Staff may occasionally throw wild Pokemon encounters into any thread that takes place in an area frequented by wild Pokemon, such as a route or wild area. If you're unsure which areas wild Pokemon can appear in, check here or here.
However, if you wish to be guaranteed a chance to catch a wild Pokemon, you must buy an encounter thread with EXP. The cost of this encounter thread depends on how many Pokemon you have, how recently you last successfully captured a wild Pokemon, and what kind of Pokeballs you wish to use.
The costs of wild encounter break down as follows.
Base cost: 40 EXP
+10 EXP if you have requested a wild encounter within the last week
+20 EXP if you wish to use Great Balls (capture chance * 1.2)
+50 EXP if you wish to use Ultra Balls (capture chance * 1.5)
+50 EXP if you wish to use Repel (guarantees a rare or uncommon Pokemon for 1 of your 3 encounters -- cannot stack)
+100 EXP if you wish to use Super Repel (guarantees a rare Pokemon for 1 of your 3 encounters -- cannot stack)
When you request a wild encounter thread, you will be asked to specify which area you wish to search for Pokemon in. Scroll down or click here for a summary of what kinds of Pokemon can be found in each area of the Deprin Region. You may choose to look for Pokemon during the day or at night.
While weather can affect what kind of Pokemon your character encounters, you cannot select the weather of your encounter thread; it will be rolled for by mods based on the typical weather for the location you've chosen.
If fishing is possible in the area you have chosen (see the area's conditions & info thread, or click here), you may indicate via RP that your character has begun fishing, resulting in a different group of potential Pokemon.
As in other threads, you will use a team of 3 Pokemon for your wild encounter thread, and you must specify your team in your first post (for more on Pokemon teams, see INFO: RP thread formatting)
In each wild encounter thread, mods will roll to determine which Pokemon appear, and you will then enter into a rolled battle with those Pokemon. Alternately, if your first Pokemon's Speed is higher than the wild Pokemon's Speed, you can try to capture it through a non-battle interaction -- for example, luring it with food, or talking to it -- but your chance of success for this will generally be quite low, depending on the individual species' capture rate.
You are not guaranteed to catch a Pokemon in your wild encounter thread! You will receive 3 encounters and 5 Pokeballs (or Great/Ultra Balls, if you purchased the upgrade) per thread. Depending on your luck and choices made in the thread, you could catch up to three Pokemon, or you could fail to catch any.
Your chance of succeeding when you throw a Pokeball is inverse to the percentage of the Pokemon's HP remaining. You receive a considerable bonus to capture chance if the Pokemon is under a status effect! But be careful: if you reduce a wild Pokemon to 0 HP, it will flee, and you won't be able to capture it.
Once you run out of Pokeballs, your wild encounter thread is over! Keep this in mind if you're about to throw your 5th Pokeball at your 2nd encountered Pokemon.
Once during your wild encounter thread, between battles, you may use a medicine item available to you at your gym badge quantity to heal your Pokemon outside of battle.
Your wild encounter thread will also end if all of your Pokemon faint (i.e., you white out), even if you still have Pokeballs or encounters left. Also, if you've chosen to set your thread in a dangerous area, whiting out could place your character and Pokemon at risk of serious harm or even death!
