Personality Carter gives the impression of an enthusiastic, excitable young man, almost a bit too eager for his own good. He can be awkward at times, getting ahead of himself and not looking before he leaps – which is a problem when you’re as clumsy as he is. However, he tries to take things in stride and keep pushing forward, even when facing setbacks. He’s stubborn about his decisions, but very open to new ideas and advice. He can’t help but dig deeper when something catches his interest, until he’s satisfied his curiosity. Underneath all that, however, he does hide a number of insecurities. For as long as he’s been alive it’s been his dream to follow in his great-grandfather’s footsteps to be a pokemon photographer, but he never thought he’d actually get the chance. Now that he does, while he is genuinely excited, he’s also terrified that he won’t be able to cut it. His decidedly unsupportive family hasn’t made things any easier. He does a good job of covering these feelings, but when he finally does let his feelings of inadequacy and imposter syndrome come out, he tends to become very melancholy.
History Carter grew up in Hickory Town, the great grandson of a very well-known Pokémon photographer. If anything, his great-grandfather gained even more notoriety in the decades after the Rapture, as his photo books were among the few remaining firsthand records of pokemon. Carter spent his childhood at his great-grandfather’s knee, looking through the albums and hearing stories behind each picture. He remembered the man being happy to share, but also very sad whenever he spoke about the love people had for pokemon in those days, and how it had faded away. When the man passed away, photography and the old photos became his way of staying connected to his memory, and while he knew he couldn’t be a pokemon photographer, he could at least pursue a career in photography itself. However, the rest of his family were less enamored. They’d taken the considerable money made off the photo books and made good investments, but that was the extent of most of their interest in pokemon and their family legacy. Carter was pressured heavily to pursue other dreams all through high school, and by the time he graduated he’d all but given up on becoming a photographer, resigning himself to settling for some well-paying career he’d never be happy with. Then the pokemon came back, and suddenly his greatest dream was a possibility. There was now a huge market for candid pictures of pokemon, both in the wild and interacting with humans. He decided to pursue the opportunity over his family’s protests, determined to not only prove himself capable, but to help reignite the love for pokemon his great-grandfather had instilled in him in others.
Appearance Casual and comfortable is the name of the game for Carter. He likes to keep it simple, with jeans, hiking boots, tee shirts, and his favorite gray jacket. He does have a little bit of an unconventional side, evidenced by multiple piercings in his ear and his taste in jewelry. |
