The melancholy that over the lab was thick, but it was fading ever so slowly. The news of Professor Yew had traveled through the entire region, and new trainers knew they would not be getting their pokemon from a professor. It was against tradition but... well... it was what it was. Thankfully, the tech that was working today was a professional. She stepped out with the sound of heavy, mud-covered boots hitting the floor. She looked at the clipboard filled with names. As she did, a calm looking chespin patted some fire off of her lab coat. Pokemon could be dangerous business, but nothing they couldn't handle as a team. The tech adjusted her glasses and looked up at the waiting room. "Auri Nighte?" She asked, scanning the crowd. There were quite a few people to get to, but she had patience. This was a big moment in every single person's life that was here after all. She had witnessed tears from the elderly as the lab confirmed their former pokemon partners were still in their pokeballs, friends reunited after 80 long years. Young children ready to start on their adventures, and then the young adults that were robbed of their childhood right of being pokemon trainers finally getting their change. It was a beautiful time. But still, she did have a schedule to keep. A Starter Pokemon Appeared!
To be shown soon Who will you choose?

Auri had been waiting for this day ever since she had decided she was going to become a Pokémon trainer, and of course she could barely wait for the big reveal of what kind of pokémon she would get. She hopped from one foot to the other as she was forced to wait in the waiting room of the lab until someone would get to her. It luckily didn't take too long before she heard one of the people who worked here call out her name. "That's me!" She exclaimed, raising her hand into the air. She had barely slept last night because she was simply too hyped for today, and while her current behavior didn't reveal much of the lack of sleep, the bags under her eyes definitely did.
Auri stepped forward to the lab tech, taking a good look at her while waiting for any instructions of sorts. She really didn't know how this "starter Pokémon" thing was supposed to go, so it seemed like the best thing to just wait and see.

Day || Clear The tech nodded, noting how tired the trainer to be seemed, but she decided to not comment. She turned on her heels and walked into the lab, going up to a large machine filled to the brim with pokeballs. She clicked a few buttons and six random pokeballs were deposited into a box. She glanced at them and nodded, going to the counter and setting the box down. She grabbed the first pokeball and tossed it out. "This is a pancham, a pokemon that will eventually evolve into a large, powerful pokemon. Pancham can be a bit rough, but their final evolution is known to be very gentle. Don't try to take that leaf from its mouth, least you wish to get hurt." The panda pokemon gave a chuckle and held the leaf out like a toothpick it was showing off before putting it back in its mouth with a sharp-toothed smirk. The tech released the next pokemon. The bird soared through the lab's high ceiling, expertly twisting in the air using their dual-tails. "Taillow is a seabird pokemon, fit for coast lines and the winds that come with it. Native to Hoenn, it fit in with the constant changes in the breeze.""Ah, magikarp," she says as she tossed out the next pokeball, the fish flopped around on the floor, gasping for air. It was fine... she picked up the fish and dropped them in an aquarium. "The weakest pokemon in history, but its evolution is one of the most powerful pokemon on record. In fact, gyarados has been recorded in history for destroying cities. Funny how it comes from magikarp... but magikarp are very hardy and can survive in any conditions, even mud-filled puddles."Another one was tossed out. The mankey rushed through the lab the moment they were releases, shrieking in anger. The tech glanced to her chespin. "Substitute, please." The chespin nodded and rushed the mankey, spinning and creating a chespin-like doll out of leaves and twigs the mankey began to attack and throw around. The chespin returned to his trainer and got a pat on the head. "Mankey is an interesting pokemon. Almost always angry. The smallest thing can set them off."The mareep gave a happy baah as it was released, shaking its thick electrified wool as it was released. "This is a mareep, an electric sheep pokemon. Their final evolution has been used to power lighthouses since the ancient times. Very sweet things, really.""This is rockruff, a very hardy pokemon that has three different evolutionary forms. Midday, Midnight, and Dusk. The time of day you evolve them will determine the form it takes." The puppy gave a happy bark, their tail wagging once the red light faded. Freedom! The assistant nodded and leaned against the counter. "Take your time, but if you need an extra day, we can set these six aside for you until you make a decision. Choosing a starter is a big decision." Her chespin nodded. It was a big decision! Pokemon and human, together as partners bounded through a single choice. Who will you choose?

Auri tried her best to listen to the woman's explanation for each pokémon but as soon as the orange-red pokémon called magikarp got introduced, her eyes were focused on the flopping thing. Her eyes went wide and her smile got bigger than it was before, turning into a grin from ear to ear. "Oh I already know which one I want," she said after the lab tech told her she could also come back later to make a decision, "I'd love to take that one as my starter, magikarp I believe?" She pointed at the somewhat derpy-looking creature.
Her knowledge of pokémon was very limited, even after everything she'd learned from her grandfather, but it almost was like she'd forgotten everything she knew about them today thanks to her hype for this exact moment. Of course the other pokémon looked fun as well, but this magikarp just looked like such a funky little creature that she just wanted to take it with her. She had been so hypnotized by the pokémon's flopping movement that she hadn't exactly heard the lab tech say that this pokémon was essentially world's weakest pokémon.

Day || Clear Perhaps a less professional tech would be gaping in disbelief and trying desperately to tell this brand new trainer that magikarp was not a good choice and was so weak all it could do was splash around and waiting for it to level-up enough to evolve took way too long. But she was a professional. So she left it on the inside. "Very well," she said, recalling the other pokemon. She put them back in the machine and then recalled the magikarp and began to prepare a care package. "You must be aware that Magikarp only knows one more for a while. It's called Splash and it does nothing useful. Training this pokemon will be tough, but rewarding in its own right. Magikarp can survive out of water due to the pokeball it is kept in emitting a field around them to keep them alive." She handed the care package over. "Potions, food, some empty pokeballs, and you can download the pokedex app from the app store or sue the machine outside to do so."She took in a breath and looked at her clipboard. "Now. If there is nothing else, I must get the next trainer. Questions can be emailed. The address is in the pokedex app. Thank you."She gave a polite, but firm nod as she turned to the machine and pressed some buttons, resetting it to drop out another random 6 pokemon for the next person.
