time: morning weather: clear characters: Arris Yule, wild Pokemon battle mechanics: rolled It was a clear, almost cloudless day as Arris set out on Route 11, the morning air brisk and refreshing. In the distance, a few Spearows and one larger shape, probably a Fearow, wheeled through the eggshell-blue sky. There were a few other people on the road, Route 11 being an important artery for traffic between north and south Deprin, but it wasn't too crowded yet this early in the day. With luck, the other travelers wouldn't scare off any wild Pokemon hanging around -- though some of them were already looking curiously at Arris and his Pokemon. Trainers still weren't a very common sight in the region, after all.

Arris took a long, deep breath, a bright grin on his face as he sauntered along the road, looking for the turn-off towards the river. The day was bright and lovely, it was morning, and look at those beautiful birds in the sky! Arceus, life was good. Pepper was sitting on his shoulder, signature shades on the Pikachu's head. He looked a little more dazed than his trainer though; not as much of a morning pokemon as either Belle or Arris.
Any people that the duo passed, Arris offered a friendly wave to. Best stake out a good reputation early! People would remember the bright peppy trainer when he was the big and famous powerhouse of Deprin, right? Maybe. Maybe reputations weren't all that though either as long as you had the hard work and determination.
Walking along the river for some way, Arris finally found what looked like a good spot and pulled out a rod, settling himself down near the shore. Pepper hopped off and sniffed at the rod curiously before looking up at the man. He smiled back as he set the bait and string up, making sure their little spot was nice, secure, and open. "Belle was real sleepy this morning, and I didn't wanna bug her - so it's you and me today pal! We're goin' fishing for a bit!"
He went about setting up the rod from there - casting the bobber into the river, with a firm but careful grasp on the pole. Next to him, Pepper was also 'fishing' - with a rod Arris had made makeshift from a branch and some leftover string. It wasn't really actual fishing, but he wanted the Pikachu to feel included, nonetheless. He seemed to be enjoying it, so that was fine.

Barboach was just moseying along the river bottom, face in the mud, using its feelers to check for any tasty tidbits that might have sunk into the ooze, when something moved in front of it ... a little snack. The Barboach didn't see the line attached to the snack; it barely hesitated before latching on. After all, it would never turn down free food ... And then it found itself pulled out of the water and onto the bank, because apparently this snack was more than it seemed! Uh-oh! Barboach faced Arris with more confusion than aggression, still trying to figure out how it had suddenly ended up out of the water.

"Yoooo Pepper we've got a bite! Let's go!"
The Pikachu pulled his little branch fishing pole back up to shore before leaping up on Arris' shoulder, watching as his trainer reeled in the line, pulling something up to shore. Oh, exciting! Fishing wasn't so boring afterall! The tall man laughed triumphantly, a bright grin on his face as the Pokemon was hauled up to the surface. Now... what was it? Looked like a lil' mudfish of some kind.
Hm.... looked neat though. If very confused about what was going on. He tilted his head and studied the Pokemon for a moment. Well - it didn't seem like it was particularly aggressive. Arris couldn't blame it, being pulled up was probably a shock. "Hey, bud - sorry for the sudden shock. And uh... sorry for this too, I guess?"
He tossed a Great Ball at the Barboach. If it wasn't lookin' super aggressive, Arris wasn't going to be either. If it caught the Pokemon, sure! Awesome! If not... well, the Barboach sure had an interesting story to tell the other Pokemon when it got back to the water, yeah? The day a floating piece of edible flotsam turned into a surprising adventure!

The Great Ball hit the Barboach fairly gently, and it vanished into the ball ... which barely shook at all before the light flashed. Barboach had decided to just roll with this! Not being in the water hadn't been so bad, and being in the ball wasn't so bad, and who knew what would happen next? Maybe there'd be more snacks! Hey, it wasn't like Barboach had a lot of other things on its agenda. It had seen a lot of mud, and a lot of river bottom; it wouldn't mind checking out a bit more of the world. The ball rested on the riverbank, waiting for Arris to pick it up.

Huh! Well. That worked out. Arris shifted forward, gently picking the ball up and showing it to Pepper with a smile. "I'd say that worked out for us, eh bud? That's a new interestin' bud right there." The Pikachu twitched his ears with a look, before seeming to write it all off. Instead, Pepper picked up his little toy rod again, looking to Arris expectantly.
The boy laughed. "Oh, you got a taste and now you love the life, is that it? Fine, fine. We'll fish for a lil' while longer. Alright now." Arris took a moment to re-bait the rod. It had been an old recipe his grandfather had passed down when he'd been teaching his grandson the joy of the outdoors - camping, wilderness survival, and the such. It was a fond memory.
Placing a much smaller piece of bait on Pepper's prop, he cast his own line back into the river, sitting back and relaxing with a content sigh.

Arris' bobber floated in the river for a while this time before he got a bite. (Pepper, alas, did not get a single bite at all, possibly because his tiny rod didn't actually reach the surface of the water.) This time it was an orange and white fish with elegant fins that flowed with the water ... and a sharp little horn! Arris had reeled in a Goldeen. In the shallows, its head poking up out of the water, the Goldeen surveyed Arris and Pepper with cool green eyes, apparently unfazed by this turn of events. Then it started to turn away.

"Woah, look at that one! It's so frilly and pretty..." Arris patted Pepper on the side, gesturing to the Pokemon. Disgruntled from his 'fishing', the Pikachu looked up before making a gasp of surprise, setting his little toy rod aside. "Think we got this one, b- oh woah there, I don't think so!"
Arris pulled back on the rod as the Goldeen started to turn away, ready to reel in if he had to. "Alright, battle it is. Be careful not to get yourself shocked too, but - let's go Pepper, use Thundershock!" Before Pepper did anything, he set his shades aside on the ground next to Arris where it was guaranteed they'd stay safe. And then, he got into ready position before leaping forward, sending out a quick jolt of electricity towards the Goldeen!

First Arris' pull on the rod tugged Goldeen back, then Pepper's Thunder Shock hit it hard. OK, apparently it was not going to get to simply swim away. Well, if these strangers intended to force Goldeen to fight, then it would teach them to regret it. With a cry of "Deen!" it leapt out of the water and gave Pepper a good Peck with its sharp horn. Sharpest horn in the west, this Goldeen (wherever "the west" was). It might not be able to take Pepper out, but it would certainly make an impact -- put a dent in the Pikachu's pride, Goldeen hoped, and maybe also his fur.
OOC: Pepper's Thunder Shock hits for 6 damage, leaving the Goldeen with 7 HP! Goldeen uses Peck and hits for 3 damage, bringing Pepper's HP to 8. Owwwwww! That absolutely stung! Pepper rubbed at his stomach with a grumpy expression. The blow had knocked him back onto the bank instead of into the water at least, so that was... he supposed a good outcome? "Piiiiiika!" Yeah. He didn't want to get super wet. The Pikachu cracked his knuckles. Alright, it was time to get serious! Let's d--
"Alright, Pepper! Let's get in there with a Nuzzle! See if you can slow it down a bit!" Arris cheered the Pikachu on, though he was steadfast with the rod as well. This felt... exciting but dangerous? Like he was a little too close to the action. But he felt alive and excited like Pepper had shocked him with a livewire. Being a Pokemon trainer was so great.
Pepper looked deadpan at Arris for a second. "Chu." He just said he didn't want to get wet. Why was Arris telling him to -- okay, fine! Steeling himself for the dampness of the river, Pepper gave the Goldeen a snarky little wink, before diving into the shallows to rub his static-charged cheek against the fish. So mean with the horn, but here Pepper was, being so so sweet! (Hah! Get zapped, jerk.)

While Nuzzle didn't hurt as much as Thunder Shock had, the Goldeen found itself struggling to move as electricity flickered through its muscles. It was paralyzed! You know what? This Pikachu sucked, this human sucked, this entire encounter sucked. Goldeen just wanted to leave. With that in mind, it turned its back on Pepper and shook its tail at him. Surely he would let down his guard in his hurry to stop Goldeen from fleeing -- or because he assumed that it wasn't going to attack again -- incorrect! It would very much like to simply depart, but it really doubted the human or Pikachu would allow it to leave peacefully. What had it done to deserve this?
OOC: Pepper's Nuzzle hits for 3 damage, reducing the Goldeen's HP to 4! The wild Goldeen is also paralyzed. The wild Goldeen uses Tail Whip and crits successfully reduces Pepper's Defense by one stage, or 2, to 11. Goldeen: 4/13 Status: paralyzed Stat changes: none Held item: none You have 4/5 Great Balls. Pepper spluttered as the Goldeen began to shake its tail at him, being splashed with water from the movement. He was already damp now from jumping in the water and now he was being splashed too? Nope, alright, that's it. Pepper was done with this fight. He tromped out of the water onto the bank, before shaking himself off vigorously, trying to get all the droplets out of his fur. Most of them ended up on Arris, who simply cried out, "Hey! Pepper, c'mon!" as he shifted to the side away from the Pikachu.
Rather than giving any sort of apology, though, the Electric Mouse simply dug into Arris' bag and held up a Great Ball to the trainer with a pointed expression. 'Catch it now, or fight it yourself,' he seemed to say. Battles weren't fun when you were waterlogged! Arris made sure he had a firm grip on his fishing rod before nodding with an amused sigh. "Alright bud, that's fair enough. I can't fault you on that one."
He took the ball after freeing a hand up, looking at the struggling Goldeen. "Should be relatively fine... that one's a real beauty y'know? I think we've got a shot here. Alright... let's do this! Hang in there, fella! You'll get healed up soon enough after this!" He tossed the ball towards the Goldeen, before placing his hand back on the fishing pole.

As the Goldeen tried to leave, the Great Ball hit it and it vanished inside. The ball shook a bit as the Goldeen explored what it was like to be inside a Pokeball ... then fell still, its light flashing. You know what? Fine. Goldeen had wanted to leave the battle. If it had intended to return to the river, rather than head into a Pokeball, that was on it for not specifying where it wanted to go. The Great Ball was comfortable enough, and certainly an improvement on going out and fighting that Pikachu. It would just stay here for now. Goldeen's good in here. The ball had landed in the shallows, just barely submerged in the quick-running water. While it was in no danger of washing away, it probably would be a good idea for Arris to go grab it quickly.

"Shoot, that was really a heck of a workout. My arms are tired! But booyah!" Arris picked up the Pokeball, drying it off on his pant-leg before pocketing it. He then reeled in his rod the rest of the way, setting it down as well to look over Pepper's dampness. "You okay there, buddy? You took a bit of a hit there, huh?"
Pepper offered him an annoyed expression in return. Arris couldn't help the laugh. "Sorry! I guess I didn't expect you'd end up... y'know. You got me back though! I'm all wet too." The Pikachu did at least look mildly mollified by that admission. If he had to be wet, it was only fair Arris was too! But... he was still wet. And he hurt a little bit from the Goldeen's horn. Arris watched him quietly for a moment before offering Pepper's Pokeball. "You wanna take a rest, bud? We're gonna go to the Center after we're done here for today, so if you wanna take a nap, it's okay."
The Pikachu thought about it for a bit before finally nodding, returning himself to his own ball. It wasn't wet in there, and he didn't feel damp in the energy either! He could just relax and meowth-nap until he was on top of his game again. Fishing was fun, but it was also exhausting for the young electric-type! In turn, Arris let Belle out of her ball after administering a Potion to Pepper's ball. Immediately the Bounsweet was headbutting him with a happy squeal, and he picked her up to kiss her on the head before setting the berry next to him. "Heya sweetie. We're fishing! It's gonna be bringing Pokemon up from the water, see? It's nice to see you're up and awake there now. Wanna hang out?" Belle nodded and made herself at home sunning as Arris re-baited the rod up for the last time, before giving it a mighty cast back into the river!
OOC: Arris is gonna continue to fish! He will also use his out of battle heal, and swap to Belle as the lead Pokemon.

The next Pokemon to tug at Arris' line was a sweet-looking little Tympole who bounced on the bank once Arris pulled it out of the water. The Tympole regarded Arris and Belle for a moment, its expression falling from neutral to a deep frown -- it looked almost teary-eyed -- and then let out an ear-splitting screech that left Belle dazed and stunned. What had it ever done to deserve this? It wasn't having a good day to start with and then it had to be dragged out of the water like this? How could anyone be so mean? Everybody was always mean to Tympole! It just couldn't stand it anymore!
