Deep in the swamplands of Broadmarsh, past where the old routes have been overtaken by gnarled roots and prolific cattails, there are the remains of an old city. It once floated on and above the Grass River, anchored into trees and on watery bridges with Pokémon assistance. These days, the bridges of Westplain City are little more than driftwood, the platforms sunken and rotted, tree-bound buildings overgrown, decimated, and swept away by flood. It is a beautiful tragedy - preserved forever in the waters of the marsh.

Westplain City was once a hot-spot for trainers and travelers alike. It's natural beauty was something to truly behold. The city lived in perfect harmony with the world around it, wild pokémon moving among the people with such natural fluidity. Westplain City was the place to go for relaxation, comfort, and to reconnect with the beauty of nature and pokémon. That is, until the Rapture happened. The disappearance of pokémon hit the city hard. The people had livevd with wild pokémon, some of them for their whole lives, not seeing the difference between partner pokémon and those that still called the swamp home. And the sudden silence of nothing but the swamp water bubbling and trees rustling in the wind was so chilling. The city was, for the first time in its history, alone. But this wasn't theonly tragedy to strike the city. They soon realized how much they depended on pokémon. Not only did pokémon help them fix the floats that connected parts of the city and keep everything above water, but the wild pokémon fed on the plant-life, keeping it under control. Everything about the city had been built with wild pokémon in mind... and without them, it was soon left to the destructive forces of flora without the fauna to control it. It took only a few years, the swamp plants growing fast and wild, before Westplain City because the Sunken City. Some of its buildings were swept apart and away by floods, others rooted in place with overgrown vegetation, and its poison-type gym half sunken in the water, poking out of the algae and lilipad ridden swamplands. The ghost town is proof of the balance that nature relies on and what happens when one of its key components is so quickly ripped away.
