Mya shined her flashlight into the cave and gave a sigh as another tremor shook the earth. They'd been getting worse and worse recently, making people in town nervous about the integrity of the gym and other buildings. Not that tremors were new to Famine, but they had put a lot of work into rebuilding and actually becoming a community again so there was no reason to risk it now. The wild part was that there was no actual movement of any plates that were being picked up. Whatever was happening was due to pokemon or something breaking apart stone. She had to find out what...
And this seemed like a perfect time to put Muppet's training to the test. It had been hard work getting him to actually listen to her. The constant work at the gym with obedience and resistance. The first thing was the food. Poor thing had been starving for ages and it took a lot to keep him fed. Too much and they'd just cough it all back up, so it was a real test to try and figure out the exact amount they needed and how often. Which turned out to be about thirty pounds every four hours. Once that was settled and Muppet was no longer starving, she had to work on trust. That was hard. She had been knocked around like a rag-doll about twenty times and the current wheeze in her chest was all but a testament to her dedication. Her first snapped rib from the island healed well, but now she had about three more and her chest and abdomen were covered in bruises. Her own gym trainers were worried about her, but once they saw Muppet they seemed to understand.
It was a group effort to get him to stop fighting everything he saw, too. After several weeks she was finally able to get him to actually listen to her before charging to attack every pokemon he saw with the intention of eating them. Eon and Jarn were vital in that work. Regardless of how strong his jaws were, he couldn't break past their shells. Jarn with her solid metal cocoon and Eon with his harder-than-bone casing.
Now, Muppet stood beside her, looking around with those wide eyes as he studied the gave, making small gurgling noises before leaning down to bump her hand. She gave him some scritches along his head, earning the strangest sounding purr. Atlas, however, did not seem pleased with this as he huffed some fire out. He only glared at Muppet, never engaging with him like the rest of the party. It was a big concern for Mya, given she needed them all to work together. At least Eon seemed more engaged, giving a low grumble to Muppet in support as the large shelled dragon began to march his way into the depths of the cave.
Atlas, without order, took a position beside Eon and increased the size of his tail flame, acting as a guide light alongside Mya's flashlight while Arceus' Mistake walked beside her.
Mya looked at the map on her new rotom phone, rather happy with the upgrade. Salve Co. had its problems, but she had to admit this was a nice little addition. And the rotom inside was very friendly! It gave her a full look at the interior of the cave they had managed to map so far -- plus a signal of where the strongest tremors were coming from.
"Alright," she said, her breath with a slight wheeze, "let's tread carefully."

They walked deeper in, Mya stopped short as she looked down at what was supposed to be a path to the right that instead lead right into boiling water. If she didn't die from impact, she would from the hot water turning her into a lobster boil. She watched as the rotom phone updated its map. They kept going, Atlas and Eon leading the way. The caves always smelled odd. There was a mix of sulfur, dirt, and a scent she couldn't describe but it came from the lava melting weaker stone. As if on cue, another tremor as small rocks fell from the ceiling. She glanced up at a worrying crack and clicked her tongue. Atlas rounded and released a strong flamethrower onto the crack, heating up the stone before Eon leveled a Hydro Pump at it, making it seal over. At least they'd have a way out now. Mya watched their work before turning her gaze to Muppet, who was fixated on something in the distance. The strange dragon took a step forward, then another, before letting out a roar and charging over the edge of the cliff. Mya shouted and tried to grab for him, but he was gone, straight into the boiling water. She hissed, expecting to see a boiled body rise, but instead, Muppet swam through the water like it was a pleasant pool, right across to the other side. He let out another roar, and slammed his head into something that shot into the air. A Skarmory! "Arceus damn it!" Mya growled under her breath. "Muppet! Leave it alone!" The pokemon looked back at her from across the chasm before slamming a Metal Claw into him in return. Mya's eyes narrowed as she watched the bird fly away and then round up for another hit. "Protect! Then follow up with Brutal Swing!" She ordered. Muppet looked at her and then at the incoming bird, moving his feet before his eyes glowed, a shield forming around him as the Skarmory hit the force field before a powerful head and even stronger neck slammed into them, sending the bird tumbling into the water. The steel type was fine, rising out quickly. Mya rushed to find a way down, Eon and Atlas acting as her guides as they quickly found a slope towards the water and strong enough stepping stones to leap across. Mya quickly took a great ball out of her bag and slung it as hard as she could at the Skarmory--anything to get Muppet out of this fight! I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service

The great ball slammed into the Skarmory's head and zapped it in before it immediately broke out, eyeing Mya now for attack. The gym leader stood tall as she looked to Atlas and nodded. The Charmeleon rushed forward and released a Flamethrower at the bird, purposely missing by just hair. A warning. The Skarmory shouted in fear at the super effective move before flying off. A heavy sigh escaped Mya as she gave Atlas a pat on the head before leveling her glare at Muppet, who shuffled from foot to foot and looked down in shame. The weird-fin arms pressed together like folding palms.
"Muppet!" She said firmly, but kindly, "You can't be running off that way. While you may be able to take on that water, no one else can and we can get really, really hurt in here, okay? Don't act without an order or unless you have no choice."
The dragon-fish nodded and Mya made her way back to the main route with her team, hopping on the stones and slowly moving up the slope. She had to return Eon as he couldn't make the climb, but as soon as they were back, she let him back out as they kept on marching. This time, her eyes more firmly on Muppet as he had been ordered to walk with the others. Atlas drew back at this, sticking by Mya's side instead.
"You gotta get over it, man," she said as she looked down at him. Atlas made a face and breathed out some embers. "I know, but come on. This is getting ridiculous. He's part of the team now. Don't be like Wormy to Jarn." Atlas crossed his arms, glaring at a rock nearby like it had personally offended him before they continued to move deeper in. Mya looked at the map again and came to a stop. There was no fork in the road here originally. The rotom phone updated the map again.
Mya sighed. "Great... damn mountains..." Another tremor shook the ground. She looked to Eon who made his way to the left, following where the strength of the tremors came from. Mya followed, watching as Muppet looked to her and then followed Eon after getting a nod.
Atlas walked beside her, listening to the wheeze coming from her chest. Each breath in was painful, he knew. His own ribs were healed fine by the Pokemon Center, but Mya didn't have one of those for her to use. Humans took much longer to recover and heal. Atlas was not mad that he had gotten hurt. He was not even mad he had nearly lost a battle. He was mad that Muppet had dared to hurt Mya--even on accident. The pain that was caused made the fire in his chest burn hotter with rage. Yes, Muppet was trying to be better, but he couldn't find it in himself to forgive so easily like Eon could.
The older, larger pokemon had explained everything just like Mya did. Muppet was still young and something was horribly wrong with him. His body was not right, his mind confused and messy. They must be patient. The problem was Atlas didn't want to be patient...
They kept walking, deeper into the mountains.

They stopped at a large chamber with had many holes leading every which way--some large enough to walk down and others barely big enough for the world's smallest Caterpie. Mya looked around and sighed. Nothing here to indicate what was causing all the tremors and they had to go back with something. The teams were ready to help the mountain finish its movements if that's what it would take, but they couldn't act without a reason. As they walked forward, Mya stopped, looking to the side. A Houndour approached with a growl, looking battered and torn from times in the caves. She recognized its breed, given Farrah had one. Cute pokemon for sure, this one was... It charged forward. "Water Gun," she said calmly. Muppet blinked. Hey, he knew that move! He looked at the oncoming puppy and began to power up the move. "Gently, Muppet."He let out a little stream of water on the dog which yelped in pain as his fur became soaked. Muppet looked to Mya and got a nod. "Good!" He gave a hundred-toothed grin. He did good! The large pokemon danced from foot to foot in a weird little shimmy at his success as Mya gave a breathless laugh before kneeling down in front of the puppy. "Hey," she said, "you really think this is a good idea? I got three big ol' pokemon and you look like a runt. So, I want you to strongly consider your options."The Houndour seemed to think before sitting down. Mya took out a small package from her bag and opened it. Muppet began to charge forward and Eon stopped him with his sheer weight, feet moving in the dirt with effort. Mya gave them a look before putting the food on the ground for the Houndour. "I know you're supposed to travel in packs and I don't know what happened. Not gonna guess either. But here's some food. I know you know where water is so..." she put a great ball on the ground. "If you want to come join us, tap that and you'll have plenty of food and rest. If not, don't worry--I'll grab it on my way out if not. I'll know what you choose."She stood up and patted Muppet's nose before motioning for them to continue as the Houndour dug into the food, looking at the great ball while he ate. Mya was not going to stick around for too long, they had a job to do, after all. I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service

Mya heard it click before she was even able to take 3 steps away. She looked back and the food was gone and the great ball wasn't even moving. She picked it up, mumbled soft words of encouragement to the pokemon acclimating to its new temporary home, and put him in her bag before moving on. She'd make sure the puppy would get a nice bed when they got back.
Atlas followed dutifully, making sure to provide Mya with any support she needed on the walk given she didn't have nearly the same balance as her pokemon. Eon continued to lead the way while Muppet trotted on alongside. They had gone pretty deep at this point, the map updating with every twist and turn and already providing a way out of the caverns.
It wasn't long before they had come across another massive chamber, but this one was filled with lava flows. Mya peered down at some of them, feeling the heat coming off. Usually, this would be very dangerous. One needed a suit to get too close to lava in the first place, but it was so far down it was fine. Yet the platform they were walking on was precarious. "Quickly," she said as they kept moving. "Eon, go ahead and Hydro Pump, hm?"
The orb did as told, rolling down the way to the edge of the lava, the heat not bothering him as he let out a blast of powerful water, causing a large portion of the lava river to turn into solid rock. Mya ran across as fast as she could into a cooler chamber, Muppet carefully pumping cold water on her skin the whole way. She scritched under his chin in thanks. "See? You're getting with the program, big guy."
Atlas huffed. He could do that, too! If he knew any water moves...
The next chamber was filled with pools of water. A stark contrast compared to the lava chamber. Mya looked at them, seeing floating pieces of ice and noting the temperature dropping. By all accounts it didn't make any ecological sense, but she did see the ice melting. The caves here had ancient lakes and rivers stored inside of them, some of water, some of lava. When the two got too close you got hot springs.
Another tremor hit, this one even stronger now. Closer. "Okay... Eon, where to now?" The Shelgon gave a nod and continued to lead the way.

They arrived at the source of the tremors. Mya watched as a large wall in the distance broke off from shaking earth as water sprayed out with a force capable of skinning someone alive. It was ice cold from the sheer temperature drop in the room and as more cracks appeared, so did more water. She hummed. "Okay..." She looked at the chamber and the stone work, eyes narrowing. "Atlas, search for pokemon in the area. If they don't want to evacuate, force them." The Charmeleon nodded and set off on the hunt, searching every nook and cranny. "Eon, I want you to focus on the rocks. Where can we break it to get that water out and ease up the pressure without bringing the whole damn cavern down?" Eon nodded and moved closer to the breakage, studying the wall and the ceiling. He made his rounds along the edge of the ever filling pool of water. "And Muppet," she said, the pokemon coming to attention, waiting for an order. "You stay with me."He deflated a bit. "I can't run as fast as all of you," she said, patting his head. "If something happens, I may need you to help me book it out of here, okay? I return Atlas and Eon and we just gun it. I'm counting on you." The Dracovish's eyes lit up and they nodded, snapping their jaws together. She turned her head to a commotion, watching as Atlas chased off a group of pokemon out of the chamber. She tilted her head as she saw one was not moving from behind the rock. Mya motioned for Muppet to follow and she made her way over, shining the flashlight onto another Houndour. They looked scared from the commotion. Mya gave a grunt and looked at where Atlas went. Muppet moved forward with water dripping from the mouth, but she stopped him. "This little one ain't do nothing to us," she said. "Remember how you attacked Atlas without any due reason or cause? We ain't doing that no more." Muppet gave a small growl of understanding and stepped back. She knelt down and looked at the puppy, mindful of the flames licking at its teeth. "Look, there's about to be a lot of water in here, okay? I need you to get on out. Easy way or hard way?"The puppy did not move. Mya blew a raspberry and shrugged off her coat. "Okay. Hard way." She tackled the puppy and wrapped it up quick in her coat, flames spouting from the open end as she ran as fast as she could until she got to the exit route and tossed it out. Sadly, the force at which she released it jostled her bag and a few empty great balls rolled out. The puppy stepped on one while trying to run and got zapped in. Mya clicked her tongue. "Yes or no, I don't care! We'll deal with it later," she said as another cracked formed in the far wall. "Atlas! Finish up!"The Charmeleon called in understanding and finished herding all the pokemon away. She nodded to him and returned him to his pokeball. She looked to Muppet. "I can't go through freezing cold or boiling hot water like you," she said. "Use those legs of yours."She looked over at Eon and the large orb turned and nodded at her. He was ready. Mya nodded back, looking at the mess of pokeballs. Had to clean that up first. "Give me a second!" I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service
