Professor Yew The idea of kids growing up with Pokemon put a smile on Professor Yew's face. That would be amazing ... A whole new generation, growing up in a brighter, better world. Certainly something to look forward to. "In a professional capacity, I can tell you this," the professor said. "The Laboratory is looking at ways to restart the Pokemon League. It's still very early days -- we had some plans decades ago, but they fell by the wayside as people just lost hope, and we haven't seen enough trainers yet to make such a system feasible. But new trainers come in every day, so we've got people working on the planning side of things. I don't have the authority to make arrangements myself, but if Salve Co. is interested in funding a new League, I'm sure that can be arranged."The Oddish gradually approached Shri for a closer look, slowly circling the Riolu to make sure she was safe from every angle. Then Oddish plopped down with her back against the pot. She let out a tired, "Diiish."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They smiled. "Oh, trust me, Salve Co. will be interested in funding a new league, if the board likes it or not." Takara already had to wrangle the board on developing robots to help pollinate plants... just in case pokemon were to vanish again. After all, berries and other plants were too expensive for the common folk and that was a damn shame. But perhaps Takara was too kind to run a business, but either way, they were the CEO now.
Shri waited for the oddish to do her circling before plopping down. Then the riolu gave a happy smile before slowly standing up and holding out her paws in a 'wait here' motion before walking over to Takara. Shri tugged at their pants leg. "Riolu..." she pointed to Takara's shoulder bag then at her mouth, making an eating motion.
"Oh, right," Takara said, reaching into the bag slowly before fumbling around. He pulled out a bag of oran berries. "These?" Shri nodded and took the bag, walking back to the oddish before sitting down and opening the bag. She took out two berries, biting into one and holding out the other with a smile. "Riolu!"

Professor Yew Professor Yew smiled, an expression with the slightest hint of mischief in it. Having Takara in control of the region's greatest corporation was going to be good, wasn't it? They seemed quite confident in their ability to bend the corporation to their will, and knowing Takara, the professor had no doubt that they'd succeed. "Excellent. I'll have my colleagues get in contact with your office, shall I?"Watching Shri and Takara's interaction, the professor was almost surprised by the Oran berries -- then realized that she shouldn't have been. If anyone in the entire region had access to expensive berries, it would be the CEO of Salve Co. And she knew Takara well enough not to question or make a big deal of out the fact that they had chosen to share with Oddish. Oddish, of course, had no idea how expensive the berries were -- but they were still scarce in the wild, and she hadn't had a lot of chances to eat one. Her face perked right up when Shri offered it to her. Not having arms, she couldn't actually take it, but she took a big bite with a happy "Dish!"how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara smiled at Yew expression. How how they missed her... "Please do, I will be very eager to work with them and the pokemon lab of course, and if you need anything, don't be a stranger." It was true. Takara wanted to see the lab succeed and for pokemon to become part of everyone's lives again. If their company lost profit, then so be it! The greater good was something to strive for. "And if you ever need help here at the lab, I can do my best. Be sure to take breaks, Yew. It's funny for that to be coming from me of all people, but I mean it."
Shri smiled as the oddish ate the berry. She didn't mind holding it for the other pokemon, taking great pleasure in helping and eating her own berry at the same time. The air felt better now... less nervous, perhaps? As long as the oddish was happy and relaxed now, that was all that mattered.
Takara motioned over to the two pokemon. "Well, isn't that something? I might need to bring Shri around here more often." Their smile faded a bit. "Yew... do you think it'll happen again? The... rapture?" It was a serious conversation to have but, Takara was nervous. They didn't want pokemon to vanish again, at all. But their nervous had them planning new devices to keep life more comfortable for people but, well if they had their way, that technology wouldn't really be too important.

Professor Yew Professor Yew nodded, still smiling. Yes, she thought they'd work together well. It was lucky that she and Takara had ended up in these positions of power -- their previous friendship would make it easier for the Lab and Salve Co. to work together. Then again, it wasn't just luck -- they'd both worked hard to get to their positions, and that driven personality had brought them together as students. "I'll keep that in mind, Takara; thank you -- though you must be quite busy as well. How are things going at Salve Co.? This must be considerable upheaval for you as well."Oddish enjoyed the berry, and Yew enjoyed seeing her nervous little Pokemon relax for once. Shri was definitely a good influence -- and on Takara as well as Oddish, Yew suspected. "That would be quite welcome -- don't be a stranger."But Takara's question made the smile fall from Yew's face. It wasn't a subject she would have brought up herself -- she didn't like to think about the possibility. Not that it had never occurred to her, of course, but she liked to keep it the topic of dark midnight moments. Still, she knew it had to be reckoned with. "We still have no idea what caused it in the first place, so ... I think it could easily happen again. Until we know more about what happened the first time, we can't rule out that possibility."Yew ran a hand over her tied-back hair. "Some at the Lab think that the best way to react to the return of Pokemon is to prepare for them to disappear again. That's not my department, but there are contingency plans underway."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They let out a sigh. Becoming CEO was fine in and of itself, the work wasn't too much. Mostly signing papers and the like, but it seemed Takara's predecessor mostly did whatever the board told them to. It appeared that, when Takara took over, the board expected the same behavior. For the CEO to agree with whatever they said and do what they said, but they had a very rude surprise. Takara didn't sign anything without reading it fully and considering all options anyway. "It's been.... an adjustment, if anything. Butting heads with some people in the company but that is to be expected with a change in power, you know."Takara nodded at Yew's words. "I understand, I proposed to Salve Co. we act the same. You know, making new technologies just in case it occurs, making sure people can eat better things without it being so expensive, stuff like that. Although, I was tempted to try and focus some resources into seeing what caused the disappearance in the first place." That was a struggle. The board didn't want that to happen, something about moving too many resources to one problem that may never even happen again, so why worry about it?
"But whatever happens happens, I suppose."

Professor Yew "Oh, I know," the professor said, a bit wryly. There were people at the Lab who weren't happy with her position, either. Most of them didn't like that someone so young had seized such an important -- and prestigious -- role. Some, she suspected, would not have been happy with anyone but themselves in her place. "I know you can manage it, but don't forget to take breaks once and a while. Then again, I think Shri plans to help with that, don't you?"She looked down at the Riolu with a smile. Oddish had finished the berry by now and sat humming happily to herself, her eyes on Shri -- pleased simply to be around her new friend. "We should make sure that the right departments here and at Salve get in touch, see if we can pool our resources." Though Yew imagined there would be those at Salve who didn't want to share their research with the Lab, a public institution that would use the results for the public good and not for profit. Fortunately, she didn't think Takara was one of those people. She hesitated, thinking over the matter, before adding, "I think it's worth looking into what happened. That might give us an insight on whether it'll happen again -- and maybe even how to prevent it if it does. But we've been trying to figure that out for decades with no results ..."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Ah, breaks, that was something Takara always had trouble with, especially in college and now. There was always something else to be done and they had to finish it to sleep. Now the most work was with papers and signatures and meetings and stocks and profits. Boring stuff, but stuff nonetheless. If anything, Takara took plenty of naps during board meetings. They didn't care how their profits fared, they cared about progress with the world."Yeah, Shri makes sure I take lots of time to myself. She's actually the main reason I was able to sneak away and come here," Takara chuckled. "There are probably some board-assigned assistants out looking for me right now, to be honest. Let them look."
They glanced back at Shri. She was smiling at the oddish, seemingly pleased she was able to help ease the anxious pokemon somewhat. Takara would have to bring her back to spend time with the oddish again. So far, Takara had no other pokemon for Shri to bond with... thus was life, they supposed. Getting out of the office to a city was rough enough, imagine trying to escape to the wild! "I'll see to it that Salve Co. plays nice," Takara said. "I can't promise it won't be hard to get anything out of 'em, but I can do what I want, the way I see it. Even if it will take pulling some teeth."
"I know the feeling. I've looked through nearly all files at Salve Co. and haven't found much except when profits soared right after the disappearance. I'll keep looking and pushing research teams to try and find some reason..." They shrugged. "But for now, we have our pokemon back and I can't be happier. It's nice, you know? To hear wildlife. Birds and fish... I never noticed how quiet it was until pokemon came back, you know?" The silence at night was now replaced with bug pokemon and bird pokemon. Pidgey and pidove soared through the sky... the region felt alive again. Happier. It was wonderful.

Professor Yew The professor smiled, a bit ruefully. There had been a time or two back in school when she had been the one searching for Takara, so she knew quite well that they could avoid being found. Besides, no one was going to burst into her office searching for them. Probably. "I don't think I really have to say this, but be sure to make sure she gets some breaks as well. I'm sure she'll do her best to look after you, but she does appear to be pretty young, even as level-headed as she is."If anyone could pull Salve Co's teeth, it would be Takara ... Yew didn't envy them the job. Playing corporate politics was not her idea of fun, and her position already involved more of it than she would like. The helping-trainers part of her job was fine, of course, but the Lab's internal affairs could be a little challenging to navigate. "I appreciate that, Takara. I think we'll work well together."By "we" she meant both Salve Co. and the Lab as a whole and herself and Takara. Yew nodded, smiling "Yes, it's fantastic. The world feels so much more alive now -- we didn't even know what we were missing, not really. Be sure to take some time to enjoy it -- it would be a pity to spend so much time working and studying Pokemon that we forgot to actually interact with them."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara nodded. "Of course. I'm actually thinking about mandatory days off for her anyway, days she can do her own thing." Maybe that would work? A day where Takara could just follow her around and do what she wanted. It was a thought. But either way, they trusted Shri to know her limits.
"You are right there. Yew. To be honest, I really envy the new trainers now that get to wander around, exploring the region like it was meant to be, experiencing the wildlife and all the pokemon out there." They chuckled. "It might be fun to go out and capture some more pokemon myself, to be honest, but those new trainers have a certain freedom we don't have."
Ah, to be able to just wander around and capture and train pokemon. That was the life, but alas, Takara did have a job and it was a job that had to be done. Press conferences, paper work, looking pretty for a camera at business photo shoots, the works. Such was life.

Professor Yew "That sounds like a good idea." Professor Yew nodded, but she smiled ruefully too, amused. It was just like Takara to demand days off for their Pokemon but not for themself. "She'll learn by example, though, so you should be careful to set her a healthy example. 'Do as I say and not as I do,' and all that."Yew opened her mouth to say more on the subject, then closed it: she didn't need to lecture Takara. They might be a new trainer, but they were also highly intelligent and compassionate. They surely already realized how much Shri would want to spend time with them, follow their example -- like a child, really. "True," Yew said, wryly. "Sometimes I fantasize about what it might be like to spend time catching Pokemon without paperwork attached. But it's not all bad -- we have access to more resources than the average new trainer, too. I really would recommend going out and trying to catch Shri some friends, though. It'll be a good experience for both of you."We could always quit our jobs, Yew thought, more as a joke than a serious idea. She doubted Takara would give up their position, for all the demands it placed on them, and she wouldn't know what to do with herself without the Lab's demands on her time. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They chuckled slightly. "Right as always, Yew. I'll keep that in mind, I promise." It did seem Shri liked to copy Takara. Just the other day at their home gym, Shri had decided to try and lift Takara's weights. They were, of course, too big for her, so Takara ordered some for her that would be a better fit.
"But you need to make sure you take breaks, too, alright? I know you've been busy." It was a respect-filled worry. Out of the two of them, Yew always seemed to have her stuff together. If anything, Takara felt she was the smarter out of the two of them. Certainly the most responsible. "I know what you mean... I've been thinking of what it would be like to just be a trainer, like there were in the old days. Traveling the world, catching pokemon, finding your own way to make things work... if only. I wonder how different we would be if we grew up with them, you know?" Perhaps they would have never gone to college. For Takara, their whole purpose for getting all their degrees was to get a good job and to pay off their loans while still living comfortably. But had pokemon been around their whole life, who knows.

Professor Yew The professor nodded and restrained herself from offering further comment or advice -- no need to belabor the point. Takara was an adult, and as absent-minded as they could be, Yew knew they would take good care of Shri. And Shri would take good care of them. "I'll be all right, but I appreciate your concern." Yew smiled. "You know how they say that if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life? There are aspects of this job that aren't all smiles and Beautiflies, of course, but seeing new trainers meet their partners for the first time is fantastic."Takara's next idea gave Yew pause. What if they had grown up with Pokemon? She would be a trainer right now, wouldn't she? Or maybe even a gym leader ... No, she suspected that she still would have gone into research. But she would have spent the last 10 years learning about Pokemon in a hands-on way, rather than studying old records and then, when Pokemon returned, playing catch-up. She leaned back with a sigh. "We would live in a different world, if Pokemon had been here all along. A better world, I suspect, but there's no use mourning it -- no use crying over split algae. We just have to do our best with the world we have."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara nodded. Yew was a wise woman, she knew a lot and she often shared her wisdom with others. This was something Takara had come used to in college. There was no point worrying about something that never was and never could be, they didn't grow up with pokemon and that was that. But that didn't mean they couldn't work to make a better future for those that got to experience pokemon for the first time.
"It's hard to argue with Salve Co.'s board all the time, about pokemon being back and letting people experience them freshly. Some members of the board wanted to monetize it, sell starter pokemon and all that. I slammed that idea down hard." They let out a heavy sigh. "I was just like, let people experience things how they used to be, let them enjoy this brand new world! Why try to monetize everything? I swear, if they could find a way to make money off blinking they would."
It was a sad fact, but alas, one Takara had to deal with. The world of business was not glamorous if you had morality.

Professor Yew Yew couldn't help laughing a little at Takara's complaint. Not that she didn't appreciate the work they were doing to keep Salve Co.'s more mercenary instincts in check. It was just ... "I think they're used to CEO's being money-hungry ... putting the company first, over the needs of people who aren't stockholders. That is kind of their job."She smiled, a little ironically. "But, if I'm to be honest, I prefer your method. And I think you're the person Deprin needs at the helm these days. We're lucky Pokemon came back during your tenure -- from what I understand, your predecessor would have reacted ... differently."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?
