not enjoying this encounter with one. no one can stop me from spreading my wings [googlefont=Lora][googlefont=Rye]

An otherwise pleasant time shopping around was broken by yells and a bunch of very familiar sounding squawks. Katrina whipped her head around, shoulders tensing as as she saw Gee attack a poor little pokemon. And now it was all up to her to clean up this mess. Katrina ran up to her Cramorant and immediately started to tug Gee away from the tussle.
Try as she liked Katrina just wasn't able to pull her crazy bird away. Switching her attention to digging around in her grocery tote, she pulled out a lightly scratched pokeball.
"Alright! 'Nough fun time for you," she announced as she pressed the return button, a bright light encapsulating Gee in a second.
The situation immediately cooling down, Katrina tucked the pokeball back into her bag. "Awful sorry about that," she apologized to the victims with an uneasy chuckle. "My Cramorant's just easily excited. But, hey! Doesn't look like anybody got hurt..." She held out her arms in front of her, looking for any bumps or bruises.

❂ Rebecca Cardinal Even after the Cramorant vanished, Rebecca remained in a tense defensive stance, clutching Galla tightly -- the little Torchic was having a bit of trouble breathing, actually, but she wasn't about to complain when Rebecca had just saved her from being swallowed. Even if she would have really preferred to fight the bigger bird herself. "You need to get better control of your Pokemon," Rebecca snapped. She didn't anger easily, but threatening Galla was the quickest way to get on her bad side. It had been the Cramorant, not its trainer, who'd done so, but she had no problem holding the trainer responsible for the actions of her Pokemon. "Your Cramorant should stay in its Pokeball until you've trained it not to attack smaller Pokemon."Adrenaline continued to rush through Rebecca's veins, her fight or flight response activated and leaning towards fight. Fun time? The other trainer clearly wasn't taking this seriously enough. no one can stop me from spreading my wings [googlefont=Lora][googlefont=Rye][googlefont=Courgette]

"Oh, she's trained well 'nough," Katrina shrugged nonchalantly, flicking off a blue down feather that was clinging to her shirt sleeve. Gee never tried to attack her, anyways.
With a soft smile on her face she leaned down until she was at eye lever with the red chick. it was clear, what with all the huffing and puffing, that the poor thing was being squeezed too tight. "A....Torch Chick, right?" Katrina had been offered one during her visit to the laboratory to pick out her first pokemon. The lab tech had been rather surprised when she chose Gee over either this fire type or a strange little mon with a large flower bud growing on top of it's back. Supposedly, once upon a time, those two pokemon had been very popular with newbie trainers.
"You can hold your own against a Cramorant, can't you? " she cooed, tapping the Torchic lightly on the beak. "Just imagine if Gee had swallowed you. You woulda roasted her from the inside out!"
Straightening out, Katrina let out a laugh and stuck her hands in her pockets. "Now that would've taught my silly bird a lesson."

❂ Rebecca Cardinal The nonchalance with which Katrina regarded the attempted swallowing just made Rebecca angrier and angrier. "Clearly she isn't trained well enough -- or, from what I could tell, at all -- if she's going around attacking other Pokemon and people!"Rebecca jerked Galla away from the other trainer, taking a furious step back. Arceus, personal space! "Sure, Galla's strong. But what if she wasn't? What are you going to do if that Pokemon of yours gets near a baby Pokemon -- or a human baby?"no one can stop me from spreading my wings [googlefont=Lora][googlefont=Rye][googlefont=Courgette]

The tension was getting to hot. She could see steam coming out of this young lady's ears (not literally, of course.) Katrina's first thought was to just walk away and leave the situation behind. Her second thought was to act like a fireman and try to put these flames out.
"I really am sorry for all this mess. You're so right about how much a danger my Cramorant is." Katrina placed a hand on her chest, over her heart, making sure her response sounded as sincere and apologetic as possible. Yeah, she was going for the second plan. She appreciated a good challenge. "I've only had her for a few weeks now. Still tryin' to get to know her."
And I got no idea what I'd do if she tried to swallow a baby. Hadn't really though about it." Katrina pondered for a moment, pulling on an earlobe as she looked off into the distance. "Probly just...run 'round in mass panic." Not entirely true. She once watched Gee cough up a Croagunk on the porch. If the dang bird could manage to do that, she could probably cough up a baby. So no need for mass panic. Just lots of yelling and encouragement.
Now was a good time to raise the water pressure. "My name's Katrina. What's yours?"
