Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Professor Victoria Yew , Takara Wilton Active Pokemon:
Shri || Level 1
Pfft, needing a guard to deliver some pokeballs to a lab. Yeah right. What were they? A child? Takara turned off their business phone and shoved it into one of the pockets of their cargo pants. They were wearing dark, long cargo pants, black boots and a white tank top. It was one of their favorite outfits outside of work. And yeah, technically they were here to do some research at the university but Takara knew some interns were desperate for some actual stuff to do, so why not let them? Besides, Takara had better things to be doing.
They pulled the two large, armored suitcases with them towards the lab, Shri walking proudly beside them. Those suitcases were precious cargo: 217 pokeballs, all filled with pokemon in need of a good place to live and good trainers. Some of them were very powerful indeed, but they deserved better than Salve Co.'s cold hallways. It took a lot of arguments with the board for Takara to finally get them to agree to let the lab have the pokemon instead of the company.
What did they need with 217 pokemon? Takara had asked. Why not let the pokemon have a better life in a better environment and with the potential to meet a loving trainer? Why keep them trapped in the pokeballs? All in all, Takara won if only by sheer patience. Eventually, people would stop arguing just to be done with it. Besides, Takara knew they were right.
There was no issue when entering the lab. Takara sat up the two suitcases and took out their personal phone, scrolling through their whopping 3 contacts. It was kinda sad but, well, maybe it'd be easier making friends if Takara didn't have work all the damn time. But hey, paying off student loans right away was nice.
Takara sent Yew a quick text message:
'Check the lobby :3c'
With that, Takara put their phone away and reached down to scoop up Shri, putting her on their shoulder. She deserved to feel tall.

Professor Yew The professor was hard at work when she got the text, and she frowned at it. She had the number saved, even though it had been several years since she had roomed with Takara, or even spoken to them. In fact, she'd meant to send them a congratulatory text when they got the CEO job, but work had picked up and she'd never gotten around to it ... Did they mean they were here? At the Lab? Unannounced? Remembering what Takara was like, the professor decided that she'd better head to the lobby posthaste. She put aside the files she'd been going through -- reports of what Pokemon were contained in the Lab's Pokeballs -- and headed out to the main reception area. "Takara?" There they were, and they even had a Pokemon with them, a Riolu. Of course, the professor shouldn't have been surprised that Salve Co. had the resources to give their CEO a Pokemon -- or that Takara would take to the challenge of "Pokemon trainer" as they had to every other challenge Yew had ever seen placed before them. Her gaze moved down to the suitcases. "What are you doing here?"She should have been more polite, perhaps, asked if she could help them. But, well, it wasn't like they were strangers.

The moment Yew came into the lobby, Takara got a huge smile. It had been so long! They really should have texted Yew more or hung out more, but well, things got kinda busy. Turns out being a CEO meant a lot of meetings. A lot of paperwork. But they could find time to sneak away now.
"Hey!" They said, patting one of the suitcases. "I have a special delivery! Turns out Salve Co. had been collecting pokeballs. These are all verified as having pokemon in them. 217 pokemon! All for you!" They hummed. "Now that I think about it, I should have asked before I dumped them on you buuuuut, here we are..."
They motioned to the riolu on their shoulder. "This here is Shri!" Shri gave a polite nod before jumping down from Takara's shoulder, looking up at Yew. "Anyway, how have you been? Well?" Yeah, probably should have led with that. Heh, it had been a while since they had talked after all.

Professor Yew The professor stared at the cases, then at Takara. She'd known Salve Co. had Pokeballs -- of course they did -- but she'd never expected to actually see them. The Lab hadn't even made any efforts to get their hands on them, assuming that the company would turn them down. After all, plenty of people had their Pokeball hoards, though not 217 of them. "Are you sure you want to give these up?" She ought to have just accepted them, of course, rather than giving Takara a chance to change their mind. But the professor imagined that Salve Co.'s board would not be thrilled to learn that Takara had given away their entire supply of Pokemon. If this was actually their entire supply. "Oh -- I've been quite well, thank you. Busy, now that Pokemon are back. And it's very nice to meet you, Shri."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They gave a shrug. "Of course. What's Salve Co. going to do with them? They deserves trainers, a place to be free and to experience life after being in these pokeballs for so long. I'm fairly certain the board just wanted to use them to do manual labor, which is no life for a pokemon that doesn't want it." Takara rubbed the back of their neck. One thing they learned very quickly is that the board was not nearly as happy with pokemon coming back as Takara was. But the profits! They shouted. Profits be damned, pokemon were back! That was great news itself.
"The only one I intend to keep is Shri here!" They smiled down at the riolu. She looked back up at them and gave a small smile of her own. "We still have a lot of bonding to do, but we'll get there." Takara shrugged and smiled at Yew. "I'm glad you are doing well, I should have kept in better touch but, ya know, work."
They looked around a bit. Man, a pokemon lab. They never thought they'd see one. They were just things of the past, really. "So, what's it like? Being the professor now? I'm sure you've had your hands full with new trainers." Takara wasn't concerned. The best person for the job was Yew, after all.

Professor Yew Professor Yew nodded. She appreciated Takara's generosity, and she shouldn't really have been surprised that Salve Co.'s board had failed to stop them -- no one else had ever managed it either. "All right, well, let's take these back to my office. Probably best not to stand around with them in the lobby."She grabbed one of the suitcase and beckoned for Takara to follow her to her office, past the reception desk and down a corridor. "I certainly do know work," the professor said ruefully. She glanced at Shri. "Riolu is a solid choice of Pokemon. She'll get quite powerful, if you treat her well."Takara probably already knew that; they clearly hadn't come here for the professor's professional advice. But she couldn't help it. Force of habit. "Seeing new trainers meet their Pokemon is delightful," the professor added with a genuine smile. "A lot of them hit it off right away. It's heart-warming."how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara followed with the other suitcase, letting Shri scale up them again to sit on their shoulder. Her legs were a little too short at the moment to make walking easier. Takara was certain she would grow taller with age, probably fairly young too.
"Oh, that's good to hear! I'll be honest, I just thought she was cute and sweet. My assistant tried to get me to take on a charizard," they chuckled. "But where's the fun in that? I wanted to grow with my pokemon, just like all the young trainers nowadays."
They smiled as Yew spoke, nodding. "It must be so amazing to watch people get to pick their pokemon... oh! But what about you? Do you have a pokemon yet?" Of course she probably did but Takara figured they would ask, to be polite. Besides, they figured it would be nice for Shri to meet other pokemon besides those used by Salve Co. now. They wanted her to be a well-rounded, respectable pokemon.
Huh, now that they thought about it, they almost sounded like a parent.

Professor Yew The professor nodded. "I feel the same way. The Lab offered me a fully-trained, more powerful Pokemon, but I wouldn't even know how to handle it. I think giving an inexperienced trainer a powerful Pokemon right off the bat is more likely to do harm than good."They reached her office; as they entered, she parked her suitcase by the door and gestured to one of the chairs in front of her large desk. "Feel free to make yourself comfortable."Memories of grad school suggested that she might regret giving Takara that option, but surely they'd gotten a little more professional since joining Salve Co. Otherwise they never could have become CEO. "I have two, actually! One given to me by the Lab, and the other I caught on a trip to the Exegg Islands." The professor reached for the Pokeballs she wore on her belt -- Absol's at her hip, and Oddish's ...
Oh dear. She'd forgotten that she'd let Oddish hang out in her office, as she often did to try to accustom the nervous little Pokemon to her new home. Engrossed in speaking to Takara, she hadn't even noticed Oddish when she came back in. Where ... ?
Oh. Rising from the pot of soil she'd moved into her office because Oddish seemed to like it, she saw a trembling tuft of leaves.
"Oddish is right there," the professor said, gesturing, "but she gets nervous around strangers."
Technically a bit of an omission: Oddish still got nervous around Yew sometimes as well.

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They made themselves comfortable right away after parking the suitcase of pokeballs and sitting in a chair and crossing their legs. Shri was less quick to do so. Takara smiled at Yew. "Two pokemon! Incredible! I only have Shri so far, but I hope to get away from work long enough to see about capturing another." Shri was all Takara needed at the moment anyway. She was a sweet pokemon, after all.
Takara looked at where Yew pointed and frowned. "Oh, poor thing." They were about to get up to greet the pokemon, but Shri stopped them with a shake of her head and a paw on their leg. Takara sunk back down in the chair as Shri approached the planter. "I was told Shri can sense emotions of people and pokemon, even the environment around her! Maybe she can help?" Takara asked, watching intently.
Shri approached the planter. The waves of anxiety were clear from the shaking leaves, but she felt it deep in her own chest. "Ri ri," Shri said softly, patting the planter. "Riolu?"

Professor Yew "It's certainly an experience," the professor said, thinking about her trip to the Exegg Islands. It hadn't gone entirely as planned, what with being unable to battle Drifloon and all, but: "It's beautiful out there. You can see the natural world blooming now that Pokemon are back."She turned her attention to the large pot and the Riolu standing by it. "If she can, that would be most welcome. Oddish has a rather nervous disposition, and I worry -- I'm afraid we scared her quite badly when we captured her."For a long moment after Shri's approach, the pot sat in silence, though the leaves gradually stopped shaking. Finally, the Oddish raised her head just enough to get her eyes out of the dirt and look around a little. At the sight of Takara, she ducked back down with a tiny little, "Dish?"how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles They gave a deep sigh. Oh, a good vacation spot perhaps. "I'll need to take a trip out there." They looked back at Shri, the riolu patiently waiting for the oddish. Maybe she would like it out there, enjoying the natural world. So far, her first moments back outside a pokeball were filled with boring meeting rooms, offices and hallways with bubbling water coolers. It would be better if she spent time around pokemon and the wild world. "Shri may not be able to control emotions or anything yet, although my head scientist told me lucario can do so, but Shri seems very patient and calm."
Shri was standing there patiently, hardly moving as she waited. Once the oddish came out just a bit, only to duck back down, Shri looked back at Takara. She raised her paw and motioned for them to get up and move back. Takara did so, standing up and taking a few steps away before giving a thumbs up and then sticking their hands in their pocket.
Shri looked back at the pot. "Riolu... ri ri." Perhaps a gentle coxing was required... at least for the oddish to stick her head out of the pot and see everything was alright.

Professor Yew "You should, if you can find the time." The professor smiled a bit ironically, thinking of how busy Takara had always been, back in school. And it had to be even worse now, running Salve Co. She was surprised they had even a moment for this visit. "Deprin is a beautiful place, now that it's ... well, not 'back to normal,' but no longer empty."The professor glanced at Shri as she waited for Oddish. "I think she'll be a good match for you, then. And when she evolves, she'll be a force to be reckoned with. I believe Riolu only evolve if they really trust and bond with their trainers, though."The Oddish raised her head, looking first at Shri, then at the professor. The professor gave her Pokemon an encouraging smile, but didn't speak or move, not wanting to startle her. Oddish turned her attention to Shri. "Diiish?"how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara gave a soft chuckle, lowering their voice as to not startle the Oddish. "Ya know, it's funny, Shri makes sure I eat and sleep more than my own assistants do. They are always running around telling me what papers I need to sign and what meetings to attend. Been busy since pokemon came back and all, but Shri has shut the door on them a few times so I can get at least a meowth nap." Shri was a arceus-send, if anything. "But, at least when she evolves, I know I treated her well."
Pokemon were so strange, it was hard to know if they were doing good or not. Although, Takara trusted Shri to inform them if they weren't doing good enough. Already Shri had a preference for food and berries, she was picky about where her water came from, and she had her favorite place to sleep. She was not shy about her needs or wants, that was for sure.
Shri smiled at the Oddish. "Riolu," she said very softly, slowly holding out a paw in a comforting gesture, a 'I won't leave your side if that helps you', gesture. "Lu lu.. ri?"

Professor Yew The professor smiled, remembering the days when she had been the one trying -- and often failing -- to make sure Takara ate and slept. "I'm glad she's asserting herself. Pokemon definitely have the capacity to bond deeply with their trainers -- the experiences of the trainers who've signed up so far bears that out. Including myself ... It's something I don't think we ever could have understood without experiencing it. So I'm glad you've chosen to raise Shri."That ending was the professor's attempt to pull her thoughts back to the present, relevant to Takara and Shri, rather than get lost wool-gathering about the bond between Pokemon and trainer, something Deprin had sorely missed for decades. Oddish tilted her head (her entire body, really) and stood up slowly. She still wasn't sure about Shri, but the little Riolu did seem much less intimidating than Absol, or than a human. Cautiously, Oddish climbed out of her pot and examined Shri more closely. how can we claim to understand something we've never experienced?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds
Clear || Afternoon || No Battles Takara nodded in agreement. "It is amazing, isn't it? I'm just happy the younger generations from here on out get to experience what few of us did. Think about it, kids now can grow up with pokemon again... makes me want to push forward the idea of assisting to fund those old championships and gyms again." It was true. Takara knew history and knew the place pokemon tournaments had. Salve Co. had enough money. Funding an actual championship league like in the old days would be doable... but how to do that was beyond them. It wasn't like there were many people that remembered the old championships and gyms.
Either way, things would find their own way of working out. There were still too many new trainers out there now. They needed to work on training their own pokemon before the thought of a gym even came to mind.
Shri was in her own world with this oddish. Once the oddish came out of the planter, Shri sat down very, very slowly. It was an attempt to show she was peaceful and calm, as well as a way to make herself slightly shorter than the oddish. The riolu smiled and looked back over at the humans. "Riolu, io." See? It wasn't so bad. Things were safe here.
