[googlefont=Grandstander] time: day weather: clear participants: Mya "Rainbow" Sallerbattle mechanics: none Maze start!Mya! Ye've sailed yer way to the Mistveil Laboratory in search of booty, i.e. candy. Now ye stand just inside the maze, ready to plunder its riches -- if ye can navigate these stormy seas and uncertain shoals. Built in one of the Lab's outdoor arenas, the maze consists of eight-foot plywood walls painted with spooky scenes and Ghost Pokemon. Per the orientation you received from a Lab volunteer (who loved Eon's costume), you know that if you damage the walls -- for example, by trying to break through one to get through the maze quicker -- you'll be instantly disqualified and forfeit your candy. You have to actually find the solution! Currently, you stand in a short corridor that turns right almost immediately ahead of you. From here, you can see that after that right turn, you'll have the choice to go either right or left. Please describe your costume and your Pokemon's costumes, and get started on the maze!

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: Left
Mya popped her neck as she and her team stood outside the maze. Mya was rather handy with a sewing machine, having to learn how to repair her own clothes for so many years, so she had made herself a long coat that was similar to the old story books with pirates. Along with that were some old leather boots she had found at a garage sale and a billowing blouse that looked close enough to pirates. There was no hat, but she did sport an eye patch.Eon was beside her, his hard and round shell painted orange, the ridges resembling a pumpkin rather wonderfully. Mya had taped a little green sprout to the top of the shell, loving just how round Eon had become over time. His costume was the easiest out of everyone's, whereas Vulcan and Járnsaxa had different ideas. Vulcan was dressed as a zombie. Some ketchup was smeared on his little tusks and along his mouth. Mya had carefully painted some "wounds" on him and some "rotting flesh" as well. He sure did have the zombie walk down. Járnsaxa decided to sport something rather cute herself: a combee costume Mya also sewed together. The little larvitar was walking around with the costume, the three parts of the combee in clear view. Her chest made the first part and the second parts came out atop her shoulders, leaving her little paws free. There were even little translucent wings behind her! Mya had thanked the assistant and began to walk down the path, Vulcan keeping up the zombie walk and groan while Eon kept an eye on the newest member of the team. Járnsaxa walked in front of Mya, seemingly very excited! Once they got to their first choice, Mya gave some consideration. "Járnsaxa, what do you think?" she asked. The pokemon gave Mya a look. She sighed. "Arrgh, what do ye think?" Mya corrected herself. Járnsaxa seemed pleased and turned to the left.

You go left at the turn and immediately come to another intersection. This one has four possible paths (counting the way you came), arranged like a plus sign. Straight ahead, you see that the corridor takes a left turn. You can also turn either right or left. To complicate things, you can see that there's another plus-shaped intersection immediately to your right: if you turn right, you will then have the option of turning left or right again, or going straight.
To reiterate, your options are: a) go straight, b) turn left, c) turn right, then go straight, d) turn right, then turn right again, or e) turn right, then turn left.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: Straight
Ah, an interesting layout. Whoever made this maze must have had a great time making it very... maze-like. Mya thought about it, looking down at her pokemon. Vulcan, in his infinite wisdom, marched straight on ahead. Eon soon followed, as did Járnsaxa. Mya shrugged and walked after them.Personally, she would have considered a turn to be the better option but if this is what majority vote said then that was what they did! She gave a look around, wondering if there were any surprises in this maze or not. Probably not, it didn't seem like the lab would try to startle anyone that came in.

Straight turns out to be a dead end; after the left turn and the right turn, you find yourself staring at a wall -- and at a bowl of candy. You've found +1 Quick Candy, plus some more ordinary candy that you and your Pokemon can share. Then you turn around and head back out of the dead end, returning to the intersection you were previously at, just facing the other direction.
So, you have a corridor that ends in a left turn on your right, and straight ahead is the way you came. To your left is a corridor that ends in a left turn, but also has two openings between you and that turn, one on the left and one on the right.
Do you a) take the corridor on the right, b) follow the left corridor to the left turn, c) go left and take the left-hand opening, d) go left and take the right-hand opening, or e) go straight (back the way you came)?
Your winnings so far: 1 Rare Candy (participation prize) 1 Quick Candy

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: D. Left and Right Hand Opening
Ah, hell yeah! Mya pocketed the candy and handed out the normal candy to her pokemon, getting a resounding thank you. She patted Eon's shell and put his share in her pocket for later, given he had no hands.Going back the way they came, Mya thought for a second. "Alright, we'll go this way," she said, turning to the left and going towards the right-hand opening. Her team followed suit, quickly scurrying behind her.

The right-hand opening is a dead end too, but not to worry -- there's a bowl of candy sitting at this dead end as well, and you find +1 Tough Candy among the more mundane offerings.
As you come out of the dead end, you stand in a plus-shaped intersection with a long corridor running left to right. On your left, the corridor ends in a left turn. There are also two openings on the left, but you know you've already been down both paths -- one is the way you came from the entrance, and the other is where you found the Quick Candy. To your right, the corridor ends in a left turn. You could also go straight, where you see a T-shaped intersection.
Do you a) go left and take the left turn at the end of the corridor, b) go right and take the left turn at the end of the corridor, c) go straight and go left, d) go straight and go right, or e) go somewhere you've already been?
Your current winnings: 1 Rare Candy 1 Quick Candy 1 Tough Candy

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: D. Straight and Right
More candy! Mya pocketed the tough candy and hummed in consideration. Might be good in the long run when training up a member of her team, but so far, they all seemed to be doing ok. She turned back and assessed the options, looking her team over with a considering hum before going straight and to the right. What was the old saying? Keep your right hand on the wall and keep making right turns and eventually you'll get out of the maze? Or something? Her team waddled along behind her, two of them with little baby legs and the other carrying 250 pounds of pure shell and muscle. Eon was not very sneaky, but he had a lot of gusto.

Going straight down the hallway, you discover that the right turn is, alas, a dead end. As you come out of the dead end, though, you can see that the opposite path -- the path you would have taken if you'd gone straight and right -- is also a dead end, but from this angle, you spot a bowl of candy sitting in it. You find another +1 Tough Candy!
Now you turn and come back to where you originally went straight. From this direction, you know that going straight will take you to the dead end where you found the first Tough Candy. To your left, the hallway ends in a left turn. The hallway to your right ends in another left turn, but there are two openings before that, one on the left and one on the right. However, you know that the one on the left leads back to the entrance to the maze, and the one on the right leads to the dead end where you found the Quick Candy.
Ultimately, your options are a) go left and take the left turn at the end of the hallway, b) go right and take the right turn at the end of the hallway, or c) go somewhere you've already been.

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: A. Left and Left Turn
Mya gave a whistle at the candy she had been getting. Nice! She handed out more regular candy, pocketing some more for Eon, and then turned around and continued walking. Vulcan walked beside her, making some noises as he gobbled his candy. He handed his empty wrappers to Mya, who shoved them in another pocket.Right.... Mya took the left option, deciding that it was just as good as every other option they had.

Going left and left, you find yourself at another plus-shaped intersection. To your left is a dead end. Ahead of you, a short hallway turns right. To your right, you would enter another intersection where you could go either right or left.
Do you a) straight and turn right, b) go right and go right, c) go right and go left, or d) go back?

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: A. Straight then Turn Right
At the multiple choices, Mya gave a sigh. Man, they sure did go all out for this maze. She wondered how they did it, really. But that wasn't the point at the moment! The point was to try and get out. Giving each option a careful consideration, Mya decided to head straight and to eventually take that right turn she could see. Maybe that was the way?Eon followed, feeling Vulcan start to climb on his shell. Perhaps the little axew's legs were tired from walking? He hadn't been traveling as long as the rest of them had with Mya, and she was known for her rather large steps and fast pace.

Taking the hall ahead of you, you take a right turn, then an immediate left. Then you walk past an alcove on the right and take another left turn to find yourself looking down a hallway that ends in a T-intersection where you could go either left or right. There are also a number of openings to your left and right -- one on your left and three on your right.
Do you a) go to the end of the hall and turn left, b) go to the end of the hall and turn right, c) take the opening on your left, d) take the first opening to your right, e) take the second opening to your right, or f) take the third opening on your right?

The World Tried to Burn All the Mercy out of Me Choice: A. End of Hall then Left
Oh wow, a lot of choices! Mya hummed at the thoughts, glancing to her team before taking off straight down the hallway intent on that left turn. She hadn't really done any mazes before, but she knew that the goal was to get through them. The frustrating part was that you didn't know which way to go... which was the point, she realized. But either way, it was a fun way to bond with her team! She had more pokemon than she could really carry with her at once now, but that was alright, the important thing was they were all together, right?

As you walk down the hall, passing openings, you glance left and right into the opening -- and discover that the second opening on the right is a dead end with a bowl of candy. One particular piece is large and shiny: you've found +1 Rare Candy!
The next opening on the right is also a dead end, and when you get to the hall, as you go to turn left, you realize that both the left and right paths here at the end of the hall are dead ends -- although there is a bowl of candy, including +1 Quick Candy, in the dead end on the left.
After taking the candy, you turn around and look back down the hall you just came down from the opposite end. You know that the first and second openings on your left (previously your right) are dead ends, but there's still a third opening on that side that you could take. Alternately, there's an opening on the right side (previously your left) that you could take. Or you could go to the end of the hall and turn right, going back the way you came.
Do you a) take the third opening on the left, b) take the opening on the right, or c) go back the way you came?
Your winnings so far: 2 Rare Candy 2 Quick Candy 2 Tough Candy
