The little bear's eyes sparkled that that idea and it tapped the ball, zapping inside as it clicked. Jess smiled and stood up, Takara going to catch the egg case before it fell, giving a sigh.
"I got it!" Jess cheered. Fearghas barked happily, filled with joy as he ran in a circle with his tail wagging excitedly. Takara smiled and stood up, giving the egg case back to Jess before he froze up while she was excitedly talking about how brave she was.
His eyes were focused on something in the mountains that had just used Blizzard to create a torrential wall of snow come at them.
"Yeah, yeah, that's great, we gotta go-" she said, grabbing her shoulder. She was about to protest, but looked at where he was looking. The Beartic was charging at them in rage.
"WE GOTTA GO!"They started to run, Jess scooping up her Lillipup as they darted down the mountain as fast as they could, the cold air behind them right at their backs.
"Why is it so angry!?""It thinks you kinda kidnapped its kid! Though I'm sure it doesn't understand capturing isn't kidnapping as much as it is a partnership, but we can't really explain that to it right now!"The look of fear on her face was unmistakable as she ran as fast as she could, but she skidded to a stop as Takara gave a cry of pain, his leg seizing up. Jess looked at the approaching Beartic and back at Takara.
"You need to go!" He shouted, taking a pokeball out of his bracelet holder.
"I got this-""I-" Jess started, feeling her heart pounding in her chest. Yes, she wanted to run but-
"I'm not leaving you here!"He smiled at her.
"Aw, that's sweet." He tossed the luxury ball out and Shri appeared, eyes closed. The Lucario took in a breath and suddenly her eyes shot open, red irises filled with rage as she moved, charging an Aura Sphere in between her paws before she let it loose as the Beartic jumped, claws glowing in a Slash that never made purchase. The Sphere hit it square in the chest, sending it rocketing backwards into its own Blizzard.
"Shri! Please explain we didn't kidnap its kid! It willingly joined Jessica!" Takara called over the wind.
"We'll meet you down the mountain, please be careful!"The Lucario nodded and walked calmly into the icy wind. They quickly fled, making it back down to the route's branch point and Takara sat down as soon as he could, clenching his teeth. Jess put a hand on his back.
"Are... you okay?""Yeah... I'm fine," he said through gritted teeth.
"Just need a moment..."
"I'm so sorry, Tara. I didn't realize that was a dangerous thing to do. If I know then-""Don't worry, Jess." He smiled at her, slowly and carefully stretching out his leg.
"You did very good. You were very brave! Shri will make sure that Beartic understands the situation.""What if she can't?"Takara did not answer that question, knowing that Shri's anger at Takara having been threatened would lead her to bash that pokemon's skull in. This was a fact Jessica did not need to know.
"It'll be fine... I mean- oh! Look!"Shri was walking down the mountain, a Beartic with a comically sized lump on its head following behind. Jess froze up, but Fearghas worked out of her arms and ran up to the two pokemon with happy barks. He sniffed at the Beartic and allowed it to slowly lift him up in its paws. He barked a few more times and the bear let him down.
Jess, shaking, slowly walked over holding the pokeball that contained its child. She held it out and then released the little Cubchoo. The two had a conversation before the bear gave the little cub a tight hug before going back towards the mountain. Jess returned the Cubchoo to the ball and gave Shri a polite head bow before looking to Takara.
"Is my bear going to become like that thing?" she asked, looking very scared.
"One of these days, if you train 'em enough," he said, accepting Shri's help to stand.
"Now let's get the hell out of here. My leg hurts."Jess nodded and they started back towards town, assured the path ahead would be more peaceful. She adjusted the egg case, taking another look at it... she wondered when it would hatch.
