Farrah had always been a bit of a night owl. Their parents had disapproved of it, but with the freedom of college and life came the freedom to be awake when they pleased. And Farrah enjoyed being awake with the stars. But speaking of college - it had sure been a hot minute since they were last at Mistveil University's major library. How long had it been since Farrah was a student? Almost ten years? Yeesh.
The musician was looking for information on Pokemon - history, specifically. Both Galarian and general study on scavenger Pokemon. They knew they could've stayed at the lab - it would've been a lot more helpful, probably, but the sterile, clean, still a little barren environment... it made Farrah's skin crawl with something they refused to acknowledge. Libraries were old and beautiful and full of life and education.
Currently, Farrah was up on a ladder, looking for a specific book. Below her on the ground was Decibel - who, while being quiet, was sniffing around and darting from shelf to shelf. "Let's see.... oh, that might be it - lil' high up, but..--" Farrah stretched themselves out, a bit precariously, to reach a thick book in question just nearly out of reach. Perhaps they should have been more concerned about Decibel's quietness...
In his curiosity, the Pokemon was brought back over towards his trainer. He was at a brisk little pace, sniffing, not paying attention - and thudded right into the ladder Farrah was perched on. It jolted the musician - they inhaled sharply, hand grabbing onto the bookshelf to keep a grip - "No no no no-" before the ladder moved out from under them and they started to fall. It wouldn't cause serious damage - a bruised pride, more than anything, but that instant moment of lurching panic seizing Farrah's lungs was sharp as a razor claw nonetheless.

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds It was nice to manage to get away again, although this time was a bit more... daring. After leaving the lab, Takara had an unfortunate run in with one of their assistants, assigned to them by the horrible board they had to work with. The assistant really dug it into Takara about how they needed to get back to work, back to more press conferences, but aha, no thank you. So that left Takara here, in the library. They meant to come here anyway to check out some books but now they had decided to use it as a hiding spot. They had already watched a few assistants come in and look around before leaving. Safe for now.
With a sigh, Takara stood up from where they had plopped down and patted their pants off, looking down at Shri. She stared up at them as they removed their sunglasses from the top of their head and folded them, hanging them on the front of their tank top. "Well, since we are here, we should probably look for some of those books, right- Shri!" Takara hissed out, darting after the riolu as she ran quickly. Something must have piqued her interest.
It didn't take long to see what. Takara felt like time slowed down for a moment as Shri moved fast but she was too small for what Takara felt she wanted to do. So Takara picked up the pace. "I got you!" They called, reaching out and catching the stranger, feeling their legs try to give out, but they managed to balance themselves with Shri pushing against Takara's knee. Takara took a moment to breathe, making sure their feet were planted firmly on the ground before looking at the stranger and moving to place them on their own feet. "Sorry... are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?"
Shri looked up at the stranger and placed a paw against their leg, feeling the anxiety and panic flowing. "Riolu..... lu?" she asked. She then jumped up to Takara's bag and took out some pecha berries they had. She held out the plastic bag of berries to the stranger, a worried look on her face.

Farrah gasped in shock and a large amount of surprise at being caught - they'd fully expected they were going to make a very abrupt acquaintance with the ground, not... They clung to the stranger for a moment after being let go, just breathing for a moment, eyes wide. A moment after, they let go took a step back, looking up to the other person. "Oh, Arceus, that was - thank you. You really saved my hide from a nasty fall. I think I'm alright." They put a hand over their own chest and let out a quiet 'hoo!' noise of relief.
At feeling a faint pressure on their leg, Farrah looked down - oh, what a sweet looking little Pokemon... Was she the one who got their trainer's attention? Wait. Wait... where was -- As if summoned by thought alone, Decibel bolted out from under the ladder, immediately winding circles around Farrah's other leg with a concerned little growl. Thank Arceus he was okay, Farrah thought. That eased their anxiety a good bit.
The musician's eyebrows then climbed up to their hairline when the other Pokemon returned with the bag of Pecha berries. Oh, this person had money - oh no. Oh, hell. Farrah knew how rich people could be. And she'd just severely inconvenienced one by falling on them. Their anxiety shot right back up, but they put on their best PR smile (Don't show disrespect, Farrah, they thought), and knelt down to the Pokemon, gently reaching out to pat her on the head. "Hey there, sweetheart - I'm okay, but thank you for offerin'. That's mighty kind of you. I'll be alright, it's okay - thank you." Their free hand reached out to soothe Decibel with a scritch behind the ear, the raccoon Pokemon pressing hard into their hand, before standing again to bow in apology to their savior.
"I am so, so sorry. That was very careless of me - my fall didn't hurt you at all, did it?"

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds Takara frowned. Was this person really alright or did they bump their head or...? Either way, Shri seemed to react to something the stranger felt again and she gave Takara a worried look and an even more worried sound. Takara's frown deepened. The stranger looked alright and their pokemon was also alright... what a cute little pokemon as well! Takara gave the strange pokemon a kind smile before looking back to the stranger.
"I'm fine but... are you sure you are alright? That could have been a really bad fall." Takara looked them over quickly for any signs of damage. "Do you need to sit down, some water maybe?" It wasn't everyday someone would take a tumble like that. Takara themselves had fallen down many flights of stairs for not paying attention very well. Perhaps that was why Shri was so in-tuned to emotions. Shri herself had caught Takara a few times right before an accident happened. Or, caught is a heavy word to use. More like... try to cushion the fall of.
Shri gave a light punch to Takara's leg. They looked down at her for a moment before making an 'oh' with their mouth. "I'm Takara, Takara Wilton, but Takara is fine!" They offered their hand and a kind smile and looked down at Shri. "And this is my riolu Shri. She's the one that sensed something was off, weren't you?" Shri gave a proud nod and put a paw to her chest. "Riolu!"

Farrah's eyebrows quirked very subtly in an expression of interest, face otherwise in that neutral smile. Surprise popped like quiet bubbles in their chest. They... weren't irritated? Well, this was unusual. But, the musician supposed, they could just be someone rather hard-working, or maybe... it could be a case of someone like Farrah themself. Now wouldn't that be interesting? Oh. They hadn't responded. Oops.
"Farrah. A pleasure, Takara," they took the other trainer's hand with a firm shake and smiled back, the expression a bit more genuine. "I think I'm okay. Didn't hit anything on the way down - other than you, of course. Sittin' down might not be a bad idea though - let the body keep up and go 'ah, yes, we're a bit overreacting aren't we?'" Their eyes crinkled in amusement looking down to Shri. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Shri. I owe you both a great thanks - and this here..." They looked down to Decibel, who had retreated to pick up the book that had fallen off the shelf with his trainer, holding it in his mouth, tail twitching gently. "Oh, good boy. This is Decibel, a Galarian Zigzagoon and local wily boy. You didn't mean harm, did ya kid? That's my fella." His tail thumped more visibly.
"But ah... yes. Sitting down might be a good one." They reached down to gently retrieve the book from Decibel, patting the Pokemon gently before shifting to the closest table within distance of Takara, setting it on the table. The short distraction, pulling out a couple of chairs and offering one in politeness, allowed Farrah to get their thoughts together, and allow their emotions to settle into better control. Expression amused, they tilted their head at Takara. "So, other than rescuing damsels from treacherous falls," there was nothing but sincerity in their voice, lacking a joke despite the dramatic description, "What brings you to the library this evening, Takara?"

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds Takara's smile got brighter at the handshake. "A pleasure, Farrah!" Shri also nodded at Farrah's hello, giving her own little polite smile. Once Decibel was introduced, Takara's eyes sparkled. "Hello there! He seems very polite!" Pokemon were amazing, weren't they? And such an interesting coat! "Maybe you two could be friends," they said at Shri. The riolu looked up at Takara then at Decibel, offering a polite nod and a small "Lu".
Once Farrah moved to the table and offered a chair, Takara took the chance to sit down They hadn't realized it, but chasing someone about to fall to the ground really took some wind out of them. They only noticed the moment they sat. Takara was in pretty good shape but still, he should probably visit the gym more often.
The question caught him a little off guard. "Oh!" They looked towards the entrance, not seeing any of their lovely assistants. Thank arceus. "I'm researching pokemon history and how humans and pokemon got along 80 years ago." The purpose was to help reform the pokemon league for the region, but Takara didn't have to say that part they didn't think. "I also thought some quality time in a library would be good for Shri. Let her see different places and the like. We, sadly, haven't had much time to travel around recently, but when I see a chance I take it."
They helped Shri up into her own chair to sit, although she could hardly see over the table. This did not seem to bother her. "What about you? Any special research you're doing?"

At being acknowledged by Shri, Decibel stiffened. He didn't outright become hostile, or act aggressive, but a stiff, narrow eyed stance as he stood stock still for a long few moments. Something seemed to pass through his mind though, because he eventually huffed and nodded as he relaxed his stance. "Zig."
Farrah dropped gracefully into the chair across from Takara once they sat, and leaned back. Decibel approached, crouched down, tail wiggling, and leapt into his trainer's lap. Once he was situated, the musician sat more properly. Their attention had been on Takara the whole time. "Hasn't been a lot of traveling for me, either," they acknowledged. "That's good though - gettin' out, n' also for your Pokemon." They hummed slightly in amusement, however, at the mention of what Takara was researching - and as they looked at the entrance, Farrah glanced too. Was there fans? Interview- oh, nothing. Just exhausted college students. Thank Arceus.
Their eyes crinkled slightly at Shri sitting in her chair, and gave a fond scratch to Decibel's ear. The Zigzagoon had his chin on the table, staring at Takara and Shri with a baleful look. "Fascinatingly enough, mostly the same as you." They turned the book they'd set on the table and pushed it towards Takara. It was a rather old book - probably outdated, but alas. It was labeled as an 'Encyclopedia of Nocturnal Pokemon'. "I was looking for Pokemon history as well - less our relationship with them, however, and more of the environments they existed in, how they survived, their diets, and such. Haven't found anything on other regions yet, but..." They shrugged - when was the last time Deprin had heard from any other region, anyway? "Was hopin' to find some information that might help me raise this fella properly, based on how they were a century ago."

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds They gave a small chuckle. "What a coincidence!" Takara took the book and flipped through it, taking note of old photos of pokemon and paragraphs of how they survived in the wild and how they got along. It looked like a pretty good reference. Some owl pokemon in here... huh, a grass/ghost type? How interesting. "Your research endeavor is a noble one, I feel like everyone is in a bit of a state of confusion when it comes to pokemon, but at least you are doing research into how to raise Decibel correctly." Takara had the benefit of having a whole team of scientists at their disposal to help them figure out what Shri needed, although the riolu knew better than anyone it seemed.
She was incredibly clever. Takara was interested in what her history was 80 years ago, but alas, those files had yet to be found. She definitely used to belong to someone polite and wise, as her personality reflected that perfectly. Although, whoever had her last either didn't bond with her to the point of evolution or they never reached that chance.
"I've been trying to find books on how infrastructure was different back when pokemon were around, how things were built. You can see it in older cities. But 80 years can change a lot." They sigh and close the book, pushing it back to Farrah. "Newest updates in some cities and even smaller towns may make it difficult for pokemon to feel comfortable, even those that primarily lived in cities 80 years ago. I hope to compile some evidence to make statements to some city boards to plead for better changes to city layouts for the benefit of humans and pokemon."
It was funny, pokemon vanished and it seemed some people just gave up and decided to get rid of what was good for everyone, people and pokemon, just because one of the formula was missing. It didn't take a genius to know that placing infrastructure around nature, how little of it there is, can be beneficial for everyone involved.

"I appreciate that." Farrah nodded at the praise for their research. "Figured since he's been my family for some time now, even in a ball, doin' the absolute best by him's the least I can do." It was just Farrah on their own - and they sure knew they couldn't rely on anyone else to help them out. Especially with the world flipped upside-down the way it was. And honestly... Farrah was okay with that - their entire adult life had been them against the world. Now with Decibel, it was two against everyone else. That was an improvement.
Decibel grumbled in the musician's lap as they listened to what Takara had to say. Their plans were... incredibly ambitious. A lot of the world wasn't open to such change - either due to a near-century of misplaced pride led by rich fools, or by a people who simply couldn't afford to. But to express doubt would be rude - and it wasn't a bad idea. Deprin was a shell of what it could be. The return of Pokemon was a catalyst of change and hope. "There's probably only a couple towns at best that are Pokemon friendly right now," they agreed. "Mostly historical sites, yeah. That's a large task ahead of you. But... I really respect that. Our world needs a big change. Especially one that could help the folks at the bottom of the chain who've been strugglin' most."
As they talked, Farrah had opened the book up again, and had scanned the table of contents quickly to flip to vaguely the right area. Once they'd done that, their attention was back on Takara. "Change for the better is a cause I'm more than willing to support. And speakin' of, another reason I was researching. Critters like Decibel are gonna be fine, 'cause they're scavengers that'll eat anything. But Deprin doesn't exactly grow much, 'specially not berries these days. Or produce in general. I've mentioned it to others more knowledgeable, but I wonder what'll happen for Pokemon with more strict diets. Fits a similar bill to some things that need to change, I s'pose." Plus - Farrah knew they'd catch more Pokemon at some point, especially for Decibel's benefit so he wasn't stuck only with his trainer. What if they caught one of those more selective Pokemon? What then?

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds Takara nodded. "I feel for the cities that suffered the most when pokemon left, for those that were forced out of their homes or cities taken advantage of by the elite." Well, Takara was a member of the elite now but they didn't quite see it that way themselves. There was someone that just so happened to be elite then someone that was Elite, or in other words, an asshole. "I don't think getting change will be easy and it sure won't be expensive, but maybe with some luck..." and some clever PR tricks, of course. Maybe Takara could convince the board to find cities willing to change for the better, to provide the funds and tools for them. It would be a hard sell to make, though.
"Ah, yeah, I see your point." Takara rubbed their chin and sighed. "Berry trees are so rare now and expensive to boot. It's hard for most people to afford them. Maybe there can be something done about that, too? Like, cities that fund public berry parks so people can pick as they please and pokemon can eat their fill..." That too would be expensive, though. But Salve Co. did have their own berry farms. It wasn't impossible to help, was it? "I trust pokemon to know what they need and how to find it, but trainers caring for pokemon with certain needs is something to really consider. I wonder if the lab is working on a database to help trainers out."
Takara looked to Shri. She looked back. "To be honest, I don't quite know what Shri needs to be perfectly happy, I trust her to let me know." They chuckled. "Just the other day, I was working out and Shri kept trying to lift one of my dumbbells, so I get her some of her own that suit her more. Pokemon sure are clever. Smarter than us, I'd say." They reached out and scratched behind Shri's ears, earning a happy noise in return.

Tilting their head, Farrah hmm'd in thought. Luck was certainly a word for what would be needed for a venture of that magnitude. But it would be a severe change of luck for the better of their region all the same... "It sickens me," they acknowledged a particular sentence aloud, "How those in power in some cities have driven others' health and sanctity into the ground, yes." Even more so due to Farrah's upbringing. Such a privileged, cushy life. Oh how boldly the veil had been ripped from their eyes when they stepped foot into the real world. And to think there were so many posh rich folk out there who were either willingly ignorant, or genuinely oblivious to the last century's struggle. Farrah wasn't sure which one was worse. They were never sure how they felt about having been one of those uppity, oblivious idiots.
They shook themselves out of the thought. "I think berries might genuinely be the first step forward for the region as a whole." Their lip quirked in a ghost of a smile. "I love the idea of public berry parks. People aren't generally so selfish in the world to hoard, I think. People and Pokemon havin' a simple snack, or a treat at a whim? That's fantastic." And a very high order, of course. The thought occurred to them to maybe search for a book on agriculture and berries. Horticulture? Botany? That was a lot of choices, hmm... "I imagine it is - if a growing Pokedex is available for trainers on our phones, and a bulletin of trainer related news n' jobs... why not other databases of similar, publicly available information? We should look into that."
...Oh, that was a bit presumptuous, wasn't it? We. It's not as if they were a team - well, too late to take back what was already out of their mouth. The musician instead busied herself with the book if only to avoid looking directly at Takara in embarrassment at their brainless word-vomit, and they tried to push down the spot of color high on their cheeks. Decibel licked their arm, and they made a noise of acknowledgement - at least his tongue wasn't... slimy. They appreciated the gesture. "I'd like to imagine with the world resettin' itself, we might see wild berries pop up too, since it figures they were naturally pollinated by the critters that need em' most. That's why I see it as a first step - wild berries can propagate, and spread, and encourage gardens n' farms to pick em' up again."
They glanced up at the other trainer and their Pokemon at the mention of the dumbbells. Working out, huh? Made sense that they were able to catch Farrah then, instead of Farrah crushing the poor sod. And that was incredibly interesting to hear a Pokemon decide to exercise like humans did. "Yeah, same with me and Dec," they acknowledged, smiling just barely at Shri's happy noise. "It's too new for me to know, but I'm sure he'll tell me. I reckon you're right that they're more clever though - n' stronger in every way." Decibel put his paws on the table and raised up to headbutt Farrah in the chin. They huffed quietly and tilted down to gently butt the raccoon back - he seemed quite pleased about it. "I think I'll be fitter than ever with him though - this lil' man sure loves to run. Lot of energy to keep up, heh."

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds They listened intently, even taking out their personal phone to take notes on what Farrah was saying. They had pretty good points! Although, despite the good points, Takara still felt sorry for many of the cities and the people subjected to irresponsible people in power. "I hope that, with pokemon being back, things will change for the better for everyone. I don't like to see anyone being stepped on by the man, ya know?" Takara donated what they could at every opportunity. They made enough to live in a nice house and pay their bills, but everything else? Donated at every moment. Maybe it was time Takara donated some of that to competent politicians.... maybe? But the people of cities should make their own decisions, right?
"But! You have some great ideas! Maybe there can be research done on the biggest pollinators among pokemon and see if farmers would be interested in having some of those pokemon on their teams! And maybe we can talk to Professor Yew about setting up a database for people to share their experiences with their pokemon! That way, anyone can look it up and we can compile information and run it through some people at the lab to make sure it's accurate and add it to the pokedex information, you know? Like a region wide crowdsourcing!" It was a.... big idea. Probably too big for Salve Co. themselves but Takara could try their best!
Takara did laugh at the mention of Decibel running. "Yeah, he seems like such a playful fella! I'm sure that's great though, a pokemon you can take on runs and stuff! Shri here can outrun me in a heartbeat, but it's nice to not job alone anymore." They finished taking some notes. They can compile that into a presentation for the board later with a 'you don't have a choice' pinned to the end. "Oh hey, if you have any other ideas, feel free to message me!" Takara took a crumbled receipt for two cups of coffee out of their pocket and quickly jotted down their number with a loose pen on the table and pushed it towards Farrah. "No pressure though! But I like your perspective. You're really down to earth."

In maybe one of the bigger shows of emotions from Farrah thus far, they nodded, enthused, by Takara's statement. Don't like seeing anyone stepped on by the big man indeed. "Couldn't agree more." Farrah also donated quite a bit - they kept enough to get by, but most proceeds to all of their concerts generally went right back into the public. As a figure of authority to their fans, they felt it was the right thing to do - maybe putting it into rehabilitation with Pokemon would be a good idea... or the database. Making things accessible. They could do that.
"You think so?" The musician sounded a bit surprised at the bright agreement. But listening further, they nodded, taking in what Takara had to say, and thinking of more of it into consideration. "A region wide crowdsourcing..." They weren't sure if a lot of the public could afford it - but you know, that being said... "Could even go into volunteer-work and support or spreading word, aside from monetary concern. As more and more trainers re-appear, it'll grow a new generation of activists and people workin' for a change." Tapping their fingertip on the book in front of them thoughtfully, they tilted their head in thought. "On top of research... live data? Ain't sure if they'd be willing, but talkin' to farmers today and askin' what Pokemon they had on farms a century ago...hm."
Their eyes crinkled at Takara's laugh. "I agree. Havin' someone to actually spend time with's great - especially when they can give me a run for my money. Arceus help me if he learns quick attack. Shri definitely looks like she's built for speed too." They snorted, imagining a black and white streak leaving a comedic dust cloud in its' wake. Farrah would never catch him. "Ah shoot yeah, 'course! I shoulda offered earlier, my bad." They pulled their phone out of their pocket and picked the old receipt up, quickly inputting Takara's number, and then scrolling through their images to send something identifiable. Hm... Oh - perfect. An image was sent over - one Farrah took earlier that day, after Decibel had been allowed to exercise at the laboratory. He was flopped over belly up on the ground, tongue lolling out and looking exhausted - but his tail was a blur of movement. They cocked their eyebrows at Takara, obviously pleased. "Same goes to you, of course. It's nice to see someone who actually has a refreshing perspective on things, y'know? I dig it."

Plant Your Hope With Good Seeds They snapped their fingers with a point and a bright smile. "You are totally right about that. In fact, I'd hope that the system itself could be made into a non-profit. I know of a few types that would try to make some sort of subscription plan to a data bank of pokemon information..." Takara sighed at the thought. The board would not like the idea of spending so much money to help set something up without a potential profit, but not everything had to be about money! Sometimes, it was important to do things because it was the right thing to do. In fact, that's how it should be all the time. Salve Co. may have flourished just caring about money for so many years but Takara would dismantle that viewpoint even if it meant breaking a lot of rules to get there. "But! Pulling some of the right strings should make it free to everyone that needs it... but then you gotta think about the people that can't afford phones... huh." It was a conundrum.
Oh, well! A problem for another day! "Anyway, I'm sorry, I got off to a tangent there. So, Farrah, what do you do? Just a trainer or?" It seemed like a polite question.
Shri fumbled in Takara's bag for a moment before pulling out those berry slices. She opened the bag and passed a few over to Decibel and Farrah with a smile. "Riolu!" She took one out herself and began to nibble on it. Seemed like the humans intended to stay here for a while.

Farrah covered their mouth to hide a genuine smile, and disguised it as a movement one might make while thinking deeply. "The Pokemon Lab might be a brilliant resource for that as well," they put out. "With the lab re-opening and new Centers n' such openin' up again, they certainly would have the information to fill the data bank with. And if I recall..." They brought their phone back to the homepage, looking for the newest app and... aha! "Yeah - this," they turned their phone screen to show Takara. "The Lab had me install a couple things while I was there. There's this here--" Farrah tapped their screen on the app, pulling up the Pokedex app, "which is.... sorta an existing database of Pokemon n' their moves, though not so much practical use or history or anything else we've been talkin' about. And then there's...." They pulled up the Lab's news bulletin. "This - if there's anything big goin' on, or job opportunities specifically for trainers, it'll be here. I think that's how they said it... Could be a good resource or start, maybe? You're right, though. That's a struggle n' a half if ya don't have a phone to begin with."
They shrugged and set their phone down on the table. Honestly, the last couple days were such a blur that Farrah didn't remember much of anything that was said at the lab. Thank Arceus for phone recordings and written notes; they'd be so lost otherwise... They blinked, coming out of their thoughts when Takara asked about their personal life. "Oh! It ain't a problem, it's an important thing, y'know? I uh..." they paused for a moment. It was nice, having the anonymity from their stage persona... was it worth spoiling that by going 'oh yeah no big deal, I'm one of the region's most well known current musicians?' ....No, not really. "I play music," they said conversationally, "But with all these big changes, I suppose now currently a trainer is the most accurate description for what I'm doin' with myself, ahah!" Which wasn't inaccurate. They did play music... and being a trainer was also perfectly true. Just not their main focus, as it were...
"Aw, why thank you Shri." Farrah nodded to the little Riolu as they accepted the slices, making sure to pace Decibel and make sure he wasn't taking their fingers off, before tasting a slice themself. After swallowing, they responded, "How 'bout you? Also just a trainer?"
