The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me
It was a wonderful evening, nice and cool with autumn already here. Even better with good company. Since Arris was in town, Mya decided to show him her old stomping grounds in the mountains and the old trails. Now that they had pokemon, it was safer to wander up here, but... she was worried.Mya had a firm look on her face as she watched Eon walk ahead of her, acting as the personal body guard for the trip. His scales were really flaking off now and he almost had no more blue left on him. Just that grey that were hard scales for sure, but they were starting to bulge out. She was worried he was in pain but he seemed fine just... acting weird. His gait had went from gentle steps to more powerful stomps as he walked, and he had been showing more aggression towards strangers on the way out here. He seemed perfectly fine with Arris and his team, however. And even then, Eon never got a tone with Mya. He knew who the top dog was between them, but still. He had changed a lot since she first met him. Before, he could hardly hold himself upright with the size of that helmet on his head and his playful munches never really caused pain till recently. Mya took a glance at her arm. He had given her a playful bite but it broke the skin. She had patched it up but.... she shook her head and sighed. "Anyway, it's a really nice day. Thanks for coming hiking with me," she said. The company was very welcomed.

"Yeah, of course! I'm always up for a hike, and a nice day out's always nicer when you've got a friend to share it with, y'know?" Arris replied. And it was true! He was really excited to get to see the places Mya hung out at; he was gonna have to show her the best places to camp out by Magikarp Lake. It was gorgeous out there; probably moreso now that Pokemon were back to actually populate it.
He loved the season, too. The cooler weather, the leaves just beginning to turn... he'd wondered if Belle would change colors too (what did he know, really, about how grass-types worked?) - but she seemed just as fine as ever. She was bouncing along next to Eon, and seemed to be just enjoying the company rather than chattering for once. It was always nice to see Belle in such a relaxed mood. He loved the go-to full throttle energy that the tiny Bounsweet had when they met, but... seeing her mellow out the longer they were together was nice too. Though he wasn't entirely sure the same could be said for Eon.
The Bagon seemed fine, even if Arris was a bit concerned about the whole... shedding situation. It had gotten significantly worse since he'd last seen Eon. Even Belle had looked a little surprised. But Mya said he didn't seem to be in pain, and Arris absolutely believed her, so... Maybe it was nothing. But he'd also been about to lob fire at other passersby earlier that day, which seemed incredibly unusual from the Pokemon he'd met a full season ago. "Hey..." Arris slowed down a bit, keeping his voice low. "I know you said he was, and I don't like... not believe you - but you sure Eon's doing okay? He seems... I'm not sure."

Mya frowned deeply at Arris question. "I... don't know. He's been just... really aggressive. Which like, I expect from a dragon type, really? But Eon has never shown aggression before. Not to me or to you or anyone I know but... I don't know. I'm worried. I was debating taking him by the lab to make sure he's ok." But the lab was so far and Mya didn't know if leaving home for that long with Eon acting up was a good idea. He still loved getting attention from her and loved playing games but there was just something there. Even Járnsaxa had seemed rather surprised at some of Eon's aggression. She was still weaker than him, but was trying to catch up, but battles seemed to turn less into a fun hobby and into more of a chance to show off his power.
As she watched Eon walk, he was spouting some small embers and stopping at times to rub against a rock every now and then, trying to knock off the last few of the itchy scales. Although, Mya sucked in air from her teeth when he banged his head against the rock, chipping off a good chunk of his helmet. He seemed... fine? Not injured. Actually, he seemed happier like that. Like there was less weight on his head. And, as if nothing happened, he kept walking, scanning the area for any dangers. "I'm worried, Arris," she finally said after a while. "I just don't know what to do about it." She could... keep Eon in his pokeball? But that didn't seem fair to him at all. What was even going on with him? Maybe if pokemon had been around for a while she'd have the answer and not be so worried but as it stood, this didn't seem normal.

Arris nodded, glancing back and forth between Mya and Eon, just listening. It made sense for a dragon type to be aggressive, yeah. They were a step away from mythic, afterall. "If you want to bring him over to the lab, I can go with you so you don't have to go alone." He wasn't really worried about Mya herself getting in trouble. But if Eon was acting like that, he was more worried that it wasn't someone else that would get Mya into danger, but Eon himself. And while he wasn't sure about Belle facing off against the Bagon, especially with the fire, he knew Pepper would. And yeah, Mya had her other Pokemon, but they were just little ones, compared to Eon... they could get seriously hurt.
He grimaced as he watched the chunk of helmet fall off of the Bagon. "Arceus..." Arris hissed quietly. That... looked like it was some really serious damage. And yet he didn't look hurt, but... that was really something. Even Belle looked a little concerned. She stopped bouncing for a minute as the trainers began to catch up, and looked between them with a surprisingly serious expression for the little Bounsweet. But as Eon looked back their way the smile was immediately back, and she picked up the pace again; with the embers, though, she seemed to be keeping a greater distance from Eon than she normally would have. Eventually, she began to bounce along ahead of the group entirely, taking in her surroundings while humming her little berry tune.
Arris looked down to Mya properly at the admission of worry. He sighed and wrapped his arm around his friend's shoulder, giving a half-hug squeeze and hoping it would bring some form of support. "Yeah," he said. "I am too. But he doesn't seem injured, which is a start. I don't think our Pokedexes would give this kind of information, or I'd have looked it up last we saw one another. Maybe the lab would be a good idea, with their knowledge base. It's going to be okay. He'll pull through it. The two've you are gonna be just fine."

She gave a small smile when Arris gave her a side hug. "Yeah... thanks, man. I think I'll take you up on that. Just to make sure he's alright, you know?" She didn't want to admit it but... maybe she was a bad trainer? No one else's pokemon seemed to be shedding their scales and banging their heads against rocks and breaking off chunks of their body. She sighed. Maybe someone at the lab could just... ease those concerns. As Belle hopped on ahead, Eon watched her carefully before just continuing on. He felt something though, in his feet. A subtle vibration. Eon let out a small growl as he looked for the source, finally spotted it. Rocks. Falling rocks. He looked in their path and- Belle! Eon darted forward as fast as he could go, letting out a warning cry to the bounsweet as he approached, trying to catch up to the tumbling rocks from above. He was too small to take out rocks that big, but that wasn't going to stop him! He let out sound he hadn't made before. Unlike the growls and chirps he had made before, this one was more like a proper roar. He jumped at the rocks, wanting to get between them and Belle, and as he did, he began to glow. His body went from a stubby, short dragon with a head too big for his shoulders into a rounder pokemon with a shell harder than steel. The rocks slammed against the protective armor and bounced away, breaking apart to the point they were no harm to anyone. Eon crashed to the ground on four legs, all 250 pounds of him. The hard carapace hardly showed a scratch as he gave a snort and a powerful stomp that shook the ground, glaring at the mountain for even daring to harm Belle. He shook himself off, although more sluggishly, as if his new armor weighed a ton. He turned to Belle, yellow eyes glancing her over carefully, surveying for damage. "Shelgon!" He said finally, seeming to smile. He looked beyond Belle, though, noting Mya's gaping mouth and shocked expression. He tried to wave but almost toppled over. It seemed his center of gravity had changed. "Gon... shelll..." He took a moment to assess the situation. Huh. Strange. But holy Giratina's Dimension that felt so much better! He wasn't itchy anymore!
Mya was too stunned to move. She just stared at what had just been her little baby dragon. He had grown as tall as her knee but now he reached up to her hip. He was massive. She had even felt the ground shaking when he landed from the defensive jump he had taken for Belle. Maybe her brain was trying to catch up with what she just witnessed, but all she could mutter out was, "Eon?"
What the fuck just happened!?

"Yeah! It'll all be fine. If there's something major going on, I'm sure the lab will be able to tell us. It'll turn out." He made a note to send a message to Yew about that soon. Maybe when they got back to town... he didn't think he had any signal out here in the mountains, actually. Maybe he should check... Arris was just reaching to pull his phone out of his vest when Eon absolutely roared. His head shot up, and - oh, no no no. "Belle! MOVE!"
He needn't have worried, though. Belle hadn't even been touched by the rocks. But Eon... Arris hadn't the faintest idea what had just happened to the Bagon - if what he was could even be considered a Bagon anymore. Belle had startled, going stock stiff frozen in panic once she'd noticed Eon charging at her. She hadn't even realized there was severe danger until the now-Shelgon had taken out the rocks entirely. The mighty crash of the newly evolved Pokemon made Belle bounce into the air involuntarily, and as she caught her footing, she found she could only stare in surprise and awe at him. "....Boun?" she asked quietly. She wasn't even sure what she was asking. As he nearly toppled over she bounced forward to press against his side in an attempt to help right him - though... Belle looked over Eon entirely again. He was, uh... well. She didn't really even compare in size, anymore, did she? But what a thing! He'd evolved! And saved her! Belle bowed over to him, thanking profusely. "Swee? Boun boun!"
Without a word, Arris slowly pulled the phone out entirely. He opened up the Pokedex app, holding it up and pointing it at Eon. [Shelgon,] the readout said. [It surrounds its body in an iron-hard shell to accumulate enough power to evolve.] The tall boy nearly dropped the phone. Instead, he just simply lowered his arm to his side, looking about as shell-shocked as Mya did. "Son of a bitch," he finally said, voice quiet. He nudged Mya's shoulder very gently. "I think... we just witnessed an evolution?" That was maybe one of the most amazing things Arris had ever seen. Bar none, save for the memory of meeting Belle for the first time.
Oh, Arris thought. That really explained the shedding scales.

Eon smiled at Belle and thanked for her attempt to right him from stumbling. He would have to get used to how to move again. Standing still ensured his weight was all in the center where it belonged but moving even one leg seemed to cause a serious shift. Even so! It was great to not be itchy anymore. He blushed a bit and shook his.... head? at Belle's thanks. It was his duty! If he was going to be a proper knight, he had to protect everyone from danger! After all, the mountains were a deadly place. Besides, he'd never let Belle get hurt in his presence, not if he could help it. Mya continued to stare at her starter pokemon, listening to the pokedex readout. But it was Arris bumping her shoulder that really brought her back to reality. A large smile broke out on her face and she ran towards Eon, skidding on her knees to a stop to wrap her arms around his new bulk. "LOOK AT YOU! YOU SON OF A BITCH!" she laughed. "And to think I was worried about you! You're so big! You're so strong!" Eon blushed harder at the praise from his trainer. He retreated a little further into his new shell. He didn't know how to respond to this, he had just done what was natural! Besides, if they thought he was strong now, just they wait... one day he'll actually fly. Mya had stopped him from jumping off too many high surfaces but soon she wouldn't have to anymore. That'll be something to really witness. Eventually. Mya finally stood up, taking a look at her new pokemon with a bit of a confused look. "If that dex is right.... he'll evolve again, right?" she looked back at Arris with a smile, eyes bright. She didn't even know what to really say she was just... shell-shocked. Ha! Literally. Get it? Cause of Eon's new shell? Yeah, she'll show herself out.

A knight, huh? Was that what Eon's dreams for the future were in the end? Belle smiled with a little blush, flattered. That was very sweet of him to make sure she was safe! See, Belle knew what she was talking about. He was an amazingly brave strong Pokemon. And... she paused. Well, his partners were sure to be even more proud and excited for him! Especially Járnsaxa; she was sure to be absolutely over the moon for Eon. Belle was so joyful for his evolution!
Arris watched the display between Eon and Mya with a warm grin slowly splitting his face. What a heartwarming sight between trainer and Pokemon. Now this - this is the exact kind of thing that Arris absolutely knew was what drove him as a trainer. Memories like this. Seeing lives change like this, how Pokemon made them all so happy. And seeing how happy Mya was with this going on? Arceus, it was the absolute best. He looked at Belle and gestured to her. The little Bounsweet perked up at her trainer's notice, and bounded over, leaping up and into his arms. "That's gonna be you eventually, huh cutie? You bet it is!"
He looked back up to Mya as she stood, and looked back to the dex as he hesitantly nodded. "YYyyyyees. That would seem to be what's implied here. So he's only just started his growth. That's absolutely amazing. Mya, Eon! Congratulations to you both!! This is one of the coolest things to have happen! And look how big he is now! Absolute beef. It'll be hard for anyone facing off against him now."

Yes, Eon was a powerhouse now wasn't he? Those rocks didn't even harm him at all! And his massive bulk was going to prove valuable in tougher fights. There was always a limit of that energy of course, but it was just... such a surprise!Mya's smile great at Arris' words. She was just overjoyed. "I can't wait to see what Belle evolves into," she said after a moment. "But for now, we should celebrate! Back at the city or do you wanna go smash some rocks, bud?" Eon thought for a moment and smiled, making his way back down the path towards Famine. He smiled at Belle as he passed. He would never let her get hurt. That was a promise. And his new power would ensure he could protect those around him. And one day... even the gods would tremble at his strength.
