SPRING FEVER Time of Day: Dawn || Weather: Clear |
"...Are you sure you're comfortable in there, Doppler?"
The weight inside Aloe's backpack shifted, before a small, affirmitive pulse of green light answered his question. The little Elgyem that had nestled himself inside his human companion's luggage turned and nestled further into the cloths Aloe had laid out inside his backpack for comfort, fiddling away at the small puzzle cube Aloe had given him.
"If you say so. The doctor wasn't that bad though, right?" A quiet, droning buzz from his bag was followed by flickers of yellow and red. He wasn't sure exactly what the Pokemon was saying, but he could assume it was some form of rebuttal.
Aloe had only finally managed to coax the timid Elgyem back into his Poke Ball the night before. Up until then, Doppler had been wild for a few months after he'd initially found his Poke Ball in the mud and released him, and Aloe had been worried sick about the tiny little thing since. The first thing on the agenda was to get him looked at and make sure he was healthy. The local doctor in the town square was as kind and gentle as they could be with the shy Elgyem, but being touched and needing to be examined by a stranger clearly wasn't a fun time for Doppler. He'd refused to return to his ball since being released again in the morning, and the thought of returning Doppler again didn't sit right with Aloe either- the Elgyem had been trapped in it for eighty whole years, after all.
"W-well, I promise you won't have to see any more doctors for awhile, so that's good! I'm just glad you're okay. We can go around town and see some of the better things around here instead, yeah?" Doppler shuffled inside the bag, his beady green eyes peeking out of the top. The Pokemon tilted his head curiously as Aloe pulled out his notebook, flipping it open to a hand-drawn map. "See, we're right by the eastern corner here- it's a bit of a walk, but just north of here there's this really nice cafe that Mom and I always visit. Will you forgive me for taking you to the doctor if we check that out? They have the best smoothies- I think you'll like them!" Aloe glanced back to the Pokemon propped halfway on his shoulder. After a long, thoughtful silence from the Elgyem, his palms flashed green again. "Phew. Thanks, bud."
Aloe clamped his notebook closed, sliding it back under his arm. Doppler slunk back into the depths of his bag while his human friend dusted himself off before starting on his route. Summerhill was a quiet town, though he was sure to plan his trip to the town square at the early morning to avoid as much traffic as possible, as to not overstimulate his new friend. They only had a few days left before it was time to head out into the world. As eager as Aloe was to finally leave, he already felt like he was starting to miss his home...
While the human reminisced, gazing out into the open fields as he walked along the trodden gravel road winding around the outskirts of the town square, Doppler froze up, glowing green eyes gazing out of his makeshift den. He thought he'd heard something- or someone. The Elgyem cautiously peeped out of hiding, trying to ascertain their surroundings...
