It was roughly noon at the bistro Cocoa and Vanillish, and the regulars were starting to come pouring in like errant tumbleweeds looking for their midday sandwich snacks and sneaky sugary treats. Farrah - the trainer who'd volunteered their time for the joint's Battle Cafe Event, and who trainers were facing off against in exchange for a good meal and a possible prize - was just coming off of her own lunch break.
She'd been sitting back in the shade for a few minutes, lounging on one of the outside chairs on the bistro's terrace, watching a couple of the waitstaff cleared the area and swept the flagstones. The last couple battles had been a bit... messy - and Farrah had offered to help reset the makeshift battlefield, but had simply been shooed off and told to take a few minutes to catch her breath and recharge. "Thanks, you two - I really appreciate this!" Farrah called over, raising her water-bottle as if in toast.
The two waitstaff waved the musician off with relatively friendly expressions. While one went back inside to return to work, the other came over and plopped in the chair next to Farrah for a moment. "Just doin' our job, y'know?" they replied. "I know we weren't sure if folks were gonna come, with your kind being new and all, and this being a test run... but people seem to be really enjoying it. It's nice to see customers in a good mood."
Farrah hummed in response, and stretched her arms above her head until her back popped. She sighed, relaxing again before shifting forward in her chair, about to stand. "Yeah, of course. Thank y'all for bein' so willin' too. Trainers may be new again, but the excitement about Pokemon sure isn't. If the rest of the day goes over well, I'd like to see this happen more often, maybe."
The staff member nodded. "Sure, sure. You ready to get back up there, then?"
"Yeeeeep, I think I'll go ahead. Feel free to stick around if you're on break right now. Take it easy for a minute. Afterall... the best is still yet to come." The staff saluted to her, and with a grin Farrah walked back to her spot on the terrace's makeshift battlefield. It was in good view of the entire bistro, so the possible challengers knew exactly where to go. Feeling much more refreshed, Farrah retrieved a pokeball from her belt, tossing it up and down and smiling in anticipation. Alright! Whenever the next challenger came by, she was absolutely ready to go!

What a day, what a day! The lad entered the café shyly, glancing around the room as he entered through the front door. His Swablu companion, Accumulus, was perched a bit obnoxiously on his shoulder. The bird's fluffy wings tickled Vincent's nose, sometimes causing the new trainer to sneeze, but he was slowly growing more accustomed to it. "Is this the right place?" He wondered out loud, glancing at the paper in his hands. He had entered the battle competition only at the urging of his boisterous companion, as the trainer himself was still getting used to the concept of his friend getting hurt, but Accu seemed to not have a care in the world about whatever harm could come his way. With a chirp, the Swablu suddenly took to the air and sped through the café and out a door that led to the outside. "Accu!!" Vincent hissed, ashamed his own Pokemon would not listen to him. Vincent rushed after Accu, following the Swablu outside where he hovered beside a trainer tossing a pokeball up and down. Vincent gave the Swablu a firm glare which he returned with a mischievous smirk. "H- hi, are you Farrah Whitaker?" Vincent had to pull up his flyer to read the name, making sure he had it correct, before looking back to the trainer.

"Oh, hello there!" Farrah paused tossing the Pokeball for a moment as the Swablu approached at high speed. She raised her eyebrows as the little bird stopped before them, simply hovering. Too calm and tame to be a wild Pokemon. Aside from that look of mischief, anyway... That meant it belonged to a trainer. Which meant...
Sure enough, the musician looked up to see a trainer come bustling through and outside to the terrace as well. Judging by the question, and the flyer in his hand, this must indeed have been another opponent. "Farrah would be me, yes," she said with a slow smile. "And you must be my new opponent, and this your teammate."
She caught the Pokeball one last time, before offering a respectful short little bow. "I am quite eager to see how you and your Pokemon work together. But ah... before we begin and I reveal my own hand; I would enjoy knowing my opponent's name as well...?"

"Oh, hello there!" Fortunately the other trainer appeared quite relaxed and not at all angry that Accu barged in rudely. "Farrah would be me, yes! And you must be my new opponent, and this your teammate." Vincent gave a nod, putting the piece of paper down as he relaxed enough to smile. "I am quite eager to see how you and your Pokemon work together. But ah... before we begin and I reveal my own hand; I would enjoy knowing my opponent's name as well...?" She left the question hanging in the air with her tone, leaving Vincent to mentally kick himself. "Oh-- uh, yes! This little guy is Accumulus, and my name is Vincent, but you can just call us Accu and Tux." He held one hand out, the one holding the flyer, and the Swablu quickly perched gently upon his fingers. Vincent responded by scratching the little guy's chin. "I admit this will be our first official battle thing, so I am a bit nervous. Though this fella probably isn't," he chuckled, earning an affirmative chirp from Accu.

"A pleasure to meet you both, Accu and Tux," Farrah nodded with an easy smile. It was nice to see such an easy bond between trainer and Pokemon, especially when the two had only recently met, seeing as it was a first battle situation. It reminded her a bit of a friend - a sweet fellow and their wily Aron.
She observed the duo quietly for a moment before shifting the hand holding the Pokeball back to her belt. Her hand hesitated for a moment, drifting back and forth over the polished surfaces, before finally settling on the Ultraball. Yes... that'd do. For a first battle, this Pokemon was feisty - but he was also a lot of fun and full of playfulness. None of the hard-grit determined nature of her other two. Wouldn't be dangerous. "No need to be nervous," Farrah said. She offered a comforting smile. "It seems scary at first, sure. I was the same way. But I find that our Pokemon's excitement tends to give way to our own."
Releasing the capture on the Ultraball and taking a step back, Farrah sent out the Pokemon to stand between them. The doglike creature's black and orange fur was wreathed by bone ornamentations, and there was a mischievous look in his eyes. "Dour!" He woofed, stubby tail wiggling. "This is Elegy, a Houndour," Farrah introduced him. "He will be who Accu faces. Let us know when you're ready and we'll hop right in! It'll be a fun time, no worries."
