"If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy." -Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men Mama said it was okay, that it was quite alright
Tired didn't even begin to describe how Mya felt. The gym was busy, the Famine mountains were active again, and clearing out that chamber of water to make the tremors calm down had done... something to Eon. Her precious starter was not with her for once. He was at home, under the watchful care of her gym trainers, while the giant Shelgon grew even.... bigger. It didn't seem natural or normal for him and it went against the pokedex. His shell was cracking more and more every day and he seemed to be feverish. So, by the time she had left, he was covered in ice bags and sitting in a large tub of ice trying to keep cool. Mya was worried, but she had faith in her dragons. After all, the Pokemon Center nurses said Eon was fine. He was just approaching his evolution. They wanted everyone to be careful, saying that the shell would explode when he evolved--so Mya had him put into a sturdy chamber at the gym to keep everyone (and Eon) safe. Wormy was tasked with also keeping watch, to alert the gym trainers if anything happened. He was even getting along with Járnsaxa! A surprise, but perhaps the situation called for a little teamwork. So, she was out today, Atlas dutifully at her side with his incredibly calming presence. She also had Domino the Dreepy--obtained from that nightmare island--and Vulcan, the vicious little Axew. Mya watched Vulcan run around, chasing Domino as the two played in the cool fall air, playing a game of tag. The Axew had grown a bit larger since their visit to the island. His fangs were a little longer, a little tougher. His scales looking a bit shinier and harder, too. And Domino was... Domino. The ghost type flew through Mya, causing the woman to shiver despite her heavy, iconic jacket on her shoulders. "Hey!" She said, the tough tone making her pokemon stop. "Don't fly through people! Feels weird." Domino gave a small cry of apology, a little nod of understanding, and she and Vulcan continued their game. Atlas gave a small little growl of contentment from where he sat on the ground, right by Mya's ankles, enjoying the nice day. And clutched in his claws was the egg case, the occupant still very still but with a wiggle every once in a while. He looked up at Mya, the trainer checking her phone. It had been a long time since she had seen some old childhood friends of hers and for a good reason! Mya had traveled with her family's caravan since she was born, having gone to various cities and routes with them, doing what she could for the family. But when she got older, she stayed behind in Famine more and more, aiming to help the people there. When pokemon came back, that got a whole lot easier and now with the gym and all things were finally making some progress for the old, forgotten town. But that was why today was good! Meeting up with an old buddy from a different caravan was sure to be interesting. And at the newest park in the region to boot! Mya glanced at the entrance from her spot by a shady tree. It was supposed to be filled with rides, games, shows, and good food. That was also why she brought some of her newer--and younger--pokemon with her. Plus Atlas, the babysitter. "When Ashe gets here I expect everyone to behave," Mya announced to her rambunctious pokemon, not bothering to even deliver the message to Atlas. Domino and Vulcan gave nods and ran over to Mya, continuing their game around her legs. She sighed. Pokemon were great, but a handful sometimes.

Traveling to the newest park and attraction in the Deprin Region wasn't a short journey. It wasn't terribly long, not really, but certainly not short. For Ashe, it was loading up her wagon to go, so she had a nice space to curl up after all the festivities were through. Gathering her things, and her trusty pokemon, Lemondrop, and making her way north. "Come on, Lemondrop! We're going to be late to meet Mya. You'll love her, she even has some Dragon types with her. I haven't seen her in *ages*," Ash said, whirling around to settle everything in to the parking/camping area she parked her wagon. " trill chirrup treeee" Trilled Lemondrop, zooming around her trainer's feet in excitement. "I know! Let's go find her, and if that doesn't work I'll text her. Though I think that might be her under the tree over there." they say, walking towards the figure underneath the tree with the adorable Dreepy and Axew playing tag around her feet. "Mya? Is that you? I haven't seen you in forever!" she says, coming to a stop in front of her old friend. "This is Lemondrop, my mischievous companion who likes to zoom around and move my plushies." Lemondrop, to prove they are exactly what they say, drops a plushie Gibble at the feet of the Charmeleon with the egg. " trilllllllll chirrrr" "I...suppose they can have it? Thanks for asking," Ashe says, facepalming from the mischievous mimikyu grabbing one of her new patchwork stuffies. "I honestly don't even want to know where you have been keeping that...I am so sorry, Mya, we are working on Lemondrop's mischief." Lemondrop the Mimikyu level 1

Mya looked up at the voice and smiled, taking her hands out of her pockets and crossed her arms as she watched Ashe approach. "Hey, Ashe! It's been forever!" Mya pushed off of the tree and and offered a very gentle shoulder punch of hello. Her eyes shot down to the Mimikyu, memories of catching one of her own coming back to her. That thing... hated her. And for good reason. After some research, Mya had learned you weren't supposed to see under that cloth and... well... turned out aiming the pokeball at the head of what you thought was a human ghost to try and kill it wasn't a great idea when it was a pokemon. But she wasn't dead! Yet. That was something!
Mya knelt down to look at the Mimikyu, as if sizing them up, before giving a sharp-toothed grin. "Hey, Lemondrop! Pleasure to meet you." She watched the ghost fairy take the stuffie out of... somewhere and put it in front of Atlas and the egg. The Charmeleon growled a polite thank you before picking it up, admiring the work, and carefully--so carefully--opening the egg case to put it in with the unhatched pokemon. Atlas closed the case back and seemed very pleased with his idea. Mya stood back up and looked at Ashe. "I can get that back for you, if you want."
"Don't worry about it! I've got my own mischievous pokemon," she said with a thumb point over at Domino who was zooming in and out of the tree. She clicked her tongue and her dragons came to attention minus Atlas who was contently sitting down, but he did turn his gaze to Mya and gave a smile. "Chaaaar~" She pointed to each pokemon in turn. "This is Vulcan, an Axew. This is Domino, a Dreepy. And finally Atlas, Charmeleon."
Vulcan put his hands on his hips and tried to look very fierce during the introduction. Domino zipped around at mach 4 before settling down around Mya's neck. Their trainer shrugged. "They needed to get out of the gym for a bit so... anyway! A Mimikyu! Did you get 'em at the lab or-?"
It was a point of shame for Mya to not have kept in as good of contact as she should have. But in her defense, things had gotten very busy four years ago when pokemon first returned to the region. And things just kept happening and happening and now she was... well... the responsibility was a lot. But she was trying to be better about making time for her friends. After her visit with Arris and that trip to the island it had become clear how isolated Mya had accidentally made herself. Baby steps!

Ashe returns the fistbump to the shoulder with equal force, "I missed you, but I know things have been crazy since pokemon returned. I hear the gym is doing well in Famine?" she asks, desperate to catch up with one of her oldest friends.
As Mya leans down to say hello to Lemondrop, the pokemon leans up to say hello herself. She knows it's important to make friends, and so long as she doesn't touch her well tended covering she will play nice. She even snuck one of the new dragon plushies for the visiting pokefriends. And if it keeps the egg warm and helps it evolve into something sweet and fierce and kind, well...she will take credit in the only ways she can.
"Don't worry about it! I was going to offer to let them pick their own, but someone," at this she gives a fond look of disgruntlement down at Lemondrop, who is investigating Atlas and the egg, "decided to take things into her own claws. I have a whole batch of them in the wagon, if you want to look later?"
After being introduced to the cutest dragon types that ever did cute, Ashe bends down to shake 'hands' with the Axew and Charmeleon. "It's a pleasure to meet you Vulcan and Atlas. This is Lemondrop, and she is *mostly* harmless. Just don't try to peak under her cloth and you'll be fine." They stand up, and wave hello to the Dreepy curled around Mya's neck. "Hello, Domino. It's nice to meet you, too. I hear Dreepy are quite the mischievous scamps too, and I'm sure you and Lemondrop will get along well. Just don't give her any tips on scaring me anymore...she does that well enough on her own!" Ashe laughs, and looks back at Mya. "I'm sure you have plenty of stories of being spooked by your trio of cuties. This little gerblin was my inheritance from Grandmere. The family all say hello, by the way. Ashdynn mentioned coming to see you at the gym later this month, to test out his Mawile's strength. I think he named him Mawwy, but with Dynn you never know."
Talking about her family, and her twin, make them a little nostalgic. Knowing that they haven't been able to be in the same room, much less town, since pokemon came back is even harder to think on. The rift between the family has only grown wider with Ashe choosing the profession she has, as being a traveling plushie seller with a side business of making old tinctures and teas and healing things. They wanted her to take over the caravan trail, leading it with pokemon built for travel. She just wanted to keep small and travel with her trusty Lemondrop, and whatever other friends she makes along the way. They shake their head, focusing back on Mya. Her friend deserves nothing but her full attention, minus the eye she has to keep on Lemondrop of course.
"So what do you say we go play some faire games, stir up some competition like old times sake. For every time you win, I'll tell you a different story about how things have gone, and every time I win you do the same? Just to make it interesting." Ashe offers, turning a little towards the park, and the Halloween themed goodies. "If you win enough, I might even make you a custom gym plushie to have as a soft mascot...if you want?" They nervously scuff their feet on the ground, hoping to get to spend more time with Mya and hear some of their exploits over games and rides and food.

She gave a proud nod, putting her hands in her pockets as she watched her pokemon carefully. Atlas... Mya didn't need to worry about, but Vulcan was still learning his own strength. But the Axew had given a very nice, firm little handshake while Atlas' was very dainty. "Been going great! Finally breathing some life in the old town..." Mya sighed. "It was awful for a long time, people fighting over food. That's why I stopped traveling with the family. I had to be there to help my town. But things are doing much better with the money the gym's bringing in! We'll be back on the map before you know it!" It was true, Mya was no stranger talking about how rough life in Famine was. They had been abandoned by the rest of the region after the Rapture. Left to starve. How could she travel with her well-off family when her people were suffering? It just wasn't right. But her parents had supported her in her decision.
"Sure! I'd love to take a look at your crafts. I remember how awesome you were at them when we were kids, I can't wait to see how much you have improved," she said, making a note to be careful of the Mimikyu's coat. At least Lemondrop seemed to be a perfectly respectable pokemon, if not a bit playful! "She loves to play games," Mya said, looking at Domino. "But she will be on her best behavior today, yes?" The Dreepy nodded. While playing and games was fine, Mya took discipline among her team seriously. She was kind, but strict. Especially if any of them wanted to be like Atlas and battle in gym matches. They had to prove they would listen. If anything, today was a test. But the Dreepy soon copied Mya and turned her attention to Ashe as well, listening intently. Or pretending to, Mya was listening. The Dreepy's eyes soon wandered off as she slipped off of Mya's neck and towards a corn dog stand outside the park. Just... a little treat.
"Get back here," Mya said before Domino had gone too far. The Dreepy slunk back. "We'll eat inside." Mya looked back at Ashe and smiled. "Domino? Yes. She has scared me before. And a Mimikyu of my own. Remind me to tell you the story and... maybe see if you can help me get 'em to stop trying to kill me. I gotta keep 'em locked in their ball for now...." Dragons? No problem at all with discipline. Fairy types? Now you lost her.
"Please let them know I miss them, too, and tell Dynn I'll melt that Mawile down into spare parts." She looked to Atlas. "Won't we?" The fire type gave a little "chaaaar~" back at her. Fairy/steel? Yeah, he could do that. That was why Atlas was Mya's ace in the hole. No one expected a Charmeleon in the dragon gym, and even if they did he was hard to plan for. If someone had a water or rock type she'd just send Eon and Wormy out for the battle. Given their pure dragon typing she didn't have to worry about them.
Sea foam eyes softened as Mya wrapped her arm around Ashe's shoulder and began to lead the group to the park entrance. "You got it," she said as they walked, eager to hear all about what had been going on for all these years. "And fuck yeah we'd take a gym mascot! I'd proudly display your work at the front of the gym entrance, too. Name plate and everything! I know Susan--one of my gym trainers--would love to have one, too. She's all about that kinda stuff..." she looked at her team, specifically Vulcan and Domino's eyes as they lit up. "And yes... if Ashe allows it and wants to show you all her work, then you can maybe have one if she agrees. But if I smell even a hint of trouble today you can forget it." The two dragons nodded. Atlas marched along, the egg case slung over his shoulder and at his side like a messenger bag.
Mya paid the fare for them and looked around with a whistle. "Busy place... so! Where to first? Want to grab some food, do some games, or ride some rides? Park's our oyster!"

Shaking hands with Mya's dragons was a little like shaking hands with a storm. One was calm as gentle, like a summer rain storm. The other was like shaking hands with a winter blizzard, sharp and brusque, but still full of wonder and solid strength.
"I am so happy the town is getting new life. I worried for a bit, and thought I was going to have to ask Mom to divert to y'all with some supplies. I know, I know, Famine doesn't take hand outs. It would have been a loan or something...if need be, we can send some food based goodies up. But! That is too serious for faire grounds!" Ashe rambles, walking towards the entrance. They protest a little at Mya paying the entrance fee, but promise themselves to buy everyone dinner. It might only be corndogs, but still...it'll count. Fair is fair, and that is how she lives her life. What happened to Famine, what happened to Toploss, none of it was fair and as such is anathema to her. If she can fix it, she will...but not today. Today is for fun and catching up with Mya and her babies.
"I would love to show you! I've gotten a little better, and my patchwork series is gaining a lot of traction! We can go back tot he wagon later, and I even have enough room for you to stay over if you like? I still have the hammocks, and several pokebeds for the cuties. Why don't we start with a game on the way to the food stands, and have that as our goal? Maybe just hit what is on the way. It seems like Domino might be a bit hungry for corndogs. Oh! Food is on me, since you got the entrance fee, so nyh," Ashe tells Mya, bouncing a little when talking about her work. She has come so far, and is super proud of herself for all she's accomplished. "Over dinner, we can talk about the mascot and what y'all would want. I've got damn near all the pokemon I know of in mini, and enough fabric to make a massive one. Big enough for the big big dragons to cuddle sometimes, and hopefully as durable." they say, walking slowly towards where the food is, keeping an eye out for a competitive game or two along the way.
"You have a mimikyu? I can see you with all your dragons, but a mimikyu seems a little...dainty? Then again, no judgement. I would love to hear the story, and see if I can talk it 'round so it wont try and merc you in your sleep. Lemondrop can help too. They get along with most any pokemon, so far at least, and can sing to it to calm it down. Don't ask me why, but all those old caravan songs seem to help calm pokemon down, and Lemondrop loves them. You'll prolly hear them...well, now I suppose," Ash says, turning back to Lemondrop, who is crooning to Atlas and Vulcan, and the egg Atlas holds.
"Chirrup treeee chirr trill chrrrrr" Lemondrop croons, swaying and half twirling around the dragon types. She knows talking to eggs help them hatch strong, or it used to. She also knows that trilling helps put other pokemon at ease, and she really wants to be friends with the charmeleon and axew.
"I'll let Dynn know, and the rest of them. We have a group text, though it is more active on their end than mine...but he'll be ecstatic. Hell, he'll probably end up bringing his fiance with him, he's showing him off everywhere." they huff out the last bit, exasperated with her twin's exuberance over Damilan. "But yes, everyone can have a pokestuffie, so long as you mind Mya and she agrees. Even Atlas can have another that is just for him. Now, lets see...I see a Ducklett Shot and Sharpedo Race right before the food stalls. You pick first game, then food and games...we can do rides last, to hopefully let the lines die down a litte?" they ask, wanting to make sure Mya has fun and chills for a little bit. Word out of Famine is that the gym has been busier than ever, and she wants her friend to have a nice mini vacay.

"If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy." -Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men Mama said it was okay, that it was quite alright
Mya shrugged and smiled. "We'll never say no to a free place to sleep!" The boundless energy of her friend may seem off to some on the outside with someone less energetic as Mya, but the woman appreciated it. It was difficult for her to let herself loose sometimes and have a fun time, which was why Mya was so happy to see Ashe again. That genuine kindness and compassion, it was refreshing.
"I appreciate the thought, but you're right. Famine doesn't take hand-outs, but we've relaxed a bit about that... with pokemon being back, we're learning how to better accept help from the outside. It matters where it comes from, of course, but we're a lot more chill than we were," she chuckled. "We have actual farms now, so! We'll be okay. You're always welcome to come sell your wares, too!"
She hummed at the plan. Games, food, whatever it is they came across they'd do. Sounded good, but she soon let out a heavy sigh. "I thought it was a ghost," Mya lamented. "Like, not a ghost pokemon, a real ghost. So I hucked a luxury ball at it and accidentally knocked what I thought was the head but wasn't and then I may or may not have seen what's under that hood. Since then it's coat thing has been damaged and it's hated me." She blew a raspberry. Atlas nodded at the story while Vulcan responded to the coos with little pleasant growls of his own.
Domino floated off to the closest game on the way. A balloon pop game! Mya budged Ashe's arm with her elbow and walked over to the game, paying a small fee to get some darts. "Guess this is the first one!" She looked at the darts then at the balloons, sticking her tongue out as she aimed and tossed the first one.
It popped a balloon! Domino gave a small cheer, but bumped Mya's head a bit too hard on her next throw, making the dart fall next to a balloon instead. "Ey, some space, please," Mya said as Domino put her fins in front of her face in embarrassment. Mya tossed the last three, popping two more balloons. Not a great prize, but her skills were with throwing heavier things than darts. They were a little too.... dainty. But she happily took a small, ugly looking Pikachu stuffed animal as a prize, handing it off to Domino who cheered and trilled.
"'Aight, Ashe! Let's see if you can beat three popped balloons!"
