The moon was out now - without a cloud in the sky, stars twinkled in the skyline framing the bistro Cocoa and Vanillish, setting the stage for the day’s final battle. Much of the cafe had begun to clear out in the last hour or two, and now it was almost as peaceful as it had been right near opening hours. The outdoor terrace - which had been repurposed to house the fights - was wreathed in pretty lights, candles, and the gentle glow from the lights inside the bistro casting long shadows across the flagstones.
The only sounds aside from the white noise of patron chatter was that of an old guitar singing its sweet song. But it wasn’t the radio - no, it was live music from the trainer who was the evening trainers' opponent - the musician Farrah Whitaker. She was playing her guitar gently, perched on a stool and looking quite at peace. At her feet lounging was a large galarian zigzagoon with a minor scar across his jaw, eyes glowing bright pink in the darkness.
The music paused as one of the bistro’s waitstaff walked outside, approaching Farrah with a cup of coffee - straight black, no additives. “For you, Ms. Whitaker. This is your last battle today and then we’re gonna start closin’ up. Thank you so much for volunteering!” Letting the guitar sit on her lap, Farrah took the coffee with a quiet nod.
“Hey, I already told your barista boy this mornin’ - Ms. Whitaker makes me feel ancient. Just Farrah’ll do, yeah?” She chuckled and took a sip. Ugh. Tasted awfully bitter, but did it’s job in pepping her up, which was what really mattered. “Thanks for lettin’ me know. It’s been a fun time; oughta make this a more regular thing.”
She offered a wave as the barista walked back in, before shooting back the entire cup in a few quick gulps. The zigzagoon gave her a look of incredulousness, as if seeming to ask why she’d chugged something she disliked the taste of like that.
“Hey. Don’t judge me, Dec. Just ‘cause I like the night doesn’t mean I’m nocturnal like you. Hush.” The raccoon-dog huffed and rolled his eyes. “Oh, you…. - oh, hey hey, lookie there.”
The two glanced up towards the bistro. The large glass windows separating the terrace from Cocoa and Vanillish’s interior allowed for very good visibility from both sides, which was great for Pokemon battles. The challengers could see where they’d be pointed towards and be prepared, and patrons could watch and enjoy as they enjoyed their evening treats. “Not many folks out now - I think that’s our last challenger right there comin’ in, wouldn’t you say?”

She had been waiting for this. That battle event she had talked about with Farrah all those nights ago. Now, she was here. Late, but here. It took a good solid hour to stop Wormy from picking a fight with Járnsaxa. After a while, she was finally able to get him to return to his pokeball, nabbed Atlas and then left in a storm with Eon running behind her. Now, finally, they were here.Mya stepped out onto the battle terrace and held the door open for Eon, the shelgon marching on through with his heavy steps as he called a greeting over, trotting on over with his heavy shell making him have a sway to his gait. He was much more use to it now, every moment seeming smooth. "Farrah! Long time no see!" Mya said, approaching and giving a smile. "Hope you've been well. Eon seems happy to see ya." She looked down at the shelgon. He didn't really remember much but he knew Farrah was a friend and was very nice to Mya for letting her stay. She patted Eon's heavy shell. "The bastard evolved! Almost gave me a heart attack. Anyway, what's been up with you? And Decibel, nice to see you again," she said, smiling at the little panda raccoon.

"Well well, look who it is!" Farrah smiled back. She settled the guitar off of her lap to lean on the stool she now vacated. Waved for a moment over at Mya, before crouching down to rub her hand over the hardened plates of Eon's head. "I'll be goddamned. So that's what all the sheddin' was about, eh? Lil' fella ain't so little anymore. That's awesome." She stood up with a hand on her hip to grin at Mya a moment later. "As rough n' tumble as he looks now? I'll bet he gave ya a fright. You're lookin great yourself, though."
Decibel got up from where he was lounging with a sharp chuff, giving an appraising look to Eon, before nodding and looking up to Mya with a pleased expression. He blinked at Mya as if to say that he shared the sentiment, before settling back on his haunches to listen to the trainers chat. "Lot of work gettin' done," Farrah said in response to the question. "Makin' some great steps forward. Been talkin' to some folks, we might just have the makings of a gym here in Deprin soon. Here in Sylvanport, even. Seemed a perfect time of any to get our legs out here n' meet the mettle of folks, no?"
Decibel seemed to agree with a little rumble of noise. Farrah chuckled. "You've obviously been up to quite a lot, though. What else you been up to aside from trainin' an absolute monster of a lad? Got some more new teammates to rough-house a challenge?" She picked up the guitar to sling by it's strap over a shoulder, moving the stool back out of the way, before returning to where she'd been standing a moment ago. "Which, speaking of. Rules state a one on one. That'll be the decider for the prize of this lil' competition as well for fairness... But if you wanna go harder than that, we're more than game."

She hummed and lifted up her arms. She had some scattered burns along the skin. "Feeling great and got some new scars. I got them during a fight in Drackinhelm. But uh, ya know." She shrugged and smiled. "Whenever you feel ready to accept more gym leaders in, I was thinking... once you get things started, I'd like to do what I mentioned before and open one in Famine. I got the perfect team on my adventures to the volcano too."Mya took out two new ultraballs and tossed them in the air, releasing her newest teammates. One of them was a massive serpent of a lad, over six feet and rather stunning with blue and white scales, in Mya's opinion. The dratini took an appraisal of what was around him before glancing down at Decibel before slithering over to drape himself over Mya's shoulder, coiling his body around her in an almost protective way. Mya reached up and patted his head. The second pokemon, on the other hand, was a little spitfire of an orange lizard, spitting fire as he came out striking a pose and giving a bright and happy smile, seeming so eager to meet these new friends. He rushed over to Decibel and gave a happy hello, he then ran over to Eon and began to ask how awesome this was! New friends! "This cute little guy is Atlas Arris, named partly for the god and partly for a really great friend of mine that he reminds me of. And this wormy boy is Wormy McWormington. Turns out he is a dragon. I thought he was a worm at first. I was thinking of them, and Eon, being a future gym team. Dragons, ya know?" She shrugged, happy that the newcomers to her team seemed applicable to meeting others. Wormy still seemed rather judgemental, but he was getting better by the day. "Hmm, if you don't mind, a two on two? Wormy and Atlas here don't really have much experience yet and I'd love for them to get some." Eon was... far too strong for Mya to feel comfortable tossing him into battle at the moment. He was a rough and tumble sort, but she preferred some form of fairness.

Farrah winced faintly at the scars. "Ouch. 'Least ya don't seem all too bothered by em, though. But yeah? Thinkin' of joinin' up with the League, eh? Alright, let's see em then." It made her proud to know that another trainer was genuinely interested in starting up a gym. And one that Farrah knew for a fact wouldn't be bought over by the petty greens of corrupt dollars. It was like having a small team. Support standing up to those trying to bear down on others in oppression. ...A team. Yeah. That was a nice thought, actually.
She raised an eyebrow at the large serpent and his pale, pretty scales. Now that was a young dragon if Farrah ever had to imagine. Decibel didn't look particularly bothered or intimidated - he'd faced much larger, afterall! He rubbed his cheek against a paw and yawned as the Dratini draped himself across his trainer. It made Farrah on the other hand smile - a quiet reminder in a way of Mosh, and how the giant snake liked to be treated like an oversized feather boa. ...Or maybe he was just trying to actually constrict Farrah. She still wasn't entirely sure on that one yet. The little orange lizard on the other hand, made Farrah's grin widen. What a friendly sort! A real sweetheart, full of pip and energy and vigor. She liked that.
Decibel tilted his head at this second Pokemon and snuffled at the Charmander in a hello before the lil' guy ran back over to his actual team. He got up then, and gave himself a long stretch before shaking his silky fur out. Alright - time to work, it seemed! "Atlas Arris - I like it. Sentimental and sweet. And," Farrah tried not to laugh. She managed to suppress the chuckle, but not so much the amused grin that... Wormy McWormington's name brought. "They both seem like quite the Pokemon. I'm glad you've expanded your team in such a way! I think they seem more than fitting for - a dragon gym, you said? Excellent."
She took the moment to slip another ball off her belt. Much like Decibel's fancy ball, this one was also very carefully polished and shone under the fairy lights and candles wreathing the terrace. "You've met Elegy, but he I think, will be rather excited for a rematch after last time. He's got some new tricks up his fur." The Pokeball shattered open with a twinkling of bright light, and as Farrah pocketed it the Houndour shook himself out with a spatter of embers and pleased grumbles. He'd grown a bit - not a whole lot, but there was more fire in his eyes than last time. "I'm down for a two on two. Would you prefer it to be a double battle format? Or singles with multiple Pokemon in reserve? Either one works for me, and my team."

Mya smiled at seeing Elegy again. The pup had grown a bit and seemed full of fire! But alas, she didn't have her larvitar with her today. "You'll have to make do with my other pokemon today, Elegy, but I know you will have a rematch with Jarnsaxa eventually." She smiled and nodded to Wormy. He slithered off of her shoulders and onto the battlefield, looking at Elegy carefully. This was... probably going to be a quick fight. Wormy and Atlas weren't as strong as other pokemon on Mya's team, and they didn't have any type advantage, but that wouldn't stop them from gaining the experience.
Atlas and Eon moved to Mya's side, ready to watch the fight. "Single battle works for me, Wormy an Atlas haven't had much experience in trainer battles yet. I want them to get used to fighting more pokemon individually." It was important! It was how Eon learned.
Mya gave a smile and took some steps back, Arris and Eon following. "They might not have much experience, but they do have some serious fire in them! I'm excited for you to see their potential!" Mya did consider having Vulcan battle but... no, not yet. She wanted to focus on this gym team first. The gyms had to get started, right? She wanted to be one of the ones doing that, and the sooner Famine got off it's feet with a proper gym and better jobs and better tourism, the happier Mya would be.

"Singles it is," Farrah nodded as she picked her guitar up again, slinging the strap over her shoulder as she moved the stool out of the way. Once it was moved, she took her place on her side of the battlefield with a small grin. "No way to get experience like a good old fashioned battle. I look forward to seeing this fire in them that you're talking about!" With a snap of her fingers, Decibel sauntered off back towards where the stool now was, sitting down next to it with a patient expression. It wasn't his time yet, and he'd patiently wait until he was called upon. As he settled, Farrah grinned, crossing her arms over her chest. "Elegy, get ready. It's time to show your burning ambition."
Elegy sniffed at the mention of the Larvitar. He didn't look particularly put off that he wouldn't be able to face her today - instead, he seemed pleased that he'd be in a battle in general! He stepped to his spot on the battlefield and paused to scratch at his ear for a moment, before digging his claws in and letting out a battle-ready howl! The last few straggling customers inside the bistro turned their heads at the noise, but Farrah and her Pokemon only looked determined, unperturbed by the new attention on the battle.
OOC: Battle commence! Houndour is faster and moves first. Elegy uses Howl and raises his attack stat by 1 (23).

Mya smiled as the battle got starting, Elegy's howl making her blood pump, she could tell Wormy was also getting ready for a fight. Although, Mya also knew this wasn't going to end well for either of her battlers today. Now if Eon was fighting... that would be different, but he wasn't. He laid down by Mya and decided to watch, tucking his legs close to his shell. Wormy didn't gave a great move set yet, but hell, he'd get there eventually."Let's start this off strong! Thunder Wave!" she ordered. After that, it was Wormy's time to shine. He had gotten with the program with Mya already, she would only speak when she thought she had some input, and right now, that input was trying to gain them any sort of advantage. Paralyzed pokemon had trouble moving so... maybe it'd help, if it hit. Wormy let out a cry as his scales shined as he released a wave of electricity onto the battlefield, eyes burning with the desire to battle!

The static shock coursed through Elegy's fur, leaving him feeling as if his hair were standing on end and leaving his muscles feeling stiff and heavy. It wasn't pleasant, but he shook his head, trying to clear himself of the feeling. Farrah nodded, her expression turning serious and concentrated as she honed in on the battle, past the prior determination. "Hold yourself up, Elegy, don't let it get to you. Steady."
The pup shook his head again, but looked up to the Dratini with a fierce look, a determined snarl threatening to break out. "Now, Ember," Farrah commanded. It took a lot more effort than the Houndour would have liked, with the static trickling through his system. But he managed to push though it just enough to ground himself and spit flames at the serpent! It didn't do a whole lot... but the flames seemed tinged in something odd. Almost purplish in origin - like something dark was threatening to come up with the pup's attack.
Farrah honed in on this and a slow, faint smirk broke out.
OOC: Houndour is Paralyzed! Houndour used Ember, doing 2 damage. Dratini has 10/12 HP.

Mya let a small smile come to her lips at seeing the pup struggle under paralysis. Good, that bought some time. As the flames danced along Wormy's skin, he seemed to panic, but even Mya could see the damage was minimal. She let the worm coil around a bit in rage at the impudence of the dog burning his scales!"Hey! You grew up in a volcano, you've dealt with fire, so get over it!" She called, her voice firm and demanding attention. Wormy stopped his tirade against the pup and looked back at her, seeming to focus again. Dragons, Mya had learned, were pokemon that required a certain type of hand to handle, and that hand was not taking shit. That was Mya's specialty. "Wrap!" She ordered. Wormy darted forward, slithering across the battleground quickly and determined on constricting the houndour in a tight grasp. Even if his move pool was limited at the moment, he could use what he had!

Elegy dug his claws in and watched carefully as his opponent whipped and thrashed around, sluggishly holding his ground. That thrashing and hissing was scary. He glanced back to Farrah for assurance, and the musician only nodded at him before her eyes were back on their opponent. "Good job," she said.
Farrah was impressed the way that Mya had her team under control. She could imagine it was difficult to train a dragon... but to get one under control with a focus like that was excellent. She liked what she was seeing. And when Mya commanded an attack, damn. For a serpent of his size, much like Mosh, Wormy was very fast. She nodded her approval towards her opponent and their teamwork.
The Houndour found, unfortunately, that his limbs felt too stiff and heavy to get out of the way. Instead, he braced himself, that strange darker purple colored flame puffing from his mouth as he panted and tried to get his body under control. With a yelp, he found himself swept up into the Dratini's snare, constricted down upon tightly. That hurt! Wriggling helplessly, he found that he couldn't get free no matter what he did. The more he wriggled the tighter the coil got and the harder it was to get out of the position he was in at all. But, if he couldn't escape... surely he could do something!
"Now, Elegy!" Farrah called out. Ah, yes! The new move they'd been practicing really hard. He'd been struggling with it, but he'd do his best. He pushed past the stiffness in his muscles, inhaled, focused.... and something began to form in front of the Houndour's open mouth. It looked like an orb of dark shadowy energy, pulsing with purple light. Craning his head around to face Wormy McWormington, he shot it off with a cry, and the Shadow Ball exploded against the dragon's pale scales point-blank!
OOC: Dratini uses Wrap and does 2 damage. Houndour is now Wrapped, and after taking Wrap damage, has 11/15 HP! Houndour pushes through Paralysis and uses Shadow Ball. Dratini takes 7 damage, and has 3/12 HP!
End of turn paralysis check: Elegy remains paralyzed.

The young dragon took the hit hard and Mya felt her eye twitch in sympathy at the pain, but Wormy wasn't down for the count. The worm continued to tighten his grip on the dog, hoping not to lose the position they were in or the damage, but he felt the sharp pain along his scales and growled.Mya was impressed, however. The power the pup had gained since they last met was impressive, but she also knew that Farrah was a good trainer. One day, though Mya knew Wormy would have some incredible power of his own. For now, he was just a young and simple worm that couldn't do too much, but she had faith. Wormy looked back to her, eyes gleaming with something she hadn't seen from him: the fear of losing. "Hey! Win or lose, don't you dare give up!" She shifted her stance, straightening back her shoulders. "We don't quit till it's over! Wrap!" The dragon nodded and tightened his grip on the pup as hard as he could, intent on doing a bit more damage before the fight was up.

Elegy yelped at the further constriction, his head turning back around to face his paws, where only his toes could flail ineffectively in an attempt to escape. The Shadow Ball took a lot out of him - it was a newer move that was experimental, but Farrah was very very proud to see it come out in action successfully! It had taken quite a bit of training, and using those TM things was... interesting. "You did good, pup, hang in there."
Farrah took a moment as the battle unfolded to watch Mya closely. There wasn't an overt negative reaction to a hard hit... good. That was good. And ah, the shift in battle stance to determination even in the face of a losing battle. The musician's concentrated expression broke into one of contemplation and approval. Now, this was one of only a couple battles, and she could sense Decibel's antsy energy rearing to finally be part of a battle... which left plenty of time to continue to observe. But what Farrah saw, she liked. It gave her ideas. Approval. Something perhaps, to move forward with.
If there was one thing Elegy couldn't stand it was being constricted and unable to move. And this wrapping from a creature so much bigger hurt! A lot! And between that and the stiff static coursing through his body without pause, he could barely even struggle. And it was making the young Houndour begin to panic. He writhed in Wormy's tight grip with a fearful whine, ears back... but to no avail. He was being squeezed tighter and tighter and there was no escape! "Elegy- stop panicking! You're still in battle, you know better." Farrah's voice sharpened, and the puppy paused for a moment, meeting eyes with his trainer. Right! Battle, right, yes - with a high pitched bark, he struggled against his stiff body, facing his feet again, and used all his might to heave an Ember at the large coils around him. That... it seemed, would do it to free him at last.
OOC: Fixed a previous mathematical error (Houndour's health should have been lower), apologies for that!
Dratini uses Wrap and does 2 damage. Elegy has 9/15 HP!
Houndour may move normally, and uses Ember! It... is a critical hit, and does 6 damage. Dratini has fainted!

And there is was. Mya watched as the flames moves over Wormy's coils and the dratini collapsed in pain and exhaustion, his coils going lose around the pup. Mya held out his pokeball and recalled the young dragon, smiling at the round capsule. "Nice work, bud, you did great." She looked up at Farrah again and smiled, putting Wormy's pokeball on her belt."Alright! Ready for the second match?" She asked, looking to Atlas. The charmander seemed rearing to go for battle! Eon even looked as if he wanted to fight, but the large dragon stayed settled down, watching patiently. The lizard ran out onto the battlefield, but seemed to want to wait for a switch out! It wasn't fair to battle an opponent that looked like they were struggling to move, right? The little lizard did let out a few embers of his own, as if showing his willingness to battle! There was no shame in losing a fight. Mya learned that when she was young. The shame came from if you let the loss get to you and eat you up. Shame also came from giving up on getting stronger and doing better. She wasn't going to let her team do either of those things, either that faced loss with honor or they weren't fit to be her pokemon. Perhaps that was harsh, but she had standards for those she called her team and her family.

"Of course. Give us just a moment..." Farrah let out a low whistle to get Elegy's attention. The exhausted pup looked over, huffing breath out and shuddering under the paralysis, and the musician crouched down, holding a hand out to the Pokemon with a look of pride and warmth. "You did amazing, kiddo. C'mere, it's time to take a rest." Elegy shuffled his way over, and nudged his head against Farrah's hand with a happy little whine. She scratched behind his ears and mumbled something of praise before returning him to his ultra ball.
Standing back up again, Farrah took the moment to stretch her back. She was just reaching for Mosh's Pokeball on her belt when she paused, hearing a sharp rumble from behind her. Turning, she saw Decibel stand up from where he'd been watching the fight to lumber over, shaking his fur out and giving a very determined look towards Mya and Atlas. "...You sure, Dec? I've got Mosh, that doesn't seem..." With a little huff, the Zigzagoon shook off his trainer and stepped forward again. Slowly, Farrah lowered a hand from her belt, and nodded. "Can't but accept that fighting spirit. Alright. Take it easy, bud."
Decibel stepped forward then, onto the battlefield across from Atlas, offering the Charmander an understanding nod. But there was something in his expression. Something that while understanding and fair, was incredibly... leering. Determined. He hadn't been in a battle for a while and wanted to prove himself.
OOC: Elegy has been recalled. Decibel is now the active Pokemon!
Zigzagoon has a higher speed and moves first!
