Ah, the laboratory. Takara had, at one point, considered studying pokemon themselves but the mathematics of engineering were too alluring to deny. Was that a nerdy thing to say? Yes, but Takara did love doing complex calculations in their head and stunning some of the new interns that thought they knew something. It always went to show that not all CEO's were dumb as rocks. Takara had experience. Not business experience, per say, but they had build buildings. They could tell at a glance if a structure was going to last for a lifetime and how well built it was. Some of these newer constructions made them sob in grief. Half of them would need serious repairs in just ten years Such a shame. But Takara had a purpose from leaving the office and work to come here. They had texted Yew earlier, knowing that Yew had a good team of pokemon that could help teach a thing or two. Specifically, Takara wanted Shri to get some actual battle experience against someone else and Orion needed some as well. Orion would lose, in a heartbeat, but the little guy seemed eager to try and train. He had watched Shri do some sparring with Takara before and that lit a fire in the little ralts. [Hey! I'm here! I've only brought Shri and Orion with me.] Takara realized Yew would probably not know who Orion was, but eh. The little ralts was sitting on Takara's shoulder, clinging to their ponytail for support. Shri, however, walking in front of Takara. She was ready! And pumped! Every loss was a chance to get stronger! That was what Takara told her, anyway. It was never a shame to lose a battle as long as you learned something from it.

 Professor YewThe professor had decided to get in some training too, and Takara would find her with three of her Pokemon out: Absol, Oddish, and Spinarak. Absol chased Spinarak around the arena as Spinarak shot webs at her, trying to slow her down without stopping long enough to get caught herself -- an exercise the professor had devised rather blindly, but that seemed to at least entertain the Pokemon. Meanwhile, Oddish sat off to the side, watching and soaking in the morning sunshine. The professor herself paid close attention to Absol and Spinarak's training/game, shouting encouragement and feedback, though she honestly had no idea how helpful her feedback actually was. She didn't have a lot of battle experience herself -- fortunately, Takara would help her change that.

Takara smiled at the text and quickly made their way to the pitch, taking note of what was happening. Ah! That looked like a rather fun game! Orion seemed interested in t, clapping one of his little hands against his leg and tugging on Takara's ponytail. Shri smiled up at the young pokemon, feeling Takara's anxiety with what was going to go down. Orion would... most likely lose the battle, but at least it would be great experience for him!"Hey, Yew!" Takara called. "How's it going? Good, I hope." He took a gander at all the pokemon that were out and about now. They lowered Orion to the ground, allowing the young little ralts to walk ahead a bit, although Shri stuck by close. "Uh, the little ralts is Orion. He's very young but has a lot of spirit. He followed me home from the woods a few days ago." Such a cute little guy, but Takara was like a nervous parent. Orion needed to grow stronger. As it stood Orion, well, had trouble standing.

Professor Yew "Takara! It's good to see you." The professor looked up from the Pokemon's game, and Absol paused to evaluate the newcomers too -- but Spinarak didn't, so Absol took a splash of webbing straight to the face. "Oh, let's stop for now, Absol, Spinarak -- here, let's get that webbing out of your fur."Absol and Spinarak both approached Yew, Absol rather slowly, since she could barely see. The professor would need Spinarak's help to dissolve the sticky webbing, unless she wanted to pull off half of Absol's fur with it. As Spinarak guided Absol over to the sidelines, Yew looked at Orion, smiling. He was absolutely adorable, but she didn't want to gush over him -- that would be unprofessional. Besides, in her experience, human children preferred to be taken seriously, so maybe this Pokemon would too. "It's nice to meet you, Orion. I know you've found a good trainer in Takara."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced? |

Takara bit back a chuckle at watching the absol get a glob of webbing to the face. Orion, however, chuckled at the sight. Shri gave a bit of a sigh, hoping there would be no offense taken. Orion was still learning the ropes of... everything, after all.
Orion looked up at Yew, trying to see her from under his helmet, but he felt good feelings coming from her! She smiled and nodded. He felt like he made a good choice too! Takara really did try to take care of him properly! Orion wanted to be like Shri, too! Big and strong! Even though Shri needed some training herself, Orion didn't know that. "So, um," Takara said, giving Orion a worried look. "I want Shri and Orion to train a bit. Orion is... very new to battles but he's watched Shri fight before. So... go easy?" It was a tall order to make for a pokemon battle, but Orion had taken to trying to fight random things around the office and Takara's apartment. It wasn't really fighting as much as trying to act like Shri, aka, Takara's bodyguard. And even then Takara didn't know how to feel with Shri trying to protect them all the time. But, ah well! That's life! There were worse things.

Professor Yew Absol gave Orion an intimidating, positively foreboding look, rather miffed with his chuckling, though she didn't take the matter any further, not even growling in warning. The professor, meanwhile, didn't mind at all. It was funny, and Orion was just a baby. "We can do that," Yew said. As professor, she should get used to fighting trainers with rather under-powered Pokemon -- and giving them battles that encouraged them and helped them grow instead of stomping them. She turned to her Pokemon. "OK, Absol and Oddish, you'll probably sit this one out. Spinarak, why don't you give battling a try?"Spinarak looked up at the professor, then at Orion and Shri. She considered for a moment, then nodded. "Rak!"She didn't really have any experience battling -- though she certainly had more life experience than Orion -- and she was ready to try it out, if her trainer wanted her to. Though she was rather relieve to know that they'd be just practicing, not going full out. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced? |

The emotions of the absol hit Orion like a truck and the little ralts gave a fearful cry before rushing to hide behind Shri, quivering. Shri shot a glare at the absol and tried to comfort the little ralts, gently explaining what had gone on and how, perhaps, chuckling was not appropriate. Takara gave a sigh at the sight and looked back at Yew, resembling a tired parent. "Sounds great, we'll start with Orion so he can kinda... get a feel for it all."Takara knelt down and picked up the ralts, taking out a handkerchief and wiping away the tears and snot. "Alright, Orion, you wanna battle some? Train like Shri does when we go on our walks?" The ralts nodded and sniffed. Takara smiled and carried the ralts to one part of the battlefield and setting him down before stepping a few feet away. Orion followed. "Ah, no, no. You gotta stay there and face your opponent, alright? Remember, this will give you some experience."
Orion hesitated before nodding, turning back around to watch the professor and the green spider. He sniffled a bit. Takara had a feeling this wasn't going to end up well. "Let us know when ya'll are ready!" Yeah... this wasn't going to take long.

Professor Yew Absol started in alarm as Orion cried and hid. She'd glared, yes, but she hadn't meant to scare the baby! She wasn't even really mad or anything, just ... miffed. The professor held back her first instinct, which was to scold Absol -- but she doubted Absol had meant any harm, or anticipated Orion's reaction, and she didn't want to introduce more hard feelings. Instead she looked down at Absol and said, "Let's be a little gentler with him, OK? He's just a baby.""Sol," Absol apologized, nodding. Meanwhile, Spinarak made her way to the pitch, stopping opposite Orion. She, too, could appreciate how cute and clearly inexperienced Orion was, and she had no problem taking it a bit easy on him. Not that she would throw the match or anything, but she didn't have to go all out, did she? "Ready, Spinarak?" the professor asked. Spinarak glanced back at her trainer and nodded. "OK, Takara, we're ready."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced? |

Takara gave an apologetic smile at the absol. Orion was... very sensitive. He was like Shri in some ways, able to sense things but not quite sure how to manage that. Either way...."Alright!" He called, looking to Orion. "OK, Orion, let's try a disarming voice!" Orion did not have many moves, and the type advantage was not... great, but! A battle was a battle and experience was experience! Orion took a moment, thinking about it before snapping to attention and seeming to realize that was an order! The ralts turned to focus on the spider and let out a crying voice that seemed to be filled with some fairy-like power... alas, this was a poison type. Oh well! Orion just seemed pleased to cause some damage! He let out a little laugh, clapping his hands gleefully. Takara smiled and sighed. Ah, to be a parent.

Professor Yew "Good job, Orion!" the professor called, wanting to encourage the baby. And he had done a good job getting the move off and getting a hit! It wasn't his fault that he had a type disadvantage here. Spinarak gave him an encouraging little wave, too, wondering if she should pretend to be super hurt when he hit her, to boost his confidence. Or would he see through that? Now Yew had a bit of a difficult choice ahead of her. She didn't have to worry about how to win the battle; rather, she wanted to decide how easy to go on Orion. Poison Sting would probably hit him hard, due to the type advantage, so she decided to leave that one out. That left Constrict, Absorb, or String Shot ... String Shot would be the easiest on Orion: his Speed was already lower than Spinarak's, so it didn't really matter if he got a little slower. However, the professor wasn't sure that totally refusing to hit Orion was a good idea -- that wouldn't really give him the battle experience he needed, and if he realized that they were going easy on him, it might hurt his confidence. So ... "Spinarak, try Constrict," Yew ordered. Spinarak nodded and started spinning webs to catch Orion in.

Seemingly overflowing with joy, Orion let out another attack in the form of the cry. Takara smiled a bit, already tired from today's shenanigans, but happy Orion was having a good time. They'd have to work on following instructions in battle but... well, what could one do? "Good job!" Takara praised. Orion turned around to accept it and clap his hands, but soon found himself under attack! He let out a startled cry at the pain and the fact he was trapped! Apparently, his struggling prevented him from being slowed down too much.
"It's alright, Orion! This happens sometimes in battles!" Takara said, looking to the professor next. "Don't be afraid to go hard on him, Yew! He asked for a battle!" Takara did not want Orion to get hurt, but also, the ralts had to learn that, sometimes, battles would hurt and he wouldn't win. It was a tough lesson, and he was too young to have learned it in the wild. So... it was up to Takara to take that fall.

"Don't worry -- we'll give him some good experience."She still didn't want to go too hard on Orion, but she knew that it would be better for him to learn that battling could involve pain and failure now rather than later. It would be bad if his first real fight was up against a wild Pokemon who wouldn't consider Orion's youth or inexperience when attacking. "Spinarak, let's go with Absorb this time."Spinarak glanced back at the professor, as if to ask if she was sure, and the professor nodded. Yes, Absorb would hit a little harder than Constrict, but they could ease off a little after this, as Orion's HP got lower.

The little ralts let out a crying voice again without instruction, perhaps some sort of instinct pokemon held for battle waking up in him, but Takara frowned a bit. It wasn't that they didn't think Orion could become a powerful force one day, but at the same time, there was a part of Takara that hated to see the little guy fight. Takara hadn't really been one for battles when it came down to it... they didn't like to see anything in pain, but it was how pokemon were, wasn't it? The absorb hit Orion square on, but he managed to come back from it without too much pain it seemed. Takara sighed at seeing the little ralts still standing, but they didn't enjoy the little cry of pain that followed the attack. Still! Orion deemed determined!

Professor Yew Professor Yew nodded in satisfaction as Spinarak's Absorb restored a little of her vigor -- not much, but neither Pokemon had that much to spare. Then she took a deep breath. OK, time to get serious. "All right, Orion, brace yourself for this," the professor called. "Spinarak, use Poison Sting."Spinarak nodded and sent a poison stinger shooting out at Orion, trying to jab him. She didn't exactly have type matchups memorized, so unlike the professor, she had little inkling of how hard this attack would hit Orion -- as long as it actually hit. The professor, meanwhile, wondered if she'd overdone it.

Orion let out another cry and recognized he did some damage, but the professor's warning did concern him. When the poison sting hit, the little ralts didn't even see it coming. He had fainted shortly after the poison had moved in. Takara sucked some air between their teeth at the sight and sighed. Oh well, every loss was an important lesson, and eventually Orion would learn that some types could seriously hurt him. Takara recalled Orion and smiled at the pokeball. "Get some good rest, alright? I'll get you healed up soon." Shri didn't even need instruction. She stepped out onto the battlefield with a determined nod. The professor knew what she was doing and knew that battles sometimes did this, so Shri wasn't concerned for Orion's safety or health. He would be fine. "Alright, Yew! Who is next? Wanna switch out for fairness or?" Takara asked, putting Orion's pokeball away.
