Personality
A quiet, curious, observant, and studious young Pokemon Researcher to-be that can ramble on about trivia about outer space for a solid three hours before running out of things to say. Being a crippling introvert that always got picked last in gym class, Aloe lacks confidence and can be a bit of a pushover and quite awkward in social situations with other humans, but is kind at heart and incredibly passionate about his fields of research of astronomy and Pokemon, and the wellbeing of the few friends he manages to make. While he can be cowardly in the face of danger, Aloe is incredibly open-minded to other ways of thinking as a person of science, and can swallow his fears when in pursuit of understanding and knowledge. He's prone to rambling about his passions given the chance, though he's much too modest to see his own accomplishments as anything to be impressed about. His heart is big and he's a total softie, though this does sometimes make him easy to pick on...
History The Ferhn family are originally migrants from the now long-lost Sinnoh region. Those that were alive before the Rapture were skilled researchers and professors that came to Deprin due to the region's uniquely massive variety of Pokemon in its ecosystem. While they had managed to work up a name for themselves, the Rapture tore them away from their precious partners just like everyone else, and suddenly there was no need for a Pokemon Professor in the world anymore. Generations of struggle and poverty lead some of their stragglers that studied berries and plant-like Pokemon to Summerhill village- their skills transferred somewhat well to the lifestyle of a farmer. Though impoverished and struggling to pull through the winters, they endured.Aloe Liza Ferhn was born nineteen years ago as the only child to a pair of lonely farmers. Having another mouth to feed was a risk with the struggles of everyday life, but their precious child's innocence, wonder, and unconditional love was worth it in their eyes. Aloe was homeschooled, and very studious in his day-to-day studies. While he was very attentive when learning standard things like math, reading, and the like, Aloe was much more interested in his family's many old folders full of research about Pokemon and old tomes full of Sinnoh's legends passed down from generation to generation. Pokemon- these fascinating creatures that came in shapes other than two-legged humanoids- soon became a hyperfixiation for the growing child. Dragons that could fly and breathe fire, ghostly plants, sentient mounds of goop, and hundreds of living things that couldn't breathe oxygen and instead somehow lived underwater their whole lives- they were was as alien as the stars above to Aloe. Where had the Pokemon gone? How was the world still functioning if some of these Pokemon that vanished were gods that governed the laws of reality according to Sinnoh myths? Aloe was far from the first to wonder, but it was hard for him to accept that he would never get any good answers. Still, Aloe grew into a very well-mannered and kind person under his parents' loving tutelage, though a bit of a worrywart and introvert thanks to the fact that he didn't often get the chance to interact with people outside his family. Gardening, reading, and drawing filled up most of his time day-to-day, though eventually he began to become bored by the repetitive monotony of it all. Was he really doomed to live his entire life on a half-filled stomach on a lonely little farm, taunted by a fantastical life with Pokemon he'd missed being born into by a few generations...? Somehow, the answer to that was no. The following morning was filled with birdsong. Inexplicably, Pokemon filled the world once again, leaving the young farmer completely awestruck and for the first time in a long while, filled with passion and hope for his life. Aloe was one of the first in Summerhill to step up and start trying to connect with Pokemon again. It was in his blood, and the young farmer's enthusiasm and friendly nature allowed him to connect with many of the more docile Pokemon with his parents, garnering a few herds of Mareep and even a few Tropius over the years, though his parents were hesitant to completely let him off the leash to have a Pokemon of his own. Aloe would have his chance soon enough though, as while he was going through his nightly chores one evening a year ago, he found something odd in the fields he was tilling- a worn Pokeball was buried deep in the mud. Curious, Aloe carefully scooped it out of the dirt, releasing the Pokemon inside. A small, blueish humanoid popped into existence in front of him, its beady green eyes locked with Aloe's. It froze up in shock, the lights on its hands rapidly flashing as it flinched back, startled. It bolted away before Aloe could say anything, leaving him to wonder what in the world he had just seen. Determined to figure out who he had just met, Aloe began secretly heading out at dark to try and find the little Elgyem, as he later identified it. The poor thing seemed scared, having been cooped up in its Pokeball for gods know how long- he couldn't bare the thought of something happening to it because of his reckless release of it. Encounters with it were few and far between with how quick it was to flee and how good it seemed to be at hiding, though the tell-tale crop circles the creature left in their fields let him know it was still around. In an effort connect with it, Aloe began drawing some of his own patterns in the fields in spots the Elgyem frequented. Months of sparse interaction passed, though sometimes he'd see more drawings appear overnight beside his own, or those beady green eyes staring at him from the tall grass. One fateful evening, Aloe was approached by the strange Pokemon again one night in the middle of drawing a picture of it. The curious little thing watched from a distance at first, but eventually approached when Aloe offered it some snacks, just as curious of him as he was of it. He spent the entire night bonding with the Elgyem, drawing in the dirt and snacking on some of their crops. Perhaps the Pokemon were just as lonely as their human friends during the Rapture, wherever they had been taken... On that night, the Elgyem finally let Aloe return it to its Pokeball. Aloe couldn't possibly stay cooped up in Summerhill forever. He wanted to learn more about his new friend and the rest of the Pokemon in the world. While the thought of Pokemon battles still didn't quite sit right with him, the returning League challenge seemed like the perfect way to explore the region and reconnect with his family's lost legacy by pursuing knowledge about Pokemon like Elgyem. While he had to endure a very, very long lecture the day following Elgyem's recapture when he'd confessed what he'd been doing to his parents about how dangerous his nightly excursions could have been, they eventually agreed to let him free to pursue his newfound passion. Who knew if another Rapture was just waiting to happen- Aloe refused to sit idly and just wait for his new friend to be taken from him. He only has a few days left in Summerhill before departing on his journey to the Pokemon Laborotory to get his Elgyem examined and get himself ready to take on the region, uncertain but excited for what the future has in store for him.
Appearance Aloe is a short, lanky, and pale-skinned researcher who looks like he hasn't spent a day in the sun. He needs glasses to aid with his short-sightedness, which have round lenses and mismatched blue and orange frames. While his combed, chin-length hair is naturally a faded blonde color and flares out at the back, two antennae-like strands that arch up off his forehead are dyed blue and orange respectively, matching the mismatched colors of his glasses' rims. The rookie astronomer’s wardrobe is fairly small, mostly consisting of warm jackets and sweaters, prioritizing comfort over fashion and good looks. Most of his jackets are very old and have sentimental value, along with the worn old shard of meteorite he wears on a necklace. * All art for Aloe used in this app and on my mini-profile is drawn and designed by myself! |
