Name: Devereux Abremont
Age: 27 Years
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Hometown: Toploss (Current residence is ancestral family home, in Aspermont)
Personality:
KEY PERSONALITY TRAITS: Gentle | Curious | Self-Critical
Devereux is the type of man that seems to be exactly what he is on the tin; what you see is exactly what you get. But that's only if you don't care to try to see what's further inside. Past the surface level is a man of incredible complexity and deep emotion. He is everything he is on the outside -- but he is so much more.
For all intents and purposes, on both the outside and in, Devereux is a man of integrity, gentleness, and unerring kindness. He is quiet and soft-spoken, and very seldom raises his voice in any negative way. He doesn't have it in him to be cruel, nor does he have the energy to be truly angry or upset very often. He is a family man, good with children and small animals. Only when something he truly cares about is threatened or put in harms way, does the man straighten his spine, lower his voice, and show the ample amount of potential danger hiding just under the skin. But looking at him, one would think the man incapable of any kind of violence, no matter how small.
He is curious, intellectual, and has the heart of a wanderer. When others might think him lost in thought, he is still listening. Dev tends to remember things people have told him, and is surprisingly observant. And even if he might be perfectly content wiling his days away in the sun in the company of loved ones, he cannot stay still forever. Even if it is a brisk walk down the road and back, he has to stay active eventually. He is drawn to it. He is driven to explore, to learn, and to reflect on the past and strive for the future!
But upon closer inspection... past all the quiet sweetness, the delight in wandering and learning, and the quiet camaraderie of a listening ear... one might notice, if they were really looking, that there is a bone deep sadness in Devereux's blue, blue eyes. He is his own worst enemy. The man is incredibly hard on himself, holding himself to a standard that he holds no other person to. And even still, in the way he interacts with others, there's something else...
History:
Devereux's bloodline is a long one. His family ancestry originates from sunny Alola, but has been in Deprin for generations upon generations. Originally, they lived in Aspermont -- an old family of researchers, studying Pokemon ecology and how Pokemon related to and involved in the environments around them. Some might say that their bloodline in the region is as old as the town. Devereux would say that it doesn't matter, anymore.
In Devereux's time, his immediate family had since moved to Toploss Town, becoming one of the transplant families that stayed after the recovery and rescue movement that helped the natives of Toploss create a new home in the bases of the mountains after inhospitable climes without Pokemon pushed them out of Veerie. His mother was a researcher of Pokemon mythos and history, studying what may have happened to Pokemon -- where they went, and why. His father is an incredibly well-to-do and upcoming businessman with ruthless ambition. The man was never a part of his life; but that didn't matter. He had his mother, his cousin, aunt, his beloved older brother, and most beloved of all -- his uncle that loved and cared for him like a son. He was a little boy who had everything he could ask for.
Until, in the blink of a single day, he didn't.
The Abremont family is one of researchers and professors, afterall. And ones studying the disappearance of Pokemon, aside. What kind of scientists would they be if they did not explore lost ruins and civilizations looking for clues? But nature is a cruel mistress. In a single fell swoop, a devastating natural disaster -- a blizzard of epic proportions setting off an avalanche -- swept across the mountainside of Mt. Veerie. The entire expedition team was lost in the cold... and never recovered.
Suddenly, a large, relatively happy family was a single man and the two little boys huddling under his arms, alone and afraid and grieving. And even this wasn't meant to last. Toplossers are not known for their hospitality and warmth towards outsiders; but especially not those from Aspermont. And a transplant family is still a transplant. Increasing hostility led to Devereux's uncle taking him and his brother, and moving back to Aspermont. Afterall, his grandmother was ailing in age anyway, and needed someone to take care of her.
And so, Devereux was raised in the oldest city of Deprin -- the birthplace of his own bloodline, of sorts. His grandmother eventually passed, but his uncle was the only family he and his brother had ever really known - the man was a father to him in every way but blood. He gave everything he could, always -- love, care, education, and a permanent safe place to always trust.
Eventually, Devereux grew up, and at his family's insistence went to college -- and under his own insistence, he followed in their footsteps. The ecology of Pokemon. A historical degree these days, more than anything. But an interesting one nonetheless, and one that led to the research of their disappearance.
---
Devereux would think by now, that he had learned that all things can change at the drop of a hat.
Pokemon were back. Just as inexplicably as they were gone, they were back, as if nothing had ever happened, as if their appearance hadn't totally flipped the world upside down on it's head. A curiosity for some, a hardship for others, the reappearance was a blessing to Devereux.
Suddenly, Pokemon ecology was back on the market. Suddenly, there was a reason for field research again. Suddenly... there was a reason for him to wander, explore, learn... have the freedom and happiness and the wide open world that had been stripped from him as a child.
The world of Pokemon awaits!
(Art by Me -- this is of his 'canon' elven appearance and will be updated when he has a fullbody ref for his human/pokemon one! Please pardon the ears.)
General Appearance:
Devereux is a dark-skinned individual with native islander characteristics. He is ABSURDLY tall, standing at about 7' (213cm), and even moreso since he often wears shoes with heels. He is athletic in build - broad, strong, and sturdy, befitting his larger stature. His hair is extremely curly, and also long - a dark, almost black plum-like color that is streaked through with fuchsia. It is natural. Dev has an aquiline nose and bright robin's egg blue eyes; his left eye however, is marred by a fairly severe burn scar that also scatters across his left shoulder. A good general description of Devereux is to call him a 'gentle giant'.
