Name: Sprye Nivose
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance
He has a youthful, wiry build and is starting to be somewhat tall. He is nimble and likes to be styled. He's always stuck close to home, so striking out on an adventure is out of his wheelhouse, physically. He tries to maintain a sense of normalcy, even when things are a bit out of control and dresses a bit impractically at times, which reflects this. He hangs onto ideas for a long time.
Personality
He'd rather use his brain than anything else, but is too inexperienced to be useful against someone else who knows the lay of the land. Struggling to be confident in himself when he has no reason to be, he can seem proud or woefully ignorant. A saving grace is that he is also determined to be nimble in defeat, and tends to own his mistakes.
Somewhat aloof but not unfriendly, he has an excitement for Pokemon and not much else. There is not a lot of self-reflection, nor a lot of depth to his interactions with others. Right now Sprye is acting for himself and what he wants. Fundamentally a good kid, he doesn't want to hurt other people or make a mess of things, but has some frustrations he hasn't given enough thought to yet.
History
Sprye lives in Mistvale. His grandparents were from Kalos, originally, and were trapped on the island when the Event occurred. Their daughter became a scientist, following in their footsteps to sort out the mystery, but never expected The Pokemon to reappear in her own lifetime. She married late, obsessed with her work. She didn't miss a beat in her work and gave most of the care duties to his father. He'd always been a little disappointed in his son, as he didn't work as hard as his mother, or as steadfastly as he did. The kid grew up listless and it seemed like the more he tried to instil a work ethic, the more Sprye retreated into his own world. He stopped pushing eventually, even though it bothered him to do so. There's no point if it was only making him worse, that was never the intention, so, defeated, his father had to give up trying to help stabilize him. This frustration creeps through sometimes, and strains their relationship.
Sprye has always dreamt of the world outside. He hadn't known his grandparents but his mother remembered every small detail with her organized, sharp memory. Many of his childhood memories are just of her are her retelling stories that she had heard about where they came from. The big shiny city Lumiose, lovely shops and cobblestone roads. People and Pokemon working together and playing together. Nobody was afraid because the Pokemon were there to protect people - especially children. Whenever she felt she had a moment, she would write certain details down for him too, on little note pads and index cards. Nothing fancy. She loved to see him inspired and excited, when she could be around. Sprye kept everything. He was distant from his classmates and dreamed about gleaming cities.
When the Pokemon returned, he could hardly believe it. There was probably a way off the island now. --And even if there wasn't, there were Pokemon again. He wanted to make sure he didn't miss it. After a fight with his father, Sprye decides to head out on his own. If Pokemon were with him, there shouldn't be any danger, going off looking. He should ask his mother for help, he knows that, but this is all she's been doing for years. She has her own stuff to figure out. Maybe it's the trainers that will find something new.
He heads out with a small pack of things he expects to need, and knows he doesn't have to go far heading down to the city centre to find the research labs.
