Night crept into darkness, the sky glittering with stars, dark as ink… and cut sharp by dim lanterns and candles, some watching with eyes glittering with ghost-type mischief, and the shining incandescent orange and gold bulbs lighting the sprawling pathways of the brand new marvels of Sol-Lune Park. Halloween was in full swing, and things could not be spookier — nor more fun! Screams of terror echoed from the House of Horrors, and screams of joy from the spiraling coasters and the Dragonite Divebomb drop-tower. The park's mascots, Solrock and Lunatone, were floating around and interacting with guests alongside costumed actors, and the scent of deep-fried treats, cooking smoke, and the unmistakable smell of freshly popped buttery popcorn combined with the low earthy scents of straw, dust, and fog machine smoke to really give that spooky autumn feeling of fair and festival, but something more.
There were a myriad of rides, and a myriad of people and Pokemon, wild and tame for both; but none was more popular to all than the titular beast of the Hallows' Eve spirit. The Sol-Lune Park Hedge Maze. Towering through thick fog in the grassy green that was normally home to picnics and outdoor shows, the massive hedge maze, eight feet tall and two feet thick at every turn, was the star of the show. Shadows crept long along the ground, corn stalks winding like reaching hands, the plants a rich green and gold, littered with cobwebs, nooks and crannies, and lit dimly by flickering lantern light. Some said it was like a Mystery Dungeon — that the interior changed with each pass through it. Others said that was poppycock. But all agreed that the maze was a delight that none could dare skip… and after a short wait, it's time to see what the fuss was all about!
With ticket delivered to the attendant at the front and a quick run-down of the rules it was time to begin! At the very front of the maze was a large sign as well:
Remember!
The Pokemon of Sol-Lune Park are friends, not enemies!

"If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy." -Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men Mama said it was okay, that it was quite alright
The park was a blast when Mya had come earlier, but after relieving Atlas of his babysitting duties and letting him and Vulcan rest back at the hotel, Mya was ready to tackle the park again with some new additions. They played some games, got some good food, and enjoyed the pokemon costume contest that they did not win.
Domino, who had worn a top hat and bow tie, was less put out at her lack of a prize, but Muppet was devastated. His pizza costume covered his front, his face poking out through a whole. He held a turkey leg in his strange fin-arms and nibbled sadly as they walked. Mya, though, was not in costume. Instead she had a baby-carrier strapped to her and on the front was the egg and on the back was the one, the only, Járnsaxa. The Pupitar had grown much larger with her diet of dirt, having been busy helping the rescue team dig out more tunnels. She was about 80 pounds on Mya's back but eh, what else was new? She was fine.
Now, they were at the maze entrance. Mya took off her sunglasses as the bright lights of the main park faded and it was a lot more durable here. The constant movements and sounds overwhelmed her senses easily, but her pokemon were happy so...
"Hey," she said to Muppet. "We'll do the maze and then go steal a prize, alright?" The Dracovish ave a nod, taking another bite out of his turkey leg. Mya took a beat, looked at the egg, and then said, "Stealing is wrong. Unless I'm the one doing it, then its cool."
She handed the ticket to the clerk and stepped into the maze, surveying her first choice(s). Oh... this brought back so many memories.

The attendants couldn't help themselves — they had to coo over Muppet and Domino. What a precious dapper little ghost — but oh, even moreso, the giant pizza slice — what a charmer! A lad! A delicious precious morsel! And then the team is sent on their way as their turn arrived with bright grins and hopes for good luck. Ticket taken, ticket spent, let's go!
The lights were far more dim once the team entered the maze itself. Gone were the flashing lights of game booths, the neon lines and incandescent bulbs of rides and signs flashing for new attractions. Instead, flickering candle lanterns swayed in a soft breeze, the only light in long pathways cast into the darkness of night. The shadows of the tall maze walls were imposing like fortress walls, begging to be breached but threatening to be impenetrable.
But that was what dragons did, wasn't it? Taking over the kingdom? This kingdom just happens to be made of leaves, darkness, and lots of low rolling fog!
The maze started immediately with a number of choices. Each sloped off into the darkness, difficult to discern where they might lead. Footprints in the dirt and dust on the ground seemed to go in every direction — even including ones they shouldn't — which gave no information as to which path was the preferred one.
A path to the left.
A path straight ahead.
And a path to the right.
So many possibilities, and all the time of the night in the world to take on the viridian labyrinth. Oh, what fun! So which will it be?

Perhaps the oddness of this maze would have made anyone else do a double take and think about the nature of the region, of pokemon, people, maybe even mazes and hedges in general. But this was no ordinary person. This was Mya. And she simply didn't give a shit either way. To her, a maze was something to walk through and eventually stumble out of. Járnsaxa, though, noticed the strangeness. Sharp eyes studied the hedges, the footprints, and the walls of this maze. Something was not correct here... but the Pupitar had no arms and therefore was in no real position to poke further at this mystery.
She sat back for the ride as Mya looked at Domino and Muppet. The two were in deep deliberation... too much deliberation. The seconds ticked by and Mya could feel her life slipping away from her. She stared at the two pokemon who were in a fierce debate about which way to go and, not wanting to wait any longer, the gym leader walked to the right.
It took only a few seconds before Domino and Muppet realized they were left behind and they quickly chased after her. Járnsaxa gave them both a grumble. Mya was not one to waste time, something they would learn very quickly. Choices had to be made fast when in a gym battle as well, there was no time to deliberate, so they had to speed it up! If they ever wanted to call themselves gym pokemon... not all of Mya's pokemon had such a privileged. Even Járnsaxa had done a few battles, but she was on Eating Duty until more tunnels were made so... well.
Either way, onward they go!
To the right!

A turn to the right led to … well. Another choice! The path followed was shorter, along the swaying lantern light paving patterns into the fog. Soon enough, it led to another split in the road. This time, it was only two choices — another chance to deliberate, another chance to come to a concise decision… and another chance to make a discovery!
The path ahead disappears into darkness relatively quickly, the fog settling higher like a mysterious shifting passage, strange shapes swaying and moving in the distance. To the left, there was little more visibility, a lantern slowly swinging back and forth on an arched hook. The leaves rustle, a soft wind echoes through the pathways… and choice beckons.
To continue ahead…?
Or to turn left…?
The temptation lies in two ways… and the maze gives away no secrets. But how could it? A maze cannot talk — it has no mouth, no words, no manner of speech. …Right?

The group walked, Muppet sticking closer to Mya and Jarn as they continued, looking like a rather nervous slice of pizza as they went deeper and deeper. Muppet was tall and towering for a pokemon, but he couldn't see over the walls. What if something attacked them? Or someone came out with needles or shockers or...? He looked to Mya and gave a soft grumble. She reached out and gave his nozzle a gentle pat of comfort. No, she wouldn't let anything happen to him! Neither would Jarn or his sister-in-the-lab Domino.
The ghost flew ahead authoritatively, giving a happy purr when Mya followed. The maze sure was fun when Domino got to call the shots! Or, when she imaged she did. This was the way Mya was going anyway. It wasn't that she didn't want her pokemon to have fun, but she didn't have forever to spend!
Mya sniffed the air and looked down at the egg, making sure it was all cozy in its harness before she looked at the maze walls. "Man, Atlas would burn these things to a crisp," she said. "I don't think there's been rain in this area for a while now..."
Ah, humans and their whole 'hasn't rained in a while / we really needed that rain!' chatter. Jarn looked at the hedges and narrowed her eyes. Lack of rain was not the problem here, nor the night sky or the heavy fog. No, there was something else at play. Alas, she had to legs and therefore could not investigate on her own. So in the baby bjorn she stayed.
Going Straight!
