time: day (afternoon) weather: N/A, rainy outside characters: Mya "Rainbow" Saller , Sebastian Aldenberg , wild Pokemon battle mechanics: fully rolled It was a good day to explore the Dragon's Maw: the steady rain outside made the cave seem more appealing by contrast. Water dripped around the Famine-side opening of the cave system, running down the fang-like stalactites that lined it. The sunlight reached only 30 feet or so beyond, into a gently downward-sloping, dirt-floored tunnel somewhat damp from the rain outside. Beyond that, impenetrable darkness. To encounter any Pokemon, Mya and Sebastian would probably have to go pretty far in -- or just take the first departure they could from the marked route between Famine and Drackinhelm.

She waited in the mouth of the cave with Eon, checking the batteries she had packed again and again. One thing Mya learned during her camping trips was to never assume enough was enough. You over prepared. She had the primary set, then a back up set, a back up for the back up, and then a back up for the back up for the back up. Plenty of food, plenty of water, all in her camping bag. Dragon's Maw wasn't too horribly dangerous but it never hurt to be safe.
Mya checked her phone over and over again for new messages, growing slightly aggravated and concerned about where Sebastian was. She was going into the cave anyway, but she hoped the nerd was alright. Eon was waiting patiently as well, sitting on the dirt and pushing rocks around with his little paws. This was going to be fine. Besides, Mya wanted to try this whole fishing thing again and maybe go deeper into the caves. Who knew, might find something interesting.

"She's lucky that I was in the area..." Sebastian mumbled to himself as he rushed to join Mya at the entrance to the maw. He was determined to keep Will in his ball for now, the Dragon's Maw was dangerous after all, but Everest refused to stay in her's. Therefore she was seated on his shoulder as usual. It was her that gave the call to Mya when she spotted the woman.
"Snea! Sneasel Sneasel Snease!" Quick as could be she jumped off Sebby's shoulder and darted up to Eon to give him a boop on the snoot before she turned to climb up Mya in greeting. Sebastian smiled a bit and walked up.
"Hey Mya. Hi Eon." He ducked under the cave entrance and took off his glasses for a moment to clean them off from being rain covered. "so... why are we going into this place...? Don't tell me we're fully going into Drackinhelm...?" He asked hesitantly.

Eon gave a happy cry when Everest bopped his snoot. The bagon was now smiling happily, ready to get exploring with his friend! Mya, on the other hand, was prepared for the sharp claws as Evert climbed up her. Mya smiled and scratched the sneasel on the head. "Hello to you, too! Been a while." Mya put her hands back in her pockets and watched Sebastian approach. "Hey, Sebby."
Mya looked into the cave entrance, down into the growing darkness. "Well, I'm here for a few reasons. First, I want to try this fishing thing someone told me to do to relax. Also, I heard rumors of some dragon types. I want to see if we can find Eon a dragon friend. And no, we won't be going into Drackinhelm. Just deep enough to find water and some wild Pokemon." Mya shrugged. "I know it's dangerous to go alone, though. And you are one of the only people I trust to go with me." It was the truth. Of the other trainers Mya had met, Sebastian was one of the few she would entrust with her and Eon's safety.
"But if we don't see any dragons, you can try to catch and battle whatever you like." She shrugged. She was only really here to give fishing another try in a place where--maybe--the fish won't try to electrocute her.

Sebby smiled when he heard that they weren't gonna be going all the way through. Just deep enough for... fishing? Ya know what he wasn't gonna question it. "Sounds good, I suppose. Everest c'mere girl." The sneasel nuzzled into Mya's hand before jumping over to Seb's arms.
"And then you can me Will too!" He said much brighter. And it'd give him a chance to learn about more pokemon hands on. he smiled more and nodded to Mya. "I guess whenever you're ready we can head down? You have supplies and such right?" The idea that she might not have supplies worried him, but she wasn't dumb... she'd have things, right? Right. Definitely. He shouldn't doubt her. |

Mya nodded. "I have a flashlight, back up batteries and a back up for my back up. Plenty of food and water if we get stuck and some rope if we need to climb up someplace. And thankfully I got my hands on some more pokemon, so we should be fine if we run into really bad trouble. One of them almost took Eon out." Mya shrugged and took out her flashlight, turning it on. "Let's go, Sebby."
She turned and began to go down into the darker depths of the maw. She was specifically looking for pools of water that could potentially have pokemon in them, or some sort of underground river. Just a place where she could fish, really. She just.... wanted to fish down here.
Eon trotted beside her, keeping an eye out for any sort of danger, sometimes giving small cries up to her when he though she wasn't watching her footing properly. He couldn't wait till he was bigger and stronger and didn't have such short, stubby arms. That would make life a million times easier. Especially since Mya seemed to look for trouble.

Sebastian let out a sigh of relief. "Good. I shouldn't have worried, with it being you. But it doesn't hurt to be nervous." He said as he jogged to catch up with her and stay with her. His sneasel snuggled into his arms idly as they walked down into the dark tunnel. She seemed perfectly fine, no, happy, with this turn of events. And honestly if Seb was less nervous, he would be as well. It was... admittedly kinda nice to be around someone else again. Especially one Everest approved of.
"So... what've you been up to recently? And what pokemon have you caught? Anything interesting?" he asked almost casually. He at least seemed a lot more open this time. Then again.. he was getting used to her existence. |

"Kuh-koff. Kuh-koff." As Mya and Sebastian walked down the tunnel, a coughing noise echoed towards them, its source unclear -- until they emerged into a larger space, a foul-smelling room with a hole slashed through the center of the floor. Mya's flashlight showed clusters of Koffing congregated near the ceiling; most of them began to drift away with varying levels of alarm as the light passed over them, but one particular Koffing instead floated towards Mya and Sebastian, exhaling puffs of smog. "Kuh-koff. Kuh-koff."The curious -- or aggressive -- Koffing hovered over their heads, looking at them with big round eyes and misting them with sulfur-smelling gas.
OOC: A wild Koffing appeared!
Since this a dual encounter, please decide as quickly as possible how to handle the Koffing's appearance -- whether to attack or attempt a non-battle capture and/or who should do so.

Mya was slightly startled at the strange balloon-like pokemon that were beginning to move, but that startled reaction soon vanished to one of confusion when the koffing released some strong smelling gas. She quickly pointed her phone at it to get a quick dex entry before grabbing Sebastian by the coat and leading him away. Eon gave a small gag and covered his nose as he followed quickly.
"Not good to smell sulfur when in a cave system, might make you dizzy," she said, moving as carefully as possible to make sure they kept away from the hole in the floor and kept moving downwards. "There as to be some sort of body of water down here somewhere, right?" There had to be, if pokemon lived down here. Everything needed water.
Giving a sigh as they made their escape, Mya shrugged. "I caught a, uh... Tynamo and then a Chikorita when I went to the swamp," she said. "The Tynamo hates me, though. What about you? Anything good?"

Seb took a few heavy breaths. "Koffing... I've never seen one before... Arceus that smell was worse than I expected..." He mumbled to himself before he perked up.
"Tynamo... The EleFish pokemon... and a Chikorita? The leaf pokemon? Those are both pretty rare. But the swamp makes sense for them at least." He'd never seen either of them, although it might not be the best idea for him to play with the Tynamo. He was wearing Mareep wool after all.
"The only other pokemon I've caught is Will. He's a Wurmple. Not the most powerful right now, but we'll figure it out. He's a fiesty little guy, but I don't know which evolutionary form he'll end up with. It's kinda exciting, becuase with Wurmple you never know what you'll get. Some evolve into a Cascoon, which evolve into a Dustox. And some evolve into a Silcoon, which evolve into a Beautifly. Funnily enough Beautifly are the more aggressive of the two and are more powerful in an offensive position. Dustox can be kinda timid and easily spooked, so they know a lot more moves centered around defense. I don't mind which he evolves into personally, but I think he might end up as a Beautifly just cause he's a little spitfire. But pokemon can have major personality changes as they evolve, so I won't be surprised either way." He didn't even seem to catch that he was rambling, just happily going on about the adorable worm pokemon as he walked. Everest was grumping in his arms, seeming upset that they didn't fight off the Koffing and assert their dominance.
As they were walking away from the semi-hostile environment, he relaxed more. Idly pet Everest, who relaxed as he relaxed. Danger over, trainer happy, she was happy. Soon they came across one of the underground rivers, although to be fair Sebastian had been moving towards the sound anyways. She'd said she wanted to fish. And it'd be kinda relaxing. He could even do some research on the nearby pokemon! Ooooo and he had someone there with him to make sure he didn't get into too much trouble ok he felt good. |

She listened as Sebastian rambled. It wasn't the first time. He was such a nerd, but that was endearing. Besides, it was nice to have someone that knew something about pokemon along for the trip. Sebastian was the brains and Mya was the brawn. If they got into trouble, she was certain she could lift Sebastian like a sack of potatoes and book it back out of here.
"You are such a nerd," she said with a smile and a playful tone. "But that's a good thing. You got a lot of info in that head of yours." When she saw the water, whatever else she was going to saw was last. She moved quickly towards it and got out her fishing rod. She quickly cast her line and sat down. Finally... she'd give this a try and if it was a bust then she'd move on and let Sebastian explore.

Mya's fishing line twitched uncertainly, then received a proper tug, and another -- reeling it in, she found a whiskered fish with a long grey body on the other end, looking at her in curiosity. It seemed a bit confused to find itself suddenly in air instead of water, but it settled into the mud at the stream's edge easily, tail flopping a little as it made a comfortable spot for itself. Looking at Mya, it seemed to ask what she intended to do next: "Boaaa?"
If she didn't do anything, the Barboach could always vanish into the mud -- that was, after all, its natural habitat.

She was a little startled, same as Eon, when the pokemon just flopped down on the mud, looking at them. It was.... cute? In a weird way. Slimy. "Oh uh, sorry," she said to the fish. She looked over to Sebastian. "Hey, do you want to try and capture this thing? Seems peaceful enough."
She didn't really know what she was looking for while fishing. Maybe to just see what pokemon lived in the water. At least this one didn't try to kill her the moment they met. Eon gave a polite wave at the barboach and a small greeting.
There was no need to violence during this encounter. The barboach didn't do anything wrong.

Sebastian had been nearby quietly, humming to himself and petting Everest. Both of whom looked over as she caught something. "Hey! nice catch, you didn't even have to wait too long." He congradulated her before smiling at the pokemon.
"Barboach, the whisker pokemon. They can be pretty territorial but this one seems pretty mellow. Hey little... guy? girl? I can't tell. They have no gender dimorphism, which I kinda expected them to have when I was learning about them, but I don't really mind I don't think. Not that they have a choice, and what would it even be, size of their whiskers? But that'd be dumb, because they use those to hunt, they're predators, and supposedly the whiskers are also for taste too. And when they evolve they're pretty sturdy, Whiscash are actually pretty good in battle despite their pre-evolution being considered a weaker pokemon." He rambled as he watched it. and of course while he was distracted... Everest had begun to leer at the small fish. She was itching to battle. Plus, her trainer was too busy with his factoids and thinking to order her around. So it seemed she took it into her own hands. Claws. Whatever. |

The Barboach shivered in the mud as Everest gave it an intimidating look. It hadn't come here for a fight, but if the Sneasel wanted to start one, well, this little fish would finish it. It spat a steady stream of water at Everest, smacking her right in her Leering face. Take that! Maybe that would teach her not to pick fights with just any Pokemon she wandered across. (It wouldn't.) Wiggling down into the mud, the Barboach awaited Everest's response, hoping that its attack might have scared her away. (It hadn't.)
