It was a... somber day for the lab. News of the professor's death had rocked the entire facility to its very core. Many people had taken time off to mourn their colleague's passing. Yet one worker decided to remain behind, instead of leaving the entire lab abandoned and closed. Many people were still getting their starter pokemon after all, and besides... she felt like it was what Yew would have wanted. Someone to be there to give out the starters. Her own pokemon watched her with a lazy eye, the Ivysaur knowing what was happening in the world beyond, but not quite having the energy or care to do anything about it. The large plant dinosaur let out a yawn as the door's bell rang. The assistant smoothed down her coat and left the store room to greet whoever it was at the front. "Hello!" she says with a bright smile. "How can I help you? Heal one of your pokemon, give you some information, or provide you with a starter?"Her Ivysaur stood up and walked over to her, giving a greeting of his own, shaking out his hide, causing the bulb to shake with him which releases a pleasant scent. Starter Pokemon Appeared!
To be seen soon!

As a country child, Grey's world only extended so far. He knew little to nothing about what lay beyond the mountains to the Northeast or across the Northwestern marsh - after all, their matters (if anything exists out there in the first place) don't affect the season's crops, as far as his family was concerned. But today, Grey's business would take him to the edge of the world: Mistveil City. Mistveil had been the destination of the occasional class field trip during Grey's youth. When he first saw them, the human-built machinations that powered the city seemed as fantastical as the "Pokemon" that he grew up hearing so much about in stories. Yet more than anywhere else, Mistveil felt like a second home to the swamp dweller - the humid air and shallow line of sight reminding him of the boggy marshland that touched the periphery of his family's land. It had been about a year since he'd made the trek through Route 6, and it was just as pleasant as ever. But when he set foot in Mistveil City, Grey couldn't help but notice that the air was a little bit different. Not the literal air, which was... misty as ever. Few people could be spotted walking the usually-bustling city streets this afternoon. Stepping through the magical, automatic sliding doors of the lab, Grey's previous assessment of the city continued to hold true. "Are they closed? That's the problem with these fancy doors: why would they let me in if the lab's closed?" he wondered aloud. Continuing forward to the counter, his hypothesis that the lab was out of commission for the day was quickly disproven by the appearance of a lab worker. A Bulbasaur not far behind in stride, her friendly demeanor contrasted starkly with the subdued atmosphere of Mistveil. As curious as he was for answers, Grey figured that the diplomatic thing to do was just to allude to his ignorance with the hope that she'll help him fill in the blanks. "Hello!" he greeted in return, trying his best to reciprocate the worker's energy. "I'm here for a starter today, if you've got any. I've been waiting for this day for a long time - I had to come out here from my family's farm up around Route 4, but as soon as I set foot in town, I was worried that everyone might be closed for business!" he half-joked. ------- OOC: I'd like to get a starter! Day || Clear Her smile flickered. Yes, it may seem that way. "Ah, yes... most places are right now. The city is, um... mourning the loss of Professor Yew." She turned and motioned for the young man to follow. "This way, please! We have plenty of potential starter pokemon."She talked as they walked. "So you came all the way from Route 4? That's impressive! I'm not surprised that you haven't heard either, but there was a terrorist attack here at the lab a while ago. Many people got hurt and the professor passed away." She opened one of the doors as her Ivysaur held it open for them. "But enough about that! This is an exciting day! Your first pokemon!" She walked over to a large machine that was well-stocked with pokeballs. She pushed a few buttons and pulled a few levers and the machine deposited six pokeballs. "Let's see who we have..."She tossed out the first pokeball to reveal a dark grey dog with a snaggletooth. The puppy sneezed. "This is a poochyena! A predator whose species developed in Hoenn! They can be very playful and tend to live in packs in the wild."She tossed out the second one and a purple creature formed with shining eyes for eyes. It snickered, showing sharp teeth. "Aw! A sableye! These things eat gems and tend to live deep in caves. Its a ghost type pokemon so normal type moves can't touch it. Inversely, it can't touch normal types."Alolan Diglett The next pokeball revealed a little mole-like creature with three little golden hairs. "I love these things! This is an Alolan diglett, a variant form of the Kanto diglett suited for living in Alola. They live in very volcanic regions there... or so I have heard..."The next pokemon came up a red money with an immediate playful streak as it began to rush around the lab, climbing everything in sight. "That's a pansear, a fire-type pokemon. They're full of a lot of energy!"The second to last pokemon revealed another dog, but this one a bright orange and gold. "This is a growlithe. They have often been used by the police due to their bravery and loyalty. I've read that growlithe have stood down pokemon ten times their size to protect their trainer!""Finally," she says as she tosses out the last pokeball to reveal a grey bird, "this is a starly. A bird pokemon native to the region called Sinnoh. More adapted to cold climates, its final evolution is a real force to be reckoned with. This one is sweet, though."She gave a bright smile. "If you need some time, feel free to let me know. We can set you up here at the lab if you need a place to sleep, and I can put all of them on the side so you have time to think or spend time with them... There's no rush!"

'Professor Yew? Dead? But why?' Grey wondered. He wasn't expecting happy news given the gloom of the city, but he certainly wasn't expecting to hear that the region's foremost researcher was- killed. Of course, he hadn't met the Pokemon expert, but he knew at least the basics about her that just about every soul in Deprin new. "Oh, I'm sorry. Losing her is such a loss for the whole region, but I can't imagine what it must be like for all of you who knew her." He couldn't help but feel as though he'd come on a bad day. Nevertheless, he continued walking at the worker's instruction. While she worked the mechanical doohickey, Grey stared blankly with his mind wandering to one word: terrorist. 'What were these terrorists trying to accomplish? Or even... is there something going on behind the scenes at this lab that I should know about?' He took mental note to look into the news once he was out of the lab. But for now, he was brought back to reality by the sound of the worker's voice. One by one, the Pokemon were brought out of their Pokeballs - each of their personalities clear as day. From an adorably clumsy furball to a monkey whose antics Grey know would drive him mad, he weighed his thoughts regarding which Pokemon would be the best to have by his side. However, almost as if by primal, monkey-brained urge, his sight continually gravitated to one Pokemon in particular: the shiny one. Its gemstone eyes reflected the self-grooming Starly and the frantic leaping of the Pansear, almost as if it could see every single thing that was happening around it. Taking steps towards the Sableye, he gestured. "This is a... ghost type? Did it, uh... die or something?" Although the past four years had familiarized him with all sorts of corporeal Pokemon like the countless bumbling Wooloo that wander around Summerhill, he didn't know much about these so-called "ghost types." Regardless of what new information the lab worker would reveal to him about the mysterious Pokemon, he knew that this was the one. "Thanks for the offer on a place to stay!" Grey turned to his new partner. "What do you think? Are you ready to take a walk back to your new home? Or should we stick around for the night?"----------- OOC: I choose Sableye! Whether or not we keep going on this RP is up to you - if you could just have Sableye choose to stay or leave, that'll decide if you and I part ways here or not! I was thinking maybe it could be an opportunity for Grey to shoehorn in some questions about the attack and Team Schism. But that's like a big lore discussion, and I'm not sure if you think that it'd be a topic to expand upon in the future and in another thread. tags: Dew

Day || Clear It was always a wonderful thing to see a person choose their starter pokemon. There was just something... pure about it. The choice was never easy but when it was made, that was it. A special bond that was made between two living things. Such a commitment! Like her and her Ivysaur. She patted the green-blue pokemon on the head, giving a soft smile. The sableye though seemed intent on staying the night, if only to get some rest before the trip back. "I can show you to your room for the night! We also have some food here in the lab for folks that stay. I can whip you up something," she says, waiting for the young man to decide to follow, unless he wanted more time here with his new starter. "I'm afraid it's just me today though," she recalled the other pokemon and returned them to the device. They'd find their trainer one day. "Everyone else took some personal time, of course..."She shakes her head and smiles again. "But! I'll be in the office if you need me or you are ready for some rest! My door is always open!" She did hesitate, unsure if she should leave them alone or give them some time. She wasn't exactly working at her best at the moment, which was a shame but, someone had to. It's what Professor Yew would have wanted. Starter Pokemon Appeared!

Avoiding Grey's question, the Sableye wandered over to a nearby table, picking up a small stack of stapled papers and seemingly... reading it? "Not... a direct response, but I guess that means we'll be sticking around here for the night," Grey told the worker with a smile, observing the reddish-orange sky through a window. "So yeah, a room would be great! I'm all set with food, though - I brought a little snack to hold me over," he said, shrugging his right shoulder as a gesture to his backpack. "But for... Shade here..." he paused, looking towards the Sableye for an indication of approval towards her new name. Shade, never looking up from her stack of reading material, nodded gently. "Well, you wouldn't happen to have some gemstones laying around, would you?" Finally, at the mention of shiny rocks, Shade perked her head up from her papers, looking to Grey, and then to the lab worker. ---------------- OOC: We can wrap this up after Shade does or doesn't get a bite to eat! I'm kinda going with the flow about what feels natural, and it seems like Grey's night will be coming to an end. tags: Dew

Day || Clear She gave a nod. Of course, someone that came all the from Route 4 must be prepared for the trip after all! But Shade's meal was another matter. "Yes! We have a whole bunch of them for the other sableye, too. I'll be sure to outfit you with enough to keep her fed. She can eat regular pokemon food and berries, of course, but gems are their favorite." As she spoke, she got the care package ready with Ivysaur's help. The plant dinosaur grabbed some containers of gems, helping her pour them into a secondary container the lab could part with. "As for your question on if Shade died or not, there is a lot of debate about that in the pokemon community. Our old records state some pokemon, like Phantump, are the departed spirits of children that got lost in the woods. But nothing has been proven of course... as for if Shade had a life before and died, well... that's one of the great mysteries of pokemon." She handed the care package to Grey and smiled. "I'll be in the lab for the rest of the day and then taking to my office. I'm on full shift so, if you or Shade need anything, don't be afraid to come get me!" Her Ivysaur nodded in agreement. They were also here to help, after all. Starter Pokemon Appeared!

The clinking of gems as the lab worker transferred them from one container to another had gotten Shade's attention. Setting down the papers that she had been scanning through, she walked up to the trio, eyes fixed on the care package. "I've gotta say, you're leaving me on quite the cliffhanger about whether this thing's a ghost or not," Grey jokingly remarked to the lab worker, gently poking Shade's ear with his pointer finger. Compared to other Pokemon that he had seen throughout his life, Sableyes seemed particularly human, which was certainly disconcerting when considering that ghost types could have had a previous life. He accepted the care package and stowed it away in his messenger bag, prompting Shade to head back to her stack of papers. "I appreciate all of the help today! When you start hearing my name of the news, you can know that you're entirely responsible for all the havoc that I'm causing," Grey quipped. "But for now, I think I'm done taking up your time! If you could just show us to our room, Shade and I will call it for the night!"---------- OOC: FINISHED Tags: Dew
