The ordeal of Salve Island is very, very fresh in Cabrian's mind. He's managed to get his team to a Pokecenter and confound the team with Fleet. After a bit though, and with Cabrian staying by the Pokemon's side without cease, it had been neatly healed up. All of them had, and all had been fed, even with Fleet's unique situation on that front. A huge relief. He is glad, so glad that he could rescue some pokemon. He'd assumed he'd have battles, but...well, he just couldn't.
Once he knew his pokemon were healed and safe, he'd gone out onto the sprawling lawns of Mistveil Uni to let the four of them get to know each other properly, carefully, with room and the chance to hide if needed. He reached out to his Aunt, first,, giving her what details he had regarding the island, begging for her help in looking into it without drawing attention. A risk, she'd said, given where they were based. But she would try, and that would have to do. The next contact would've been unknown not so long ago. There on the island, though, Devereux's name had come to mind almost immediately. Who else but a doctor of pokemon ecology could be better suited to answering questions about pokemon Cabrian is clueless on, especially Fleet? Yes, Devereux would know. He hopes so.
Thankfully, they'd exchanged contact info, and so dialing the man up is quick. Cabrian flips on video and turns it to face him with his pokemon in the background. Admiral is gently booping his new friends, Fleet hesitantly sniffing everything, Ensign showing off, running the length of the grass, whinnying and flipping his mane, and Sonar blinking in and out, going from teammate to random object. Scanning, Cabrian thinks. He's smiling idly at them through the camera when the call is picked up.
"Ah, Devereux, hello. I hope this is a good time. I just returned from a trip to Salve Island, and I've come back with pokemon and a lot of questions about them. Would you perhaps be willing to share your expertise?"

"Ahi, stop egging Lapu on and -- what are you doing up there? Hey - hey! Get down, that's dangerous!"
Devereux sighs. It has been... quite the adventure, since coming back from Salve Island. He's had a lot to think about since returning, and things have been such a whirlwind that he hasn't had a chance to really process much of any of it. The island was... well. A mystery was a word for it. A horror show was apt but somehow still felt too... flippant. A conundrum was another.
But more importantly, and the thing that has really taken Dev's mind away from what he had discovered that night, was what he'd encountered instead. Namely: the three new Pokemon that he and Ahihaka could call their team. They were a trio of misfits, that was for certain. And as proud as Devereux is, as overjoyed that he is to have caught his first Pokemon, to have become a real trainer with a team - there are a lot of complications that came along with them.
The first, and biggest, was probably the massive chimera that was currently asleep on the other side of the room on top of the bed, somewhere behind him. Dev was lucky that they'd given the unknown Pokemon treatment at the Sylvanport Pokemon Center. That he had for once in his life actually been able to throw his weight forward as a doctor of Pokemon to gain access to the back rooms and had all discretion at hand with his expertise of Pokemon, the technology granted, and the privacy and secrecy of the nurses that worked with him. All of the Pokemon - all three of them - had needed attention. They were starving, afraid, and in the chimera's case.... well. That's a lot to unpack.
But he'd gotten them fed through an IV - not ideal, but it worked - and now here they are at a room in the local center, just resting, recuperating... and trying to figure things out. Currently, figuring things out meant Ahihaka distracting Devereux from writing down research notes by getting stuck on top of the dresser she'd climbed up on while trying to wrestle with their new ghostly friend. It's while he's still trying fruitlessly to get her to jump down, and for Lapuwale to please calm down because Ahi isn't really in any trouble, that his cell phone starts ringing.
He's tempted to ignore it - probably just another Salve telemarketing, or his brother - but the noise startles Katoa, who shrinks in on themself a little from where they had been relaxing as a flattened puddle of purple-ish goo on the desk, so he picks it up. He's glad he did a moment later when he sees the name on the screen, and before he can even think about it, he's answering the video-call.
The first thing Cabe sees is a very crooked, upward-pointed shot that details half of Dev's torso and the bottom of his chin, the ceiling of the room he's in as the backdrop. He's not looking at the camera. Rather, he's looking somewhere off to the side and shaking his head. "Ahi, I said get down -- oh. Oh, Cabrian! I'm sorry, I--" Dev glances to the side and notices the camera. Immediately there's a scramble to fix it, a blur of movement, and then the phone is set upright and stable with Dev's face and upper torso centered properly. He looks a bit flustered, and clears his throat, adjusting his hair, and then his glasses, and then the front of his sweater. "I didn't realize, I'm sorry. Ahi was just... anyway. Cabrian! Hello! It's a perfect time, that's not a worry at all." He tilts his head with a bright smile. A smile that crumples at the corner, just a little, a blip of something serious that fades in a moment when the words Salve Island are mentioned.
He listens for a moment, considers, and then nods. "...So you had an invite to the island too, then? Fortuitous - I've been back from a trip there not long ago myself. Of course - I would be more than happy to offer what expertise I can try to. How are you? What's going on?"

There is a lot going on on Devereux's end, and Cabrian cannot help but smile as he tuts at Ahihaka in the background. Good to know she's not changed - Admiral will be so pleased. And the whale pokemon does seem to take notice of his trainer's call - he knows Ahi's name well and is intrigued, clearly. Admiral croons at Cabe, a question. He thinks it is, anyway. He and Admiral are still learning their communication properly.
"Before I do ask, please relay to Ahi that Admiral says hello. He's entertaining his new team but he's giving me a proper croon." He pauses to look back at Admiral and nod with a smile. Usually he thinks the whale would come up to say hello himself, but he does seem to be taking the need to welcome new friends very seriously! He is a delight that Cabrian is so, so grateful for. Focus, though.
"I came back with three new pokemon. None...were in a very good state. I got them to a pokemon center right away, and treated, but I know it will take some time to overcome trauma...but one of them..." Cabrian maneuvers the phone, holding it out further to get the pokemon better in the frame. "Fleet, there, in the back over my left shoulder. I don't really know what they are. Granted, I didn't know much of what any of them were, but I got enough research from the university here to figure out that Ensign over....there. Is a Ponyta. But Fleet...no one seems to know. None of the doctors, no records I can find. I hoped maybe you might know something? They're...they can't even eat normally. I want to help them, be a good trainer to them. I'd really appreciate any information you might have, or suggestions?"
Cabrian pauses, glancing in the camera at Fleet who is now sniffing at a statue, and smiles gently. "It was a bit of a rough trip. But I am glad Admiral and I could make new friends and bring them to safety. There's something wrong on that island, Devereux. I'm glad you returned safely. How did it go for you?"

"Ah, that is Admiral's lovely song that I hear!" Devereux smiles brightly. "I've quite missed it - I know it hasn't been long, but... goodness. A lot sure has happened, hasn't it?" Understatement of the century, really. And one that Ahihaka seems to agree with -- based on how she very suddenly appears in Devereux's lap, her red nose taking up the entirety of the camera, mewling loudly as if searching for her precious friend. Devereux's startled laughter can be heard, and then Ahihaka is moved back gently, revealing the sight of the kitten perched in Dev's lap, staring intensely, contrasted by the amusement dancing in her trainer's eyes, and the curiosity of a new Pokemon that has joined to hover over Devereux's shoulder, mouth pursed in an expression of wonderment.
"Now you decide to hop down, hm? I see who your favorite is - Ahi, sweetie, c'mere, now -- no, c'mere. Settle, sweetheart. Settle. There we go. Cabrian and Admiral aren't actually trapped in there, yeah? But we can talk to them, if you stay in my lap." She makes a confused trilling noise, but behaves, and Devereux shakes his head, sighing fondly. He scritches her head gently, and then raises his hand for the ghostly orb at his side to nudge against with a soft croon. "Yeah, see? This is my friend, Cabrian. Cabrian -- this is Lapuwale, a ghost-type Gastly. She..." He sighs again, softly, the sound much more resigned. "I can't say that the Pokemon that I caught were in very good shape, either. She's the best of the three."
It is... concerning and worrying, Devereux thinks, a stone settling in his chest, that the trend of the mental states of the Pokemon that he ran into on the island has continued with Cabrian's team, too. Beautiful creatures, Pokemon are - and to know that so many of them from this one location hold so much trauma and pain...
...And especially that one. As Cabrian moves his phone, Devereux's eyes narrow to get a better view, curious at what he is going to be shown -- and then his eyes blow wide with a sharp, audible inhale, as he freezes. Dimly, he registers the words that Cabe says, the way that Ahi starts making biscuits against his leg as she meows. But his eyes are pin-point focused on the image of Fleet somewhere behind his friend, thoughts churning and building in conjunction with the massive beast half-slumbering behind him. "...There's more than one," is Devereux's breathless, soft reply.
He's silent for a long few moments more, as he processes Cabrian's words very slowly. Cabe's questions are left unanswered for a few moments more, and it is clear that there is some deep thought going on behind Devereux's eyes. Eventually, though, he clears his throat sharply and adjusts his hair behind an ear, refocusing and coming back to the world. "...Well," he starts, and sounds... surprisingly unsure.
"I wish I could say that I was an encyclopedia of knowledge about Fleet, I do. But... I'm glad you contacted me about them. Because..." Devereux shifts backwards in his chair and rotates it to the side, exposing much more of the room behind him. Lapuwale floats upwards to stay over Dev's head - but the key point in frame is a third, previously unseen Pokemon. It's large, bulky frame is one that is all-too familiar to Cabe, the dull grey feathering and fur morphing into hard green claws, a wide fin-tail, and a brassy behelmeted face the splitting image of the very Pokemon he is asking about.
Devereux has come into possession of a chimera, himself.
"This is Pu'uwai," he says gently. There is a soft noise, and the great beast raises its head and looks over until Dev gently shakes his own head at it. Then, it simply lays his head back down, shifting into another, perhaps more comfortable position. "I... don't know what he is. I found him out in the woods, near that burnt-down facility. He clearly came from there - he was just... sitting. Staring at what was left of a security camera. I couldn't just leave him there... and I'm glad that I didn't."
The frown on Devereux's face is severe - gone is the casual easy friendliness he's shown since the two trainers have known each other, even in passing. He looks... tired. Haggard. Worried. "Those helmets are welded shut. They can't eat, you're right. I had to have him put on an IV at the center up here in Sylvanport. I've been trying to figure out how to get a mouthpiece open, but -- Cabrian, I don't think that facility was above board. I don't know what's going on, and I know that's some pretty big accusations to make, but... among the things I saw there, I think they're making Pokemon. Or at the least, experimenting on them."
Dev stops, takes a deep breath, and recenters himself. It takes a moment, but when he opens his eyes this time, he just looks worried. "Sorry, I... it's been a lot. I don't have a lot on these two Pokemon; just the general idea that they're exceedingly rare, and some personal theories. But I would be happy to offer you what observations I've made on Pu'uwai so we can compare and figure some things out, at the very least... and I'd like to hear about the rest of your new team, too. A ponyta, you said? Is that him over there in the back?"

Cabe stares dumbly for a moment at Pu'uwai before shaking his head. "I never thought there'd be two. Devereux we have to help them somehow..." It's heartbreaking, both of them looking as down and exhausted as they do, he cannot imagine the suffering. "Perhaps, though, they might benefit from seeing each other? I'm not sure. I don't know, maybe they were in the same place in the facility?"
Cabe can hardly feel sure of anything with Fleet, other than his commitment to help the sweet pokemon who needs him. Talking to Devereux about it is comforting, especially knowing he is not alone in this task. They'll find something out, surely. In the meanwhile, there are still others to attend to as well, Devereux is right.
"Yes, Ensign there is an absolutely beautiful Ponyta. He was so scared, but Admiral was able to help me put him at ease. He's been so much more relaxed since we left the island, but of course there's still a long way to go after all he likely went through." The sweet little Ponyta looks nervous about the strange voice coming from the odd rectangle, but when Cabe reaches out to touch him, Ensign steps forward, leans into his hand and settles.
Cabe smiles gently at Ensign, then turns his attention over his other shoulder. "That is Sonar. I...don't know what he is, my knowledge is not as extensive as yours and I hoped you might know. He says 'Pori' a lot, but I'm not sure if that's what he is? A Pori? And -- wait, what is that? The little purple friend there?"
