Mya was on her way to the lab, if only to show the professor Eon's progress. He had... certainly changed since they first met each other. Instead of the little two legged dragon with a helmet, he was now walking on all fours, moving more slowly due to the massive and heavy shell on him. Mya could feel the weight of his steps as he walked. Riding on top of Eon, not bothering the shelgon at all, was Atlas Arris. The charmander was laying down, taking a welcome nap under the sun. Wrapped around Mya much like a scarf that was living, his main frame draped over her shoulders and his tail wrapped around one of her legs, was the six foot long dratini: Wormy McWormington. Mya had left her lovely larvitar back home to look after Fuji and the other pokemon, especially that little Axew.... Vulcan, she had named him. Today was the day for Atlas and Wormy to bond with Eon a bit more, but there was another reason as well.
Mya had texted Professor Yew earlier. [Mind if I stop by the lab for a battle? I also want you to see Eon real quick.] Since Mya was in the area, she thought, battle or no, it'd be good to head to the lab anyway. Wormy gave a glance at each stranger they passed, letting out an aggressive and defensive hiss at them. This was his human, he had decided. Mya was nice to him, helped him shed his skin and gave him special lotion for his itchy scales. And she complimented how pretty he was a lot. Of course he was pretty! This human understood him and even kept that horrible rock/ground lizard away from him as much as possible. It worked. Therefore, he had decided to protect Mya from any harms he had perceived which... was everything. He had tried to convince her this jacket of hers was just hideous but to no avail. Ugh. Fine, if she so desired. Apparently she was keeping his shed skin as well. Humans were so strange.

 Professor YewUpon receiving Mya's text, the professor had quickly texted back: [Please do! We could use some battling practice too, and I would love to see how Eon has grown. I'll meet you in Arena B at 2, OK?]So when Mya arrived at the Lab complex, the professor was already waiting in one of the Lab's set-aside arenas, a large, well-kept dirt pitch designed for Pokemon to battle in. It didn't show a lot of use -- yet. "Mya!" the professor said. "Welcome back -- it's good to see you again. Clearly you've had some success out in the wilds, but where's ... ?"The professor trailed off, realizing the answer to her own question -- it had taken her a moment to realize that the massive Shelgon was, in fact, Eon. Yew's eyes widened, and a beaming smile rose to her face. "Did Eon evolve?"how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced? She gave a wave as she approached, having to move her arms away from Wormy's wrapping around her to do so. His weight brushed against the wrapped up burns on her arms, causing a slight grimace that she quickly brushed off. Wormy seemed to relax his grip in response, slithering off of Mya to give this new human a careful look. Atlas, on the other hand, jumped up and down on Eon's new shell, not seeming to bother the shelgon in the slightest, in a very earnest hello. He spouted some flames as he did so."Sup! And yeah! He did. It was awesome! He's really big and strong now, clocks in at 250 pounds!" Mya was very proud of her dragon. She reached out to pat his shell, the very top of it now reaching her hip. He was getting massive. "I collected all his shedding scales and stuff. He looked really funky before he evolved." Those scales would one day be a jacket or a piece of clothing of some sort. Mya wasn't sure what, but dragon scales were strong. And Wormy's shed skin seemed very resilient. "Oh, right," she said at Atlas' urgent cries at her to introduce him to their new friend. "This is Atlas Arris. And then this six foot beast is Wormy McWormington. I thought he was a worm type but turns out he's a dragon. Who would have guessed?" Mya shrugged. Wormy slithered around so he was around Mya's legs now, raising up to peer at the professor carefully while the little charmander clapped his claws together. He was so excited for a battle! It would be so fun! That was what Mya was talking about earlier, right? "Anyway, thanks for agreeing to battle with me. I really need these two here to get some experience of their own, ya know?" She smiled and shrugged. Mya... wasn't a bad trainer anymore, but she still knew nothing replaced a good battle.

Professor Yew "Incredible." The professor moved in to get a closer look at Eon, beaming. "As far as I know, Eon is the first Pokemon with a trainer to evolve since Pokemon returned. What was his evolution like?"Then she turned her attention to Mya's other two Pokemon, not wanting to neglect them. "Atlas Arris ... That name sounds rather familiar. Clearly a healthy Charmander, by the amount of fire he's putting out. Yes, hello to you too!"Smiling at Atlas Arris, the professor tried to avoid laughing at the words "worm type." Mya might not know a lot about Pokemon, but she was clearly learning fast -- and doing a great job as a trainer. "A Dratini ... they're quite rare, or at least they were 80 years ago, based on our old population data. Where did you find him?"Yew nodded, taking Oddish's Pokeball from her belt. "Yes, I have some Pokemon that need experience as well."Though ... Oddish and Spinarak would both be vulnerable to Atlas Arris' fire, so this wasn't the best match-up for the professor. Oh well! Win or lose, it would be good practice. "Would you like to get started?" The professor gestured to the end of the pitch, where Mya would stand during the battle. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced? |

Her eyebrows raised and Mya let out a whistle. "Really? The first? Wow, that's pretty awesome!" She shrugged. "Well, I was hiking with my bud, Arris, out near the volcano by Famine, right? And Eon was moving along walking all tough." She took out her phone and showed the professor some pictures of Eon's missing scales and the grey that had started to come up under his blue. "Then he knocked off a part of his helmet, yeah? I have it somewhere back home. And then these rocks came out of no where and boom! Eon destroyed the rocks before they could hurt Arris' partner Belle, a cute little bounsweet. And! Eon evolved during that moment! It was really intense." She looked down at Eon and he seemed to smile up at her. It was hard to tell with him always in his shell now, but his eyes sure did strike through that darkness in there.
Mya patted Atlas on the head and smiled. "I named him after Arris, actually. He reminded me of the legends of Atlas and of Arris. He's sweet and thoughtful like Arris, too. Lots of fun, always happy." Atlas let out a happy lizard-like purr and a bit of fire rumbled from his mouth. He really was a sweetheart. Mya couldn't wait to introduce him to Arris. She thought they would get along great. "But, uh, I found both of these guys, plus an axew that's back home looking after the place for me, at Drackinhelm. I actually, uh," she held up her bandaged arms, "got some burns during a battle with Wormy here. He was hanging out in a hot spring, and I thought he was neat. He's surprisingly affectionate, I expected him to hate me but, nope. He just hates my larvitar." She scratched under Wormy's chin. "He's a sweet fella, if a little judgemental."
Mya nodded and gave a grin. "Yeah! Let's go, guys. Remember what Eon taught you in sparring." Mya started her way over there, Eon following with Arris still on his shell and Wormy slithering his way gracefully across the field. He settled in front of Mya in his position for battle, coiling up and looking ready to strike. Atlas was already cheering. For who? He didn't care. He was just going to cheer! "Ready when you are, Professor!" Mya smiled, feeling like this was going to be great practice for them both, win or lose!

Professor Yew "Oh, you know Arris and Belle," the professor realized. Not the biggest takeaway from the story, really, but good to know -- and it was good to see trainers getting to know each other, networking, helping each other. "That must have been quite a sight! Records do show that Pokemon often evolve at moments of stress and crisis -- that rock slide may have been the catalyst Eon needed to complete his evolution. Hmm, as a Shelgon, he should have one more evolution -- Salamence -- but not for a while."The professor smiled at Atlas Arris, and at Wormington. "It sounds like you've gotten very lucky -- Dragonair, Axew, and Charmander are all quite rare Pokemon to encounter. You have my sympathy on those burns, though -- I hope they heal well."She would have told Mya to make sure she got them looked at, but Yew assumed Mya had already seen a doctor -- she was a grown woman and didn't need the professor to mother her. "All right, let's do this." The professor tossed Oddish's Pokeball out gently; the little Pokemon appeared and looked around. "Oddish, we're going to do a practice battle with Mya and her Pokemon, all right? Like we talked about. Is that OK?"Oddish turned to examine Wormy McWormington for a second, then nodded. Mya nodded at the sight of the Oddish, while Wormy narrowed his eyes. He was going to do his best to win if he could, but as Mya had told him before, losing was just part of life. It meant that you learned something vital for the next time you were involved in a fight. Well, so be it then! "Wormy! Wrap!" Mya called. The blue dragon shot forward and moved around the Oddish to deliver a wrap. The tight squeeze wasn't meant to cause a lot of harm right away, and was instead meant to cause damage over time. It was a move for long-term battles, as Mya learned in her first encounter with him. He didn't have many moves, but she had to use what he had. "Nice job! Keep your wits!" she called. Wormy nodded.

Professor Yew The professor nodded, eyes narrowing, as Wormy wrapped himself round Oddish. The little Grass-type had toughened up quite a bit -- she didn't even cry out, just looked to the professor for guidance. If the professor seemed unfazed by the damage, she'd take her cues from her trainer. "Don't worry, Oddish, we'll just have to finish this quickly." Before Wrap could take its toll, the professor meant. Still, should she start by boosting Oddish's attack? No, she wasn't sure Oddish needed the extra firepower -- or rather grasspower -- right now. Better to start out with an attack and then see if things needed adjusting. "Oddish, use Acid!"Nodding, Oddish spat poison at Wormy. ------- OOC: Oddish uses Acid! Taking the chance, being wrapped around the oddish, Wormy met with Mya's gaze and received a simple nod. He unleashed a jolt of electricity, sending paralysis waves through the Oddish. Wormy then moved away quickly, coiling himself back up and watching carefully, eyes narrowing at the strange plant. He had never encountered such a thing in his life, but he recognized an opponent when he saw one. So far, he seemed to get lucky to not have to take any damage from the oddish yet. But luck would only go so far, he had to be ready for anything and everything at this moment. "Nice going, Wormy!" Mya praised. "Just keep doing your best, yeah?" This was great practice. If Mya really did want to try and aim for being a gym leader, introducing her team to battles was the best option. She did wish Wormy had some better moves, but with training came experience and through that came new abilities.

Professor Yew The professor bit her lip as Oddish was paralyzed and then failed to get a mood off. That certainly wasn't going to helpthem win ... but then she caught Mya's eye and had to smile. Winning would be great, but she had to remind herself that it was about the practice -- learning and growth, for both the trainers and their Pokemon -- not about an easy victory. "Well done. OK, Oddish, we can still do this. Go for Acid again!"Yew estimated that Oddish's chances of winning were falling with every turn that she failed to inflict damage, especially as Wormy's Wrap ate away at her HP. But it was her first real battle, so the professor didn't want to place too much pressure on Oddish. She knew the little Pokemon was easily overwhelmed.

Mya watched Wormy move, getting ready to dart again. He glanced behind him and she nodded. Right now, they could lower defense or attack, but she knew Wormy wasn't one for stat changes in battle. Although, Mya knew the benefits of them, it felt as if their main issue was time. "Use Wrap again!" Wormy darted forward, wrapping around the oddish again to squeeze his long snake body tight, only to find that some acid was spat at him. He let out a cry and quickly slithered away, the acid bubbling along his blue scales. He glared at the oddish, as if the attack that had caused some of his fresh blue scales to sour filled him with anger. Mya sucked in a breath between her teeth. "Brush it off, Wormy! No time to worry about your hair!" She called, knowing the dratini had no hair, but he was a rather vain sort. "Just keep trying to do your best!" Reaching the dratini was harder than she had hoped, but at least he seemed to listen to her. Maybe it was something in her voice, but Wormy shook himself and splattered the acid across the field, seeming to double his focus on the fight. At least he was trying.

Professor Yew The professor smiled a little at Mya's comment about Wormy's hair, then refocused and got down to business. She debated between using Acid and Absorb. While Acid was Oddish's strongest move, the slow chipping away of health from Wrap worried her, and she thought the little health regeneration supplied by Absorb might give Oddish a little more cushion ... But then she remembered that Wormy was Dragon-type. Running through the types in her head, she realized that Absorb, a Grass-type move, wouldn't be effective on Wormy -- it might not even do enough damage to provide Oddish with any healing. Well, that made the decision for her. "Oddish, let's keep at it with Acid!"

It was such a slow change in damage being dealt that Mya felt that this might be down to the wire. If Oddish missed an attack, it could go in Wormy's favor, but if the Oddish didn't, the Oddish would win. Ah, that was the rub, wasn't it? And Wormy had no more moves that could really prove useful, even if Thunder Wave. "Use Wrap!" Mya shouted, the dratini redoubling his efforts to really put the squeeze on the Oddish, but that sudden splash of acid against his scales had the dragon hissing in pain. Win or lose, Mya could recognize Wormy was already learning he wasn't suited for battle as he was right then. He needed practice and to learn some new moves. All in due time, Mya knew. All in due time. At least Atlas seemed to be gearing up and ready for battle, getting pumped up with the potential of fighting! That was good to see, at least.

Professor Yew Yew chewed on her lip, considering her options. Another Acid should drop Wormy ... unless Oddish missed. Alternately, Absorb could give Oddish a little more HP to play with ... but it wouldn't be effective on a Dragon-type. Oddish looked to her trainer, feeling a bit worse for wear, shaking a little, but with determination in her eyes. She would tough this out if Yew told her to -- because she trusted her trainer to take care of her even if she were defeated in battle. Yew recognized and appreciated that trust; Oddish had come a long way from the skittish Pokemon Yew had first met. "All right, Oddish. One last Acid should do the job."

Mya clicked her tongue at the situation. Wormy wasn't getting out of this unless he was lucky, but they could at least do something. "Wormy, keep wrapping!" The dratini nodded and tightened his hold, knowing he was dealing damage, but also expecting the worse. When the acid shot out at him that was it. The pain had gotten too much. He gave it one last effort, but his coils went slack as he fainted on the battlefield. At least he made it so if the Oddish stayed in the fight, they'd faint too. But he would never know if that was the case or not. Mya returned him to his pokeball and smiled. "Nice try, bud. You'll get there one day, I promise." She put his pokeball back and nodded to Atlas. The Charmander rushed onto the battlefield. Spitting fire. "Atlas, stop." Mya looked up to Yew, noting the Charmander gave her a confused look. "Want to switch Oddish out?"
Oh, yeah... huh. Atlas considered this. That was like... polite, right? He gave a sheepish grin at the Oddish and a small bow of apology.
