The soft rain that pattered the roof of the lab couldn't be heard given the sheer, massive size of the building. But every time the doors to the large building opened, the gentle showers could be heard through the halls until the doors closed again, once more pushing the lab into a silence only filled by the air temperature control units. The lab tech was waiting patiently, leaning against the inner doors that led into the lab proper. For now, they did some work on their tablet with their espurr resting on their shoulder. There was one new trainer due in today for a starter, but given the rain and how things had been in the town given... well, the current events regarding the late Professor Yew... they were happy being as patient as they needed for the new arrival. After, the pokemon weren't going anywhere. Starter Pokemon Appeared!

Of course it would be raining cats and dogs the day he was scheduled to get his starter pokemon. It was doubly expected that he hadn't thought to pack an umbrella. To be fair, he'd been in a bit of a rush to pack at all. It was a wonder he'd even remembered the bare essentials, given what a flurry he had been in after finding out his appointment had been approved. He’d been in a rush to get going and start his journey - an actual journey! - but he’d also been in a mad dash to get out of his family’s sight.
They still didn’t approve, naturally. They weren’t against him getting a pokemon per say, even though none of them had any interest. Their issue was with him deciding to make it his career. Sure, he’d gotten some decent pay for the photos he’d taken near Hickory Town, and they enough that he had managed to get an exclusive deal with the magazine he’d sold them to. However, travelling the land, taking photos of dangerous wild creatures, none of them saw it as an actual profession, and they’d tried to talk him out of it even as he’d been walking out the door.
They just didn’t get why it was so important to him. Hopefully they’d understand one day, but then again that was part of why he was so serious about it. To remind everyone of why people had loved pokemon so long ago.
So, drenched from head to toe, his precious camera safe and sound in his backpack, he finally reached the pokemon lab and stepped inside, taking a moment to wipe his feet. He looked around, before catching sight of the idling lab tech. “Excuse me? My name is Carter Port, I have an appointment to pick up a starter pokemon.” He said with a smile, approaching them. “Sorry, I know I probably look like a drowned rattata.”

Day || Rain They look up as the soaked new-trainer-to-be comes in. They give a tired smile and push off of the wall, their espurr giving a happy meow. "Welcome! You are right on time. Come on to the back and we can get you started, but don't feel in a rush to get back to the rain. You can stay here till it goes." They make their way to the back, their espurr using its psychic powers to keep the doors open as they walk. They walk up to a large device stored to the brim with pokeballs. They click a few buttons and six are dispensed into a container. They pick it up and go lean against a nearby counter, looking at the pokeballs carefully. "Ooookay... let's see here...""This is a Sawk, a fighting-type pokemon," they say as they toss out the first pokemon. A blue pokemon that appears to be wearing a karate-gi appears. They strike a battle-ready position, only to realize that there is no battle here. The pokemon quickly moves to stand in attention, a serious look on their face. "Yeah... they're pretty serious, but good partners out there."They toss out the next one. A small blue pokemon with a tadpole tail and a black swirl on a white stomach pops out, immediately sitting on the ground with a tired yawn. "This is a poliwag. A water-type pokemon. Their evolutions gain arms and they become quite the powerhouse, but it takes some time to reach that level."The third one was tossed out and a black bird appeared, giving a loud caw as it takes off and sits on top of the pokeball machine. "A murkrow. A dark-flying type. They do evolve into a larger version. Benefits of travel with a bird type is they can carry you once they get big enough.""This one is eevee," they say as they toss out the next ball. A brown fox-like pokemon appeared and gave a happy cry. "A very popular pokemon and an oddity among the scientific community. Eevee have a genetic mutation which makes their evolutionary states highly volatile. They can evolve when near stones, certain locations, times of day, other things..." they shrug. "Picking the evolution is the hardest part about them."They tossed out the next one. "This is a happiny. That egg there is actually a stone they like. They're very sensitive pokemon and they evolve into pokemon that can heal you with an actual egg. Very sweet pokemon. Their second-stage were used a lot in Pokemon Centers, I hear.""And finally... a feebas." The released fish flopped helplessly. It was as ugly as sin. "Not strong. Not pretty. But, on the bright side, they evolve into the most beautiful pokemon known to mankind. So far, of course.""If you need some time to think, feel free to take it. We do have some beds set up for guests in a communal area and a washer area with some dryers for your clothes, if needed." They leaned back against the counter, looking back at their tablet while their espurr played with a toy.
