The lab's atmosphere was... depressed, to say the least. The news of Professor Yew's death and the injuries from the battle at their own battleground still held fresh wounds upon the lab workers. But they were trying to keep their heads high and continue their work. It hadn't been that long since pokemon came back, just four years. It was a slow progress, of course. People wanting to get their starters as they slowly got used to the idea and knowing where to get one. That meant work. And it meant being ready for anything. Such as appointments to get pokemon! The lab tech had walked out of the back room with purpose, intent on showing those in line a proper time with getting their first starter pokemon. A similar experience like they had with their houndour that walked at their side chewing on a squeaky toy. The tech looked at their clipboard and there was... one name. Huh. "Um.... Cyrus Lancaster?" he called. The name sounded familiar... no, there was no way. There were hundreds of Lancasters most likely. Yeah! Had to be! Haha! Starter Pokemon Appeared!

"Ah, yep, that's me," Cyrus says, looking up from where he'd been reading over an article on his phone. Something about rotom once being used to make machinery much more powerful and efficient, and the possibility of doing so again. He pockets the phone before heading over to the tech and holding out his hand for a shake. "I uh... I was supposed to be an intern here before... Yeah," he says, nerves clear on his face and in his voice, "not that I couldn't still... I mean it's one thing to study about pokemon in a lab, it's another to be out there and... I'm shutting up now."

Day || Clear The tech smiled and nodded. They understood. "Yeah, hard to believe that some grandparents had pokemon when they were kids then... poof! I remember stories from my grandpap, talking about how his parents used to be trainers and all.... 80 years is a long time without pokemon, though, but they're back!" For now... they thought sadly. No one knew why the pokemon just upped and vanished... but that was then and this was now! He smiled down at his houndour who squeaked his toy bone in excitement, drooling all over the place. "Well! Let's get you started, follow me!" He went towards the back and towards a large machine stocked to the brim with pokeballs. He hit a few buttons and a random assortment of six pokeballs were deposited into a case. He picked it up and glanced at each pokeball and nodded. He backed up, giving the beasts plenty of room as he tossed out the first one. "This is grookey! A playful sort whose rhythmic drumming can help plants sprout! This one is a sweetie." The monkey jumped up and gave an excited wave. A new face! How nice! Friends! Yes! The tech tossed out the second pokeball. "Ah, an impidimp! This pokemon feeds off of negative emotions. They like to cause problems so they can eat. Little devils, but good companions." The little devil-looking pokemon gave an evil chuckle as it darted over and stole the grookey's stick. The two began to wrestle over it. "Hey now! Uh..."The tech grabbed another pokeball and tossed it out. "Break that up, please!" He shouted as a blue rolling ball appeared as the phanpy bowled right into the two pokemon, using its truck to take the stick from the impidimp and return it to the grookey. "This is phanpy! A plain dwelling pokemon! Their evolutions are pretty damn tough."A sigh of relief as the fourth pokeball is tossed out. "Ah, a poochyena! These little pups usually hunt in packs. This one is a loner, but very sweet. They love belly rubs and attention." The dog looked at the human curiously, the bushy tail giving a tiny wag before stilling. Nope! Had to make em work for it. "This second to last one is chikorita! A grass type like grookey. But unlike grookey, this one can't climb trees." The grass type threw her head back with her leaf, putting her nose up at the humans. Ugh... commoners. She had memories of her old life, sitting on silken pillows with her previous trainer that she already knew had long since died given humans didn't tend to live very long. "Her former owner was an opera singer... they died shortly after the Rapture.""And finally!" They tossed out the last one as the white pokemon flopped on the ground and rolled over, closing their eyes as they stuck a tongue out. "Is called seel! A water type that prefers to live in cold waters. They are very cute! I love them." The seel, as if trying to show the world it was adorable, slapped its fins on its belly and gave out a little squeaky bark. "Aww..."The tech let out a breath and looked to Cyrus. "Take your time picking! This can be a big choice. If you need the night, you can come back tomorrow. I'll put them on reserve for her. And uh... no re-rolls, sorry! Procedure, ya know?"

"I don't think I'll need the night," Cyrus says, taking out his phone and pulling up the pokedex app he'd recently downloaded as he looks over the six before him.
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn down the chikorita," he says, "I mean, don't get me wrong, I hope she gets a new trainer, but she doesn't seem to be much of a battler, and that's pretty much what I need if I'm going to be doing research out in the field." He looks over his options again, "and I hate to say it, but I don't think seel will work, either. Don't get me wrong little guy, you're adorable, but I'm going to be doing a lot on land and..." He sighs, putting his phone back in his pocket, "man, I say that, but I live here in mistveil and we're not lacking for water or swimming holes. But at the same time... I do plan on spending my downtime at the estate when I'm home and not in the field, and travel by pokemon is supposed to be quick... Maybe I won't turn down the chikorita, after all. Grass types like gardens, right? yeah, I think I will go for the chikorita, after all. I hope these other guys get good trainers, too, don't get me wrong, but I know my father is gonna adore her and spoil her like crazy when I'm between trips, and I have a nice courtyard garden that gets a lot of sun. Sorry, rambling. I do that, a lot."
OOC due to Cy's rambling, going with chikorita

Day || Clear This was always the best part. People taking their time to pick a starter, their first pokemon partner on a long journey. Some people came by to get them as a sort of pet or companion for their daily lives, others to become trainers, and others still to try and make their way into the lab or something even beyond what most people hope. It was the whole reason he loved his job and why he never mind waiting. This was a big decision!
"Well, the great thing about pokemon is that they are all amazing battlers. Even a little chikorita can become a real powerhouse if raised with love and care!" The tech began to prep the care package the lab always handed out with a starter after recalling the unchosen pokemon. A journal, some standard pokemon food, the pokeball of course, a few empty pokeballs, and fresh potions.
"Treat her well and she'll take care of you in return! I'm sure of it!" The tech handed her pokeball and the care package over. "She's yours now! If you need anything else I'll be around, but otherwise, have a good and safe time out there!"

"I mean, I know all this about them, in theory," he says as he takes the pokeball and care package, "but it's one thing to know it all in theory, and another to see it in practice. My degree is in pokemon studies, and my particular interests were natural variation in the species and league battle practices. Like I said, in theory, I know that this little one can become quite the powerhouse. You said her owner before the rapture was an opera singer. I worry that she might not readily adjust to the life of a trainer's pokemon." He sighs, turning his attention to the little pokemon. His pokemon.
"Well Azalea, you ready to head home?" He asks, only to earn an affronted look from the chikorita. What sort of a name was Azalea. And what sort of place did this scruffy looking boy consider home?
"Well, it might take her a bit to warm up to me, let alone the idea of travel and battling," Cyrus says, laughing nervously as he recalls the chikorita, "and uh, sorry for the rambling. I'm going to take her home now."
OOC: Finished!
