Professor Yew "Yes, it's definitely time for Oddish to take a break," the professor said, smiling at Atlas Arris' enthusiasm -- much to Oddish's relief; she had been staring at her trainer with big worried eyes. Yew returned Oddish to her Pokeball, then considered her two remaining Pokemon for a moment. Spinarak seemed like a better match for Atlas in experience, but she definitely wouldn't have a good time against the Charmander's flames. But Absol was a bit beefy to make a good sparring partner for Atlas. Hmm ... It doesn't matter if we win or lose, as long as everybody's learning, the professor reminded herself. But would Spinarak really learn from getting quickly burnt out? Especially since Atlas Arris would get a free attack when she switched in ... "I think it's Absol's turn next," the professor said, throwing a Pokeball. Emerging, Absol regarded Atlas Arris with her usual solemn demeanor. We'll go easy on the little guy, the professor promised herself.

Cause We're Not Stopping Till We Break Through Action: Atlas uses Ember! It hits! It deals 3 damage! Absol's HP is now 14!
Items Used: 0/3 Tracker Mya didn't even get a chance to speak an order. The moment the absol came out, Atlas had let loose the ember he was building up, spitting it at the snow white fur. He didn't seem to realize that this absol was much stronger than he was. More experienced. Mya figured that was a good thing. She'd hate for Atlas to be intimidated. He was young, but he had heart. She sighed. Well, maybe he'd listen to her next move. No harm in getting excited to battle. Eon watched wearily. He gave a deep, unhappy rumble. Mya ran a hand over his shell, frowning. She'd deal with Eon later.

Professor Yew Absol winced, stepping back, as Ember singed her white fur. It was a pretty substantial hit, more than she'd really expected from the little Charmander. But that made her all the more determined to show him what for ... Except: "Absol, use Leer," the professor said. Absol looked at her trainer, baring one fang; she wanted to attack -- use her speed and power to take down Atlas Arris. She doubted that she needed to lower his defenses -- in her mind, Leer would just give him more time to hit her. Which was, in fact, exactly what the professor wanted. She didn't want to crush the young Charmander's confidence, so she figured she'd let him get in a couple hits on Absol before unleashing Absol upon him. Not the best time for Absol, perhaps, but Absol had the battle experience she needed. "It's OK, Absol," Yew added, seeing her Pokemon's hesitation. "It's just a friendly match, remember?"Absol supposed she could understand that -- but still, she turned her most intimidating glare upon Atlas Arris.

Items Used: 0/3 Tracker The Leer was... terrifying. Atlas was almost taken aback, giving a bit of a shiver. Mya noticed the way his flame seemed to flicker and considered her options. She could be supportive or... not. "Atlas, don't forget you are in a battle! Now shake off that fear and use Ember!" She ordered. Atlas hesitated, but soon shook himself off and charged forward, letting out another burst of hot flames. He wasn't about to let this absol scare him! Although, that's exactly what the absol was doing but he could try to hide it! He was very bad at hiding it.

Professor Yew Yikes, the professor had tried to go easy on Atlas Arris, only to probably distress him more. Even Absol glanced back at her trainer with a look that the professor interpreted as "was this the effect you wanted?" But Yew decided to leave encouraging the little Charmander to Mya, suspecting that any attempt from her to reassure him would ring hollow. Still, if Leer had such a strong effect on him, Professor Yew didn't want to subject him to it twice -- yes, he needed to get battle experience, but there was no need to be cruel. So that left her with one good option: "OK, Absol, let's do a Quick Attack."

Cause We're Not Stopping Till We Break Through Action: Absol uses Quick Attack! It's a Critical Hit! Absol deals 23 damage! Charmander faints! Absol wins!
Items Used: 0/3 Tracker Mya sucked air between her teeth when she saw Absol vanish and reappear in front of Atlas, giving a strong and powerful Quick Attack to the little lizard. But Mya was experienced with a little game known as football. She darted after Atlas and caught him, the little lizard limp in her arms. "It's alright, bud, you'll get there one day," she said softly, recalling Atlas into his pokeball. She looked back at Eon, frowning as the shelgon stood up and seemed determined to steamroll Absol. She quickly recalled him back into his pokeball, believing that was enough fighting today.
"That was a great hit, Absol! I think you taught Atlas an important lesson," she said, smiling at the pokemon before looking back at the professor. "Thanks for the training session. I think this will be a great place to start on really teaching them about battling and overconfidence." She shoved her hands in her pockets, feeling a little off without any of her team out now, but it was better to be safe than sorry with Eon.

Professor Yew Professor Yew grimaced as Atlas went down, feeling a great deal of sympathy for the overmatched little Charmander -- but Absol was looking to her trainer, and Yew couldn't fault her for doing well. "Good hit, Absol. Solid work."Absol gave the professor a bit of a look; she could tell the praise was forced, but to be honest, she understood why. Atlas hadn't really challenged her, and while Absol didn't like the idea of going easy on him, she didn't derive much satisfaction from smashing him either. Then Eon shifted, and both Absol and the professor looked at him -- the professor with some alarm, since he was considerably larger and, at this point, more experienced than Absol. Absol, meanwhile, felt ready to take him on, even if she knew she'd lose. After all, she'd just steamrolled Atlas Arris; it felt fair to be steamrolled herself in turn. Still, everyone breathed a sigh of relief as Mya recalled Eon. "This was a good session," the professor agreed with Mya. "All our Pokemon did great jobs -- and remember, your Pokemon deserve to be confident as well as avoiding overconfidence. Anyway, feel free to drop by any time if you want more practice."||FINISHED|| how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?
