 Professor YewThe professor winced and had to stop herself from muttering Oh no at the magnitude of Spinarak's Poison Sting. She'd expected it to hit hard, but not that hard ... Even Spinarak looked a little uncertain of how to feel about her victory. Still: "Good job, Spinarak."As Takara sent out Shri, Yew spent a moment considering their proposal. Spinarak hadn't gotten that much combat experience from fighting Orion; she clearly still had some fight in her, as she looked to Yew for guidance. Yew suspected that her other Pokemon might prove too much for the young Riolu, even with Absol's type disadvantage. "I think Spinarak can stay in for now. Is that all right, Spinarak?"Spinarak nodded. Defeating Orion hadn't exactly satisfied her; she'd like to see how she fared against a Pokemon who wasn't, well, a literal baby. "All right, then. Let's start with Constrict!"

Shri got ready to move, ready to obey whatever order came, but she had a feeling she knew which one. "Quick Attack!" Takara called. Shri moved quickly, slamming a strong kick on the spinarak. But in return, she was hit with Constrict. She felt her speed drop as the sticky web clung to her paws. Oof, that was annoying! But it didn't matter. She shook herself off, not willing to give up yet! "Hang in there, Shri!" Takara said. If luck stayed on their side, this wouldn't take very long, but there were two other opponents... unless they wanted to call the battle earlier, but Takara was fine with either choice. Any experience was good experience. And Shri seemed to be having a grand ol' time!

Professor Yew "Rak!" Spinarak cried out, involuntarily, as Shri hit her. She found her feet again and stood strong, but Yew could tell that she wasn't going to make it much longer -- she needed to pull out. Or the professor could let her faint, and thereby get a better start for her next Pokemon to enter the battle -- but that seemed needlessly cruel, to drive Spinarak to exhaustion just for a little tactical advantage. "Spinarak, switch out," the professor called, pressing the button on Spinarak's Pokeball. With relief, Spinarak zapped back inside to rest. Who next? Absol had a type disadvantage to Shri, but both of the professor's remaining Pokemon were rather older and beefier than Shri, so such a handicap might just make things fair. But Absol also hit hard. Yew turned to the sidelines where her other two Pokemon waited. "Oddish, are you up for a battle?""Dish?" Oddish seemed surprised to be asked, and she had to think about it for a moment. But then she hopped up and jogged onto the field. "Dish!"

The switch out was a good call, to Shri. She felt bad fighting the spinarak when there was a battle beforehand, but a fresh opponent would be fine. Shri was just happy to get a chance to actually practice her accuracy and moves against opponents that could take a hit and respond. Fighting against a punching bag just wasn't the same. As the oddish stepped onto the field, Shri already knew the order. Endure was useless unless she was up against a rough enemy, like a bird. And Feint was only good if protective moves were being used. So... she darted forward with another quick attack! Giving a solid hit to the oddish! She jumped back after the hit, ready for the battle to really begin.

Professor Yew "Dish?" Oddish's eyes widened as Shri slammed into her, knocking her back. She'd consented to the battle, but she hadn't really expected to be hit so hard, and for a moment her eyes looked quite watery as she turned to her trainer. "You can do it, Oddish!" Professor Yew said, trying to encourage the little Pokemon without pressuring her. "But if you really don't want to battle, we can stop."Oddish blinked away her incipient tears and shook her head, taking a more solid stance opposite Shri. The assurance that she could stop when she needed to had strengthened her resolve, and she wanted to at least make an effort instead of immediately bowing out. They might as well see what she could do! "Dish!""Good," the professor said. "Use Absorb!"It wouldn't hurt to get a little of that health back, the professor figured.

There was a brief moment of worry that spread through Shri's chest after the hit, but she soon pushed it away at the sight of the oddish still wanting to battle. Very well! Shri had to admire the gusto! She prepped herself and moved at a nod from Takara for another quick attack! Upon the hit though, she felt herself on the receiving end of an absorb, her energy being drawn from her!
Shri clenched her jaw and jumped back, rubbing the site of the attack. It had a slight burning sensation to it, but that was how battles went down, wasn't it? She clenched her fists and nodded. Right! She wasn't about to quit!

Professor Yew "Good job, Oddish," the professor said as Oddish glanced back at her for feedback. Oddish nodded with determination, feeling a bit more secure now that she'd seen that she could heal herself with Absorb. That ought to keep her from hurting too much, the little Pokemon thought. But what to do now? Almost in sync with her Pokemon, Professor Yew considered her options. Sweet Scent wouldn't do much -- Oddish wasn't having any trouble hitting Shri. And the professor didn't think Oddish's stats needed the boost offered by Growth. So that left Acid or Absorb ... They did similar amounts of damage, the professor believed, so she decided Absorb was a better pick, to try to keep Oddish's health up. "Let's go with another Absorb."

It seemed to be a headway battle. Which Takara supposed was common with young pokemon. "Shri, keep focusing on Quick Attack!" Takara ordered. Shri nodded and charged, but she was beginning to grow weary. She was still a young puppy, after all. Maybe it'd be easier for her when she got older and larger, but for now, this was good enough. Takara knew Shri wasn't focused on winning as much as she was on the finesse of her battle style. Maybe that was why Shri tried a new type of kick with her attack, but even the new style didn't save her from the absorb. She looked even more exhausted now. It wouldn't be too much longer until this battle was over. That was fine. Takara felt his pokemon had already learned a lot.

Professor Yew The professor could taste victory now, and it excited her more than she cared to admit. This should have just been a practice battle; it shouldn't have mattered to her who won. But the truth was, she wanted to win. She told herself that it was because winning would boost Oddish's confidence more than losing, and Oddish could use the boost -- but the truth was that Yew just wanted victory for its own sake. Still, a confidence boost for Oddish wouldn't hurt. "Good job, Oddish, we're almost there! Another Absorb!"Assuming that all went well, the professor figured that she'd have Oddish switch to Acid for what she expected to be the final blow on Shri, so that Oddish could get some practice using a variety of moves.

It didn't take too long. While Shri did get another solid kick in, that next Absorb hit her hard, draining her of the last of her energy. She collapsed to the ground, still. Takara quickly recalled her out of the battle, giving a sheepish smile. "Better luck next time," they said with a small chuckle. Ah, baby pokemon sure did have some fight in them, huh? They wondered how powerful the team would be when they eventually evolved... Who knew? "Thanks for the battle, Yew! I appreciate it. Hopefully they both learned something useful!" Takara put their hands in their pockets, already planning on the best way to get to the pokemon center, and what food to pick up as a reward for their team. "Maybe we can have a rematch sometime, yeah?"

Professor Yew The professor was a little surprised to see how easily Shri went down, but she did her best to hide it, because she didn't want to insult either Pokemon. Instead she praised her little warrior: "Excellent job, Oddish! That was a really good hit.""Dish?" Oddish looked uncertainly at where Shri had fallen unconscious, concerned that she might have actually hurt the Riolu. "It's all right, Oddish," Yew said, correctly interpreting her Pokemon's worry. "Shri's going to be fine."Then the professor turned to Takara, smiling. "Good battle! I hope so too -- and absolutely. I look forward to seeing how both our teams will develop."In the meantime, she needed to get her team to a Pokemon Center too -- but she'd probably just use the Lab's facilities.
