The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Afternoon || Clear || No Battles || Mya "Rainbow" Saller & Sebastian Aldenberg
"Come on, charge or something!" Mya says, staring back at her new Bagon's eyes, staring at her in a mix of what she could suppose is either annoyance, confusion or both. It made sense that she didn't know how to communicate to this thing.... Pokemon had been gone for so long and this thing was, technically, older than she was. By an entire lifetime. But one thing Mya knew was that Pokemon could use "moves". Special skills and abilities. The issue was, she didn't know how to get her new Bagon to do that. "Um.... bite something? Use those teeth!"
Eon, the name she had given the little blue creature with a.... helmet? stared at her some more, letting out a yawn before sitting on the ground. Mya let out a deep sigh, putting her hands on her hips. This was going to be much harder than she thought. "I know you aren't useless and I know you can understand me.... maybe? Sort of?"
They had taken to practicing in a small area provided by the lab. An old arena once used eighty years ago. She was alone here. It was quiet. It was lonely. But she had her Pokemon. And he had her, she supposed.
Her shoulders dropping, Mya sat in front of the little Pokemon, smiling when it gave her a small little grin and waved its stubby little arms. "Useless or not, you are rather cute, aren't you? I wish I could find some way to make you do something. Aren't you things supposed to like... battle and stuff? That's what I heard from those old coots anyway."

If there was one thing that Seb knew, it was that he'd given himself a hard job. Sneasel were notoriously... Sneasel. They were hard to work with, did what they wanted, and were usually aggressive. Why had he done it?
He wasn't sure himself.
Sebastian had been making his way to one of the lab's safe areas to get some bonding time in with his new pokemon, he should name her soon, when he heard someone talking. He moved a bit closer, one hand on his chest where the ball was tucked into his jacket, and looked into the room.
"A Bagon... The rock head pokemon..." he mumbled to himself, looking in. That girl... she was in for a rough time, even if she looked like she could handle herself. Bagon were famously hardheaded, or at least they used to be from what he knew. She had her work set out for her.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Perhaps it would be better if they took a break for the day. Trying to understand Pokemon when they were something so new to her was... difficult. Or she needed help. Expert help. Yet Professor Yew was probably already busy with someone else. Mya would have given up, if it hadn't been for Eon letting out a cry and looking at something. Mya turned her head to glance over her shoulder, spotting a young man. Skinny. With glasses.
A nerd.
Mya stood up and turned to face him. "Hey! You!" She called, her voice stern. "You know stuff about Pokemon?" Quick and to the point. Mya didn't have time to play games. Eon seemed to react to her speaking and began to make his own sort of calls. She jabbed a thumb at Eon. "Cause I could use some help."

As soon as she'd spotted him it was all over. He yelped and jumped, heart leaping out of his chest as he immediately grabbed for the simple necklace at his throat, hand closing around the charm at the end of it for comfort. "U-u-uhm... Yeah... I-I know things about pokemon..." He said, hesitantly stepping into the room fully. Oh Arceus damn it why had she noticed him?
"Y-you need help...?" He asked. Well of course she did, she wouldn't have said it otherwise. And she was dealing with a rather difficult pokemon, so it made sense. Maybe she'd be willing to help with his own pokemon so he could work with her ... no that was foolish, just focus on her Bagon. He'd never seen a pokemon up close, so honestly this was rather terrifying. Especially considering that if it started wanting to fly it'd probably just headbutt him...

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Mya studied this.... nerd, carefully. Seemed shaky. Nervous. Right. A delicate approach was required. "Yeah. Help me figure out what this little guy can do." She said gruffly. Perfect. She looked down to Eon. "He's sweet, so don't worry about him doing you any harm. I just can't figure out his... what are they called? Moves? Abilities?" She looked back up at the nerd.
"I'm Mya, but you can call me Rainbow if that suits you. This is Eon. I just got him, uh," Mya checked her watch as she hummed, "about thirty minutes ago." Eon gave a cry of either pride or hello, Mya couldn't tell.
The bagon walked up to the stranger and gave another happy call. "Bagon!" he said with a wave of his little paws. Mya chuckled under her breath. This little Pokemon may not be scary or strong, but at least he was cute.

He looked from Mya to Eon quietly for a moment. "I'm Sebastian..." he said quietly after a moment, before he looked down at the Bagon again. He managed a small smile. Ok, seemed friendly enough he supposed. And she was just asking for textbook knowledge, so he supposed it shouldn't be too hard. Seb knelt cautiously to get a better look at the little guy. "He probably knows Rage. That's one of the first moves a Bagon learns." he said, thinking. "I'm not sure if he'll know any other moves, but Rage would be a good place to start I guess. It's a good move to start with I suppose. Every time he attacks, he gets a little stronger, but he's kinda locked into using Rage until he either faints, or your opponent uses something like Disable." He said, as he gave the pokemon another tiny smile.
"You're a cute little guy. Hard to imagine that you grow up to be a Salamence." he mumbled to himself. "Mine'll just be sharper and faster."

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Mya nodded when she got a name, staying silent as she let Sebastian look over Eon. She listened intently. Rage...? Sounded like a powerful move, but how could a Pokemon that was so mild mannered Rage? She hadn't even seen Eon get mad, even when she poked him all over or tried to see what made him tick. If anything, he seemed more hungry and sleepy than anything else. She had shared some of the food she had packed with Eon and that seemed to win her some points but still...
"Rage, huh?" Mya chewed on the inside of her lip. "Using that move won't hurt him, will it?" Yeah, sure, Pokemon were sometimes battled in the past, but that didn't mean she wanted to see Eon get hurt.
Eon seemed to be loving the attention. He gave a small cry and moved closer to Sebastian, waving his little paws in the air. Eon then plopped on down, sitting with a seemingly goofy smile. Mya sighed. At least Eon was calm. She could thank herself for that.
Her ears perked up when Sebastian began to mumble to himself, although she didn't catch much of it. "Do you have any advice on how to take care of him?"

Sebby shook his head. "The move itself won't hurt him, but other pokemon might. but that's what pokemon centers are for." He paused and chuckled when the pokemon sat down. Ok, Eon was definitely really cute. That was at least relaxing. And he had such a mellow attitude! She'd definitely gotten lucky with this little guy. "As for taking care of him... Make sure he has plenty of food and water. Especially when he evolves, he'll need a lot of food. Don't worry about if he headbutts things, his head is harder than steel, so it won't hurt him. Just... make sure he doesn't jump off any cliffs. It's perfectly Normal... however it could also be a little much considering how young he seems to be." He said calmly, as if jumping off cliffs was a normal part of every day society.
"With most Bagon I'd say be careful because they're usually kinda... troublesome. But this little guy seems too sweet to cause too much trouble."

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Her eyes widened. "Jumping off of what?" She said, perhaps a little too forcefully. "Why would he try to jump off a cliff!? How is that normal!?" She felt her heart race and her palms get a little sweaty. She looked to Eon as if he was jumping off a cliff at this exact moment. Why in the world would a Pokemon do such a thing!? She took in a breath.... "Thanks for the warning...."
But troublesome? How? Had she just struck the lottery with a calm and patient Pokemon that didn't seem too bothered by anything? Maybe so... Maybe it was for the best. Eon seemed perfectly fine with the attention and with a stranger, although every now and then he glanced up at her the moment her voice changed tone or she seemed distressed. He was a smart little guy.... were all Pokemon smart?
"Does he understand everything we say or is it like.... general idea?" She said it more to herself but... well, she kinda needed to know. She didn't want to talk to Eon like a child if he could understand her fairly well.

Seb thought for a moment. "Well, Bagon used to jump off cliffs for 'flying practice'. It's perfectly safe, they normally land on their heads. That takes away most of the damage. But it still hurts, and I'm not sure how hard his head is yet. And they can... kinda understand us? it's unsure, but they would respond to vocal commands to use moves during a battle in the past, and they respond well enough to voices usually. They're pretty smart." the more Sebby talked about pokemon the calmer he seemed to get. "It's that right little guy?" he asked her pokemon, giving the Bagon a smile. He was much more at ease with her pokemon than his own, but maybe that's cause hers hadn't immediately climbed him and poked holes in his clothes and skin. Not that she'd meant to, probably, but still. "But different pokemon have different understandings depending on how old they are and such as far as I know. Since most of the pokemon being let out are babies or pretty young it's hard to say."

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me She listened intently to Sebastian's words. So, if it came to a battle, she could help Eon to use that move? Rage? Maybe he would learn more over time... but now that she had a phone she could look more information up, figure out what to do. Maybe that's what trainers used to do, help the Pokemon battle by figuring out the best move to move... the best place to go on the field. Huh.
Eon responded to Sebastian's words with a happy cry and waving his little arms around. He gave a large smile to the human above him before looking back to Mya, getting a small one in return. The bagon was content.
"So, what about you? Do you have a Pokemon?" she asked him, taking her eyes away from Eon and back to Sebastian. "I mean, you seem to know a lot about them and all."

"Ah... Yeah, I have a pokemon..." He said after a moment, rubbing the back of his neck. "But all of what I know about them is from my textbooks and studies... it's not that impressive..." He mumbled that slightly, and Seb's eyes turned downcast.
Sebastian did, however, return the Bagon's smile. Eon was a good pokemon, he could tell. This little guy would do great things. Admittedly, he was heavily doubting his own choice in pokemon, but there was no going back, and she would be at least a good pokemon to be able to handle the snow as well as the forest. She was a good choice for where he wanted to investigate and research. But that didn't mean he couldn't doubt what he was doing.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Mya snorted. "Not impressive? Are you shitting me?" She said in her usual gruff voice. She points to Eon. "I didn't even know what Eon was until I talked to the professor. I didn't know anything about him. Then in you waltz, spouting all this smart person business, and you say it isn't impressive?" She puts her hands on her hips, eyes narrowing. "Don't doubt your own skills and talents so easily. Pokemon haven't been around for eighty years and you know a lot about them already. I think you are doing pretty damn good. Am I making myself clear?"Eon, watching Mya during her little speech, stands up and begins to mimic her. Placing his paws on his own hips. "Bagon bagon, ba ba gon, goon. Bagon!" He says as sternly as possible. He seems to laugh after, giving a large smile up at the humans. Mya points to him. "See? Eon agrees. Who knows, we might be calling you professor one day."

Sebastian quickly flinched back when she scolded him, meekly pulling his jacket around his shoulders further. "A-ah... Y-y-yes ma'am... sorry..." He said quickly. His free hand slipped into the jacket to grab the pokeball anxiously, something he was internally pleased was his reaction. It meant he was getting used to having it. However, his attention immediately went to the Bagon, and Sebby relaxed quickly with a quiet laugh. Like trainer, like pokemon. They were a good match already.
"R-regardless... I doubt I'll be professor. I'm ok with j-just being a researcher..." he said quietly as his voice shrunk once more.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me She gives him a very steady look. "I don't want to hear that doubt talk again. You keep that up and you'll speak it into existence. You gotta tell the world what you want, even if it may not come true. You gotta fight for it." Ah, that good ol' Famine attitude. Fighting for the smallest of things. It seemed to follow Mya anywhere she went. She let out a sigh and looked back to Eon. The bagon was staring up at them. "So, you said you had a Pokemon. Want to let them out to meet Eon? See how they get along? Would probably be good for them. Only if you and your Pokemon would be ok with that."The word 'Pokemon' made Eon smile and give another happy cry. He sat back down, seemingly content to listen to the humans have their conversation. Mya knelt down to scratch Eon's chin, earning what sounded like a chirping purr. "I wonder if he'd get along well with other Pokemon anyway... he likes people pretty well." She glances up at Sebastian. "What about yours? Good with people? Good with Pokemon?"
